Great Place! Very welcoming, deck is dog friendly and veteran owned. The staff was so welcoming, and have great recommendations to help you find a wine. Additionally the wood fired pizzas( Fridays, Saturdays and every other Sunday) are amazing! Usually have a special pizza option, Susan and Paula are so personable.

Several places recommended this winery to us and we were not disappointed. The tasting room is bright and airy, looking over a water feature in a wooded area. The owner started us out on our guided tasting. He obviously takes great care and pride in this craft. After he had to attend to a meeting we finished our tasting with his manager, Beverly, with whom we had a great connection. She introduced the character of each wine in a delightful accompaniment to the story of Gauthier. We'd love to come back and bring friends.

This jewel of charm is nestled in a working farm, and its beauty and location are unbeatable. My wife, our corgi Stella, and I went there to try their pizza and enjoy a cool wine on a 90-degree day. As you might be able to tell, the pizza was completely gone by the time I remembered to take a picture for this review. The wine was young but delicious. Stella was given a treat, so everybody in the family was taken care of. I would strongly recommend you to visit this place.

Great wine, delicious food, lot's of places to sit, inside and outside, and beautiful scenery, with plenty of parking. Definitely a place to revisit in warmer weather.

The view is great and everyone appeared to enjoy the pizza. The staff was a little stand-offish. The wine slushies were very refreshing!

My husband and I visited on a busy Sunday. We were immediately greeted, and the tasting room associate directed us to an empty table that just opened up. We each got a flight and a bottle of chardonnay to take home. The wines were good, friendly service and very pretty building. You won't regret stopping by!

Awesome visit! Fast, friendly service. Great tasting with over 10 wines to try for just $14. Everything reasonably priced. Beautiful property to relax on. Enjoyed sangria and a wine slushy by the pond. Brick oven pizza and bacon cheesy bread were fantastic as well!

We came in at 4:25 and were told "we close at 5" in a snarky kind of manner. If we didn't think we could handle a flight each in 35 minutes we would have never gone in. She rushed me, questioned my choices, then saw my husband. I would say, kinda rude, not helpful, not kind. Would not recommend. I'm very sad as we love wine, hospitality & a nice place to visit.

Excellent wine and very friendly staff. The winery is in an excellent location. Surrounded by trees, with a view of the pond and the vines in the distance, makes the experience quite enjoyable. Sitting inside or outside we were able to enjoy the wine and the landscape while eating a freshly made brick oven pizza. I was glad they had a gluten free option available.

Never heard of this vineyard before so we decided to stop by since we were at another one that was close. The wine here is very good and the service is even better ladies. His hair definitely looked out. I'm interested to see what their pizza is like, maybe next time.

First-time visit on July 26 with another couple. This winery is a gem! Wonderful experience between the welcoming and helpful ladies at the tasting (Beverly, MC & Rebekah), nice wines, pizza is outstanding, and the grounds are very inviting. Gauthier Vineyard offers a wonderful tasting room, indoor and outdoor seating, and a bed and breakfast home. The property is quite charming with nice little touches to give you that homey feeling. There a variety of wines - reds, whites, including port-style, dessert, and bubbly selections. My tasting was expertly provided by one of the key staff members, giving detailed descriptions of each wine that were so much more than the general descriptions. A few rules which are quite appealing if you are seeking a pleasant tasting experience and relaxing chats with friends or family: children and dogs are not permitted in the tasting room and limos/bus groups may only come with a reservation. These rules help maintain the calm, relaxing atmosphere focused on adults. I enjoyed the wines so much that I purchase six bottles. I will definitely return to this sophisticated, friendly winery.

Worst wines of the local wineries and they don't allow kids of any age (or cuteness).

Whole experience wine was lovely and pizza was flavorful. The wait-staff at the bar and table service were friendly and helpful. Left with a case between the participants!

