I Stayed in a Tiny Home Cabin With My Mom — and It Brought Us Closer Than I Expected

"Located just outside the town of Catskill, this cluster of Getaway House cabins, as with the rest of the company's tiny homes and campgrounds, is just remote enough to feel like a true escape. The cabins are, unsurprisingly, quite small (between 140 to 200 square feet). Ours featured two queen-size bunk beds (although one queen bed is also available), a table and chairs, a kitchenette, and a bathroom, with just enough room for two people to stand." - Travel + Leisure Editors

What an amazing experience. We booked a cabin last minute without much expectations, but we were so thrilled with our choice! The cabins are well equipped, clean, comfortable, and super cozy. They're strategically placed throughout the property so you feel like you are completely alone in the wilderness. The firewood for the campfire was also a really nice touch. Highly recommend opting for the suite option as the outside lounge areas make a big difference in the overall experience. An amazing option if you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle to reconnect with a partner and to enjoy the outdoors. The view from the giant window in the morning is magical. Also highly recommend going to the nearby falls/hike. Can't wait to return!

I felt prompted to leave a review after seeing some recent negative ones that had made me a little nervous before our stay—but I’m so glad we went! First off, I had requested early check-in. Postcard handles most communication via text (like letting you know your cabin number and door code the day of). I wasn’t sure if I’d get a response, but I replied to their text requesting early check-in, and they got back to me quickly and allowed it, which was great since we were already in the area. When we arrived, the door code didn’t work at first, but I texted and they responded within minutes and fixed it right away. Their responsiveness was honestly excellent throughout. The cabins are spaced a decent distance apart. You can definitely see other cabins, and our nearest neighbor (once someone checked in) was close enough that they probably could’ve heard us talking, but it didn’t affect our enjoyment. You can see in the photo how far away that cabin was when looking out our window. One small note: behind that cabin was another one with string lights, and at night we could see them glowing even from our bed. It would’ve been nice if it were fully dark, but it wasn’t a big deal. The cabins themselves were amazing! They’re small but have everything you need. The A/C cooled the space down nicely, and the shower pressure and hot water were surprisingly luxurious. There were so many thoughtful touches—like included firewood and starters, dog treats and snacks, and even a long dog run cable to clip our pup’s leash to. The entire experience was just what we needed: peaceful, restorative, and super comfortable. The location is quiet and beautiful, and while you feel tucked away, there’s a grocery store about 15 minutes away where we stocked up. One note: the A/C does cycle on and off with a bit of noise (as most do), but it didn’t bother us at all. Yes, the price is a bit on the higher side, but once you're there, everything is taken care of and you really get to relax. Just make sure to bring food to cook! I do wish there were an option to choose your cabin location when booking. (I don’t believe any Postcard properties currently allow this.) There were a few vacant cabins during our stay that seemed more ideally located—tucked away with string lights and a bit more privacy—but overall our site was still lovely. Overall, we’d absolutely do this again. We had a wonderful time, and it was worth every penny for how restful and peaceful it was. I highly recommend!

Overall not my worst cabin experience but definitely not my best. The keypad to our cabin was broken when we arrived and thankfully the young man on site was able to come troubleshoot but we ended up having to use a physical key the rest of the time that we were there. That wasn’t terrible but the mini fridge in our cabin didn’t keep any of our stuff cold and the bathroom had mold growing in the shower which was shocking since Marriott purchased this company so I guess I expected…better? Idk for the price that they charge per night I would think they would be better. Either way I wouldn’t go back to this specific location but would check out others in other cities.

Enjoyed our stay until realizing the inconvenience of not having a property office that you can ask questions and call. Worst is, we left our Therrugun in our cabin worth 500$, called Marriott and no action taken. Looks like workers are dishonest. Sadly. Stay is good, cabin is smaller than expected but okay experience.

