17 Best Bars in Vancouver, From Tiki Bars to Supper Clubs | Condé Nast Traveler

"I see Gerard Lounge as an old-world, English-club–style cocktail nook hidden inside the Sutton Place Hotel—all leather and wood with sunken black couches and a fireplace that’s unbeatable in winter. The bartenders craft meticulous cocktails like the smoky, bright Smokin’ Peaches (Lagavulin 8, Johnnie Walker Black, peach, bergamot bitters) and the citrusy Samsonite (mezcal, Aperol, cucumber, orange bitters, honey, lemon), but the best approach is often to tell the bartenders your flavor preferences and let them create something off the cuff." - Sara Harowitz

We visited van for our honeymoon and stayed at the Sutton hotel, we were recommended a spot at the Gerard lounge and we ended up going 3x, amazing food, the atmosphere of a stylish cocktail bar was fun and our server Brittany was a delight, amazing service and recommended some hot spots around the city so thank-you Brittany and thank-you to everyone there

What an AWESOME experience! I randomly discovered this place while walking past it and decided to go inside for a drink. The bartenders were very knowledgeable and the cocktail they came up based on my preferences was AMAZING. Plus everyone was super polite and friendly. I recommend this place and I’m definitely going to visit again soon.

Trash experience. Bartender was about useful as lips on a bird. Zero personality and minimal effort.

Had a hard time capturing the attention of our server, the blonde waitress (featured in photos from other reviews) to order anything. She was adversarial and confrontational when we pointed out that she never made clear that our last drink we ordered was last call. Even for Vancouver this is poor service. Never argue with customers. We won’t be back, sorry.

Yelp
Vibe was amazing!!!! Jorge the manager was really lovely and went over the top to make sure and check in that we had a great experience. Will definitely be back. Very NYC feel in the lounge and the mahogany wood was very cozy. Sablefish was super delicate, yummy, and melted in your mouth

Yelp
The service here really was above and beyond. Initially, we were seated in the bar since we hadnt realized that reservations dont apply to the Lounge, but one of the managers, Jorge, was incredibly attentive to our preference to be seated in the Lounge and checked in with us several times to ensure that we knew they were doing their best to seat us in the Lounge. This gesture was greatly appreciated. When a table was arranged for us, we were lucky enough to be seated near the "fireplace". Our party was a huge fan of the library feel of the place, and the "fireplace" definitely added to the cozy vibes. Aside from the impeccable service, the food was stellar. We ordered the sablefish to share, which I can honestly say is one of the tastiest in all of Vancouver - Ive had my fair share of YVR sablefish dishes! It was melted in our mouths like butter. I also ordered the fois gras, which was delightful but my personal preference is to have it be a bit warmer, and less of a cold cut feel. Nonetheless, the presentation was beautiful. The kale salad was beautifully plated and incredibly delicious. And the chocolate mousse dessert with gold leaves was an amazing palate cleanser hehe, to round out the evening. Our party is a big fan of gold-anything haha so we seized the moment and had a three musketeers moment with our forks. Highly recommend Gerard Lounge. I definitely know where I will be returning for some high quality, butter-like sablefisg.

Yelp
Service was off to as low start but our new server was awesome. Friendly, helpful, timely. Drinks were perfect and desserts divine. Love the old school lounge/library vibe. Every hotel needs a lounge like this!

Yelp
I am a regular here, just like I am a regular to the adjoining side, Fleuri. The decor is old school English with dark wood, and is dimly lit. I come here mainly for after work drink with friends, and sometimes dinner. For my AA buddies, we go elsewhere. They offer a bar (food) menu as well as the Fleuri Restaurant menu. I'm waiting to try the Scotch flights that they offer on Thursdays. It often gets busy on weekend nights.

Yelp
Pros: Great old school bar with oak walls and a cool lounge vibe. The bartender is charming and knows his drinks. Cons: Can attract a cheesy crowd at times and the bar randomly decides when it closes.

