Absolutely atrocious experience - from the online portal, through to the customer support experience, culminating with the decision regarding the claim itself.
Purchased a premium travel insurance plan with Generali. My mom ultimately had to cancel a planned trip to Germany due to medical reasons. After starting the claim process online, we were asked to send a patient authorization form to an address in the US via post. This resulted somehow in a second claim being automatically filed as we waited for the physician’s statement so that we could submit the original claim. Adjuster informed my mom by phone that it wasn’t even necessary to send the patient authorization form in the first place, counter to what the online portal instructed us to do. Weirdly, the online portal only ever displayed the one original claim that we filed, and we ended up having to submit all of the documents all over again, this time via email.
It took weeks and multiple phone calls and emails to clarify the situation and get the claim looked at properly, a big reason due to the fact that the Customer Support representative made not one but two errors when noting down my email address. All of this hassle only for the claim to be denied in under 48 hours, despite our policy clearly stating that medical reasons were covered.
A total waste of time, money, and effort. I strongly recommend you look elsewhere for an insurance provider. Personally, I will never go with Generali again.