I've been obsessed with these Cabins since 2018! I'm from NY so my posts are Catskills East, Catskills West and Machimoodus, CT (Sp). I've been to all 3 but my favorite location is Catskills East. However, the last 2 times that Id booked a cabin my experience was pretty unpleasant. Well, I've just returned home today from yet ANOTHER stay at my favorite cabins and this trip truly exceeded my expectations. Before I checked into my cabin on Sunday, 4/20/25, I'd left a message with management regarding my last unpleasant stay and I had requested a cleaner cabin in a more secluded section. Welllllll, upon my arrival I was pleasantly surprised to see that not only was my request granted but they upgraded me to the cabin that has the hammock, string lights and outdoor kitchen island. OMGGGGGG IT WAS AMAAAAZING ❤️🥰❤️ I was so incredibly grateful because they did NOT have to do that. If you're wondering whether or not you should book a stay, DO IT!! If you love camping, clamping, and just being out in nature then you need to go here. It's a total reset!! I will NEVER stop coming here 🥰🥰🥰 YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!

Google
Stayed at the cabin and had a great experience. While it's a small space, it had everything we needed—fairly modern with a decent A/C, refrigerator, stove, and other essentials. The location was convenient, not too far from a grocery store. Perfect for a simple, comfortable getaway.

Google
This review is truthfully more like 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up to 4 given the responsiveness of the crew at this location. TLDR: Beautiful cabin and surroundings. Crew is very responsive and kind on text and phone helplines, but booking was very messy and there were power outages multiple times during our stay. My boyfriend and I stayed in the Joyce cabin from 6/18-6/22 and overall enjoyed our stay, but there were several hiccups that I feel like could have been improved on. When we booked our cabin, we did so through our credit card's travel portal given we had lots of points. This stay would have likely been overpriced had we paid completely out of pocket for it. Due to the Marriott acquisition, we had a lot of trouble actually confirming our stay as we were told multiple times leading up to our stay that there was no reservation on file, and then there was a reservation on file... and then when we were driving there and I called, they still said there was no reservation on file until they realized that the reservation's name had been kept under the travel agent's name and not ours, causing all the mixup. Luckily they figured it out and were SUPER nice about it, but given the fact that I had already confirmed via phone and email that my reservation was in fact confirmed 3 weeks before we drove in, that made for a super stressful car ride LOL. The cabin itself is super cute and cozy, with everything you need for a nice rustic stay. The bed is comfy, the appliances are new, and we loved sitting by the fireplace at night grilling hot dogs and smores. The surrounding Catskills region is great and we loved hiking, the food scene was surprisingly good, and there are tons of vineyards and cute towns (Rhinebeck, Woodstock) nearby to walk around. That being said, 2 out of the 4 days we stayed there there were power outages lasting hours at a time. On one day all power was gone (no water, electricity, etc), and on the second day water was gone. They don't sent alerts to their guests until you text them confused at 8am when you can't flush your toilet LOL. The crew responds quickly and are super nice and helpful, and our stay was still great, but there are definitely some things on the management side that could be improved.

Google
Too expensive after Marriott acquisition. My wife and I have been coming here 1-2x/year since Covid. It's been our favorite long weekend destination - a charming, quiet little place with gorgeous views. Since becoming owned by Marriott, the main difference seems to be the price. Judging by the Internet Archive, we likely paid $400 for a three night stay in 2022. Checking today, the cheapest two night (Fri-Sun) stay I could find was $643 before taxes+fees. This seems to be the trend with Marriott acquisitions. We absolutely loved the giant picture windows and in-room bathroom with shower. The kitchenettes are small, but serviceable if you come prepared. Overall, it's great - but $350/night is an egregious price for a trailer in the woods. This is disappointing.

Yelp
Wow, what a time! I am a true city/suburban girl at heart so when my husband said he wanted to go camping for his 30th birthday, I compromised by surprising him with a cabin "Getaway." We honestly weren't sure what to expect, especially because we were bringing our 80 pound Doberman. We ran a bit behind so we arrived a little late but the campground was so serene and quiet and we were pleasantly surprised to see that the bed was definitely large enough to fit all 3 of us. The kitchen came fully stocked with all the supplies we needed to cook the food we packed, but having a grocery store only 6 minutes away was so helpful when we realized we forgot a few minor things. We had access to WiFi the whole time and never lost connection. My husband was surprised at how fast the WiFi was since we both had to take a few work calls during the day. You can definitely see your neighbors but they are somewhat far enough away that it won't be a bother, unless they have a loud dog. Overall, we had an amazing time and we were able to do some golfing at Island Green and get a hike in to see Kaaterskills falls. We'll definitely check out another Getaway location!