Yelp
I have to admit that we were hoping to take my dad to Bacchus Lounge (my sis and I's favourite haunt) but as we approached we noticed it was clearly closed for a function. I think we seriously let out expressions of horrified disappointment. I mean we love this place. It is truly the classiest place in town to go old school, have a martini by the fireplace and listen to the piano player. Serene. So once we collected ourselves we racked our brains for alternatives and couldn't come up with any. As they headed to the bus stop I remembered Gerard to be a similar spot...old leather couches, lots o wood. So we ventured in. First thing I noticed were the numerous tv screens. I stated in my Bacchus review that the only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars was the ubiquitous presence of tv screens. Look, I don't mind turning them on for the game or special event. But to just have the news in the background is useless and destroys the vibe. ANYHOO...so me no likey tvs, but my dad (ok and me) got to watch the hockey game so there you go. We ordered some bevvies and opted for the hummus to share. First of all, can i just say I asked for 3 olives in my martini (ya that's right) and while i got my 3 olives, one of them was clearly bad. I mean the sides were kinda mushy and it was clearly a different colour. NO. LIKEY. The service was fine and the hummus passable but there was no atmosphere to Gerard like there is in Bacchus. There was a disconnect. I was not diggin it. I was sitting there, sipping my drink, looking forward to leaving. Whereas in Bacchus...i dream of the day I can have more than 1 drink then roll on upstairs to a luxury room. I just wanna live there!!! The adjoining restaurant (and pathway to the bathroom) is seriously one of the most depressing rooms i've walked through. Three tables of diners all seated very far from each other in the most sparse, sterile room. Yucca. So unless you are staying at the hotel and don't want to venture out...don't bother. It ain't all that.

Yelp
I will make this short since my original entry was lost! Bottom line is service is what made this evening lovely tonight. Our server was David and Steve was attending the bar. We had dinner in there tonight. We started with the french onion soup which was fine. The Sun-Dried Tomato Bocconcini Salad had a gorgeous presentation and was pretty good. My friend had the butter chicken based on recommendation of our server. I tasted it. Delicious! I had the tenderloin. It was cooked perfectly. The potatoes that came with it they didn't taste fresh and were not nice and warm. Veggies were ok. David and Steve went to great lengths to ensure we were happy with our wine choices. For a Tuesday night there was a lot of activity. Fun place.

Yelp
My husband and I were staying at the hotel yesterday and came in late and decided to get a drink so we went to Gerard's, it's a nice, older, upscale type of lounge. The woman server wasn't friendly but she was quick and efficient. We were surprised when we noticed that my husband martini seemed to only have 1/2 of a drink but he didn't want to mention it since he didn't care to stay too long there. My glass of cab was nicely served and I enjoyed it. This was our first and only time at this lounge so perhaps we went on an off night but it's not somewhere we want to try again.

Yelp
Gerrard's is not for everyone but here is why I'm a fan. I dig the strong Lemondrops and masculine, dark wood interior. I'm going to go out on a limb and describe it as "The most interesting man in the world" kind of sexy and I'm not even into guys that old. You can bring a book and sit alone here without being disturbed.

Yelp
For ambience and style, this place is in the top category with only a few other places in Vancouver. They have a whole page of their menu dedicated to mocktails, which I appreciate immensely and they're good ones. I was excited to go here after the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra performance and the atmosphere and clientele did not disappoint (two of the amazing soloists arrived soon after us). I'm giving only three stars because the service was incredibly slow, then nearly non-existent. They weren't busy so that wasn't the reason. I was surprised that a place of that caliber didn't have a guest service manager looking after things and conducting quality control, especially on a Saturday night. I do look forward to going there again and hoping for better.

Yelp
A great cozy bar right of Robson. Perfect for an cozy intimate conversation after a long day. The bar staff is fabulous, though it can get extremely busy on the weekends.
