Once you get to the far side of the bridge, you are presented with the opportunity to hike some fairly short but interesting unpaved trails through the woods, some of which have cool sculptures and art along the trail. One of these trails is a set of switchbacks that takes you down, down, down to a parking lot across the street. As our group reached the bottom of this trail, we turned around and headed back up, only to be accosted by an officious woman with a bullhorn screaming at us to "get off the mountain."
We hadn't left the trail, hadn't left the park, hadn't done anything we shouldn't have done, hadn't gone anywhere we shouldn't have gone, we were valid ticket holders, etc. Bullhorn lady demanded to see our tickets. I asked this woman if she worked for the park and she only replied that "my husband is the manager here." I asked her a second time whether SHE worked for the park, and she somewhat sheepishly showed me her employee ID badge. I pulled out my phone and showed her my ticket, and we were able to de-escalate the situation.
She explained that they were having a problem with people going up that trail without buying tickets. Okay, I can see why that's a problem, but (1) that's a problem for them, not for me, and (2) you cannot solve the problem of people not paying by harassing customers who did everything correctly. And "my husband is the manager here ..." ugh. Like I'm supposed to show my ticket on demand to anyone who deigns to pull rank like that, and can't be bothered to show her own credentials even when prompted? Come on.
My advice would be to skip this place. Employees simply do not have any idea how to treat their customers with respect.