Gauthier Vineyards offers a relaxing getaway with views of a peaceful pond featuring a fountain, gazebo, fire pit, and wrap-around porch. Gauthier's variety of wines include the usual whites: Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, and Riesling, and reds--Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Norton, and red blends. In addition, they are currently offering two dessert wines--one white and one red. You can order a 14-wine tasting or a flight of four wines of two-ounce servings. We chose the wine flights, selecting eight different wines between the two of us to try different wines. The vineyard also offers a wine slushy on hot days. Overall, the wines perform very well. In addition to wine, Gauthier has a brick oven in which they make pizzas--ranging from cheese to meat to vegetarian. One pizza feeds two people. You also may bring your own food. We brought salad and dessert to enjoy with our pizza. The vineyard offers crackers and cheeses for purchase. The vineyard offers oysters on some weekends. Check the website. They also run wine dinners, the dates for which are also on their website. Gauthier is located between Richmond and Williamsburg, Virginia. It's a short ride off Route 64. It's open 4/8 pm on Fridays, and 11 am-6 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

First of all, I think wineries are getting lazy pouring the flights and having you take them somewhere else. I want you to tell me about how this wine is made, I want interaction with the person pouring my wine. Secondly, the wines here are all bad. Not one redeeming wine in the 3 flights we tasted. The winemaker needs to know that wine should NOT smell or taste sour. View is nice, that's about the only good thing I can say about this winery. There are way better wineries around than to waste your time at this one.

Please - talk about AMBIANCE for the resident on Farmer's Drive. Residents on Farmers Drive plead with Gauthier Vineyard to turn down intrusive birds sirens with no compromise for the second year in a row. Families and pets are unable to reside peacefully in their own homes and yards due to prehistoric bird screaming nonstop. Residents should not be forced to listen to these ridiculously intrusive bird screams at such loud levels of sound any longer or for any time in the future. Susan Seal

Honestly how have I never even heard of this place!?? This was our third stop, and my absolute favorite. It was on the smaller side but it was definitely more personable which was nice. It was very clean. My friend and I both had a tasting for the sweet wines. I have no idea how I did not take a picture of my sangria because it was absolutely delicious and we took that and set outside on the deck. And got a little chilly so we came back inside which had awesome tables to sit as well. You could definitely come there with the family, there was a family there with the little kids playing with toys on the patio. I absolutely loved that you were able to purchase a box of crackers and that they had a refrigerator with different cheeses, water, meat, and chocolate. It was $5 for a box of crackers and $5 for a box of cheese. It is obviously overpriced but honestly, they could have sold it for more so I think it was reasonable. My friend and I both bought a bottle to take home, I enjoyed a glass of sangria and my friend enjoyed a glass as well. We both bought a water bottle for a dollar each, one of us paid for the crackers and the other paid for cheese. That way when we went outside we split it and enjoyed it. I highly recommend going there. The staff was super nice and I will definitely be back

I loved my experience at Gauthier Vineyard. This winery is tucked away and very peaceful. It was sort of misleading on the gps, but eventually I found it! I visited on a Sunday and there was a nice size crowd, but not too crowded. On every 2nd and 4th Sunday they serve oysters raw, roasted, or fried. I learned that they go very fast, but luckily I made it just in time and ordered a half dozed roasted and half dozen fried. After ordering, the lady working found where we were seated and served us the oysters. In addition, my boyfriend and I ordered 2 wine flights with a variety of wines and snacks as well. We also got 2 wine slushees that were very refreshing in the summertime heat. The people I met were very friendly and also helpful. I am looking forward to returning soon! Such a great place if you are looking to relax, socialize, and enjoy some wine.

What a pleasant experience at this establishment. The grounds were beautiful and the service was warm and inviting . We had a sampler of different wines and order pizza that we paired with our wine.

