Great place. Large assortment and variety of food to choose from. Everyone is bound to find something to like. Good selection of craft beers to choose from the connected LB Brewing. Wait staff was incredible.

Google
This is a must when visiting Hays. My husband and 1 stayed one night in Hays but made a point to go based on other reviews and I can't be happier we did. Food was delicious. The fried dough appetizer sounds strange but was realy good. My husband got the flight of beer and enjoyed all of them. They have a beer for anyone's taste. If beer isn't your thing they have a great cocktail menu as well. Even if you are a non drinker the food is worth a trip on its own. We had the best service and the atmosphere was good. Prices are also responsible.

Google
Really nice place. I honestly wasn't expecting it to be that nice. It's probably 10 or 15 minutes off i70, but definitely worth the detour. The place is HUGE. They did a great job converting the old building and bringing it back to life. It could maybe use a tiny bit of attention to detail cleaning. Just some fingerprints and dust bunnies hanging around that appeared to have been there a while. Food was really good. We were in at an odd time so the servers were having to multitask with their afternoon duties, but she still did a good job.

Google
Loved it! The food and service was great! Highly recommend! Loved the chicken pesto pasta, the stroganoff, and thr teriyaki wings! Our server was so kind and attentive!

Google
Absolutely LOVED this place. My husband and I made a quick one night stop in this cute town and decided we would try out Gellas. We were blown away by how nice the inside was, the service was perfect with friendly staff, tons of different kinds of fun drinks and beers, and the prices were astonishingly lower than I would have expected! We got the cheese curds, the chicken fried chicken, and the bourbon sliders and they were so incredible. We have already planned to extend our trip on the way back just so we can eat here again 10/10 recommend!

Google
Walked in and greeted promptly. I was asked if I’d like a bar seat or table. It was nice to have the options since I was dining by myself. I tried the pork chop and it was delightful!! It has apples on top and I was not expecting it to be so good!! I also had a brûlée French toast and wow!! I haven’t had a desert that good in a while. The flavors were impactful but not overwhelming. It had some ice cream and fresh fruit which helped balance it out.

Google
Cute place with plenty of space. Food was okay, nothing too much to complain about. Husband enjoyed the beer. However. The service was wacky. Maybe our gal was new? Although sweet, she seemed easily confused and didn’t seem like she had clear idea of what was going on - we just felt as if it was a really rough night for her. We struggled to get seen timely, she tried to give us a check before we had even gotten food, had to ask for some items multiple times. I think we’d try this place again, but maybe it’d have to be during a less busy time of day.

Google
Excellent gem with tasty beers and fantastic food. I highly recommend the gebble as an appetizer. The variety in the menu is unsurpassed. Prices are very reasonable. Service was excellent and our server did everything we asked and more. Destination dining!

Yelp
Good looking place with a delicious home brewed Red Ale.. Great service and it was great to get a flight of beer! Steak was good, but the steak salad was dry, the greens needed to be shaken up with some lemon juice or balsamic, it didn't ruin our dinner but should be fixed.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good food. We came a little before it got busy so it was nice and quiet except for the music and kitchen hoods. Loved that. We split a KC strip, garlic green beans, and a side salad. Loved the green beans, perfectly cooked and seasoned. We ordered the steak medium rare but it came a little rarer than we'd hoped. We didn't send it back so they didn't have a chance to fix it (that's on us) but we loved the seasoning and butter that was on it. The side salad tasted like not everything got washed so there's that. We tried the Galaxy IPA and it was good. Also had the grapefruit radler and it was kind of whatever. The staff was really nice. Our waitress was really sweet and attentive. We would definitely come back if we're ever in the area. We would like to try more of the beers and there was a lot of interesting items on the menu

Yelp
Always consistently good! I usually get the pesto chicken and it never disappoints. My husband always chooses a sandwich with the garlic fries, always good as well!

Yelp
We have been traveling to Colorado from St. Louis for almost 20 years to ski. We have been stopping at Gellas/Lb Brewing for most of those years as it is a tradition and we have always loved the place. Stopped by yesterday and had dinner and some brews. Food was fantastic as usual and the beer cold and delicious. My daughter had a mojito and you cannot bear a $6 mojito or margarita! If you are in Hays this is a must visit place for food and drinks! Reese was our waitress and she was great!

Yelp
Late night desperation stop for supper on drive from KC to DEN. Excellent choice. Beer flight was tasty all around. KC Strip was done perfectly w green beans and Cole slaw both memorable. Will be stopping by on the way back through.

Yelp
Fabulous food and service! What a cool find. Will absolutely come back if traveling through this town again!

