I always want to "eat where the locals go" and this is definitely it! The local secret starts with the parking that is expansive behind the building, in addition to MANY outside picnic tables to choose from.
You walk up to alley admiring a larger-than-life mural painted in 2017 with a distinct deco flourish amidst the modern vibe.
You are welcomed by the restaurants 1940s original to the owner's vision mounted on the outside. Once inside, you are transported directly to the 1930s with red leather & wooden booths, Art Deco pictures & wall color.
You KNOW it's where the locals head...we arrived just at noon,& immediately lined up behind 14 people in working labor shirts bearing company names, logos & graphics.
The line moved quickly. We ordered 2 MRO (mustard, relish & onion) hotdogs, cheeseburger, baked beans, water & ice cold diet cola. (Don't throw shade.). We were warned at ordering the burger was 10 minutes, but we still forged ahead.
Food arrived 10 minutes later- piping hot. Cheeseburger was fresh from the grill- moist with a soft fresh bun. The dogs had a crisp crunch, soft bun, traditional yellow mustard & loaded with onions. The beans were AMAZING- fresh beans, bits of bacon with the perfect amount of flavor- just a bit sweet. Drinks were ice cold & Utz family owned chips were crisp & salty-- the best balance.
Soaked in the ambiance of customers, decor & food before emerging back into the present when the door closed behind us.