Gauthier is on the small side - 2,500 cases/year and 5 acres under vine - but they definitely know what they are doing. While they have some vines on the property, most of their grapes are grown in the Shenandoah. This is a point in their favor because it allows them to produce varietals I don't see often in central VA. My friend / wino co-conspirator & I left impressed, enough so that I suspect they may hit 5 stars on my next visit. When you walk in, the horse theme is readily apparent. The former US Navy owner is something of a horse fanatic, and his sister owns the stables next door. During my visit the servers were swamped, but they MORE than mollified my feelings by pouring a generous tasting to distract us during the wait. If only every vineyard would do this! Whites: I'm not a huge white fan, but as whites go, I thought theirs were above average. The French Oak Chardonnay had only a hint of butter. I enjoyed the honeysuckle nose to the Viognier. The Traminette and especially the Reisling were nice (again big advantage to growing in the Shenandoah). I didn't find anything special about the Gazebo Blanc white blend, but certainly didn't dislike it. Reds: I think Reds are where Gauthier really shines. Most are barrel aged around 18 months and all the vintages were 2012 or 2013. Special kudos for this, since most VA wineries barely have time to barrel age their wines a year, and serve them nearly immediately. It breaks my heart to see places serving 2014 reds in early 2016, but I digress... The 2012 Chambourcin Rose was very light in color and not overly sweet. It was also a huge contrast to the regular 2012 Chambourcin, which was very intense. The 2012 Cab Franc had green pepper but not the spiciness I sometimes see elsewhere. The 2012 Brick House Red blend was OK, but my favorite by far was the 2013 Petit Verdot, which had a nice body. Desert wines: While you normally only get the option of trying either the Port-style or white desert wine, my partner & I combined forces and shared each. The Chambourcin Rochambeau port was very intense, while the Viognier based Lafayette Reserve desert was not bad either. Before I forget, a special shout out to the tasting room. While they didn't have pizza during my visit, apparently there are plans in place to use their brick oven to serve pizza & wine in the future. But even now, if you bring your own frozen pizza you can cook it there. Sounds like lunch plans to me!

Love Gauthier!!! They have the best pizza with tons of toppings. Enjoy it with a Brickhouse Red. You won't be disappointed. Finish it off with a wine slushy. Look out for a brain freeze.

We love going to here on the second and fourth Sundays for the oyster lunch, it's like $15 for 12 really big oysters. They have yummy wood fired pizza on Saturdays. We also enjoy the $10 rosé sparkling wine!!! We always take home a couple of bottles. Hope this never fired away. You can bring your own food and most importantly for my wife and kids, they are dog friendly. It's always nice to walk around pet a dog cuz they're always happy to see you. It's also only about 40 minutes from our house which makes it a nice drive.

Gauthier Vineyard is a fairly new winery, about a year and a half old. The tasting room is beautiful, it still smells like a new home. The decor is modern and classy, it looks sort of like a model home. There's a wrap around porch with and upstairs and a downstairs, it's absolutely gorgeous. There's a small lake as well, a gazebo further out for parties, and some chairs set up in front of the lake to hang out. It's absolutely gorgeous, relaxing, and peaceful. It really makes you feel like you're at home, just hanging out. Nothing pretentious or stiff about Gauthier at all. This was our second stop on a wine tour around New Kent. We came around a 2:00 pm on a Saturday to help celebrate my best friend's birthday. There were about 9 of us, and luckily it was slightly empty inside. Two of the ladies helped give us a wine tasting, and they were awesome. They were informative and very friendly. The wines weren't too bad. I do prefer the wine at Saude Creek Winery, but they are so much more friendly here. The wines were a little more dry and some had a buttery aftertaste than Saude Creek. The normal tasting was $7, and you get to keep the glass. Some of my group decided to continue on with the reserve tasting, but I decided to just get one of the wine slushies. That wine slushie was dangerously good, I downed it in 10 minutes. They also sell pizza the owner makes in an outdoor oven. I tried a piece, and it was hot, fresh and the cheese was bubbling. Yum. I wandered around the area a little bit and sat by the water. It was so peaceful, that I actually ended up falling asleep for a little bit. It got a little bit more crowded and louder later in the afternoon, but I'm a huge fan of this place. The view, the wine, and the service are all great. I can't wait to come back in the fall, where I'm sure it'll be even more gorgeous. This is a must if you're setting up a wine tour in the New Kent/Williamsburg area!

The wine is good and it's a great atmosphere! Pizza is excellent, but the oysters are just okay. You can get them raw or roasted with home made cocktail sauce. There's a huge fire pit and a lot of nice outdoor deck seating.

I've spent two wonderful afternoons at Gauthier, and hope to be able to visit again shortly! I generally venture out to Nelson County for my wine days, but sometimes you just need something a tad closer to home. I really enjoy Gauthier's wines (I prefer my wine dry), and both times, the people doing our tasting have been wonderful. They have a vineyard puppy which roams around, and that always makes me a happy girl when I can drink wine and pet pups! Their porch is large and has plenty of seating, or you can go down to their fire pit/lawn.

