"Happy Hour Brilliance in One of Belgium’s Lesser Known Cities Poor Ghent often gets overlooked, thanks in large part to nearby Bruges. For some reason Bruges has always been labeled as the pretty one, or the one most likely to succeed. What most visitors don’t realize is that Ghent also enjoys many of the same features that have made Bruges so famous. One of my favorite things to do in Ghent is to enjoy evening drinks with friends alongside the canals. Flemish design is easy to spot, the gables and unique style giving it away every time. Ghent looks more like Amsterdam than a Belgian city and it’s easy to lose oneself in the romance that waterside views necessarily evoke. For a great drink head to any of the canal side restaurants and order the only beer made locally, Gruut. The brewster, Annick De Splenter, spent years researching medieval methods of creating gruut beer that is made without hops and has created a delicious line of beers that are true to the history of the region and of course taste amazing."

Ghent Marriott Hotel

"Marriott Ghent plays peek-a-boo on the Korenlei – its medieval exterior (the façade of four buildings) betraying nothing of the soaring glass and steel atrium within. The ancient-modern juxtaposition continues with the mod furnishings in the rough-hewn Brixx Cellar Lounge. Rooms are modern and up to chain standards, but the central location is the main event."

My stay at the Ghent Marriott Hotel was truly exceptional. This beautifully located hotel combines comfort, style, and good service — all right in the centre of Ghent’s historic district. You’re just steps away from the canals, charming streets, and all the major sights, yet the hotel itself offers a calm, upscale atmosphere that's perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. One of the highlights for me was the gym — clean, well-equipped, and open 24/7, which was ideal for keeping up with my fitness routine during my trip. It had everything I needed for a proper workout, which isn’t always the case with hotel gyms in Belgium. The breakfast was another standout feature. The selection was excellent: a generous buffet with freshly baked pastries, quality cold cuts and cheeses, fruit, and really good coffee. The breakfast space was bright and welcoming, and service was attentive without being intrusive. My room was elegant and comfortable, with thoughtful details, a plush bed, and large windows offering beautiful views of the canal. The hotel also has a stylish bar and lounge area with a cosy atmosphere — perfect for a drink in the evening. All in all, the Ghent Marriott Hotel offers everything you could ask for in a city stay: fantastic location, modern facilities, a great gym, and top-notch breakfast. I wouldn’t hesitate to return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Ghent for business or leisure.

This may have been the best Marriott I’ve stayed at! The rooms are exceptional and feel luxurious. The staff are all incredibly kind and go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and help with any issues. The breakfast buffet is worth it!! Seriously there are so many food options and they all taste amazing. I accidentally didn’t make our booking long enough, so they scrambled to help us find a room for the last night we were in town—even though they were also hosting a conference during that time! The manager of the front desk (Juncal) was incredibly kind and made me feel better when I realized the mistake I had made. She assured me there would be a room with that hotel or another close by and she made magic happen to follow through on the promise. Just a seriously great person. She deserves a raise! Also be sure to sit at the bar and chat with the bartenders. In particular, Lucia was so enjoyable to talk with. Great representation of the Marriott brand all the way around.

We arrived on a Monday morning from Rotterdam to Antwerp using the Eurostar and switched over to an inter-city train to get Saint Peter’s. It was too far of a walk from the train station so we rented a cab about 3 1/2 miles to get to the old city of Saint peters||When we arrived at the Marriott, our hotel room was not ready. The building was under construction from the third floor on up. We were on the first floor construction took place between 9 and 6 PM. We were never there so it never bothered us. Our room was recently renovated. We had a beautiful riverfront room. The hotel is very modern on the inside and when you passed a brick walkway, it leads to the old city restaurant shops bars. Everything is there within walking distance perfect location. I would highly recommend staying here. The room had everything that you needed huge bathroom, shower tub. Toilet toiletries, rugs, slippers, coffee, tea, refrigerator, comfortable beds plenty of outlets windows that opened up onto the waterfront pretty view at night too when the sun is setting highly recommended. When we got back at 4 PM for check-in in our room still was not ready. They gave us two tickets to get beer and wine which we used within 10 minutes. Our room was ready. Kudos to the hospitality staff at the Marriott.

Google
Fabulous hotel in a fabulous location. ||The Marriott has an enviable location in Ghent, situated on the Kroneli and overlooking the Graslei- it couldn't get any better than this in Ghent.||The hotel is undergoing renovations and the room allocated to me was a newly done up with slice of a view of the Graslei from the window. Typical Marriott style room, wonderfully clean.||The front desk is warm, welcoming and helpful. They also provide you with a travel guide with a detailed write-up on every attraction - most helpful and quite unique. ||Had a memorable time sitting at the bar outside the Hotel and watching the day trippers traipse around. ||Though I stayed at the Ghent Marriott only for 3 days, I wish I had booked a longer stay - hope to return to Ghent and to the Ghent Marriott in the near future.