Yelp
Very nice restaurant in Hays. Older building and the ambiance is very nice. Extensive menu - both food and beer. Staff were really nice and friendly. Ordered a veggie burger and my companion ordered a pasta dish with avocado instead of meat. The staff were happy to oblige and the dish was perfect.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and great service! We enjoyed the apple cider margaritas! Hubs had the jalapeño popper burger and it was delish with thin cut country fries! Would definitely stop again! The brick liked roads of old town was an extra bonus!

Yelp
We tried to go to the place next door but they were closing so they referred us to Gellas. Cute place with a lot of the original building features left in place. They do have some unusual items on the menu but the only one we tried was the dill pickle soup. And yes, it was delicious! I ordered crispy chicken salad- large however it wasn't really that big. Looked like 1.5 chicken strips cut up on top. But the lettuce and tomatoes etc were fresh. Husband got the breuben ( their version of a Reuben). He said it was just okay. He did love his soup (cheese potato sausage). Service was good but not great. If I lived in area I wouldn't hesitate to return.

Yelp
TLDR the food was good, but there was a loud guy who's apparently notorious at some other bars. Ordered the chicken pesto pasta. The pasta itself was pretty good. The chicken was a bit dry, but then again, it was covered in sauce, so not really a big deal. Waiter was pretty nice too. Now for the focus of my review. As the TLDR says, there was a really obnoxious guy walking around, but after he left, the manager came up to us and apologized for him, so that was pretty cool. Anyway, the dude was shirtless and loud, and apparently he's notorious in the area for starting fights at some other bars. Supposedly he's not a regular at this place, but he seemed friendly with some of the waiters, but tbh they were probably just being friendly so he wouldn't stir anything. Acted like a complete toddler: burping, cursing, using chairs as weights, you name it. Sometimes he'd be like "sorry for the noise guys" but then go right back to whatever he was doing. Homeboy, if you're reading this, PLEASE introspect a little.

Yelp
we got the mushroom swiss burger, creamed corn, garlic fries, and tri tip steak sandwich. though it was not that busy the service was a bit slow. i thoroughly enjoyed our food, my burger was a bit burned but i would HIGHLY recommend the garlic fries (they go heavy on garlic so do with that what you will). the creamed corn was good. the tri tip sammy was a bit soggy but good flavor. we wished the steak pieces were a bit smaller to make it easier to eat. WE LOVED THE RANCH AMAZING RANCH HOGHLY RECOMMEND THAT AND THE GARLIC FRIES!!! GENUINELY A BEAUTIFUL PLACE !!! so unexpected for kansas! we would definitely come back again if we were in kansas!

Yelp
Came here while visiting family. I have been coming here every year for the last 10 years or so. They are partnered with LB brewing and they have overall good beers. I've had their grebble before which are like soapapilla. I've had a couple of their salads too. When I've visited, the food has been consistently good but not the most lactose-intolerance friendly

Yelp
In Hays for work this week and this place had great reviews and a coworker recommended it. Ordered the flight first and it came with their pic of beers which ranged from a stout to an IPA. Most were pretty good i like wheat beers but also enjoy an IPA every now and then. Our server was attentive and able to explain the menu to us. We got the fried pickles - batter was a little weird but ranch was good. Food order was the pesto chicken with veggies and i subbed the cream corn and it was good. Nice place inside and got busy after 5. No happy hour per the server but drink prices weren't bad.

Yelp
We came here last year for the first time while traveling down I-70 and spending the night in Hays. The pork chops are so phenominal, we had to come back! This time, my wife tried the salmon and was not disappointed. I had the pork chop again - I'd been thinking about it for so long, I just had to, and I'll happily do it over and over again....

Yelp
Came here late night on a road trip. The service was great. It was rather dead since it was late, but the ambiance was very relaxing, as there weren't too many people in the restaurant. The decor is rather farmhouse, modern chic. We ordered the Reuben, the pickle fries, some Breckenridge, and a beer. The Breckenridge is a staple in our liquor cabinet now thanks to this place. The Ruben and the pickle fries were decent, but not amazing. As for the beer, who doesn't love a good one! I would definitely recommend coming to this place for a quick bite to eat during your road trip as I did.

Yelp

Yelp
After a long cross country drive, Gellas and Lb Brewing hit the spot. Solid menu of everyone's favorite dishes, from sandwiches to entrees, salads to desserts. Oh and they brew their own (really good) beer on premises. We stuck to a standby -- the Great American Burger. It was cooked as requested and all of the extra items we wanted, (bacon, grilled onions) and quite satisfying for a weary traveler. Emily, our server, was great, helpful and getting our food served promptly. There are two parts, the diner and tap room. Same menu on both sides I think. Diner is quieter with all wood panels and that beautiful Old Kansas charm. Easy street parking. Glad we found Gellas.