What a fantastic winery, just down the road from Williamsburg and only a few miles off of I-64. The setting is laid back- there is absolutely nothing pretentious about the winery. It has the feel of a family retreat home. The staff and volunteers are warm and friendly. I had a solo wine tasting on a gorgeous day and was impressed with the individual attention and detail I received. And while $10 may seem a tad high compared to other tastings, this was worth it as there were more than 10 total wines. I loved everything, but the Chardonnay and Traminette were my absolute favorite. The Chardonnay had a buttery finish that hit the spot, while the Traminette had a floral character that was smooth and appreciated on the warm day. After my tasting I had a wine slushie and enjoyed the view of the pond and vineyards in the distance. I WILL be back. This is the best wine and nicest staff I've experienced at a Virginia winery.

Given my experience with other vineyards in the area, I will admit that I had somewhat low expectations for Gauthier Vineyard. However, I really ended up enjoying their reserve tasting. My boyfriend and I came on a Saturday afternoon and were immediately able to start our tasting. The woman helping us was very attentive and thoroughly explained each wine to us. My favorites of the tasting were the Chambourcin and the port-style wines (served with chocolate, which was a nice touch). Definitely worth a visit!

Super friendly staff and a nice environment. On this trip, wasn't terribly impressed by the tasting that took place. The Rochambau port-style wine was good enough to have a full glass after the tasting, but nothing was strong enough to consider purchasing a bottle this time. I will try again, and tasted a few whites that probably would appeal to some people, but will likely wait until next year.

This is a beautiful, cozy place. We loved it! It feels like a friend's house with the long bar, deep, comfy couches, high top tables, and the deck overlooking the water. We enjoyed all sorts of wine and were able to taste before purchasing even though we didn't have time for a full tasting. The woman working the bar was so sweet and helpful. She was patient with us and very friendly. I'd love to come back to try their pizza and more wine but what we did have was great. The sangria is different from your normal, but delicious! They could use another bathroom only because a line tends to form when there's only one for everyone but that's not a huge deal.

What a great newish vineyard! We (11 girls and a baby) stopped by on our way to another vineyard because we had extra time to kill for the bachelorette party, and I was impressed. I loved that they are dog friendly, and look forward to being able to bring our dog here. There is an outdoor oven where there will be pizzas cooked! YUM! Except I'm gluten free. :( I actually bought a sweet white port "Lafayette's reserve", that I enjoyed tasting with white chocolate chips... I'm not normally a sweet wine or port drinker, but this was good! Definitely a perfect dessert!!! Staff was very kind and friendly. Looking forward to coming back.

I really wasn't expecting this wine to be good, since I was in Virginia. I'm not saying we don't have decent wines, but it's usually the exception. On the way home from Williamsburg, Google Maps took us through a shortcut from I-64 to West Point and I'm so glad it did. Dad was driving and mom and I were like "Turn here, Turn here!!" at the exact same time. I'm not saying my mom and I are winos, but I'm pretty sure my dad thought his life depended on turning into that lane at that very moment. The property was gorgeous and the place itself kind of looked like a large house. With a wraparound portch. Mom got the white tasting and I got the red. The Reds were all very drinkable, tasted young but smooth. Oddly enough, my favorite wine there was actually a white wine. I was shocked. I actually bought a bottle of it rather than any of the Reds. It was a Traminette (named after the grape) and it was glorious. It was floral, not too sweet, not too dry, and no acid at all. Also, our wine taster said she was a volunteer, and that they ask that any tips be donated to Wounded Warriors instead. How cool is that?

We stopped by the newest winery on 64 on one Saturday afternoon and immediately noticed the quaint, cabin-like feel of the property. Very relaxing and tranquil. We opted for the standard tasting, which the owner kindly took us through. You could tell he was very-hands on about the wines and process, which I always much prefer to one of those large, fancy places where the owner just finances everything and is never around. They are still a little green on some of the wines, but of particular mention is the Petit Verdot, which was not only our favorite but the owner's favorite as well. They have a nice outdoor patio over looking a lake and a beautiful tasting room. We were in a bit of a rush that day so didn't have time to get a glass and sit outside but I look forward to returning and seeing them evolve.

