"Located in the Creative Quarter , a hub for shopping and art, George's Street Arcade dates back to the late 19th century, when it was called South City Market. Although it's Ireland's oldest market, it resembles a current-day flea market, with stalls selling everything from wood-fired pizza to New Age jewelry. A respite from traditional boutiques and shopping centers, the covered market packs in vendors and is certainly worth a walkthrough." - Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner

City (and Europe's?) Oldest shopping centre. A quick stop that won't take more than 15 minutes if youre just browsing.

Fun pass through with shops

Small market, however, there is a nice coffee place I would recommend to visit.t

A small gem in the city, it was a bit quiet when I went there in the morning but it pics up throughout the day. Lots of small stores from vinyl to a coffee shop.

Nice small markets located in the city center, fun to walk around for 15/20 mins. Good spot to get some unique souvenirs. The building its self is absolutely beautiful. is a Victorian style red-bricked indoor market of stalls and stores. It opened in 1881 as the South City Markets.

Small but attractive market. Various small stalls.

Yelp
We walked through St. George's Arcade and it's a must-visit landmark in Dublin, Ireland. As the country's first shopping centre and Europe's oldest, constructed in 1881, it holds a special place in architecture and commercialization. It also centralized shopping needs. The Arcade's Victorian charm is immediately evident. as soon as you walk up to it. It has the red brick and terracotta turrets. Inside, the atmosphere is bustling with large shops to internal booths with the natural sunlight shining in from the high vaulted glass roof. The eclectic mix of stalls and shops offers everything from vintage clothing and jewelry to artisanal foods and quirky souvenirs. Grab your souvenirs and creative collectibles here.

Yelp
If for no other reason, walk through and grab a coffee & sweet at the coffee stand on the end and do a little tshirt/souvenir shopping- we went to the falafel restaurant to see what Anthony Bourdain was talking about and it's also a nice connector btwn streets - not all stands are open at the same time so it's also a good idea to stop back at different times

Yelp
I was in full-on geek-girl mode, fully enjoying my brief jump into the scenes of "Once". My husband's only ever experienced the Broadway show with me, despite the fact that we'd planned on watching the movie before our trip. So, even though he knows the story and is familiar with most of the music, he didn't get why I was giddy over things like an old music store, an arch at the entrance of a park, or this crazy-looking indoor/outdoor mall. I tried to explain it to him - to plant the visual of Guy and Girl walking through this arcade, towing a busted-up Hoover along behind them - but my words fell on dead ears. No matter, *I* certainly loved that I was walking the same streets as Guy and Girl, and that I was able to visit something that means something to me, even if it's not a typical tourist attraction. That being said, the arcade wasn't something I'd want to go back to revisit (unless I wanted more "Once"-themed photos), and it wasn't a spot we wanted to spend a whole lot of time in. The aisles were cramped, and most of the stalls and stores were closed when we visited. We did one pass down the first aisle, then made a hard right and went back up the aisle on the other side, but we just didn't see anything that made us want to stop. And even if we did, there just wasn't enough room for us to stop to browse, while allowing for other people to pass by. Still, it was a stop I didn't even think to look up or seek out, and it really did make me a tiny bit giddy, recounting the scene for an uninterested husband. There's something to that, at least.

Yelp
We went there yesterday and enjoyed browsing. It's rather small, but all of the shops & kiosks are very attractive and the items for sale were appealing.

David N.

Yelp
This is a local "mall". It has a bunch of local shops on the inside and on the surrounding area of the building too. There a lot of stuff to see and it's filled with people so great people watching.

Jaclyn C.

Yelp
George Street Arcade, like most of Dublin, doesn't open until mid-morning - I'm talking 10-10:30AM, which to a tourist, seems crazy late, but it's worth it to take a walk on over. So what if it's raining? Not a problem - this arcade is completely covered from the elements for your unique shopping pleasure. As you walk, look above you at how the beams of the structure is; it's very intricate and detailed. From tasty pastries, to vintage clothing, to zen garden treasures, you will have a good time venturing through. The vendors are all friendly and eager for your business. We opted for an amazing strawberry blondie brownie that was KILLER!!! So light and tasty, we were planning on saving it for after dinner, but that didn't happen. We then tried these mini, almost too perfect cupcakes, and they were just as delicious. Come hungry and ready to shop, and leave just simply happy.

