Reasonable pricing for well prepared food. It was a busy night and the small kitchen was coping well. The Italian bean soup was very well prepared, yet lacked spice - typical of Dutch cooking. On a positive note, there was salt and pepper on table. Served with a freshly bsked bread, pesto and parmesan. The hamburger and fries were well prepared. Service was attentive for suvh a busy evening.

Lovely place and atmosphere, especially in summer. Warm and cute waitresses! Decent food.

Amazing Dutch beer and also the best bitterballen I've ever had!!!

Gent aan de Schinkel is a great place to hang out, have a beer, eat good food (and nibble on Bitterballen), ease into the communal ambience, and watch the world pedal by. Service was erratic (our server often busy snogging her boyfriend…ah, youth!), but that seemed in keeping with the place. Recommend!

Lovely location with plenty of outdoor seating both around the corner cafe itself as well as along the Schinkelkade canal that allows for great boat and people watching. Service is attentive and quick and prices are decent. Perfect for a lazy sunday morning... for lunch or breakfast, which is served until 1pm. And I can imagine for a beer and a snack after a busy afternoon in the city. We both had a Latte, which had the thickest foam I have ever seen. The spoon rested with ease on the foam and had a consistency of whipped cream. The Latte was creamy and had a good caffeine boost to start the day. We had bacon and eggs with some slices of tomato served with toasted sourdough bread and an open-faced muhammara sandwich. Nothing to complain about as the food was presented nicely and was very tasty. Prices were decent too as it was in total 21 euros. If you are less mobile, there are steps to enter the building and access the toilet.

Cleanliness: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Food and drink: 10/10 Price: 10/10 Young, professional and kind staff The selection of beers is large and there is a menu with special beers. The bitterballen are really delicious (we ordered the vegetable one). The atmosphere is really pleasant, warm and cozy. I highly recommend this place. thank you so much, friends.

Love how local businesses have pivoted to well to accommodate the restrictions. Cheerful staff, great location and well packed food for on the go. Location: (4/5) I really think this is a great location in terms of proximity to both Vondel and Rembrandt: easy to pick up coffee or food and head there quickly. Food & Drink: (4/5) The options are plenty. Coffee, Coke, apple pie, beer and plenty more. I have not tried all the food in the current service, but I have had their other food here which is really good. The veg burger as well as the steak were both great. Service: (5/5) Great staff. Very kind and helpful. Also nice enough that they helped with my beginner Dutch questions. :) Summary: (4/5) All in all a great location and great option on this side on Vondel. So drop by and pick something up on your next trip to Vondel or Rembrandt.

Very sweet professional staff. Enjoyed outdoor seating while looking at the bridge and canal. The food was fresh, reasonably priced, and worthy of a repeat visit simply drinks and appetizers or a full meal.

Yelp
Casual "gezellig" outdoor terras situation for sunny days, facing the canal. We've visited here for drinks or weekend lunches. Feels local, kind of like a brown bar / pub situation inside. The staff is friendly and the food actually feels pretty fresh. I had a sea bream (dorade) fillet, a delicious white fish with potatoes and a sauce made of tomatoes and veggies. The picnic benches can accommodate a small group, and feels nice to spend a long summer afternoon here. There are vegan and vegetarian options on the menu, and classic Dutch fare like bitterballen.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, quick service and great food. The place was rocking outside and indoors on a nice Friday evening. We had reservations indoors since you outside is not reserved. Notable is the large menu for a smaller place. They have very good dishes as well as a regular and Vegan hamburger. The toilets are a bit busy since there is only one for each! But this seems to work if you're patient. We had the fish of the day and a bottle of red wine. Very lekker.

Yelp
Good little neighborhood place , outdoor seating , smallish menu but everything is made fresh and is delicious . One specialty dish is a mushroom ravioli with pumpkin purée . I had beef bourguignon and it was also delicious. This one of those hidden gems . There is outdoor seating with blankets for your lap if it's chilly.

Yelp
Zeer gezellige kroeg/restaurant.. Heerlijke soepen en kroketten :-) Een keur aan bier, waarbij vreemd niet altijd lekkerder is. Niet goedkoop, maar wij komen dan ook uit de provincie Een aanrader als je hier in de buurt bent. Geen toeristen.. Heerlijk!

Yelp
Great place in a nice location, used to be a local cafe but when this side of Amsterdam got more popular with the rich, around 10 years ago, this cafe is always full. I'm not the biggest fan of the burgers but the croquettes are delicious. Coffee is good and they serve cake from Holtkamp! The same owner opened another "grand" cafe a bit further on the canal but not the biggest fan of that one. If you want something less big then go here! Just as much fun in winter as in summer by the way!

Yelp
A cozy bar/cafe that sits on the top on Vondel Park. They have good beers on tap and in bottle. I haven't eaten dinner here, although it looks nice. After the 8k and Amsterdam marathon last weekend, the hubs and I went here for some beers and food for lunch. Corn soup, veggie croquets, and a lovely mozzarella sandwich with some of the best pesto I've had...was very nice. The broodjes are served open face and use really top ingredients. The staff are friendly and service is pretty good. They have a nice outdoor patio too, although we sat inside for warmth. A great place that my friends in the neighborhood tend to go to regularly. Cheers!

Yelp
Pros: Outdoor canal-side seating. Good soup. Several waitstaff for the outdoor area means it's easy to find someone to order or ask for the bill. And they are friendly to boot! My friend said the bitterballen were excellent. Cons: Food took a long time coming out, but they were very busy the day we went. Overall I'm happy to recommend this place for a drink or meal.

Yelp
4 stars for lunch, 1 star for dinner. 4 stars for service. PRO'S: The bread here is excellent! I ate a "broodje" for lunch and it was delicious. Servers are friendly and there was actual service here so really happy about that. They also have tables right alongside the canal, which is very nice. CON'S: However, dinner was a major - and expensive - disappointment. I ordered the pasta for some 20EUR and it was worse than the leftovers of the pasta I used to schlep together at 4am after a night out drinking with college buddies. Completely uninspired. If the pasta were an item of clothing I'd have taken it back to the store as defective and asked for a full refund.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere nice service nice dinner! Had a succulent rib-eye and a very good tartetatin (fresh from the oven). I would reccomend this place to anyone who's in for some bourgondic pseudo French-Belgian cuisine!

Yelp
Atmosphere of a simple pub you wouldn't expect such wonderful food but surprise surprise. The food is excellent and so it the service.

Yelp
We were so pleased that we called in.. the staff were very friendly and helpful. We ordered the steak and the ravioli which were delicious and then had the apple pie and Ghent coffee which were equally as good. This is a great place and we are looking to our next visit..

Yelp
Great food atmosphere and beer. The bread is a wonder unto itself.

Yelp
A nice and cozy bar with great staff. The food is exceptionally good! They have a new menu every six weeks. I've often taken clients here and they all loved it. The food is relatively simple and very Dutch but extremely rich in flavor! Trust me, you won't regret it ;-)

Yelp
Nice selection of beer and very friendly (but overworked) staff. Enjoyed my meal and drinks but it's difficult to get any attention when the place is busy. This would be a four star if they hired an extra person to keep up with the demand on busy nights.