Yelp
Very disappointed. We traveled 2 hours to the Eastern Catskills on a Friday night after work. On arrival, we noticed dirty hand prints all over the big window. The first thing we did was wash the windows. Our check-in time was pushed back an hour we assumed for cleaning and we arrived to this. The next day, we learned that there were 12-18 inches of snow expected on Sunday. Due to the dangerous weather conditions, we had to cut our stay short by 1 night. I reached out to management to ask about some type of partial credit or discount for a future stay. They lacked sympathy and their customer service was terrible. We paid a ton of money for 2 nights and will not be returning in the future.

Yelp
I understand that this review is because of a bad experience with extenuating circumstances. My sister and I booked the Postcard Cabins in Hocking Hills/Nelsonville, OH. She injured her back about 2.5 days before the check in time. I was only able to email them as there is no phone number. We were flatly refused the ability to reschedule or get any kind of refund. It was too close to the date for me to ask anyone else. I'm sure it would have been fun --- but this lack of customer care is just not acceptable. I won't ever book with them and I will tell anyone that it is just not worth the risk to book with them. Anyone could have an illness, accident or injury and no one can afford to just throw the cost of this cabin away. They just don't care.

Yelp
Amazing! I read some review that there are so many bugs like spiders, files and ants. But there aren't! I stayed at cabin 'saleem' and it was so clean and cozy. Everything was pefect!

Yelp
I don't get all the reviews that complain. This is as close to glamping as you can get. Hot water issues? It's a portable trailer with a portable hot water unit. How long do you expect the hot water to flow for!? People complaining it's tiny??? It's a tiny trailer! You have a bed, sheets, linens, a bathroom with walk in shower, flushable toilet, two hot plates to cook on and you have complaints?! Camping is not for you!!! People. If you like camping but your girlfriend/boyfriend/partner does not this is as close to glamping as you'll get. Everything is provided for you. All you need to bring are the essentials, clothing, food, heck not even soap or shampoo are needed. They're provided. Even fire wood, fire starters, a s'mores kit and sticks to roast them. Come on people!!!

Yelp
I would recommend this to anyone that is truly looking for a getaway! I loved it so much that i have been twice. Their CT location and Eastern Catskills. I personally liked the CT location better but i am looking forward to trying out their different locations around the country. The ambiance there was so serene, quiet and very private. Great for couples, friends, family and even a solo trip. The cabins have everything you would need from kitchen supplies, games, a cell phone lock box, wood/ fire starter and a s'mores kit. What i also liked is that the cabins aren't too close to each other so it does provide more privacy. I also felt very safe there and they also provide a phone incase you don't have service and need to contact customer service.

Yelp
This is unique experience if you want to camp but with more comforts. It's like a tiny cabin. It has everything you need to have a comfortable experience. Stove top, sink, Cooking utensils, bathroom, and shower. They provide wood for cheap. My only complaint would be the AC didn't keep it as cool as I'd like since it wasn't quite cold enough outside to leave the windows open. We brought our dog too. They added a dog bowl, treats and poop bags; which was a nice touch.

Yelp
Truly a different kind of experience. This cabin is ISOLATED. The only sound you'll hear is your own breathing- it is frighteningly refreshing. The view is splendid. All the utensils are neat and the cabin contains all the essentials. The s'mores and fire are unique- not possible at your regular hotel stay. The cabin is very warm- we enjoyed the stay very much. The sustenance box is good as well- recommend!!

Yelp
We had such a magical experience at Catskills West! We went in late December, which we though was going to be too cold and uncomfortable. However, it was the exact opposite. The drive in was mildly snowy, but we might've caught a good day when there wasn't any snow actively falling while we were driving. The heater they provide inside is more than enough warmth to warm up the 200 sq ft cabin. The bed is comfortable, the linens/showers/surfaces are clean, and the smores pack is a nice touch. The stove works fine, and the old timey radio is cute (and also has blue tooth so you can play your own tunes). The window is absolutely beautiful, and I loved waking up and looking at the snowy trees around us. Getaway thought of everything, and we had no complaints with our stay here. We can't wait to see what all four seasons are like here and in other locations of Getaway!