Yelp
This place is so cool and has great food. We got the chicken fried steak with creamed corn and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were garlicky and perfect. The jalapeño popper burger was a great mix of flavors. The middle was a bit pink for me but overall excellent.

Yelp
This was a really good find for lunch on our road trip as we made our way across Kansas. The restaurant and brewery (which are connected) is a pretty large space. The staff was really on top of everything, and the food was great. I had the Frontier Burger, which features BBQ sauce, onion rings, and bacon. It was really good! My wife opted for the Grilled Pesto Chicken Breast, which was also tasty with vegetables and red potatoes on the side. This is one of the items indicated as gluten-free on the menu, and we appreciated that being identified clearly. My only regret is that I still planned to do a fair bit of driving that afternoon, so I didn't partake in the beers they make on-site and have on tap. Next time for sure!

Yelp
Stopped in for a late lunch driving home to CO from KS. Good sized menu with lots of options. My daughter and I both had paninis. I had the grilled chicken, and she had the grilled cheese. Bread was good, and both had good flavor; however, we also both noticed that neither of ours really had a lot between the bread. The presence of chicken in mine was sporadic, and anywhere close to the edges, it was nonexistent. Same for the grilled cheese. My wife enjoyed her mushroom burger, and my other daughter's chicken fried chicken was huge and tender. Fries were quite good as well. Service was consistent throughout. I'd probably eat here again the next time through but would definitely look for another menu option.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Great food and atmosphere. Highly recommend if you are looking to eat in Hays, Kansas. The bacon wrapped filet was very good and the pesto chicken breast was delicious

Yelp
Decided to have dinner here as in Hays for work. I decided to have the smothered Bierock it was flight as a local fav. I did ask for the cheese sauce on the side. It was full of meat n cabbage normally bierocks I've had were more dough the meat. I enjoyed this and it was very filling. Service was great and I enjoyed the decor. I'm not a beer drinker but was impressed with the different awards for their private brews. Next time in town will stop to try more on the menu

Yelp
A great little find, tucked away in a quaint, old town..full of ambiance. The staff and food was really good. Had the steak salad, but DID NOT APPLY THE RIDICULOUS AOLI DRESSING, thank goodness or else the salad would have been ruined! For some reason, they serve it with what I would consider thick AOLI SPREAD, typical of what you'd smear onto a sandwich or burger; not goop onto a salad though. But the steak and greens were tasty, as was the beer.

Yelp
We stop here every time we travel to or from Colorado. We enjoy the burgers and great service

Yelp
Food is good for the brewery. Beers choices are great. I ordered the flights... my favorite is wheat beers. Service is on point. Friendly and relaxed environment.

Yelp
Yum, yum, yummy!! Thanks to our fellow Yelp community we found this gem while traveling! The burger was outstanding and the garlic fries were amazing! The perfect amount of garlic! The perfect amount of seasoning!! We also really enjoyed the beef stroganoff! Great sauce and nice chunks of meat! The creamed spinach was really good too!! Better than grandma makes! The mashed potatoes were sooo good!! Comfort food at its best!!

Yelp
I went with 4 stars only because I felt it was to salty and over seasoned. But beautiful place. Extensive menu and excellent wait staff.

Yelp
Excellent jalapeño burger & hot wings! Great service & ambiance. So glad we stopped in!

Yelp
We have eaten at Gella's in the past and loved their menu and beer. We stopped there recently while on a trip to Colorado. Unfortunately, we visited the restaurant on a Sunday. The only service on Sunday a.m. is brunch. To their credit they did inform us of this but advertised the brunch to be extensive. What we found was lots of breakfast eggs, potatoes, biscuits and gravy. The only fresh items were some small fruit pieces and grape tomatoes. The one cooked vegetable was overcooked green beans. Although we arrived shortly after the brunch began, the food was lukewarm and pretty blah. It was very far from the normal food and variety of food they serve. I would recommend this restaurant normally, just don't go when your only option is brunch.

Liz G.

Yelp
We stopped by for a late lunch as we were halfway home from our trip to CO. It was a tasty spot. My favorite was their sauces that accompanied the pretzels. The place was clean and everyone was very friendly and efficient. We are not beer drinkers so can not comment on the beer.

Ray B.

