Worst open mic ever. If you're a musician, or just looking to play to some people I would recommend any other one in the city.
Me and few friends were really excited to play here last Friday. We arrived on time and were immediately told that because we hadn't dm'd we were on the waiting list and there were 8 people in front of us. It should be noted that their messages via social media never explained that this was the protocol, they just said you could message them.
Fine, we were happy to wait, support other people etc. Whilst we waited it became quickly apparent that the organisation was really bad. People were allowed to play as many songs as they liked, the host did nothing to intervene or establish some common ground rules.
The bar is expensive: it's a hostel near Gracia so it's to be expected. The 'free' drink that your ticket gets you is 'free' just so long as you're happy to spend 9 euros for bravas. That's not an exaggeration.
After around two hours, as the open mic session was coming to a close, I asked the host again if we were likely to play, seeing as now 7 people had had their turn and, presumably, we just needed to wait for one more person. The answer was no, since we had arrived and waited patiently, a bunch of other people had dm'd and turned up later. It seems that being present, asking politely, buying drinks at the bar, and supporting the other open mic goers is not as valid as someone who dms whenever, and also turns up whenever.
Yeah we were pissed and obviously left. It's a shame because the space is pretty good. But honestly, do yourself a favour and find somewhere else which doesn't disrespect people's time, and yeah money in this case too.
