Popped in for dinner with my partner and our anxious dog — staff were lovely and found us a quiet, tucked-away table, which was perfect.
Starters were excellent: the prawns and cheese soufflé were spot on. Sadly, the mains didn’t keep up. My partner’s cod came with veg that were burnt on the outside but still undercooked, and my steak, ordered medium, arrived almost well done. The chunky chips that came with it looked great but were undercooked in the middle — a bit disappointing.
Sticky toffee pudding finished things on a high note, but for the £130 total, the overall quality just wasn’t there. With nearby places like the Punchbowl Inn offering much better cooking for much better prices, this one falls below expectations despite the friendly service.