Yelp
So disappointed in getaway house, after being there a few times. We had to cancel our trip and apparently our credits expire so wen trying to book another trip for this year they told me that my 450 dollars worth of credits is no longer there and they cannot reinstate them. to me that is just taking someones money, amazing place to go but they don't care if about their customers.

Yelp
I came here with my small son for just an overnight getaway. I was really excited because I saw such beautiful pictures online and heard amazing things about getaway house. After staying at the getaway house I have mixed feelings. I'll start with the positive stuff: The staff is really communicative even days before your trip. You get text message updates about your cabin and you can reply back to the text messages with any questions, concerns, and needs that you have before and during your stay. The person sending the text was really responsive and got back to me right away. The cabin itself is pretty clean. And it has all your basic needs. My absolute favorite part was having our own fire pit. And they even give you a S'mores Kit, although I recommend bringing extra marshmallows, chocolate and Graham crackers. They also have the wood and fire starters for you for a small extra fee. Also had someone who has never started a fire in a fire pit before, when I text for instructions they gave me an article with step-by-step instructions that were really easy to follow to start a fire in the fire pit. They do warn you that you're not going to have service while there on your phone but I actually had service where I was, and was able to tether my Wi-Fi to watch a movie with my son before bed. My son had an absolute blast! Now for the negative stuff: When I first walked in, although I knew it was tiny, I was really surprised on how tiny the cabin actually is. When I walked in I realized why all the pictures on Instagram are taken in the bed near the big window. The best part of the cabin, the rest of the cabin is small and nice but nothing to write home about. The first thing I noticed when walking in was the pretty strong wood smell inside the cabin, which makes sense because the entire inside of the cabin is made of wood, but it surprised me and I think mixed with the fact that I haven't eaten much earlier in the day the smell with giving me a headache (the best way to describe the smell is the wood section of a homedepot). But after I ate something and was in the cabin for a while I got used to it and I didn't notice it anymore. Also the cabins are pretty close to each other. I had a cabin next to mine, I'm thankful that the one that I had all the windows were facing the woods and my fireplace was away from everyone too (I was the last cabin) so I had more privacy and never had to look at my neighbor's but the cabin next to me one of their windows with staring at the back of our cabin and any time I had to walk the 30ft or whatever back to my car I had to pass by thier fire pit area. The last thing was the shower, it's a nice size, clean and I LOVE this soap and hair products, but the hot water is limited. I gave my son a less than 5 minutes shower and then I went in right after for less than 10 minutes, and before my shower was done the water became cold. So if you like hot showers you have to be pretty quick or be the first person in the shower. All in all, I had a good experience and I think it's definitely something that you should experience at least once. I don't think I would stay there longer than one or two nights. I think after I have experienced it that it might be a while before I go again but I'm glad that I got to do it this time! And again I really loved the fire pit area!

Yelp
If you ever need a place to unplug and getaway for a bit, this is the perfect place to do so. No TVs in this place as it's you and outdoor life. Fire pit and essentials to start a fire are also included. Only thing I would change is that a sink should be placed in the bathroom. There is a kitchen sink in the trailer, but that's the only sink in the entire place. Other than that it's a great place to unplug and to unwind and relax.

Yelp
Check-in starts at 3pm and check-out is by 11am. I wish check ins started earlier. I stayed for one night and it was generally pretty easy stay and convenient camping experience with everything available. The shower, sink, kitchenware, fridge etc. The cabin was maintained pretty well- and clean. However, I had to take 2 stars off due to sleep situation. I did not get a good sleep at all. This goes the same for my husband as well. We both rarely slept. We tried to sleep and there were so many little flies attacking our face all night that we would wake up every half hour or so. It was really bad- I honestly don't understand what the solution is to fix this- I camped out in a tent before and this never happened. I had to share because otherwise the management would never know. Other than that it's such a nice little cabin and great spots for photos!

Yelp
Literally the best camping experience ever. Or should I say glamping! What a great time. The cabins are so cute, homey, and literally have everything you need. The staff is great and accommodating. We had no problems whatsoever. Our kids loved it, we loved it!!! We will definitely be going back.

