Ghan House

I booked Ghan House to celebrate my 70th birthday. We had a brilliant time there. My family stayed on Friday and Saturday nights and we had all our guests there on Saturday night. The rooms are beautiful, the food was amazing, Paul, Claire and Orla did everything to make our stay memorable. I would strongly recommend Ghan House for any family occasion.

A wonderful venue, great location, comfortable rooms, delicious food and friendly attentive staff. |We celebrated my wife’s 60th birthday, the chef produced such delicious food in the private dining room, the sitting room with its open fire was ideal for pre dinner drinks. The lovely breakfast was just right delivered to table. |Overall Ghan House looked after the little things which made our family gathering special.

This is an old world establishment that has being very tastefully renovated to modern levels but preserving the character of the building . You are greeted with a smile and a genuine hello from the staff. Food excellent and as it is a small hotel , very personal. It could be chosen for that special weekend away with you both leaving with a big smile on your face . | Hotel is in the centre of Carlingford, literally, but in its own grounds so preserving its own personality. | All of our group were more than delighted with hotel and plan to return individually.

After staying at the Ghan House in October 2024, we decided to have our wedding party there: We had our wedding at Ghan House with 70 guests on a Friday in early September 2025, and we honestly couldn’t have chosen a better venue. From the very beginning, communication during planning – and on the day itself – was excellent. The team was incredibly accommodating and made all of our requests and wishes possible in a reasonable and professional way. The service and staff were outstanding, including impeccable time keeping on the day. Everything ran smoothly, allowing us to fully enjoy ourselves. The venue itself is stunning – the house and garden are beautiful and create such a special atmosphere. Ghan House really feels like a sanctuary right in the centre of Carlingford, which is especially valuable on busy weekends when the town can turn into a crazy stag-party hotspot. One huge plus was that all guests could stay within walking distance, and it’s also just a short walk to St. Michael’s Church, which made logistics incredibly easy. The location is ideal for activities the day before or after the wedding – we enjoyed a hike to Slieve Foye, sauna time at Hot Box, golfing, and even joining the stag-party chaos at PJ’s for those who wanted it. The venue has a real house-party vibe, with different rooms to move between (bar room, fireplace room, etc.), which our guests absolutely loved. We received so many compliments on the atmosphere – everyone had an amazing time. Food was another highlight: very good quality, with excellent vegetarian and vegan options (plenty and well thought out). We chose the buffet, with starters and desserts served, which worked perfectly. The breakfast the next morning was also amazing. Also we were able to bring our own wine (for a corkage fee). In short: don’t hesitate – book it!! Ghan House exceeded all our expectations and gave us a wedding day we (and our guests) will never forget. Lovely food, very accommodating to food allergies. Rooms gorgeous, perfect for a quiet escape and a 2 min walk into Carlingford.

Stayed here on a Saturday night in their main house family room. Room was fantastic and well worth the extra money. We had dinner in the restaurant in the evening which was nice. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic. The natural yoghurt with their poached plums and granola was delicious. Great selection of homemade jams and bread as well. We also had the cooked breakfast which was very tastey. The only thing I would maybe suggest is having some gentle back ground music on when people are dining as the silence in the room was a little bit awkward at times. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. The house itself is in a brilliant location to the village and has plenty of room for safe parking for guests.

We had an amazing time at Ghan house beautifully situated in the heart of Carlingford on its own private grounds. an oasis in an already beautiful spot. The staff were fantastic friendly and efficient. Nothing was too much work. The breakfast is possibly one of the best I’ve ever had you have to try the pears with turmeric. The dining room was so elegant. It had beautiful antique China.. we had an excellent four course meal the scallops were a highlight five stars an amazing place for a short break.

Another great stay in this special place in a beautiful town. Excellent accommodation in every way, with first class breakfast worthy of any 5star hotel. Quiet bedrooms and grounds and still 2 minute walk to historic town of Carlingford.|The surrounding landscape of sea and mountain views are stunning, with amazing walks to the hills and on the flat.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Ghan house. Very cozy location with incredible hospitality from all the Ghan House team. Definitely worth a visit if you're planning a trip to Carlingford.

Offers spectacular, locally sourced food. Meals out of this world, banqueting nights a speciality.Boutique style bed and breakfast service, fantastic and rooms fit for a Queen. Book well in advance however, expensive but well worth a visit for that special treat!!