Great atmosphere and good wine. They do have an ant problem and are all over the deck. However, we did have an issue with one of the workers who had black curly hair. She kept harassing my kids who both had ID's and showed them to drink and were of age. She was very rude and watched us the whole time and just made us feel uncomfortable.

This is a nice stop in an area with many good wineries! The atmosphere was nice and cozy on a cold February afternoon. They have inviting seating with a fireplace. The service was friendly, helpful and accomodating. Our server was very nice, but no nametags, so we didn't know her name. The wine was very good, especially the chardonnay and the traminette! Four stars for some of the wine was overly acidic and gave me a sour stomach by the end of my tasting (which is very unusual for me). Would highly recommend a visit any time of the year!

Gauthier Vineyard was the first stop of three vineyards for our wine tour on a perfect day in October. I was truly blown away by the atmosphere, attentive and hospitable staff and most importantly the delicious wine! We got to try an array of wines and our lovely hostess (the daughter of the owners) took us off tasting a few times to let us try some of their other wines as well. My favorites are the Traminette 2013 which has a nice floral flavor. You can literally smell the rose petals. It was absolutely incredible. I was also a huge fan of their Petit Verdot. It has a subtle spice, and expressions of dark fruit and leather. I LOVED this one. Also topping my list is their perfectly balanced Riesling 2012 and their 2011 Brick House Red which is a nice blend of their Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Chambourcin. Totally drinkable. We bought a few bottles and enjoyed lunch relaxing, sipping wine and gazing at the lake on the huge wraparound porch. Now I just need to head back today to pick up a bottle of their 2012 Viognier. I can't get the delicious buttery flavor out of my head. Do yourself a favor and go enjoy yourself at Gauthier. Of all three wineries we visited, this was my favorite by far. It will not disappoint.

We love Gauthier because the wine is yummy and it is so peaceful and quiet! It's also dog friendly which makes it a perfect spot for us! There is s beautiful covered, wrap-around porch with comfy chairs and tables! Enjoy the view of a sweet little pond as you sit in the quite and sip your wine! They do have some cheese, but for a perfect day bring some snacks of your own! Love it! We will be back!

My partner-in-wine and I stopped here on our way to Virginia Beach this past weekend as the second of 2 winery stops along the way and we were both quite satisfied with our visit! Pros: we both received a little gratis pour as we waited to do our tasting (the tasting room was short-staffed when we arrived). That was greatly appreciated! Once we started our tasting, our server Kathy was very knowledgeable about the wines and very friendly to us both. She even went to ask one of her colleagues a question that my friend had posed, so that she would have the correct answer. I really loved Gauthier's whites while my friend opted for the reds. We both got the extra dessert wine pours ($2 more) and the Eiswein-esque white port really 'spoke' to me. We had brought some snacks which we were able to eat inside even (!)- a real treat since many wineries seem to demand that picnics take place outdoors only- and we continued our enjoyment with a glass each of our favorites from the tasting. Cons: I can't think of anything about Gauthier that I would change or improve; their prices were about average and their tasting pours were as well. Sadly they haven't started their pizza production outside yet but perhaps the next time I am down that way, I will be able to enjoy some crusty 'za alongside my vino! Also: whether or not you happen to know any French, the vineyard is pronounced "goat T yay". The more you know..!

We stopped in with some friends of ours... all four of us have been to more than 150+ wineries in VA and are pretty well-versed in all VA wines, from good to bad, stainless to oaked whites, grand to small and family owned and can honestly say that this one did very nicely with us all. We were treated nice, as the staff and owner were friendly. We just happened to go on a weekend when they were offering Oysters Rockefeller, caught fresh from local waters the day before. This was a great "freebie" to customers who bought wine. Since we really enjoy oak fermentation with whites, we were REALLY happy with their offerings and blends as well. Overall, we enjoyed our visit. A gem in the rough! Beautiful, tranquil location! So relaxing to sit out and enjoy a nice glass of wine! The wine is good too! We brought some snacks, so am still giving 4 stars despite watching the guy making pizza continually "snack" on the toppings as he made and cooked pizza....I would suggest passing on the pizza and bring your own goodies!! It's worth visiting!!!!