Yelp
I found this nice little shopping building while walking around the Grafton Street Area. There were a few vendors selling their handmade goods, vintage books and other kitschy things. Found a unique looking pocket watch here and a great eatery that serves vegetarian food. If I had the room in my luggage and the average temperature in Phoenix wasn't hellacious, I would have stocked up on a few vintage coats from one of the vendors.

Gabriel B.

Yelp
The George's Street Arcade is good fun if your in the city. It does have a lot of variety considering how small it is. There are small food stands, record stores, a hat stall, a pub, jewelry, old coins, and my wife's favorite a book shop specializing in old historical books. They had first editions of some very old books and while those books were pricy the selection was very impressive. As others have already said it is a rather small arcade, you can stroll through it in about 5 min. if you aren't really looking at the shops, and I was envisioning a larger amount of space and stalls.

Emily C.

Yelp
Another flippin great example of grand (grand in the original sense, not the Irish sense!) architecture adapted to fit and work in everyday life. I have to admit that the contents of the centre are actually of very little significance to me - I just love the feeling of the space, the ornate wrought iron ceilings, the thick red brick walls, the church-like windows, I just love the fact that it's stood the test of time, and is still here, busy as ever, 150 years later. The contents of said beautiful building could be debated til the cow's come home. I noticed a review a while back stating that it was like a more expensive version of New York's Chinatown. Now whilst I do see where this person is coming from, from my last count, there were maybe four Asian-inspired shops in here. Selling the usual fare - mobile phone covers, copies of paintings, and one fantastic place selling original Chinese / Japanese kimonos and silk items. BUT there is so much more to this place. Yogism and Urban Picnic - both supremely awesome places to stuff your gob. There's quite a few vintage stores, hat stores, a key cutter, collectibles like stamps, coins, prints, antiquarian books, costume jewelry, body jewelry, a flower shop, bubble tea, and Spindizzy Records (nice little spot to browse). They've also got free WiFi! So gerrup with yer complaining and get down here on a Sunday. It's a great little spot :-)

Yelp
George's Street Arcade dates back to the Victorian times and was Dublin's first shopping centre. Named after its owner, its history remains unknown to most people who shop here. In any case, it is praised and loved by most Dubliners because of its unique ambiance. Where else in the city can you find a coin collector, palm reader, jeweller and chip seller all under one roof? There's so many stalls in this centre that deserve a special mention. I love the shop Head Room that pedals only head ware. Simon's Place Coffee Shop makes great hearty sandwiches. And then there's New Moon that sells beautiful precious stones and Barry Doyle Designs Jewellers that customizes rings. There are so many good reasons to shop in this arcade.

Sharon S.

Yelp
A small arcade in the city but one DEFINITELY worth a stroll through, a blend of shops and kiosks, this place has oodles of charm about it. Some great food / places to drink here too... My fave at the moment is Yogism :-) If your after unusual, alternative clothing or accessories it's always worth a look about this arcade

Melanie M.

Yelp
Time to reminisce of the good old days when the Arcade was actually more like a market and rumble sale! I remember buying an Original 1970's Afghan Coat for 5 old pounds! and I got my belly button pierced here for 4 pounds with a gun!!! But oh how the times have changed and everything has cleaned up! But most of the stalls are still the same and the record shops, the fact that they are still called RECORD shops shows that! But the stores themselves are all trendy eateries and clothes shops now, some for the better and some for the worst. But over all this arcade remains a great shopping haunt of Dubs looking for the rare auld times!

Aoife O.

