Kind staff and very good German food, big dish plates and very good beer. I strongly reccomanded the restaurant. We enjoyed a dinner even if we hadn't a reservation and the waiter was very kind and brought us the food very fast. So, was a very good choice to eat here!

A comfortable traditional guesthouse literally around the corner from the Marktplatz and less than 15 minute walk from the Bahnhof. The room was simple and dated but clean and comfortable. | |The staff were all very friendly and helpful (even the poor housekeeping staff I accidentally scared as we both opened the door at once) . The included breakfast was perfect, a great selection of food and drinks. ||The drinks fridge that was accessible to guests for a small fee was also a lovely addition. ||The only negative was I was unable to heat the room sufficiently but I managed with extra blankets, maybe because it was already very cold when I checked in.

We came here on a recommendation from Bernie at Friese shop, you know it’s good when it’s packed full of locals and you can’t get a seat. The food was unreal, meal size was big. Best German food we’ve had so far! And they accommodated my wife’s gluten allergy perfectly. Thank you!

I just finished a fantastic stay here. The location is perfect, just a block from the main square and Christmas Market, the room was comfortable, the breakfast was filling, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend it.

We are at the restaurant twice. Amazing and authentic. You need reservations to ensure you get seated. This is a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike!

Stopped in for dinner here based on the Google reviews. We walked in at 6 pm and the place was completed empty, must have just opened for the dinner service. The service was very good at this time. The food was mostly good, we got the Jager schnitzel, wiener schinitzel, beet gnocchi plate and roast pork dinner. All were good, except for the pork of the roast pork dinner, which was tough.

Yelp
We found this while walking to the square. Great food. Excellent service and not touristy like we feared. I really enjoyed the wine and the beef was exquisite

Yelp
We returned to Gasthof Butz after about 20 months (mainly due to COVID restrictions), and I think it deserves an updated review. You can count on Gastof Butz to provide very hearty Franconian meals. We enjoy coming here though it's a little out of the way from the city center. That may not be a bad thing since you can avoid most of tourist traffic by venturing out on the side streets. This time I tried Hausgebackener Gemüsestrudel mit Salaten, 9,50€. It's spinach and meat-filled ravioli sliced and cooked with eggs and mixed salad plate (photos). Serving portion is very generous and filled me up very easily. Mixed salad was a very typical Franconian vegetable mix with cabbage slaw, marinated shredded carrots and sliced cucumber under the mound of well-dressed lettuce. Perhaps what was missing was some potato salad, but it was large side salad nonetheless. Salatteller mit gebratener Hähnchenbrust, 10,20€, a salad plate with grilled chicken breast. Salad plate includes aforementioned ingredients plus potato salad (photo). Atmosphere in the dining room is somewhat rustic--very typical of Franconian Gasthof (Inn/Restaurant). Actually, this was the first time we dined in the main dining room. We loved sitting in the patio al fresco during warm summer months in the past. If you are in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, you may want to venture in to the not-so-busy section of this quaint Medieval town and try Gastof Butz for yourself. Warning: Franconian dishes tend to be very hearty--true comfort food. They do traditional pork dishes (including sausages) very well, so be aware.