Wines were good. Pourer was fantastic. She made me so hungry talking about food that would pair well with the wines. As I tried to take photos of the property a man on a 4-wheeler approached me and was extremely rude. I wasn't even past the gravel walk way so not far on the property at all and after his nonsense I chose to immediately leave. Won't be back because of that.They need to respect their guests especially since I asked before I left the tasting room if I could take pics outside. After all that good wine, I left with a bad taste in my mouth.

Especially wondrous winery! Staff, atmosphere, wine... all excellent. Do not be fooled by the small stature upon arriving to the newest winery of the local bunch. Veteran owned and operated. Friday you get a free fire ovened pizza with bottle purchase. Do not skip the wine slush! A must on summer days, unreal. Love our favorite winery.

This place is very racist. They denied the service of a African American veteran but served her husband(Caucasian) and then called the police once her husband said something about it. I post this same comment on their Facebook page only for them to delete it. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

My boyfriend and I had a great experience at Gauthier vineyards over the Memorial Day weekend. The owners were very military friendly, having both retired from the Navy, and the staff, instead of taking tips, ask you to give that money to the wounded warrior foundation. We loved the grounds, which is dog and picnic friendly both inside and outside. After our wine tasting we sat outside on the large wrap our porch and enjoyed the view of the lake. There is a lot of picturesque outside seating and we will be going back with the kids to let them run around and eat. On Fridays, they offer free cheese or pepperoni pizza made from their brick oven outside when you purchase a bottle of wine. The Rose was our favorite, but their Reisling was great as well. I like sweet wines but they tend to give me headache. The Reisling was sweet but not to sweet, a perfect balance.

I would give 6 starts if it were possible. Great selections of wine, homey atmosphere, and the most friendly and gracious service. What more could you ask for? I'd go back and bring everyone I knew. Very new and up and coming and pet friendly. They said you could bring a picnic if you wanted!

I cannot say enough about our amazing experience here! In December 2015, Myself and 5 girlfriends planned a little wine getaway for January 2016. When the time came for us to take our trip, the area was being hit by a snow storm. The family welcomed us into their beautiful tasting room with love and warmth. We shared a tasting, a few bottles of wine and then they brought us pizzas! On top of offering this unforgettable experience, the wines were amazing! We will certainly be back.

Loved Gauthier Vineyard. Enjoyed all of their wines, although the Chambourcin and Starboard were our favorites. Tasting room staff was personable and super knowledgeable about all the wineries in the area. Gorgeous venue and classy decor. This is a winery you're going to want to sit and stay a while at.

The wines were great and the port was fabulous. The biggest surprise was how family friendly and pet friendly they are. Loved them.

A hidden gem. Was in town for a conference and came on a Friday evening. Did a tasting of about 10 wines. Wine is comparably priced for a small winery. The Port was delicious. Owner and wine maker introduced himself and gave a private tour of the facility. Facility overlooks. Private lake and has a pizza oven and fire pit. I have been to many Virginia wineries and this one was by far the most welcoming! It's a shame I live so far away because I would defiantly come more often!!

Very impressed with this winery. Aimee made it a very friendly outing as she wanted to engage us with conversation and not just push wine on us. The dog-friendly atmosphere made it feel like you were in a living room with friends instead of a business establishment. The view from the porch overlooks a small lake and vineyards. Very relaxing to share a bottle of wine and pass the time away. Wine was quite good and the military discount much appreciated.

We have been here a few times and while I can agree that at times the service is slow the reason behind this is simple, they take the time to talk to and engage with their customers. The people working the tastings are extremely knowledgeable about the wines and the local history and I for one am grateful that they take the time to impart that knowledge. The winery itself is off the grid and uses solar power for the majority of its needs. The wines, while still young, are easy to enjoy and different enough to stand out. Plus, they are truly pet and kid friendly. If you decide to come, take your time and enjoy relaxing on the outdoor porch. This has become our new favorite winery destination near New Kent.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Gauthier with Aimee and met another couple also celebrating their anniversary too. The wine was most excellent and stories of the wines were given with excellence also. Great location and venue.

Recently had a surprise birthday party for my wife here along with 20 other people including friends and their children. They were very accommodating and made things just perfect. They were very easy to deal with and was just like talking to your friends that wanted to go out of their way to make things right. The event was perfect and the wine was wonderful. We Recently went back on our own for a bottle of wine and some pizza and it was just like being part of a family. Great experience.