Yelp
George's Street Arcade offers a bit of 'character' with your shopping. From sesame seeds to Palestinian scarves to Betty Boop memorabilia, it's fairly eclectic. If you are into things hippie, kitsch or retro, you'll probably enjoy having a wander around here. There are some fun and fabulous antique and retro clothing shops but this is not 'Oxfam' second-hand so don't expect Oxfam prices! As the name suggests, it's less of a shopping centre and more of an arcade/market and it has the atmosphere to match which means wandering around can be an experience in itself. If you're shopping in Dublin and looking for something unique and random (possibly with a former owner) then head to George's Street Arcade.

Kate M.

Yelp
George's St Arcade is really cool and funky, and is more a mixture of a market/arcade than a shopping centre. There are clothes shops, hairdressers and restaurants, but there are also random stalls that sell Turkish delight, old coins and hello kitty merchandise. It's really a little treasure trove of things. You'll always find something really random that you never thought you'd want to buy - anything from neon coloured tights to some arty picture!

Rónán C.

Yelp
"Georges Street Arcade is great for picking up random, mad or unique stuff that you won't find on Grafton. This collection of madness, diversity and creativity is what the cities "main shopping district" should really look like. Great fun, and this coming from a man who hates shops." and then I realised that I've never actually seen anything here that I wanted to buy, in fact, I don't even look at half the stalls. Just like to walk through the place is all.

Mary C.

Yelp
I was searching high and low for something like this in Dublin; it seems a shame that such an old city only has a handful of market-type places. Luckily for me, Georges Street Arcade is a pretty good one. It's not full on, but nearly so. You can buy lots of used and new clothes, records, sunglasses, hats, homewares, accessories, and general crap. It's great to wander around for a bit if you're in the area, if only to get a hint of what shopping is like in South America or Asia. Now, if only they sold produce, meats and fish it would be a truly marvelous market.

Cathal C.

Yelp
If you're the type of pretentious nob that claims that vinyl sounds better than CDs, you'll probably really like George's Street Arcade. Located in the beautiful old South City Market's, George's Street Arcade is full of the businesses so beloved of Dublin's hipsters. Expect shops selling things that are 'kitsch'; 'retro'; 'vintage'; 'kooky'; 'random'. I mock these adjectives, though I must confess that I enjoy browsing in the arcade's second-hand bookshop (retro, vintage and also possibly random, if we want to categorise). Very pleasant to stroll through, but apart from second-hand books that are much more expensive than those for sale in Aungier/George's Streets innumerable charity shops, there isn't a whole lot in George's Street Arcade that I would actually want to buy. Nice to look at, shame about the shopping. And just for the record (pun), even though you may claim to prefer the sound of vinyl, they are most certainly not "better" than CDs, as digital formats are far superior to analog ones from a purely technical viewpoint. So there.

Kayleigh C.

Yelp
I love this place...I have so many nice memories from here that perhaps my review is slightly biased...but I'll continue writing anyway! The atmosphere here alone is enough to entice you back again and again, it's always busy with a nice mix of tourists and locals. There's a couple of nice food places to eat, but nothing beats a cinnamon bun in Simon's (the smell alone is enough to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside) and it's even better if you get a seat by the window where you can watch the steady flow of people move through the market! There's a good mix of stalls here where you can pick up vinyl, artwork, antiques and vintage clothes. New Moon is one of the best jewellery shops in Dublin and is definitely worth a visit. Soak up the atmosphere here, on the right day it's magical!

Diane M.

Yelp
Very fun place to walk through. Some really great finds. Most only take cash. Was able to buy some silver Irish brackets and rings, and my husband brought himself a Irish cap. We got there late but the fudge man had some good fudge and the nuts lady had great bargains from bbq nuts to fried fruit. Reasonable pricing. Go check it out and bring cask to help the locals

Cristin L.

Yelp
I love this building. It's magnificent. I like to walk through the market, browsing. I never seem to buy anything though. I'm sure the stalls and shops here would be delighted to hear that. But I'll continue to walk past and admire the architecture. Lovely.

