Nice local restaurant. The food was delicious and what we expected. We went there for lunch and when we arrived there were not many seats left. We were told we had to leave within 1.5h. First we thought there was a reservation. But then they still randomly let new people in. Not sure if a reservation would be recommended or not. When we wanted to pay the Maschine didn't work and we had to go out and get some cash.

This was my best meal and restaurant that I have been to in both Salzburg and Vienna! Hidden gem- it looked closed from the outside. Once you enter it’s a lively place. Not very big on the inside. Staff are of few words but all very polite which was a breath of fresh air. Food- the flavours were amazing! Big generous portions for a very affordable budget friendly price considering the location! I wish I had more time in Salzburg to go back there!

I was looking for a dinner place in Salzburg while walking the shops with my family, and saw that this place was open and highly rated, so we went for it. As we entered the alley where this restaurant was located, it seemed very quiet. However, I pushed open the doors and was pleasantly surprised by the interior of the place. It was very nicely decorated and really felt very Austrian. The staff that served us was burly but friendly and we were brought to our table. After perusing the menu, we were interested in quite a few items and ordered our drinks and food, and we waited patiently. When the food arrived, Woah! The portions were generous, well presented and fit for a Michelin Star in my opinion when it comes to the flavours and textures! I never had so many various meats, cooked in different styles, that were delicious and really mindblowing! Everyone in my family loved the food and I was thinking that I wished I was a Salzburg resident so that I could come here regularly! The meats were all tender and tasty, mouthwatering and very memorable. All the sides were well cooked and paired very well with the meats too! Whether it was the sauerkraut or the classic french fries, we were all impressed! If you are in Salzburg, you should try their food. We had to pay in cash though but it's not an issue. However, they do close early at 8pm. I will definitely recommend my travelling friends to come here for a meal if they ever come to Salzburg. Thanks for the memories!

Just had Dinner. Great food, good Service but waiter seemed annoyed with us...if you're waiting tables in a Tourist/ Locals place please have a positive or tolerant attitude...

An unplanned lunch stop to a very lovely stop. Very cosy and traditional place, the portions very generous and the food was lovely. Can’t recommend the grepfruit radler enough. The service was great, the waiteress friendly. Everyone, as well as the menu, were English friendly.

At Zum Wildeb Mann I had my favourite tasty and juicy Salzburg schnitzel, filled with mushroom sauce. It was delicious! My husband also loved his, filled with ham and cheese. We had a wonderful time in a so cozy and rustic atmosphere, surrounded by a friendly and very attentive staff. Enjoy! 🍻

Google
Came upon this place by chance. Portion was big at affordable price. The bispectacled man(owner I think) seem like a man of few words but was very polite and attentive to his guests. Food was quite salty (as opposed to what some others saying it's bland) but it just me, most German/Austrian food that I tried are like this. Overall, highly recommend this place if you're in the area.

Google
Nice traditional decor indoor. Friendly service with minimal wait time for food. Food portion is large and delicious. Offers many traditional dishes. Slightly higher price for the quality of food, but food were tasty. Seen many locals dining here.

Yelp
, On our Danube river cruise excursion to Salzburg Austria we came across this restaurant, we were looking for traditional Austrian food. They had tables both in doors and out doors we decided to eat outdoors since it was a beautiful day. My husband and I shared the Austrian Goulash and the Wiener Schnitzel on lunch menu. The lunch menu offers the same dishes that are on the dinner menu for a great price! The lunch portions are smaller but was definitely enough for myself and my husband. Both dishes were delicious!

Yelp
Service got better when the owner figured the Americans weren't going to sit there and drink water. Soup and wine was good.

Yelp
I was looking for a great place to get a real Austrian dinner. Specifically goulash, and we found it! The braised beef with dumpling was fantastic. I had a classic beer and grilled bratwurst. The sauerkraut was excellent and the potatoes seer wonderfully spiced. The brats were just what I was hoping for with spicy mustard. The classic beer they recommend was also a great taste to go with my meal. This place is great. Pretty affordable and off the beaten path. Enjoy Austria!

Yelp
Excellent food! We stumbled upon it on our first day here. EVERYTHING was delicious hands down. I had theee most delicious grilled trout- perfectly seasoned and grilled with the yummy parsley potatoes. My daughters devoured the penne pasta -left that plate clean! The salad looked like your ordinary green salad but there was a magical dressing that made it extraordinary! Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Gasthaus Wilder Mann offers a pub-like feel with excellent service, great food, and a truly charismatic host- Herr Mann, who kept us in stitches each time he visited our table, and when he walked us out warmly at the end of our dinner. Lots of standard Austrian options are on the menu, but also a few more unique items for an adventurous eaters, and I had a whole trout that was one of the most satisfying meals of my entire 3-nation holiday.

