On the Grid : Geronimo's FGT

"Two words: Live gigs. This is the classic venue Stampen's cocky Mexican cousin Geronimo's FGT who live in the basement (FGT stands for "Fucking Good Times"). They regularly put on live music gigs of rock n'roll and they serve Mexican dishes, margaritas and snacks. A venue that is keeping the Stockholm gig scene alive after the classic Debaser Slussen was abruptly shut down for no reason. Check their website for upcoming gigs! We also recommend to go upstairs to Stampen where bands play live almost every night of the week." - Snask

I was disappointed by the service and music. The staff had an attitude and the music was bad, even the transitions from song to song were not making sense. Prices are also on the expensive side, 89kr for a cider.

The ambiance was warm and inviting, perfect for a casual night out or a special celebration. The menu featured a fantastic variety of Mexican dishes, and everything we tried was bursting with flavor. Do try their Margherita. They also have vegan options for all their dishes, and the staff was really helpful in creating a delicious non-alcoholic drink for me.

The entrance to Geronimo's can be a little deceiving as you enter an upstairs bar area, but keep walking through to the stairs at the back and it opens up into a cavernous restaurant and bar, that looks like it also hosts music nights. We had not booked but took a chance and the staff were super accommodating. We had a drink upstairs whilst they waited for a table to finish and boy, am I glad we waited. We obviously ordered way too much, but then again, it was impossible to choose. We had tacos, burritos and quesadillas, plus corn and dirty fries. The tastes were outstanding and it was a fabulous, lively atmosphere. Highly recommended if you are in Stockholm.

Geronimo's offers a fantastic dining experience in its basement atmosphere. The staff is impressively kind and attentive. The food is not only delicious but also served in generous portions. What's especially great is the extensive selection of vegan options, catering to diverse preferences. To top it off, their margaritas are truly exceptional, making it a must-visit for both flavor and hospitality enthusiasts.

Google
Amazing California atmosphere with great food. The margaritas are also top notch. They also have a live band which is a rare sight nowadays in Stockholm.

Pretty cool atmosphere with reasonably priced food and drinks. The food was good and worth trying. It was unfortunate we couldn’t get a table in the basement.

I had the pleasure of dining at this wonderful Mexican food restaurant in Stockholm and was thoroughly impressed. In fact, it's the best Mexican food I've had since moving to Europe. I highly recommend giving it a try!

Yelp
Cool place with good food and great drinks! Best spicy margarita I've ever had! I had the grilled shrimp fajita bowl which was very good. The shrimp were huge and grilled perfectly. There were other menu items that also sounded good so I will be back to try more! It's also a great stop before catching a show at Stampen next door!

Yelp
This is a total find! So excited for a legit Mexican food restaurant with a really cool vibe. Came here late on a rainy Friday, they have a small upstairs but then you go downstairs and it's this whole underground cave vibe. We didn't have reservations but waited about 30 mins at the bar and were seated. The spicy margaritas were delicious! But careful as they are quite spicy. The food came in huge portions and was delicious, the queso to start was my favorite. My partner had the enchiladas and I ordered the chimichanga, the chimichanga was HUGE and filled with delicious chicken, the enchiladas were super flavorful and everything came with rice and beans. The service was super friendly and it wasn't too busy on the Friday so it turned out to be a really chill night.

Yelp
My husband and I were staying nearby and popped in for a drink before heading back to our air b&b for the night. Since we live in Texas we decided to get a house margarita at Geronimo's since we wanted a taste of home while aboard. We ordered our drink and sat inside. There is outside seating but it was full at the particular time we got our drink. The margaritas were about average price you would pay in gamla Stan area. The drink was your typical house margarita you can find in the US, so I can assume it was a premix. I can't comment on the food but the portions looked quite large and smelled good.

Yelp
Geronimo's was definitely one of the places I'd come back to dine at if I were to visit Stockholm again in the near future. I love the ambiance of this place tucked away in one of the small cobblestoned streets in Gamla Stan, and the long entryway downstairs that led to the tables. We ordered their asada fries with were basically carne asada meat topped over sweet potato fries with guacamole, pico de gallo and drizzled with sour cream and other garnished greens. I ordered the vegetarian quesadilla with mushrooms. ASADA FRIES (4/5): Not bad at all. I wasn't a fan of the guacamole--didn't taste the freshest, but everything else was fine. MUSHROOM QUESADILLA (5/5): Fantastic. There was also an option to get a potato quesadilla but I could not combine it with the mushrooms, but I appreciate the fact that these cool vegetarian options were available for people who didn't want to eat meat. I know I'm being biased with my reviews on their version of Mexican food because, well, we're kind of very spoiled in California with the best of the best. The service was fantastic though, and their food was full of flavor. Thank you Geronimo's!

