Gewandhaus Dresden, Autograph Collection

Gewandhaus Dresden was built in 1770 as the headquarters of the clothmakers' guild and is located next to the City Hall and near Dresden Hbf. The Altstadt is at a 8 minutes walking distance. Like 90% of the baroque city, the Gewandhaus was destroyed by RAF & USAAF bombing and the following firestorm in February 1945. After DDR restoration in the 1960s, it became a hotel. Completely renovated in 2015 the Gewandhaus offers 97 quality rooms over 5 floors, restaurant & patio-terrace, meeting rooms, and gym & sauna with pool. Furnishings and decoration provide a quiet, top-quality atmosphere. Service is impeccable. Our comfortable corner room at floor 4 had a desk & chair, bench & coffee-table, 2 club-chairs, TV, wardrobe with safe & ironing facility, Nespresso facility & fridge, and an excellent kingsize bed. Windows can open. We had a marble bathroom with washbasin, bubble-bath with shower, and toilet. All was impeccably clean. A superb buffet breakfast is served: eggs made to order, a choice of cold cuts & cheeses, breads & toast, cereals & fruits, milk & yoghurts, juices & preserves, rolls & croissants, sparkling wine, tea & coffee. Gewandhaus Dresden is a most comfortable hotel. Highly recommended.

Perfectly located; close to all the main spots but not right in the middle of everything, which makes it a really peaceful place to stay while exploring the city. The rooms are classic in style and very spacious. Breakfast had a good variety and was delicious. We recommend sitting in the covered central patio, such a nice spot! Big thanks to the hotel team for making our stay a nice experience.

I booked a hotel here while attending a concert at the Kulturpalast and the Christmas markets when they opened. This was a perfect location for both events. I had a corner room and I could see the lights from the market from my room. There were lots of restaurants nearby with great variety and good service within the hotel itself. I didn't eat in the hotel restaurant, but I did have a pastry from the bakery there and it was delicious. It's a location with great walkability to lots of places. I would stay there again.

The hotel is lovely and the service is outstanding. Located in a quieter area but walking distance to everything Weihnachtsmarkt. The room is not terribly spacious but accommodated us well, even with our dog, who was warmly welcomed with a treat, a bed and bowls-such a sweet touch. The massive tub with jets was much appreciated after walking all over the city. My only complaint is the mattress-if you have aches and pains and pressure points, be warned that it is very hard and firm.

The hotel is a spectacular historic building not too far from the main train station. The walk from the station takes you through an interesting shopping district with lots of food outlets. The hotel itself is very quiet, very well equipped and the staff were extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was excellent, and there are several good restaurants within 50 meters of the hotel. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the main attractions of the city and the tram stops are close to the hotel. When we return I have no doubt that we'll stay here again.

Stayed here a few times and hands down one of my favorite Autograph Collection properties in Europe. Rooms are great, staff is great, and the restaurant is top notch. Location is perfect (especially during the Weihnachtsmärkte session) for everything in Altstadt and three main tram lines within 5 mins. Love this place.

Gorgeous building with very helpful staff. Bathroom decor is great and shower cubicles are perfectly sized. Lots of attention to detail in rooms that are clean and very comfortable. ||Breakfast choices are incredibly varied - hot, cold, sweet,savoury etc. ||Very quiet location and yet close to visitors attractions and main railway station in Altstadt. ||I would recommend this hotel as a great place to stay

Everything was perfect! The room was very clean and comfortable, although not particularly spacious. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and everything went smoothly during our stay. I gave one star less because of the location — there is no parking at the hotel anymore. You can still see the old parking area in the photos on Google Maps, but it no longer exists, as a new building has been constructed there.

We stayed one night here, it is in a great location on the fringe of the old city, allowing one to have silence at night but walk to the action in the daytime. There is a convenient dirt lot across the street to park. The rooms were very nice quality and the place had a historic renovated feel, it used to be the "cloth hall" merchant center. Nice service and a nice modern feel in the lounge, it was fairly quiet and not highly occupied even in June, reasonable prices.

At first appearance, this is a very fancy, nice hotel. It's in a great location easy walking distance from all the sites to see in Dresden. It has a parking lot directly across the street so you don't need to pay an arm and a leg for valet parking like other hotels. They had a very nice breakfast buffet, very similar to every other German hotel we stayed at during our 8-day trip through Germany. They also have a very nice swimming pool in the basement. My three main complaints with Gewandhaus were: 1. Terrible WiFi. We could not get WiFi signal in our room and had to go out into the hallway with a clearer line-of-sight to the lobby to get any signal at all. 2. Water temp fluctuations. Neither the sink faucets nor the showers did a very good job of mixing the incoming hot and cold water, so you had the strange sensation of feeling both scalding hot and freezing cold water at the same time, and the temperature of the water fluctuated while we were taking our showers. 3. Not connected to Marriott computer system? None of the room preferences we entered when making the reservation in the Marriott website were received at the hotel. We requested one room with a a king and one room with separate twin beds for my two sons, and we requested a feather-free room since my wife is allergic to down. They didn't get either of those requests. They were happy to oblige and quickly separated the beds in my sons' room and got foam pillows for my wife, but they said they were not aware of those requests before we arrived.
