Stadiums should be able to move people in and out quickly, provide a robust experience, have unimpeded sightlines, and be unique. Gone are the days of multi-purpose, cookie cutter venues; now we expect billion-dollar cathedrals where we can enjoy the quasi-civic institutions that are pro sports.
Arrowhead (or, more recently, 'GEHA Field at Arrowhead') has a mystique about it. Success on the field brings fans to the seats and Kansas City has seen its fair share of success (13 seconds, anyone?). The roar of the crowd at Arrowhead is unlike nearly anywhere else, with a measured decibel level once recorded over 142db, which is like being just steps away from a jet engine. If you value your long-term hearing, then take a few precautions before you watch the Chiefs at home!
Should you have the time, make your way through the newly renovated Chiefs Hall of Fame, with AFL history, artifacts, and a timeline of the football franchise that has made its home in Kansas City since 1963. I have been fortunate to have visited other facilities in other cities, and the Chiefs' facilities rank right at the top with anyone else.
The sports complex that includes the Royals' facilities was envisioned in the late 60's and has been hosting events for more than five decades. It is STILL one of the most accessible, efficient, and enjoyable venues in the country. No, there isn't a roof, or 200' LCD TV's hanging overhead, but the is a FOOTBALL stadium, where the elements and the crowd affect the game in so many ways. Ask anyone who has been: Arrowhead is a treasure. Maybe it isn't the most modern, but it is perhaps the most fun, and isn't that why we want to be entertained? It is the home..of..the..CHIEFS!!!!
