Gelateria La Romana dal 1947 is the ultimate place to have the best gelato experience!! There are a couple of locations in Rome, but this one in Magna Grecia is the one our party of 4 visited for the first time. It was everything we wanted and needed to end our packed day of sightseeing, which included visiting two of the churches in our 2025 Jubilee Holy Door Pilgrimage — St. Paul Outside The Walls and St. Mary Major. Two beautiful churches that should be on every visitor’s list. St. John in Lateran was just as spectacular the night before, and St. Peter’s in the Vatican was going to be our last one the next day. We passed up many gelaterias throughout the day, since all of them didn’t have the proper storage of gelato. Please do not settle for subpar gelato that’s displayed openly in the case. High quality gelato should be stored in the stainless steel containers with a lid. Good gelato has muted colors, and those with vibrant colors have artificial ingredients to appeal to your eyes. For example, pistachio shouldn’t be bright green. We have our server, Simoné to thank. at Le Foodie Cafe Bistro nearby, who highly recommended this gelateria. After an excellent meal, off we went into the cold December night. As soon as we stepped into this cozy shop, nicely decorated for Christmas, we knew we found the best place. They offer crepes also, and the aroma was inviting. Yet we were full from dinner and were focused on gelato. Paolo greeted us warmly. He was very friendly and attentive. He offered us samples, but we all knew what we wanted after looking at their extensive variety. We were eager for the main event — sitting down to savor every moment. We opted for 4 flavors, and at 5 euros each, that was quite a bargain. My very full cup had pistachio, zabaione, stracciatella, and hazelnut combination with fresh whipped cream made in house, and a crunchy cookie topper. It was the absolute perfect ending to a glorious day in Rome! We already miss it, and we are looking forward to our next visit to Gelateria La Romana dal 1947! Five stars as it is! Truly convinced we found the best gelato in town! The display looked so appealing as soon as we arrived we just wanted to try everything, even after being stuffed from dinner.

If you’re looking for a picture perfect escape, this is the place to be! The canal bank offers breathtaking bridge views and the true charm of the Venice Canal. Surrounded by cozy restaurants and amazing food, it’s the perfect spot to relax, dine, and enjoy the magical ambiance.

Gelato was really silky and smooth. There were some Netflix collaboration flavors available but we went with Coffee and Hazelnut for one and the seasonal Pumpkin and Crema 1947.

The best, the greatest, the tastiest, the most generous gelato I ever had!!!! How could I ever eat an ice cream after that. They melt chocolate at the bottom to appraciate the cone even more!!! I need to have that in Paris. Please!!!!

Visited this place on January 17th with my family. While the gelato tastes good, the service is absolutely terrible and completely unacceptable. After we already had eaten 3 medium size of ice cream, We asked to taste one flavor before buying a large takeaway box. A male staff member responded in a rude and dismissive way, told us to pay first, and then ignored us entirely, choosing to serve customers who arrived after us. We were left standing there for a long time without any explanation or attention. That rude guy was looking at us disgustingly, disrespectfully and ignoring us, as he said “First pay and then I will pay attention to you”. I believe he is filipino, after I asked him the name started rolling his eyes at the and went to wash something in different area, Then the girl name on her badge was Alessia(was not written properly) started to scream at us an stared protecting his colleague and that we are not allowed to ask him the name. I explained that i need the name to speak with management , “she said manager is not here and you can’t do nothing “ After i see a lot costumers complaining about service you have maybe she already knew that I really will not be able to change anything because you just don’t care about us. Like this you are loosing new and even old clients. Only one employee behaved professionally and helped us, which shows that good service is possible here. Unfortunately, another staff member, Alessia, spoke to us in an aggressive and disrespectful manner and accused us of disturbing their service, even though no service was provided to us at all. This level of customer service is shocking. After reading other reviews, it’s clear that this location has a serious problem with rude, untrained staff and no respect for customers. No matter how good the product is, terrible service ruins everything. Kindly ask management ,if someone cares about customer service - to check the camera footage on 17th Jan 2026 around 23:00, (we paid before around 21:35.) Strongly not recommended.😢😒🤯😡 I would rate this experience by 0. Not even 1 star but it’s impossible unfortunately. ☹️☹️😖

Another staff member, Alessia, spoke to us in a rude and confrontational way and accused us of interrupting their service, even though no service was provided to us at all. After reading other reviews, it’s clear this is a common problem at this location: rude, untrained staff and no respect for customers. Good gelato means nothing when the service is this bad. I do not recommend this place due to the unacceptable attitude of the staff❌❌

This place is a complete embarrassment. The level of rudeness and disrespect we experienced was shocking and degrading. The staff were openly mocking, dismissive, and hostile, speaking to us in a sarcastic, almost aggressive tone, as if our presence was a problem. We were literally begging for basic attention, while being ignored, barked at, and treated with clear contempt. There was zero professionalism, zero courtesy, and absolutely no respect for customers. The atmosphere was toxic and humiliating. This is not customer service — this is arrogance, incompetence, and blatant disrespect wrapped into one. A place that treats people this way should seriously reconsider being open to the public. If you value your time, mood, and dignity, stay far away. This was an extremely unpleasant and disgraceful experience. 😢🥺😡😡
