I am a big fan of unusual flavors of gelato, and I happened to be remotely in the area, so I decided to give this a try, despite the fact that some people gave it very low ratings. Like others, I was bummed to learn about the no tasting policy, which I have not experienced elsewhere in Italy. (Wasn't mentioned in the Google reviews that I read, though people mention it here.) I decided to go with ginger, since it's something I can get elsewhere in Italy, and since I love ginger.
The second star in this review is for the fact that the ginger flavor was very bright and true -- clearly there was a lot of fresh ginger used. However, everything else about it was wrong. One of the most remarkably un-creamy gelatos or even ice creams I've ever had, and it was way too soft -- to the point of being almost melted. After a took a bite, and realized that the other one star reviews weren't off, I actually almost went back to tell the person that there was something wrong with it -- at the very least, that it wasn't cold enough. But, eh, I don't speak Italian, and luckily I only got one scoop so it wasn't a huge financial investment. As I kept eating (only because the ginger flavor was enjoyable), I found both ice crystals a few tiny lumps of...something in there I have no idea what, as they were flavorless.
In summary: molto disappointing.