Catarina L.

Yelp
A stunning and well preserved late XIX century market building, that, interestingly, is still being used like one. Inside you'll find stalls selling second-hand and vintage clothes, real and imitation jewelry, asian booths selling watches and umbrellas, books, vinyl records as well as a florist and a frozen yogurt shop! A really nice mix. Browse for a bargain, your new Halloween/Carnival costume, a cheap accessory or an original gift for someone. The corridors are a bit narrow, so be prepared to have to negotiate your way while you shop or simply wander around. Don't be afraid to pick up the books and such, you can look at their pages all you like without someone hovering accusingly over you.

Karl S.

Yelp
Great spot for finding the random small hidden places. Yogism - one of my favourite places to chill out, listen to good music and hang with friends whilst playing a game of twister. Urban Picnic - has the best and hardest working chef in Dublin (Vinny), great wooden tables. Brilliant spot for friends and the food is unreal. Lolly & Cooks have great coffee but are more known for their cupcakes which are out of this world. Its a prime spot for budding entrepreneurs and comsumers. you will find "all kinds of everything" (sung) here

Dave H.

Yelp
I'm of two minds about George's Arcade. On one hand, having such an eclectic mix of shops is a lot of fun. And on the other, having too much of an eclectic mix of shops makes a place like this completely pointless. Dublin already has great vintage clothes, vinyl, ethnic food stores dotted all over it, and enough cafes to keep the world jittery. Squeezing a dozen of these into one place doesn't make much of a difference compared with the streets surrounding it. I think the small number of stores really harms the place. There's no real competition, either in price or choice, to keep the place fresh. This isn't a completely negative review, there are nice things to be found in the Arcade. I just think you'd find plenty of other places in Dublin offering the same thing.

Hazel O.

Yelp
Currently home to my new favourite obssession Yogism, the shops come and go, but the random, quirky atmosphere remains here. I love the beautiful old building and the random bits and pieces you see here, APART FROM THE GUY WHO SELLS FRAMED INSECTS AND SPIDERS!!! What the hell is that about?? I scoot past him pretty quick. All the old Betty Boop stuff, the place that sells fluoro wigs and emo hair dyes (the stuff that run in the rain!), the Emily Strange tshirts and I am DYING for someone to buy me one of those Chinese waving cats.

Iveta L.

Yelp
I love this place, it's amazing. There's a lot of small shops. There's a record store with records and cds, i always end up buying something there, mostly full of rock music, some are second hand too. There are shops with band shirts, anime and manga collectibles, old fashioned dresses, flowers, piercing jewelry, old books, frozen yogurt, costumes, creepers, flannels, some cool clothes and a lot more. Long story short there's a lot of things I love there, even if you don't buy anything it's nice to the admire the vintage feel of the market. The corridors are narrow but it's not a problem, you can get through fine. It is quite busy though, it's always hard to get into one of the shops.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Funky place!! Wish there was more variety with shops, but I enjoyed walking through. Purchased some artwork from a local photographer who was a really nice gentleman. The photographs are up on my wall now!

Jon S.

Yelp
Local vendors of all type fill the inside of this shopping center. There are food stalls, a juicery, gift shops, vintage clothing booths, a bookshop, a fudgemaker, and much, much more. Well worth wandering into and exploring. We ended up eating lunch there and returned the next day to buy a cool print by a local artist.

Yelp
The perfect place to kill an hour. The only place I can think of that manages to cram false eyelashes complete with orange feathers and antique coins under one roof. Everytime I come here I see something new and different and there are lots of tasty nibbles to be had here too. It's the most bizarre mix of price ranges and products, expensive boutiques are next to cheap and cheerful piercing establishments.

Qype User (nowrou…)

Yelp
This is a little gem of a place , everything that you think thought Dublin would be like is in here - lots of brick a brack shops to really high end fashion places that you would normally see on Bond st, there is a great little buzz about the place and the staff in all the shops generally know alot about the surrounding area. The best shops to go into on the arcade is New Moon jewellery Shop and Lowkey.