Yelp
Looking for a lighter lunch so ordered the Turkey and assorted salad. Appears the dressing was a red wine vinaigrette and it was WONDERFUL. Like many restaurants it was a group of assorted salads and really hit the spot. The turkey was prepared with a nice sear yet moist inside - grey place to enjoy a little rest and dine time

Yelp
A copious menu of Austrian fare in a cozy space just off the Getreidegasse, Gasthause Wilder Mann will more than satisfy with its home cooking. I'm not 100% sure how we found this place in Salzburg, having walked up and down the Getreidegasse seeing Mozart plastered everywhere. There are high end retailers and little restaurants like Gasthaus Wilder Mann. A humble and rustic vibe, the menu has everything you could possible want plus a huge beer/wine list. Service was extremely friendly and spoke good English. We ordered the Salzburger Schnitzel "Zum Wilden Mann" mit Petersilkartoffeln (12,50 - breadcrumbed escalope filled with bacon, mushrooms, and onions served with potatoes) and the Rostbratwürstel mit Sauerkraut and Kartoffeln (8,90 - roasted sausages with sauerkraut and potatoes). The Wilden Mann special was something I've never had before - essentially schnitzel - thinly cut pork breaded and fried - but with the added bonus of being stuffed with bacon and mushrooms. It was phenomenal - creamy inside with the crispy lightly breaded and fried outside. The Rostbratwürstel was also really good - the smaller size was perfect, and the sausages were good with even better sauerkraut underneath. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere Gasthaus Wilder Mann. It's close enough to the beaten path that you don't have to venture far, but hidden enough to never be overcrowded with tourists. A solid recommendation.

Yelp
This restaurant is conveniently located on/near the busiest tourist street in Old Town. We ordered the Schnitzel and Goulash and my husband also had the Weiss beer. Everything was delicious. The goulash is basically well stewed beef with thick and tasty sauce, not the Hungarian goulash soup. My husband said his veal schnitzel was delicious. I'm not a big fan of fried food, so I can't judge. We tried a dessert called Viennese browned omelet. It's custard egg with powered sugar on top served with plum spread on the side. It was very light with a hint of sweetness, perfect way to end a meal. The menu has German, English, French, and Spanish. Waiter spoke some English, enough to provide everything you need to know (i.e. answer questions about food items, drinks, bill, smoke, non-smoke, etc). Overall great service, ambience, and food. To get an idea of what the restaurant looks like, check out their website at http://www.wildermann.co.at To see their menu, click on "Speisekarten" on top navigation (English menu is available online).

Yelp
Nothing was wrong with the food, it was actually really good. The service however was not. We wanted to enjoy a beer before ordering but less than 3 minutes later a man came over and starting hassling us to order our food quickly, and then was incredibly rude the rest of the time. We visited here based off a Rick Steve's recommendation but probably wouldn't go back. There are several other places around Salzburg with just as good of a menu, less pricey, and nicer staff.

Yelp
Outstanding cuisine!!! I ate there many times while in Austria and NEVER had a bad meal. The service was fantastic and the food was very generous for the price. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
Wonderful food and pretty decor. Staff were not overly friendly. The only accepted cash when we were there, which was not a problem for us but it could be for some people. Prices were reasonable for the quality of the food.

Yelp
In a 9-day, 6-country trip, this hidden jewel turned out to be the best spot to eat on the entire trip! The goulash and the broth with cheese dumplings are simply incredible!

Yelp
This place was amazing! I've been to Salzburg many times but this was my first time trying this restaurant, and it'll be a regular stop from now on. I went with three other people and all of our food was delicious. The owner sat and chatted with us for a while and was very friendly. Great food and wonderful atmosphere. Try the schnitzel!

Yelp
One of the best schnitzels I have tried in my life. Really good. The draft beer they serve is also delicious. A traditional interior design, good atmosphere etc. A certainly 5x place.

Yelp
Good Austrian food and beer house. After 18 hours of travel from Toronto this was a good find. The Austrian cold plates were great.

Yelp
Very good food and service. Highly recommend it. Also the location is very historical.

Yelp
We came here as our last lunch in Salzburg. The location is quiet and lovely. The food was very nice.

Yelp
One of the best meals we had in Austria -- great schnitzel, great goulash, all washed down with excellent beer. A definite place to return to.

Yelp
The food was delicious! I ordered the house special schnitzel. Best schnitzel I've ever had. My fiancé ordered the three meats. Very very good. The owner was very welcoming and friendly. All the waiters speak very clear English. Highly recommended.

Robert B.