Google
We stayed two nights at this wonderful property located in the heart of Ghent on a canal. We weren’t gifted a canal view, but, our room had a semi city view, was comfortable, and included an above average breakfast. Great lobby and bar area. We took Uber from Sint-Pieters train station for around 10 Euros.

Google
The location is ridiculously good. Breakfast is nice and the cafe tables by the river are great. Hotel itself isn’t so special on the inside, but is clean and reliably Marriott. Pro tip, take a taxi from the station. Where the tram drops you is a very bumpy luggage pull longer than it looks.

Google
Great location! Everything I wanted to see was within a five minute walk. And the people at the hotel were wonderful! They were very apologetic about the work to upgrade the hotel but I didn’t even notice. The room size is average for a European hotel but no worse than some of the smaller hotels in the US. I will definitely stay here again.

I stay often at the Ghent Marriott Hotel, and each time has been nothing short of amazing. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the city.||The property itself is beautiful — clean, comfortable, perfectly located, and recently renovated — but what truly sets it apart is the outstanding service at reception.||The front desk team deserves special recognition. They’re not only professional and efficient, but also genuinely friendly, attentive, and always ready to help. They consistently go above and beyond to make me feel at home.||A special mention to Katrien, Jasmien and Juncal who are incredibly kind and make every interaction an absolute pleasure. It’s rare to find such warm, personable hospitality — and it truly makes a difference.||||Whether you’re visiting for business or leisure, Ghent Marriott Hotel offers a perfect combination of comfort and top-tier service. I’ll continue returning — and recommending it to anyone looking for a standout hotel experience in Ghent.

Yelp
Great center location near so much. Hotel was well attended to and within 10 mins you could walk to so many attractions. Staff were extremely courteous We had to joining rooms with our 2 children and it worked out perfectly.

Yelp
This is a really exceptional hotel. Its location couldn't be better. The rear of the hotel is on Korenlei which is an absolute must visit. It's just a few minute walk to most of what you want to see in Ghent. The staff were helpful and kind. The inside of the hotel is beautiful with glass walls to the ceiling and an open concept. Unfortunately, they were doing some renovations that blocked the view from the hallway to the rooms. The rooms were pretty decently sized. I booked two rooms as we were traveling with my parents and for better or worse, this is the only hotel during our entire 2 week, multi-city trip that gave us connecting rooms. The bed was comfy, towels and linens soft, and the AC actually worked unlike many other hotels we stayed in during the stretch. There was no view from the room, however. They also gave me a token for each member of my party to redeem for a free drink, which was a very nice touch. This place is fantastic.

Yelp
I usually stay at Novotel Centrum when in Gent, but always loved the lobby here so gave it a try. Once out of the beautiful lobby, the hotel quickly declines. The Roma were average and felt clean enough, but the condition of the rooms were slightly above motel 6. It was fine, but will be going back to Novotel in the future.

Yelp
We had a fantastic stay. The staff was extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful with many good suggestions for activities and dining. The hotel itself could not be in a more central location, it's even a stop on many of the walking tours. We ate in the hotel at the bar. The food was fabulous. The service even extended to them contacting me after we left to inform me that I had left my wireless headphones in the room. They then made arrangements to ship them to me. They exemplify the excellent service all Marriott hotels aspire to.

Yelp
AMAZING hotel in Ghent. Centrally located, right by the water, and in the heart of the key "walkable" part of Ghent. I'm not normally a Marriott hotel person, but this one was clean, well light, and amazing. It's really modern, and connected to the beautiful cobblestone roads by the river. Definitely an amazing place to stay in Ghent.

Yelp
I have to thank Balthus for getting us a room for our trip to Ghent. We were originally to stay at another hotel which was impossible for my husband (amputee, prosthetic, wheelchair) We came in to the lounge/bar to grab a bite to eat and I knew this is where we needed to be. Balthus was so very helpful and proceeded to remedy our issue. The whole staff at the Marriott were phenomenal, forever grateful for all that they did to make this trip a once in a lifetime memory, I should mention my husband has never been to Europe, whereas my Mother is from Ghent, so this was a very emotional time in Ghent paying my respects to my family who we lost these past few years. I love Ghent, the people and the Marriott Hotel staff went above and beyond. Highly recommend!!!!

Yelp
Great location right on the river. Easy walk to restaurants and bars along with the cathedrals. Comfortable room and amazing breakfast!!