Yelp
Malachi was INCREDIBLE! We were driving from Tennessee to Colorado on the way home from a wedding... straight through (17 HOURS) without stopping to rest. It was 8:00pm (1 hour before closing) and we were trying to order our meal from the road so we could just grab it and go. We have a strict gluten-free diet, and as you know, it's often hard to modify normal items on their menu to cater to that need. So, I called the restaurant to start the long process of ordering very detailed meals. Malachi picked up and was incredibly friendly. He said that they have a Gluten-Free Menu now that they just got in and he would be happy to text me a picture of it so I could place our order. He then said I could just text him our order personally and he would be sure to have it all ready and waiting when we arrived. It was... and it was DELICIOUS!!! TOP-NOTCH SERVICE AND FOOD! A+

Yelp
Stumbled on Gellas while pulling off trying to find something to eat. German Cuisine okay cool I'm in! Parking they do offer a lot on the side of the building or street parking. We went around 3-4pm open bar seating. Can already tell this is a local favorite. Mosaic- Sold beer, would recommend. Beirstock- This was just okay, would think because of the cheese and it's ground beef wrapped in sourdough would have more flavor but the flavor lacked. The side of chips tho this was great! Reuben- I recommend this sandwich! Thick juicy so much flavor! It was filling as well!! Also with side of the chips. Customer service- Ehhhhh if you're here to drink and eat you need to sit at the bar top. When I had ordered my beer took some time since the server needs to pick it up from the bartender. She was busy tending to her customers and didn't notice the ticket and you could tell our server didn't want to ask her or interrupt her from her conversation with a reg. You can't miss the sound of a drink ticket tho! Especially if you've been in the industry for some time. It's a habit, to constantly keep an eye out for it. Also in all fairness the regular would understand you have a job todo as well ( could multi task grabbing a ticket and a glass while pouring a drink and talking) Just sad that you just saw there wasn't really any team playing between the bartender and the servers. In the end our server was great and he was attentive. Purchased two shirts as well.
google avatar

Jon B.

Yelp
Salty, salty salty! We shared a beef stroganoff and it was so salty that it hid the flavor. I realize this is a brewery and they want to sell more beer, but that was over the top! The server was very good, Don't make the mistake of thinking this is a German food restaurant. It's brew pub with very little in the way of German food.

Allie W.

Yelp
Stopped through for a quick meal and was very impressed. The food/atmosphere was GREAT! Recommend the unique fried pickles & fries! Fresh!
google avatar

Dolores K.

Yelp
The fries were closer to chips and way way way salty... The presentation was pleasant and portion was generous. The server was prompt and attentive and I really liked the tiny beer option (which was a tasty lemonade beer) Would I go there again, yes...
google avatar

Ginger W.

Yelp
The food is just not as good as it used to be. It comes out of the kitchen more slowly but with worse quality. Some of that is the ingredients' fault - the cuts of meat are lower quality than they used to be. Service is still good, which I appreciate.
google avatar

Brittney J.

Yelp
Wonderful menu selection and atmosphere. I personally love their pork chop, crab cakes, and pesto.
google avatar

Steve K.

Yelp
Passing through Kansas we decided to stop in the cool little town of Hays and have lunch at this outrageous diner/brewpub, and I am so glad that we did. The place has a great pub atmosphere, and they brew a incredible selection of beers, they even make their own root beer, and cream soda! The menu has something for everyone, M D W chose a mushroom burger that was unbelievable, I am definitely a carnivore, but after sampling her lunch I would definitely order one of these for myself. I chose a salmon burger that was also tasting great. G's D and Lb B, has a great selection of sides to go with your meal, and you can substitute any one of them for the homemade chips that come with your lunch for just 95 cents. My love chose the homemade mashed potatoes, and she said they were so good she could have made a meal of just them, I chose creamed spinach (one of my favorites) these were made with two kinds of cheese and bacon (whats not to love) and I sure did, probably the best I've ever eaten. We were told this place really jumps on the weekend, I have no doubt, if I lived close to this place I'd be hittin this place on a very frequent basis.

Troy A.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Food and beer or top notch! Best kept secret in Hays, Kansas. I've been traveling back-and-forth from Missouri to Colorado for years and only recently discovered this gem.

Rebecca G.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and drinks. Pickle fries were delicious and recommend the chips and dip!
google avatar

Lizzy O.

