We have just had a 2 night stay with dinner on one night at the George and Dragon. |We found the room very nice, clean and well equipped. |The food was good for dinner. Good menu and good portions. My only criticism was the waiter we had could have known more of the bar listing as could only think of 2 gins and 2 beers on the bar but that is a minor thing. ||Breakfast was tasty.

What a great cozy place to stay for a night or two! Our room was small but quite cozy and clean! The staff is very friendly and helpful but the best part is their restaurant with a delicious menu! You can’t definitely miss their cheese and spinach soufflé, pears salad and the toffee pudding!

First of all, I would like to thank you Gertrudes for recommending this wonderful place. Top noch service and an excellent environment. Stephen at the bar accommodated my request of Expresso Martini which I enjoyed tremendously. I feel the Geroge and Dragon is where you go to have an experience which is exactly what I had and extremely pleasant experience. I am definitely going back again very soon.

Popped in for dinner with my partner and our anxious dog — staff were lovely and found us a quiet, tucked-away table, which was perfect. Starters were excellent: the prawns and cheese soufflé were spot on. Sadly, the mains didn’t keep up. My partner’s cod came with veg that were burnt on the outside but still undercooked, and my steak, ordered medium, arrived almost well done. The chunky chips that came with it looked great but were undercooked in the middle — a bit disappointing. Sticky toffee pudding finished things on a high note, but for the £130 total, the overall quality just wasn’t there. With nearby places like the Punchbowl Inn offering much better cooking for much better prices, this one falls below expectations despite the friendly service.

What a find this was! Stopped off for the night on the long journey south from Scotland. Super welcoming , comfortable and beautifully decorated in the room, the pub and the restaurant . One of the best meals we had in our entire fortnight away. Sublime food and well priced for the quality . We were served by Stephanie who was very efficient, friendly and also a good laugh throughout ! Thanks George and Dragon (and Stephanie ) for ensuring our holiday ended on a high

I went just for the food which was excellent. The fish pie was delicious. It gets very busy so if you are thinking about going book ahead of time. It was dog friendly too. They offered a water bowl and treat.

It was a very quiet Monday lunchtime, service was friendly and efficient and I really appreciated being able to arrange a candle in a pud for my Father's birthday! Soufflé was delicious as always and the ploughman's is extraordinarily good value.

Genuinely terrible restaurant. If you care about food, do not eat here. If you’re expecting Grace Dent’s experience you won’t find it. Expensive and inept. Neither kitchen nor serving staff have any idea what they’re doing. Loads of menu items missing, soggy, fatty “soufflé”, overcooked fish, undercooked sausages, flimsy bread, awful wine, dirty glasses, zero atmosphere and an owner who would do well to reflect on his brand of humour. Genuinely avoid. I never write reviews but there is such a gulf between some of the big name reviews out there (had they hired a different chef for their visits, there’s definitely no scallops or goujeres on the menu!) that I was compelled to do it.