Yelp
We stayed here again and ate here again. I would give the lodging a 3 or 4, but I would give the restaurant a 5. I had Rinderroulade, which is a fork tender beef with spatzle and red cabbage. It was awesome. My wife got the Sauerbraten which is liked thick sliced roast beef, and it was great. I booked a reservation and when we walked downstairs from our room at 6:25, our table had a reserved sign on it, and we sat down. The breakfast in the morning was the standard Euro breakfast, with sliced meat, cheeses, bread, different jams, yogurt, cereal, boiled eggs, sliced veggies, orange juice, apple juice, and if you request coffee, they will bring you a pot for the table. Our pillows in the room were not good. They look huge, but when you lay your head on them, they go flat. This place is located just outside the square, so it's an excellent location. I parked North of the inn, just outside the city wall. It's €5.50 for 24hrs. Anywhere inside the gate is €1.70 per hour (no 24hr rate) Outside the inn, there is free parking from 6pm to 9am.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this lovely restaurant while strolling around town. The inviting patio instantly drew us in so we decided to sit down for dinner. Luckily there was one last table left since it was dinner hour. DECOR: rustic, welcoming and tastefully decorated interior and patio. They have high chairs for babies. This feels like a place for hanging out with a group of friends and family. FOOD: they had English menus which was very helpful. I was really happy to see some decent vegetarian options among the usual Franconian dishes. I had the potato-pumpkin pancakes with smoked salmon and a side salad. It was probably the best meal I've had on our 2-week trip in Germany! The portions are appropriate not huge but it packed so much flavor and texture. The pancakes were very tasty paired with quality smoked salmon! The dollop of lemon yogurt was perfect for the pancakes. My boyfriend had the regional delicacy - pork knuckles with potato dumplings! He described how tender and flavorful the meat was. It must has been cooking for a while to achieve the fall-off-the-bone texture and yet it still had a good bite instead of all mushy. The dish was very rich just like other Germany dishes. SERVICE: despite the rather slow service, our waiter was very friendly and helpful. He recommended a good local beer and we really liked it. VERDICT: with authentic Franconian dishes, charming outdoor patio and reasonable prices, it's easily the best dinner option in Rothenburg!

Yelp
we were looking for a place for some authentic German food for our last night in Rothenburg o.d.t. and a lot of places were closed on Tuesday. Fortunately we found Gasthof Butz. The sauerbraten and the chicken with mushroom sauce were tender, moist and flavorful. If you're getting gravy, make the side the dumplings. Service was prompt, polite and professional. To top it off, they had decaf coffee (1st time in a week for the Mrs). Perfect end to a great visit.

Yelp
When visiting Rothenburg o. T. in Germany, we decided to have lunch in a traditional Restaurant - a little outside of the main stream of tourists. My wife looked for several options and we landed at the "Gasthof Butz", wich is established local business since more than hundred years in Rothenburg. The first impression was ok. The prices are ok, the Guest room looked as it could be renovated (because somehow old fashioned) but also clean, also the restrooms were old, but clean. We ordered traditional franconian food like Pork knuckle with potato dumplings, Roast Pork with potato dumplings and a "Schnitzel Wiener Style" - and all of us non alcoholic beverages. The food took some time, but was served within nearly half an hour. Meat was tender and spicy. The only down turn was that the dumplings were not completely cooked. In general a no go. I think the dumplings have been put into the water too late. and you could not check wether they were ok or not. But there was a part in the middle that was not cooked, but it was warm, not cold - so, ok. Would I come here again? Maybe as - except the dumplings - all was ok. All the other stuff was good and the service was friendly. The prices are reasonable. Hence - there might be better places. Ranking from 1 to 10 whereas 10 is best Location: 6 Service: 7 Cleanliness: 7 Prices: 7 Freshness: 6 Presentation of food: 3

Yelp
This was a really nice restaurant serving really nice German wholesome food (I have only discovered how nice German food is). Service was very friendly and efficient and very good prices. Recommended to us by a local person which is always a good guide.

Yelp
Very cozy restaurant in downtown Rothenburg. The Jaeger schnitzel meal I had was very good and the staff very friendly. Can't go wrong with a meal here while in R.o.d.T.

Yelp
We sat down at 1215 it is now 110 and not even are appetizer has arrived when asking the server how the table that sat next to us 10 minutes after we arrived already had there appetizer and finished there dinner we were told they "phoned in there order" sounds like the server forgot to place our order. Finally at 115 the soup salad and our entree came??? She says "is it ok if it all comes out together?" NO it is not we specifically asked for the soup and salad first now we wait over an hour because you screwed up then you ask us to take all the food at once! Well the kitchen so far is great the salad had a delicious dressing and was fresh and the goulash is delicious hot fresh perfect! We ordered beefroulade wow the food here is excellent if the service was even average this place deserves five stars but after being treated like a second class citizen because I'm not a local or German I have to leave it an undeserved review because of service. Five stars for the kitchen -1 for service.

Excellent traditional food. Very reasonably priced. Highly recommend. They do speak English