Yelp
Highly recommended by fellow yelpers so we made the stop. Alivia was so sweet and friendly and quickly sat us. We had burgers, salad with raspberry vinaigrette, a salmon burger, house fries, (huge and potatoe-y!) and the chicken fried steak. Reason for four stars - my son found a small piece of red onion in his root beer float, (our boys were debating whether it was this restaurant's "secret" ingredient in the root beer float ice cream, and we were assuring them it wasn't...which left all of us pondering how this could have happened since onions aren't usually by ice cream or root beer...) Also, my husband ordered creamed spinach with chicken fried steak meal and creamed corn came instead. We didn't bother the server with either of these two items because they were closing soon, and we had already had him check to verify an ingredient in the creamed corn due to a food allergy. The food here is great, and the root beer (minus the red onion) is outstanding. It's made in-house along with many of their award winning brews. Friendly service and tasty food.
google avatar

Taggert M.

Yelp
This is for the beer only. The small town of Hays, KS has two excellent breweries. If you're driving through Kansas and need a great craft beer, drive a little off the main drag from I-70 and stop in here for some liquid refreshments. The service at the bar was great. The beer tender offered up suggestions and was friendly to this out of state guest.
google avatar

Shelly M.

Yelp
Our server was attentive and helpful. I ordered the KC strip and thought it would be a prime cut for the price. It was far from wonderful and my husband agreed. It was a bad steak, however, it was cooked the way I asked. The Pub chips were over cooked. The root beer was fun and tasty. My husband liked his beef stroganoff. It's a busy and loud place without much atmosphere. It's in an old building which was cool.
google avatar

Jonathan D.

Yelp
I was told the place was great and after reading the posting the place is popular. I was seated at the corner and no server even bother to offer any drinks. I sat down for about 15 mins. And still no one approached me for any orders. When the server came, he gave me nothing but excuse rather than apology for the delay. Going to this place made me felt I was not belong at the restaurant due to my race and color. Sorry but that's how I felt when everyone around are being served and treated equally except me. I spoke to manager name Stephanie and hopefully she take it seriously what my concerns. I give this restaurant a "No" Star, if I can
google avatar

Joseph H.

Yelp
Food is great, atmosphere is great and the brews are phenomenal. Service could use A LITTLE, it's not horrible, but a little improvement. I would say more on the ToGo and answering the phones. Service while seating in Gella's is on par.
google avatar

Kara H.

Yelp
They are taking great precautions during the covid era, although our server seemed a little stressed. The bierock was excellent, once again. Love that it's a local flavor that I can't get anywhere else. My husband called it a savory donut, and he's not wrong. The star of the show though was the chicken fried chicken- perfectly cooked, the white gravy was so flavorful, and the mashed potatoes were buttery and served with the skin in to give that perfect texture. I may have stolen a few clandestine bites while my husband was in the bathroom- worth it! The fried pickles were heavy on the dill in the breading as well as the creamy sauce it was served with. They were cut as spears and fried, which made for some interesting eating, as the hot pickle sometimes slipped out of the breading. Great beer, but after trying a sampler the lemon ale was the biggest stand out. The barb wild, the grapefruit radler, and the amber ale were all decent as well. Everything we tried was fully drinkable and tasty. Everything was delicious, and I appreciate how hard everyone was working to provide us with a great meal. Highly, highly recommend.

Yelp
To start off with, the service was great. Our server was sharp and professional and handled our large group's order quickly and flawlessly. The ambiance was tasteful and normal for a modern brewery. The food was presented nicely but both my husband and I left feeling a little meh. His Reuben (brewben) had no kick it, although he did enjoy the chips and horseradish sauce (50¢ extra). I got a basic salad with the homemade thousand island dressing, and while I could taste the yeasty notes in the dressing, that was about it. It just had no spice or bite, which is real weird for thousand island imo. The greens were a nice spring mix but I'd probably do the lemon Italian dressing next time. I also got a cup of potato green bean soup and...I just don't know what to do with this one. I just don't think it benefitted from the addition of green beans and dumplings, even though I love both of those things. It was just a weird, bland, lumpy mess that tasted vaguely of bacon. Our friend also got it and she couldn't eat it. It's probably someone's Volga-German grandmother's recipe and she's probably gonna curse me from the grave, but this just wasn't the soup for me. The one thing I did enjoy was the hummus and pita with a little southwest kick. They pre-spread the hummus on the pita, which was bizarre and seemed like a lot of effort, but it was super tasty with the corn salsa. I guess if I could sum things up, I'd say it's nice, safe, unseasoned, rural Kansas food. I love that they included down-home local recipes, but I guess I'm just used to a more diverse fare with flavors and spices that punch you in the face.

Yelp
Service lacking, root beer tasted off, fries cold. Beer and Gish and chips were the winners.

Yelp
Great food, amazing GABF beers on tap, nicest cute bartenders! Nice atmosphere in a cool little Kansas college town, highly recommended!
