The island isn't big and the visit route is well organized with clear signs. You can learn the history related to the fortress and at Fort Charlotte, there's free tunnel tour showing inside of the fort and some interesting stories. The views of Halifax from the island is stunning and there are multiple picnic tables there where you can enjoy the fort or the views of Halifax skyline. The entrance the fort is free this summer but the only ferry to get to the island is conducted by Ambassadors Grey Line, otherwise you can get to the island by private boat or kayaking.

We really enjoyed our trip to Georges island. The guided tour through the tunnels of the fort was very well done. The interpreter Alec who was out tour guide was very knowledgeable. The ride aboard the harbour ferry was excellent as well. We had a picnic while waiting for the return trip(bring your own food or purchase the day in advance with your ticket). Highly recommended!

Great site. Picnic with young kids and great history. Had a scavenger treasure hunt that the kids absolutely loved

Great little island - through Ambassadors tours booth located directly beside the ferry on the cable wharf. Cost was $30 (with tax) to take the boat over to the island. The island itself is quaint, offering a free tour of the underground tunnels, get closer to the beautiful lighthouse, bring you own picnic or one is available to purchase ahead through the tour company

It is an interesting spot to visit. The ferry is about $25/person and you don't need to book it in advance. Guided tours of the historic fort are complimentary, you can spend about 30-40 min exploring the tunnels etc. There're a few picnic tables all around, so bring some snacks if you feel like it.

This was an amazing experience as someone who was Born in The City of Halifax, and was always looking at the island from afar. To be able to finally step foot on the island was a great feeling. Having said that, this is a once in a lifetime type of experience. Because once you have done it, you really have no reason to step foot on it ever again. It is unfortunately much too small to be of any realtime significance in this day and age, speaking of age, there is a lot of history to learn about the Island and Fort Charlotte. It is very interesting to learn about what was and what is no longer there. Everyone should take the opportunity to visit the Island ONCE. PS, if you can, take up the opportunity to buy into the picnic option with Ambassatours. You won't find a better place for Picnic in the whole city.

A great place for a leisurely stroll during which you can see how the old forts were built. The short walk through the catacombs is incredible. Very interesting and informative!

The tunnel trip was super cool, the people who worked there were so helpful! I gave the whole island 4 stars but this tunnel tour is def 5 stars for me! It was a pretty short tour but it’s super nice too learn some history of halifax! (Sorry the pictures are not super clear, it was a little bit dark inside) so definitely big recommend to everyone who wants to visit! The tour guide was super fun!
