Geumgwanchong is a large ancient tomb located in Gyeongju, South Korea, part of the Daereungwon Tomb Complex. It dates back to the Silla Dynasty and is known as the "Gold Crown Tomb" because of the gold artifacts, including a crown, that were found inside. The tomb is one of the many royal burial mounds scattered across Gyeongju, which was once the capital of the Silla Kingdom.
Visitors can explore the surrounding park where the tomb is located, along with other nearby royal tombs. The site offers a peaceful atmosphere with grassy mounds and walkways, making it a popular spot for both history enthusiasts and casual visitors. There is no entrance fee specifically for Geumgwanchong, but there is usually a fee for entering the larger Daereungwon Tomb Complex, which includes access to other important tombs like Cheonmachong.
There are informational signs in both Korean and English that explain the historical significance of the tombs. It’s best to visit during daylight hours, and the complex is a short walk or taxi ride from the city center of Gyeongju.