Yelp
Food was ok but service was horrible! Unfriendly and very unaccommodating! If we asked to deviate anything(and I mean ANYTHING) that was on the menu, we were told, "Sorry, we can't do that." I simple wanted to substitute one type of potatoes for another for my side, and I was told "no!" When we asked for a typical Austrian dish common the the region, we were staunchly informed that, "if it's not on the menu, then we don't serve it!" My recommendation, there are plenty of other restaurants in the area; spare yourself the rudeness and find someplace better to eat.

Yelp
We went there once two days ago, and there was enough room for our group of 4 adults, two small children and a baby, but we were told that all tables were reserved. One of us went by again today to make a reservation for lunchtime, but they said it was not needed. As we went for lunch with the kids, we were then told that all tables were again reserved. As another group of 5 adults arrived without reservation, they were given a table right under our nose. When we asked how that could be, we were told "this place is not a kindergarten".... we're definitely never going back there again, with or without children!

Yelp
My husband and I went here after our tour guide suggested it. I must say this is the BEST food we had during our entire trip to Austria and Germany. My husband had the goulash and I had the schnitzel. Both of us had a Stiegl, which is mandatory when you visit Austria. We ate our food outside. The waiter was pleasant, no nonsense, but I never expect fake cheerfulness from Germans and Austrians that we Americans are accustomed to. Although this restaurant is off the beaten path (turn down the alley at the umbrella sign off the main street) it is well worth the venture to find it.

Yelp
This restaurant was very good. My daughter loved the schnitzel and they had the best french fries we've tasted in Europe so far! I ate a delicious broth soup with a cheese dumpling inside. Everyone was happy with their salads and wursts. The beer was Steig which is tasty local Austrian beer. Our server was friendly, spoke some English as well.

Lisa E.

Yelp
We really liked the rustic look of this restaurant and the food was delicious - Very big portions and tasty too!
google avatar

Yelp
Good traditional Austrian food in the old historic center. I tried the veal schnitzel and it was excellent along with the locally brewed Stiegl beer. The historic "Alt Stadt" is filled will tourists and places that cater to them, but the Wilder Mann stands out as an authentic restaurant with fantastic food.

Yelp
Was there for dinner. Typical Austrian food. Limited outside seats but easy accessible from downtown and friendly staffs.
google avatar

Yelp
A little hard to find as it is tucked away off the main street. English menus were available which was a bonus. The waiter took a while to come take our order but there were a lot of busy tables so this was understandable. The Wiener Schnitzel was absolutely delicious and perfectly fried. Not to mention the great, fresh french fries. Also had huge portions would definitely recommend.

Yelp
This place came recommended to us as a good local, Austrian restaurant. When we went in, it was full. The people working there looked at us (family with 2 kids - 6 and 7) and told us they had no space. When i asked how long the wait, they said they don't know. Based on their tone and expression - it was there way of saying don't bother coming back. NOT a place we would recommend. We ended up going to Triangel nearby and that experience was excellent and welcoming.

Yelp
Visited Salzburg five years ago and I remembered loving this place. When we had the good fortune of rolling through Salzburg again this summer, we were determined to track this place down again. It's down a smaller side street in the otherwise busy and touristy part of town, but the food is AWESOME despite being less expensive than other nearby restaurants. On a cold day, the cozy hunting-lodge-like interior is a perfect place to warm up and enjoy something fattening and scrumptious. On a warm day, you can sit outdoors with a good beer and soak up the sun. The portions are generous, the service is friendly, and the food is outstanding.
google avatar

Yelp
Very good food. The gulasch was fine and the Wiener Schnitzel was very big ans the french fries were delicius. In this restaurant you can eat very good and its not too expensive.

Yelp
The drinks were pretty good, the cordon bleu was somewhat tasteless and rubbery and the servers were so deadpan that you could have filled an ocean with all the enthusiasm and warmth that they didnt have.

Yelp
We went to salzburg in september 13 and had a great time, my friend is austrian and told me we had to go to the 'wild man' since he has been there many times since his childhood. it was unforgetably nice and we had so much fun. the food was great and we sat with some other nice people from canada and israel. everybody liked the food and the beer - the atmosphere was just great. i don't remember the service as being unfriendly since we were in good spirits and i guess that rubbed off on the people around us. all in all we are going back on our next trip to austria......

Yelp
Don't expect service with a smile! The waiter was grumpy, bavarian style. But it s part of the charm of this place. We had vegetable strudel an the wilder Mann special ( schnitzel stuffed w mushrooms and bacon). Food was ok but expected more. The strudel tasted ok but was filled w potatoes and overcooked veg. It had been microwaved so pastry was all soggy. Schnitzel was average. There was people chain smoking at one of the tables which was really off putting.

Jen S.

Yelp
Great dinner spot in busy Salzburg! Found this authentic little restaurant by chance while wandering around the city. Sat at a nice table outside and ordered drinks, dinner and dessert. The food was great and was fairly priced! Definitely recommend the wilderman schnitzel!