Yelp
I've been getting ads for Getaway for years now. I'm not a big camping person, but my partner is, and Getaway seemed like the perfect middle ground. Turns out, they're super popular! I've been trying for years to book a weekend spot and finally struck gold this summer. One of the only highlights of 2020 tbh. After being stuck in our NYC studio apartment for 7 months we were desperate to disconnect and spend some time in nature. One of the reasons we chose Getaway is their safety precautions. This felt like the safest option given the distance between cabins and the virtual check-in process. We were able to rent a car, drive upstate, and get some much-needed relaxation without putting others at risk. The cabins themselves are efficiency units with all of the bells and whistles. Something in particular we loved was not having to lug a bunch of cooking gear with us. This includes your standard non-stick pan, pot, tea kettle, and cooking utensils. I do recommend bringing a spatula though if you plan on making breakfast. In terms of comfortability, this was an easy A+. My number one priority is always finding a comfy bed and this fits the bill. Plus, how can you not love the wall-sized windows? We loved our stay here and wouldn't hesitate to book again. The price is totally worth it.

Ali K.

Yelp
We just finished a trip here. It was so refreshing, relaxing, and rejuvenating. The cabins are so cute, clean, and needs. They provide absolutely everything you could possibly need in the nature. The fire pit was a really nice touch as well. Customer service was also fantastic, as Toni trout Really helped us out.

Yelp
Booked a night at Getaway in the Catskills and I was so happy I did! It was not only beautiful, clean and spacious, but so relaxing! It was just what we needed to get away from the city! We brought our dog along for an extra fee, well worth it! Highly recommend! We will be booking again!!!!! 5 stars!

Joni B.

Yelp
We stayed in the Eastern Catskill location. I was super excited for this "getaway" however was a bit let down upon arrival. In everything I read prior to our trip you were lead to believe that you "might" see your neighbors. There is no might, you will see them! At least at this location think campground with a little more spacing. No secluded as expected. And wifi? I thought that was one of your selling points? No service? Unplug? The tiny house was cute and well maintained. But the price for sure was not worth it. Pretty pricey for no seclusion. I will not return.

Yelp
This is the best little getaway I've ever had. My bf and I had a great time relaxing and enjoying ourselves. The cabin was in prestine condition everything was super clean and the bed was very comfy. We had everything we needed to cook our meals and the cabin had good running water and hot water. The only thing I didnt like is that they didn't have olive oil in the cabin like they said they would and by the time we needed it, it was late. They also had the wrong name on the welcome letter. It said chunxci or something like that, which is not our name lol. But overall, it was very fun and relaxing. Would come back!

Yelp
Getaway was exactly as cozy and relaxing as it seems in it's ads and pictures. The cabins are small but they're very thoughtfully configured and ours had everything we need. We read, listened to the radio, cooked and left feeling very refreshed. There is a Walmart, liquor store, hardware store and a cute town nearby. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
Great weekend getaway from NYC. Everything is really well done, very clean, warm, cozy and lots of supplies here so you don't need to bring much at all. Very much a hotel room in the woods. Loved: - Smores kit they provided - Wood ready for fire ($6 a bag) - Great view from our cabin - Super comfy bed - Hiking trails just 25 mins drive away (we did the Marys Glen trail which was medium to challenging - about 4hrs walk) - Customer service was really responsive when we called them with a small issue in our cabin Improvement ideas: - Our cabin was about 50ft from another one. Although they didn't bother us, a bit more space would have been great. - Security gate at the front would be a good idea for extra safety (not that we saw anything untoward) - Would love to have been able to get "room service" with a local bakery/butcher with supplies/grill kit to deliver breakfast/food at our expense. Maybe even a reception/camp store would be a good idea to buy ice etc or talk to someone about what we could do on our trip/ local hiking trails. - More grilling and fire making tools would have been great (not sure if our were just missing but we had to use cooking utensils to make the fire - Our door was unlocked when we showed up, all was fine and our code worked to lock it These improvement ideas do not distract from how great our stay was. 5 starts all round, will be coming back for sure :)
