"Just the sort of place you always wish you could stumble across, down a dusty track on the way to the bluest sea. Here are three hidden-away, architect-designed angular houses, Can Aire, Can Mar, and Can Terra, each with a handful of rooms. They feel like small apartments in the smartest imagining, with shaded private terraces for hand-delivered breakfasts of freshly baked bread and sticky jams. The three Madrid-based owners hunted and hunted for a property in Formentera, having fallen for it on holiday, but it took them two years to find anything remotely workable. And then, fortuitously, the German owner of this plot decided to retire. Orange, lemon, and olive trees were planted to soften the surrounding fragrant scrubland, a swimming pool was put in, and they called on designer Paty Pombo for her modern-vintage take on island style. Rattan peacock chairs now sit alongside rough-hewn wooden swings, railway sleepers take shape as bed platforms, and woven-straw and rope-strung lamps decorate the corners. It’s a textural riot. Ferns pop out of mini planters and baskets of dried garden lavender make the air sweet. As in Puglia, prickly pear leaves hang like decorations against the outside walls. The white-white sand of Migjorn beach is a 10-minute walk away, and the path leads straight to Kiosko 62, a ramshackle beach shack with sensational sunsets and strong Mojitos. There’s no need to venture any further. Book now at Booking.com Book now at Agoda This article was originally published on Condé Nast Traveller UK." - Lauren Burvill

Stayed at this hotel last year and absolutely loved it.|Beautiful place with generally very good friendly staff.|What lets it down is the food. It really doesn't measure up for a hotel of this calibre. It fails on both the presentation which s very basic and the taste. Had 3 very mediocre meals. |Caesar Salad - everything just placed separately around the plate, lettuce only swarming in dressing|Seabass - over cooked but nice grilled vegetables as a side|Beef stir fry - thick heavy sauce, fatty beef and over cooked vegetables.|We were asked if we enjoyed the beef as we had hardly eaten any. I said as you have asked it's not for me. When pressed I said what I don't like about it. The waiter then proceeded to tell me he had eaten it and it was delicious and maybe it just wasn't to my taste but nothing wrong with it. - not good practice when I said the beef was fatty etc. I just told him he asked for my feedback and wasn't interested in how he found it. Quite rude from a waiter. The rest of the waiting and general staff were lovely.|Very disappointed and have no desire to return as the whole point to stay in a nice hotel is to have food better than average. This was not even average.

Perfect place to relax and enjoy a very chilled vibe a very short distance from Ibiza Town. |Attentive, yet laid back and friendly staff. The food is fresh and tasty.|The beach has a boardwalk for a large portion, so there is an opportunity for some lovely walks and swims in the clear, blue sea.

Stunning location right on the water. The beach is beautiful and you can take endless walks (it is 10 km long!!) even though the sea at this time of year is still a bit too fresh for my taste.||Great hotel staff, very friendly and willing to please. The food in the restaurant and the beach club was excellent, specially the ceviche and the rice dish. We combined days with lunch at the hotel and dinner outside or viceversa, which was a great combination. ||Had a couple of great massages and also visited other beautiful beaches on the island.||Overall a great hotel for a nice stay of dolce farniente on this wonderfully laid back island. Have already booked to return in July and September.

We stayed for 3 nights in Gecko. The Hotel is like a boutique hotel. Very nice, well decorated and the service is amazing. We stayed in a room with a small pool facing the garden. We had dinner in the restaurant which was very nice (service and food). The swimming pool is amazing and the beach very nice just 10 meters from the hotel swimming pool. We padel surf and used the kayak also. Will come back for sure

First time back to Gecko in 5 years. Location is still best on island, but the hotel is now looking quite tired.||I was there for an excellent yoga retreat run by Anna & Yannis, so very well looked after. Food & pool amazing.||My hesitation in recommending to friends is simply down to the tiredness of the rooms. Beds, bedding, towels, furniture all now quite worn & not commensurate with the calibre & cost of hotel.||Hoping there are plans to address.

We did a beach pass for the day coming from Ibiza. The beach club was so nice and clean. The food was amazing and the service was also great. Devash was a particularly attentive server and made our day experience great!

The Gecko is a terrific small hotel right on the beach on Formentera, and has great food and sensational service. The rooms are on the small size considering their price level, but......there are so many things to do at the hotel and around the island that one is only in the room in the evening. Some rooms have their own plunge pools, and direct access to the pretty garden.

We went to Gecko to spend a day at the beach club. In the website they say that kids are allowed to go in after 31 of August. We arrived and needed to wait a long time for them to see that we were right. 200 euros for 2 adults and 2 kids for a swimming pool, 4 sun chairs and towels; - the concierge is VERY very snobby - there is no place at the beach to stay - the toilet was smelling terrible and dirty - I asked to a girl at the bar for a cup and she gave me a wet one smelling alcohol - and after all, the beach is just “ok” My advice: you can spend your day in another place, with people that are trained to treat you kindly, in a beautiful beach and good food. Ps: the staff that are around the pool serving beverages and food are very nice and helpful
