"Just 45 minutes west of Denver, a trip on the historic Georgetown Loop Railroad feels like traveling 150 years back in time. This railroad route was originally built to connect the mining towns of Georgetown and Silver Plume (which are just a few miles apart) through a steep, narrow, and scenic canyon. Corkscrewing up more than 600 feet in elevation and traveling across four separate bridges, it’s an 1880s marvel of engineering that survives today for guests to enjoy. In the fall, this railway offers seasonal promotions like "Autumnfest," which includes free beer samples from local breweries." - Travel + Leisure Editors

We recently had the pleasure of visiting the Georgetown Loop Railroad in Georgetown, Colorado, during their Fall Festival, and it was an unforgettable experience for our entire family! This charming and scenic train ride is the perfect way to enjoy Colorado’s stunning autumn colors, and we couldn’t have chosen a better time to go. The aspens were at their peak, with golden leaves shimmering in the sunlight, making for some truly spectacular views. The kids had an absolute blast! The Fall Festival had something for everyone, especially the little ones. They were thrilled to receive treats and candy at different points throughout the day, which definitely kept them smiling. They were also excited to pick out their very own free pumpkins, which added a festive touch and made for some wonderful family photos. The ride itself is about 1.5 hours round trip, which we found to be just the right amount of time. It gave us plenty of opportunities to soak in the beautiful scenery without feeling too long for the kids. The train cars are open-air, which adds to the experience and lets you fully enjoy the crisp mountain air. However, I would definitely recommend dressing warmly, as it can get quite chilly, especially during fall. We layered up, and it made a big difference in our comfort. Overall, I can’t say enough good things about our experience at the Georgetown Loop Railroad Fall Festival. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the activities were engaging, and the scenery was breathtaking. If you’re looking for a family-friendly fall outing in Colorado, this is a must-do! We’re already looking forward to coming back next year.

Oct 2024 - Amazing time riding the Georgetown Loop Train, we caught the train at the Silver Plume depot This wknd Oct 5th-6th was their pumpkin 🎃fest, each child was given a trick-or-treat bag w/ a few goodies inside, nice touch ! Adult tickets are $38 & kids ages (1 to 16) are $32. They have a gift shop as well. Weather was perfect, scenery was sublime and the ride was fun !

I love this place. This attraction has a real silver mine, steam engine train ride, and gold panning. The silver mine was cold inside (44F), so make sure you dress appropriately. The tour guide was very patient and very kind and funny to answer all sorts of strange questions (haunted mine? Probably yes!). The train ride brought you from parking lot level to 80? feet high railroad. The conductors and other staff are all funny. The gold panning is an exciting experience. This is the first time for us to try panning gold from sand. We had no ideas how to do it and the staff were almost hand holding to help us get all the gold out and save it in a little vial. It is certainly a family-friendly attraction near Denver.

Such a wonderful train ride! Highly recommend coming up for lunch in Georgetown and then taking a ride. Be sure to get your reservations on their website before you come up to be sure you can get a seat, especially, during fall colors season.

We had an amazing time riding the Georgetown Loop Train, we caught the train at the Silver Plume depot which is one exit from the Devil's Gate depot. This wknd Oct 5th-6th was their pumpkin 🎃fest, each child was given a trick-or-treat bag w/ a few goodies inside. Once the ride was finished then each child was given a mini pumpkin 🎃. We had the perfect weather for this ride & the fall 🍂🍁 colors we spectacular to see. Adult tickets are $38 & kids ages (1 to 16) are $32. They have a gift shop as well. Once you're done head down to Idaho Springs to Beau Jo's Pizza 🍕, it the best pizza in Colorado

Super awesome. Tim told the best joke . The mine tour was so much fun .Our tour guide was great. He had mentioned he'd been only doing it a few months. Would have never had known that if he'd hadn't said anything. He was great.

Super cute! My toddler loved it. It kept his attention for about 75% of the ride (~45 mins) then he was over it. We did the fall leaf train ride. They had the place decorated for pumpkin fest/halloween and it looked great. They do a 15 minute stop in the middle so you can check out the gift shop at Silver Plume. The kid’s ticket cost is a little steep and basically the same price as the adult ticket. A fun novelty activity to do once or twice a year. I hear they have a Christmas lights ride in the winter which I’d do. Definitely bundle up and bring a hat/jacket/blanket. You can bring food/drinks just no alcohol.
