Genießer - & Romantikhotel DAS SCHIFF (Vorarlberg, Austria) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Das Schiff (“The Ship”) owes its name to a family ancestor, an Austro-Hungarian sailor who came back to Hittisau, Austria in 1840 to launch an inn with decidedly nautical airs. It’s been in the Metzler family ever since, a finely preserved and periodically renovated masterpiece in a region known for its traditional woodwork. Besides that, the area is famous, in no particular order, for farmhouse cheese, cross-country skiing, and transfixing views over the Bregenz Forest — all available in spades on this good ship. Rooms are a restful respite from the action, all plush bedding and rich with local wood grain, perfect to empty the mind and fill the soul." - Tablet Hotels

Our Home Away from Home in the Bregenzerwald We’ve been coming to Romantik Hotel Das Schiff for many years – and it always feels like coming home. The warm hospitality of the Metzler family makes each stay truly special. Suite 300 is our favourite: spacious, quiet, with a beautiful bathtub and a separate dressing area. The breakfast buffet is rich and full of delicious local products, and the evening dinners are a real culinary delight – creative, refined, and full of flavour. We especially appreciate the friendly and familiar staff, many of whom have been here for years and welcome us like old friends. For us, Das Schiff is one of the most wonderful hotels we know – and we can’t wait to return.

Absolutely my favorite hotel in the world. Incredibly relaxing - and they feed you so well! Breakfasts were amazing. We would go out hiking all day and come back and pet Leopold the dog before enjoying the blissfully quiet pool and spa facilities (a sauna with a window view!). We loved how there were snacks and fresh fruit left out. I don’t usually “repeat” trips - but can’t wait to go back again. Just bliss.

Romantic Hotel and Restaurant Das Schiff is a jewel of a place to unwind and relax! My partner and I spend three nights in this wonderful hotel, with halfboard 5 course dinner menu. The Metzeler family have owned this hotel since the 1840’s and take every care to ensure all possible detail’s are taken care of and top class! It has been tastefully modernised over the years and has fantastic spa facilities (4 sauna’s, 2 hammams, outdoor heated swimming pool, and relaxing beds). The Gardens are beautiful, and rooms are luxury with super comfortable beds. Mrs Metzler (senior) still commands the kitchen with her grandson, who strive to produce creative menus with local ingredients from no more than 100km distance. There are plenty of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking and mountain sports in the area. We absolutely loved our stay and look forward to returning in future. Highly recommend you visit! Thank you dear Metzler family.

Friends invited us to join them some 150 miles from where we were in Switzerland to this out of the way place in the Austrian Pre-Alps. Sceptical we were, but the much touted intro by our friends caught our attention and so we went for it. There is this typical Austrian looking chalet type Hotel/Spa/Restaurant complex tucked away in a small town off the beaten path. From the first moment one enters the front door, one is overwhelmed with the "welcoming" atmosphere which is in the air, everywhere. Friendly, wonderful ... wow. Our room was out back, facing the landscape of the Hotel with a view of the mountains. The room was very stylish and ultra clean. The Spa section simple in the approach yet sophisticated and frankly very comfortable to my taste. It was perfect R&R place for a two or three day stay. The restaurant, Austrian yes but not touristy Austrian kitschy. Attention to detail everywhere giving you the "at home comfy feeling" - a very well run operation. The menu includes delights for every taste and they even specially prepared a dish with Chanterelle mushrooms (aka - Pfefferlinge or Eierschwaemme in German) just because I asked if they had it. The food was very, very tasty, fantastic. The wine list included a number of rare Austrian wines of a very exquisite variety (sorry, just don't remember those Austrian names not familiar to me) And then there is that breakfast buffet with also table service. A cheese lovers delight - do not miss it!!! All in all a very wonderful experience. As Arnold would say ... I'll be back baby!

We had the pleasure of staying in this wonderful hotel during the Schubertiade. We had a beautiful, spacious room in the new part of the hotel, added in 2012, giving us a panoramic view across the hills of Bregenzerwald from the balcony and from the bed. The setting was lovely and we enjoyed the afternoons spent in the garden by the pool or in the well-kept wellness area.||The food was delicious, light and imaginatively prepared from fresh regional products, with a varying 5-course dinner every evening and a well-selected wine list. During the Schubertiade, it was possible to split the food into a pre- and post-concert menu. Breakfast was also very good and included a large selection of local cheeses, fresh fruits, a variety of egg dishes and fresh carrot juice.||What made this hotel really special; however, was the hospitality. The Metzler family and their staff made us feel welcome from the moment we entered the hotel. All the staff, from the owners to the trainees, were cheerful, friendly and helpful and contributed to a very memorable visit.||We had a great vacation and look forward to returning.

Very nice hotel, with special local wood decor. We stayed three nighs in the very convinient panaroma room, with balcony viwing the mountains. It was pleasure after hiking and waling in the beatiful local surroundings to swim in the heated outdoor pool, surrounded by mountains, and to have an afternoon snacks and drinks. We had half board, and the food was very delicious, with high quality products, at breakfeast they offer the amazing variaty of cheeses. The staff was superb, very helpful and professional. We've taken the festival package to visit the opera Rigolleto at Bregenz festival, and it was a real pleasure - we had a delighful 6 course gourmet dinner including wine, and then we've been provided with a small bag containing the blanket, seat pad and rain ponchoshotel's. The hotel's car took us to Bregenz, we gladly used the seat pad, and had a great time at opera. The car waited for us and took us back to hotel, where we had midnight s cheese nack after the performance. We had a wonderfull stay and looking forward to return!

Booked the Hotel as strongly recommended from a friend . Once arrived, in the middle of nothing, i have been immediately and nicely surprised. Small Romantik Hotel, with two spas big enough, ( one just for adults with no kids allowed ) , big large room with alps view. The Gourmet restaurant is cosy and the quality / presentation of the food is remarkable. Thank you.

Such a lovely hotel with friendly people and mouth watering food! My mother- in-law is lactose and gluten allergic and they managed to still provide great options for breakfast and dinner. Highly recommend this place!
