Geghard Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a remarkable medieval complex partially carved into the cliffs of the Azat River gorge. Founded in the 4th century and expanded in the 12th–13th centuries, it is famous for its rock-cut churches, intricate carvings, and beautiful khachkars. The monastery was historically a spiritual center and is said to have housed the spear that wounded Christ. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs and lush nature, Geghard offers both profound history and breathtaking scenery, making it one of Armenia’s most iconic sites.
