Gavião do Ilhéu

​If I could give this place more than 10 stars, I would! We visited this wonderful restaurant four times during our stay, and each visit was just as perfect as the first. ​It is a quick and easy 15-minute drive from Funchal, and it is worth every single minute. The atmosphere is absolutely lovely, creating the perfect setting for a memorable meal. ​What truly makes this place special is the people: ​The Owner: She is incredibly kind and makes you feel like family the moment you walk in. ​The Service: Absolutely perfect. Attentive, professional, and very friendly. ​The Chefs: Pure geniuses! The food is out of this world—delicious, fresh, and beautifully prepared. ​I recommend this restaurant with all ten fingers! Lovely restaurant with friendly and truthful waiters. We ate parrot fish which was fresh and was done perfectly and it was flavorful. We also had limpets they were also cooked nicely. But we didn’t like the texture . Might be it was our first time and had high expectations about limpets. They are chewy so we didn’t like them so much. Not our cup of tea I must say. We also ate prawns. And the waiter was truthful about them being frozen so +1 stars for such honesty. The prawns were flavorful .

We had a fantastic lunch at Gavião do Ilhéu. The mussels (six pieces) were perfectly marinated with just the right balance of garlic and lemon – absolutely delicious. The garlic bread was perfection, warm and full of flavor. The fish sandwich was incredible – fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Fries were okay, just standard frozen ones, but everything else more than made up for it. Highly recommend for the seafood and beautiful flavors. Service was friendly knowing that the area is touristy and the atmosphere overall is cool.

Excellent restaurant, a gem in Camara de Lobos. From service, very hospitable, and with a friendly staff who had a nice presentation of the food, fresher than here you cannot get. We wanted to try the fish, it was fresh caught in that morning, chose them and we received them grilled. Food was very tasty, not a big fan of fish in general, but this is something that I would definitely try again in the future. It's not the cheapest restaurant, but in the end it's all worth it.

Nice place where you can try local food. Poncho is tasty and so is the fish - any fish really. The chef sandwich is highly recommended though.

Very good restaurant with nice prices and great service. We ate scabbard fish with banana and another one with maracuja glaze. Dishes were served nicely and fast. The waiters are very professional. The food was amazing. Vinho Verde very good.

Five stars for a perfect fish dish! We had an amazing dinner at Gavião do Ilhéu (don’t ask me how to pronounce it). The fish was absolutely perfect – crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. We started with a tuna tartare that was so fresh, it felt like it had just jumped out of the ocean. The service was super friendly and welcoming, just how you’d imagine a cozy little harbour spot to be. Tucked away in the charming streets around the harbour, this place is a real gem. If you’re nearby: go, eat, enjoy, thank me later.