Qype User (roship…)

Yelp
A cracking little parade of shops - especially if you're into alternative gear. Offbeat indie boutiques rub shoulders with collections of vinyl records, foreign books, quirky fridge magnets and...well just about everything you can think off, really! There's some bargains to be caught, as well as more high end shops mingled amongst (and even if you're broke it makes some top window shopping). You can grab some decent food on a budget while you're at it. Though most shoppers come to Dublin for Grafton Street, personally I always take visitors here - to me, its these one-off arcades with unique shops that make cities what they are, rather than identical high streets packed with chain stores.

andy m.

Yelp
Hi Cathal C., vinyl does sound better than cd, cd's are heavily compressed, unless your talking about super audio cd's (SACD) which can play back uncompressed data at 4 times the rate of cd's and technically are better, but not aesthetically (the cover's on lots of records are art in themselves), also vinyl has a warmer sound, its the same thing as calling people who prefer real books to kindles or sony readers pretentious; nonsense, anyway apart from the odd bargain in the two vinyl shops there, the place is far too expensive, I buy most of my vinyl off ebay for less than half the price (including postage) than it is in this place. The rest of the stalls are similarly overpriced.

Emma H.

Yelp
Back in the days - well maybe only two years ago - I used to wonder around here with my friends and gush over all the cute overly priced fake Hello Kitty accessories, wish we could buy that lovely expensive jewellery and wear those polka dot rockabilly dresses. Fast forward to this present day and not much has changed - they're still selling over-priced apparantly fake sanrio goodies, the jewellery is still to die for yet expensive and the rockabilly dresses are gathering dust. If you haven't guessed yet, the main problem with George's Street Arcade is the PRICE. It's nice to have a walk around and get some good photos if you're into that sort of thing but If they brought the price down just a little bit, I think we would all be very happy.

SIG S.

Yelp
I looked everywhere on North side of the Liffey for low cost, good variety of Incense sticks and essential oils but couldn't find any until I visited George's St. Archade. This is the best place in Dublin for Incense sticks.

Rowan M.

Yelp
Magnificent building. I enjoy walking through it every day on my way to University. Starting from vintage clothes , cafes, food, books to tarot reading. Dont miss this spot while you're in Dublin.

Gary W.

Yelp
Being a pretentious nob who claims that vinyl sounds better than CD's, I am a very large fan of this fine shopping arcade. Firstly I would just like to clarify something. The shops are expensive, tacky, grubby and odd but dammit anyway that's what makes this monument to a simpler time so wonderful! A time when men were men and samurai swords could be legally bought in one of their les normal shops! A time when you bought fudge from a shop where you knew(!) that the tiny spit guard bore no resemblance to the sort of protection needed against the hands that pawed them day in and day out as the shoppers and the browsers meandered by! This is a place that you can buy coffee for €10, €12, €14 and yet you don't complain when you realise at home that the beans weren't ground finely enough because you know that NOONE else has fine guatamalan coffee as freshly ground as Your fine (but not finely grounded enough for your wretched coffee machine. Grrr) guatamalan coffee! This place has everything that your little hearts could desire! There is a second hand book shop; a second hand coin shop, a jewellery shop(not sure if second hand), clothes, cd's, vinyl, paintings, ties with Daffy Duck on them (for those important business meetings) and to top it off, why not get your fortune told by a person who i have yet even to see emerge from her....tent....stall...not sure what its called. Anyway its there and you should be too!

Rebecca T.

Yelp
Early on a Saturday morning leave the rain outside an cosy up in the Urban picnic cafe in the George's Street Arcade. When suitably fed and rested idle around the quirky stalls and shops ranging from stunning fashion pieces to delicious nibbles and coffees. Not sure which of the beautifully tailored 1940's dresses to buy from Retro or which coffee bean (M & D Tea and Coffee) would go best with your cupcakes from Lolly & Cooks-then ask the talented (you'll have to take my word for it) Tarot Reader what way she thinks you should go.