Yelp
Found this spot and didn't realize it also has a vegan menu as well, awesome surprise. It was kind of pricey compared to vegan spots in Los Angeles but I didn't mind because the food was still delicious. I ordered the vegan nachos which are very fulfilling, it came with vegan cheese, beans, guacamole & Pico de Gallo. My boyfriend ordered the vegetarian chimichanga (huge) and said it was amazing. We both enjoyed our time and they are also dog friendly so that was a plus.

Yelp
Time for an update! I think this place has gotten a bit better, or my food selections this trip were on point! I haven't been back here in a while, but I'm glad I came. I can now say that I highly recommend the fish tacos, the pitcher of margaritas and the sweet potato fries (I didn't see sweet potato fries on the menu alone, but I asked and they awesomely made me a side of them!) The food is both simple and delicious! Big fan. I am definitely coming back for 25:- Taco Tuesday!!! On another positive note, they have added a person behind the bar upstairs to greet people. Which, fixes some of my my initial criticisms of this place. I think the only things I wish were better yesterday evening were the chips and salsa (boring thick corn chips), the newly designed menu (still hard to read in areas) and the general darkness of the restaurant (I could barely see my food.) I think I might wait to come back in the summertime so I can sit at one of the outdoor tables again. The basement was just way too dark. Other than that, I really enjoyed my visit! TIP: If they are fully booked on the website, email them and ask if they have room! They have easily squeezed me in before! TIP: Taco Tuesdays with 25:- tacos and happy hour prices on margarita pitchers. TIP: All the meat here is organic. TIP: This place doubles as a mini concert venue, so check their website for show times. TIP: Almost all menu options can be made vegetarian or vegan!

Yelp
Very good food! Recommended for those who are vegetarian and vegan. Very friendly staff. Food was filling. I had two tacos with beans and rice. Perfect for me and I didn't eat lunch.

Yelp
From the moment i stepped into this place I knew I liked it. The staff was very nice and seemed genuinely pleased that we wanted to eat there. The menu was laid out like a cartoon comic which I found very pleasing, and since I'm not a fan of very hot/spicy food I had some questions about the food and the waiter took time too explain and said she could put the spicy stuff on the side so I could try it and see if it was too spicy(which it was). the food otherwise really good, and the portions were big so you will definitely be full after eating here :) the one little problem was that the music was rather loud, but even then I can't give lower than 5 stars for the experience alone.

Yelp
The perfect mix of the american and mexican, to create legit tacos! It's time to review the nr.1 taco place in town, which neither starts with a La or ends with calo. FGT Geronimos looks like "Sitting bull" moved to TJ, a great mix of both the native american and classic mexican decor is cramed into the narrow and quite large resturant. The food is amazing and everything is on point! From the creamy guaq to the super thin, crispy chips and don't have me started on the margaritas! This is how the should taste, sweet and sour, nothing super fancy just a regular cheap-tequila-and-drink-mix-margarita! And for those of you who are feeling pretentious there are plenty of versions to chose from(spicy, patron, with agave etc) For food and drinks I personally recommend the ridiculous "Fajita bowl" with tender chicken! Why have a plastic bowl when it can be a tortilla! A big splash of guaq is under the tortillabowl to hold it down, that should settle any second thoughts, pico de gallo, lettuce, guaq and chicken everything is on fleek! The Margarita pitcher is 395kr and you get a soild 7/8 drinks out of it! The service is fast often multiple waiters checking you and they are geniunly nice and the serviceminded! On weekends they serve food til around 10' and there is loads of seating options but if you are more then four I would call and book a table! Don't miss TACOTUESDAYS when the serve tacos for 25kr! Finally, I know I can survive in Sweden! PS: I you don't talk cilantro you're not welcome

Yelp
So disappointed with this place. Came here a few weeks ago for tacos which was good, but my visit on the 22nd Aug was one of the worst restaurant visits I have ever had. A quick summary: * A band doing a sound check for a gig later that night - not told or informed until we started ordering * Food - rice was worthless, salsa had no flavour, chicken black bean burrito was dry and flavourless, * Service - waitress brought food and told us we had ordered something else. When we asked she suddenly realised it was what we had ordered -not a great image * Price - 534kr for the whole night! Overpriced for a romantic evening that was tainted. Won't return here and so disappointed that I was let down. Shame as this resultant has good design and nice idea, something a little different in town, but they really let me down this time.

Yelp
Great mexican restaurant with a funky cool interior. The food felt genuine and of high quality, miles better that most Tex-Mex in town. Good drinks, we had a Margareta pitcher. Friendly and attentive staff. An added bonus was the jazz band that played upstairs at Stampen. We will be back for sure.

Yelp
Love this place I can't here twice in a row. Great drinks, Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and amazing vegan food. Definitely one of my go to bars when in Stockholm.

Yelp
Excellent margaritas & very nice staff. However, the food lacked a little spice and the portions were too big. All in all, the restaurant had an overall good vibe, and the margaritas made up for what was missing in the food.

