I visited Gaztelugatxe on February 26, 2026, during a cruise stop in Getxo. Before going, I was a bit worried after reading some reviews saying the hike was demanding any that you needed at least 2/2,5 hours, but I decided to give it a try — and I’m so glad I did!
My main challenge was getting there from the port of Getxo, as there are no direct buses to Gaztelugatxe. I decided to take an Uber from the Getxo port, which cost around €55 and took about 55 minutes. I arrived around 9:10 a.m. and was the first visitor of the day. In February, you don’t need to book a time slot — you can just go.
The hike itself was very accessible and not difficult at all (I’m from Madeira Island, so I’m used to much tougher trails). You can easily do it in about 1 hour, even with regular comfortable shoes. If you take time for photos, plan for a bit longer — the views are stunning and absolutely worth it.
After the hike, I took another Uber back to the Getxo port (about €62). One tip: book your return trip in advance, as there are usually no Ubers available nearby when leaving Gaztelugatxe.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience and a highlight of my trip — I highly recommend it!