Wesley W.

Yelp
I love this place. They have a good selection of alternative clothing and a cadre of other interesting vendors here. It's a must if you are out and about shopping in Dublin.

Karina C.

Yelp
The George's Street Arcade can be a bit on the hippy dippy side but I'm so fond of it! There are lots of vintage shops that tend to be a little on the expensive side, but there's no harm in browsing for a bargain. If you root for long enough you'll usually find one. There's also a great book store and lots of jewellery stands with stuff like funky rings and necklaces and good silver items. On top of that there are a few cafes in the arcade too so it's a great place to go if you just want to hang out for a while with a latte. The only thing is that it's a bit hard to keep up with what's open and closed in there - every time I go in there's either a new store or one that's shut up shop. Love it though!

Qype User (kingof…)

Yelp
I love the George's Street Arcade. Here you've got everything Dublin that is not High Street. Bric-a-brac, 2nd-hand-clothing and small designer shops, a great hairdresser (Ozlo), bookshops, Japanese Manga-merchandise, great food for nippling on the go, and last but not least a cafe full of Brazilian waitresses that was featured in "Once". The only drawback is it's actual size - I'd love to spend more time here, but it will not entertain you longer than an hour or two.

Qype User (mciner…)

Yelp
A really lovely and rather underused nook in a generally ugly quarter of generally ugly Dublin. Everything here is overpriced, but that's ok, because its not the kind of stuff anyone over the age of fourteen will want to buy anyway, but it's undeniably pleasant to walk through and browse. THere are some really great fashion outlets here, and dont forget to stop in to the market bar, hidden behind, for some wine and tapas at a great price.

Qype User (BeckBe…)

Yelp
Georges Street Arcade is one of the best little shopping places in dublin, despite its small apperance, it has got a whole lot of great shops in here. There is a complete variety of things from jewllery shops and health food shops to a hairdressers and a body piercing shop! The piercing shop is my favorite, it is so cheap to get anything pierced! To get your ears pierced is €9! And they do a brilliant job, she staff is lovely too. The little boutiques are amazing too, like retro, my favorite! And if all the shopping is making you hungry there is the best chipper located in here too! What dont they have?! :)

Qype User (mykind…)

Yelp
I love this place, it is not very well known and tends to be quiet. The shops are small and contain all sorts of treasures, from second hand CDs to jewellery to handmade bags. If you prefer something a little different, then this is the place for you. Prices vary, though in general the CD's and books are good value; clothes are more expensive.

Qype User (Jacque…)

Yelp
located on georges street this market is quirky and fun. its the perfect place to buy those unique and different things. There are alot of different shops in the arcade there are vintage clothes shops and places to buy fancy coffee beans and also hat shops and stalls selling wacky and cute things. the prices from shop to shop anr extreamly different and some shops can be very dear, but overall i think this place is worth a look, its my favourite place to shop for unique gifts!

Qype User (ciara3…)

Yelp
George's Arcade is a nice little Arcade. It has many stalls that are quirky but sometimes overpriced. They have nice shops also that you would not find anywhere else and nice food stall which are my favourite. A nice way to spend your lunchhour or a quiet Sunday afternoon.

Qype User (Bubble…)

Yelp
From George's street Arcade to the back of Grafton Street you'll find the independent shopping area of Dublin. The best bite to eat in town is in a tiny place inside the Arcade (can't remember the name) and afterwards something sweet from the cupcake stand and something cute the nicest looking flower shop I've seen. It's very Dublin but yet would fit in to any trendy area in a European Capital! Check it out

Sara Elisabeth R.

Yelp
I really love this place. It's situated in the city centre and is filled with handmade products, art and quiet and healthy cafes.

Qype User (bridge…)

Yelp
so many shops in such a great space. trade gossip, cups of coffee, get some olives or shoes or a haircut, you could get most of what you need form this classic and beautiful arcade.

Qype User (rinzi…)

Yelp
I love it too.
