Gato Preto

I stumbled on this restaurant by accident and I'm glad I did. The food was delicious, the place is lovely and they have a nice library (mostly in french though). I had a brief chat with the french chef and she's absolutely adorable. Highly recommend

We came across Gato Preto by accident, and so glad we did. The food was excellent, very tasty and well presented. The staff are very friendly and efficient. We did not have to wait for long! We will definitely go back!! Highly recommend.

The service and the food was good. But the portion was so small that I had to go to an other restaurant after it.

Very nice place - good food, kind service and nice atmosphere. However, portions are very small for Cabo Verde and for hikers. Maybe for a dinner after working in an office is a good size but definitely not for a meal after a 5-6 h hike. It is on the expensive side - fixed menu about 1700 escudos without drinks - you can get 1 starter, one main and one desert, each plate has three options. They reopened recently and the old reviews are no longer valid. Not possible to pay with card and service a bit slow.

Very rude owner!! Not inviting at all! We only wanted to know if we could get take away so the waitress had to ask the owner for advice and He started to yell at the poor waitress. She was very nice to us but the owner didnt make it very inviting for us to come back. Because i cannot reply to the owners comment: we only went there one time and he started yelling! Our hotel told us that they made a reservation for us so we were surprised that they dont take reservations (OK the hotel then made a mistake) but then of course some questions arise. Also as you can see in his reply He seems like a very inviting person and refuses to speak anything else than french.

If you have the chance, take the menu as it is cheap and super tasty. Most of the ingredients used come directly from or are produced in Santo Antão, as is the fish, fished around the island. The staff was lovely, and live music was playing as well. Totally recommended !

The typical cabo verde kind of restaurant: fish, meat and pasta. Though the thing which sets it aparts from other restaurants is the friendly personnel. Really enjoyed eating our dinner here. 1300 ECV for a menu. Take the banana flambe!