Yelp
I must confess, I have never been a true fan Bloody Mary. Tomato juice and celery, not my favorite combination and I have not always been convinced that it actually does much to balance (or hide) the flavor of alcohol but sometimes rather enhances it. However, as I have discovered with many drinks (and foods), it is not until you actually taste it 'well made' before you realize that you have been wrong all along. A few weeks back, I received an invite from my friends at Yelp to join them for some cocktails an early evening at Geronimos FGT, in the old town of Stockholm that is, trying at least, to build a name for themselves with among other things an excellent Bloody Mary. Despite the choice of drink, I went, as it is the good company that was most important. Also, I heard some rumors that Geronimos Bloody Mary is well worth a try. The bar is underground, decorated with stuffed mounted animals and other ornaments from the prairie. There is a lot of space to sit down and even a nice chambre séparée, so this place is good for groups. A stage in the corner suggest that there are also bands playing now and then. All in all a nice looking bar, not perhaps my style, but still nice. The menu is some sort of mix fast food Mexican and American food with some inspiring details. There is slightly more effort put into using herbs, spices and good produce than at the your average taco stand. However it is still simple enough dishes for an honest after work meal. We ordered one Bloody Mary special (a Bloody Mary with a hamburger sticking out of it - yes, you read it right, a hamburger), some tacos and a burger. We also tried the Mexican Mule (a tequila-version of a Moscow Mule). The cocktails were great! The Bloody Mary tasted like a spicy gazpacho and the Mexican Mule was fresh with lime and ginger. To my disappointment, the Bloody Mary started tasting a bit too diluted after a while, I think it had a bit too much ice in it and it was perhaps not properly mixed as the alcohol flavor came through strongly at times . Next time round I will have a Virgin Mary as I think it will actually be tastier. The food was as expected, good but not great. Value for money wise it is ok for Stockholm, but be aware that some of the dishes (like the tacos) are quite small.

Carl G.

Yelp
Really disappointed with the food. First of all the dishes could easily be served in half of the current sizes to cut some of the price. Very Americanized Mexican food (not what we expected). I would go back for their drinks though, also 1+ thanks to the great music :-).

Yelp
Oh what a night to remember, but all for the wrong reasons. At first me and my company thought we were going to have a splendid night as the young man who seated us at the table was very friendly and attentive. When asked upon what dishes that were some what stronger and what the different dishes were, he seemed to have all the answers. He informed us as we sat down that there would be a band playing later on that evening and that we were more than welcome to stay to see it. Even if punk music is not my cup of tea, I thought it was a cool and free chance of seeing something that would broaden my mind. First thing to arrive on the table was a bowl of "nachos" and I have typed this within speech marks as they looked like it but tasted nothing like it. They were lacking some salty flavour and no table salt in the world could fix this. The accompanied salsa had some kick to it, but yet again it felt like something was lacking in the flavour. It was just flat and not as chunky as I would expect a salsa to be. In the midst of eating these nibbles we can hear and I can see a band member starting to hit/play the drums. We are quickly realizing that we seem to be having dinner in the middle of a sound check. Our waiter arrives to take our main orders and explains that the band are delayed and has to do a sound check now but that it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes. I thought this was an absolute joke of a moment, like where is the Candid Camera???? When asking about the mains I wanted to ask if there was any dishes that were specifically spicy as I like strong food in moderate amounts. He said that all dishes had the same kick level as the salsa except one, which was a satisfying answer. I decided to go for the Oaxaca Black Bean Burrito with chicken (option of beef and vegan was available) as it was recommended by the waiter and my company had a Burrito Ranchero which the waiter said was his absolute favourite. So let's talk about the deal breaker, the food. My dish looked good at start but what a disappointment! The spicy rice tasted like it was well overcooked with a hint of some tomatoes and flavourless coriander, basically uneatable. Just left it. Once I started eating the actual burrito I felt so disappointed! The chicken had the dry and watery context of tinned tuna and again, no flavour combined with some sad sallad leaves, some avocado and black beans. The side dish of refried beans were basically the highlight even though they were lacking salt.

Yelp
Five stars for food, atmosphere and staff - (minus) one star for noise level = four stars. Food excellent. Drinks excellent. Prices normal for Gamla Stan. Location cute (many places are in the "bowels", below earth in Gamla Stan.) Decor is fun and a bit authentic. Super friendly staff with decent service for a Saturday night. Noise level, way too loud. We couldn't hear each other talk and my Swedish friend got a headache. This was before any band started - just normal sound/music in the restaurant. While the music was fun and appropriate for the "rock-n-roll" atmosphere, it was Motorhead for a while when we first got there, it got louder and louder and finally to such a level we had to shout and repeat ourselves to talk. But we liked the tacos, chimichanga and burrito very much. Refrained beans were on point. Guacamole was tasty. We did live in Texas for a while and this did all taste authentic. Yes. I would go back and it would be for the food. Cadillac margarita was good - Buber selection also good. I might make it a week night next time and see if there is a different noise level.