Yelp
I don't think I've ever had a better Marriott stay. The location is fantastic, and while it's a bit expensive, they have their own parking garage (small, so during peak season you may want to pay to reserve a spot). The service was super friendly, and the while the overall layout of the hotel is atypical, it's interesting in a good way. The reason for the atypical layout is that the thing fronts Korenlei, which meant they had to preserve the outward appearance. As a result, when you look at it from the canal it just looks like two old houses, and the interior layout is a little odd. Quirky, but cool! We got upgraded to a canal view room, and it was the best view I've ever had from a Marriott, looking right down onto the Korenlei and Graslei, with the churches and market tower just right there. The room itself was what you'd expect from a well-maintained Marriott; clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included in our stay, and the speed int he restaurant was really impressive! Much more than a normal continental breakfast, there was a substantial buffet, or you could order off a menu if you really wanted to. Highly recommended!

Yelp
The exterior looks like a guild house and the inside looks like a Calatrava. The location could scarcely be more central, right on the Korenlei. Rooms are tight, but mice and modern. We got a good deal for a Sunday night, though it didn't include breakfast.

Yelp
Oh well what do you know - another 5 star rating for this hotel! I really enjoyed this hotel stay, more over the other stays i've had while in Gent. Its a totally Americanized hotel - even to the point where there is an "American Breakfast", and conversations you can hear in the lobby are of mostly English. So if you're dipping your feet into visiting Gent, and don't want to feel awkward staying in a foreign hotel - THIS Marriott will make you feel like you've never left the good ole' USA. Things worth mentioning that i didnt care too much for... - there's no executive lounge (:() so they give you 5E vouchers to use at the bar, which pretty much guarantees you a free beer. - Parking garage is really tight. and the ceilings are low - be careful when you open up your hatchback rental car trunk, or you'll smash - as did i :( - The shampoo/conditioner seems pretty out dated, not that the scents smelled bad, just seemed like it was a collection from the 90s. I'd totally come back - and worth it asking for a free upgrade to a river view room.

Yelp
Centrally located, we were quite pleased to be able to find this hotel easily. Upon check-in, Julie at the reception was so warm and welcoming. Really appreciated the time she took with us to make sure we were well informed about not only the hotel, but Ghent as well. Because of our status with Marriott, we were fortunate to receive an upgrade to a Presidential Suite. Wow - such a beautiful, modern hotel with every possible amenity. The VIEW! Wow - And, breakfast was included with our room which was perfect. Highly recommended and would stay again.

Yelp
Have stayed here many times and you won't find a better location in downtown Gent. Right on the canal and walking distance to beautiful streets and 100's of restaurants. The hotel is clean, comfortable, friendly staff, and very modern. The bar is classy and inviting. It is beautiful that from the canal the facade looks like the property is several old buildings, but inside is a chic, modern, and very upscale hotel.

Yelp
Great location especially for the festival. Room was comfortable. Staff was very helpful. You can get a view of the river if you play your cards right or have status. Parking is spacious for large cars. It's about 25 a day if I recall correctly. I got a nice room rate as a member for 189. It was better than thru hotels.com.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best hotels in Ghent. Nice staff. Room is clean and new. It's located in Ghent city center, so short distance walking to a lot of restaurants. You can take a tram (tram 1) to Gent-Sint-Pieters train station to go to Brussels airport for less than €5 (must be cash) or take a taxi for about €20 (credit card is okay). €140 for a Friday night + €4 for a water bottle Typical check out time is noon, but you can extend it till 2pm.

Yelp
Swanky! Yes, this place is as you would expect of a Marriott. I didn't stay here so my review and shout out goes to their lounge plus outside restaurant terrace. As you would experience, service was impeccable here. Staff were very accommodating and attentive. The lounge is spacious and as a really nice ambience about it, not too pretentious but just the right amount of grace about it! Their restaurant has an amazing setting over looking the canal with beautiful backdrops of the medieval castle to one side and the grand cathedrals of Gent to the other. I love hotels who are just as welcoming to guests just dining or drinking as they would be to guests staying overnight.

Yelp
What a beautiful exterior with a great location! We got there early and parked in the garage - and I assume parking must be an issue - because we were told multiple times good thing we got a spot. The lot is tiny, and the lights are on sensors so a little creepy when you walk into the darkness! Room was spacious - we didn't have a view. Mini fridge in room. We had breakfast the next day - everyone was kind and friendly and breakfast was good. There was a musical festival going on - this must be a regular occurrence.

Yelp
Can't say enough good things... Our room was epic, lots of warmth and architecture like a BnB. See if you can pay extra and upgrade! And Lauren from the front desk is such a sweetheart. Even the restaurant was good, can't find one thing wrong with this place. Awesome hotel

Yelp
For me, this is one of my favorite locations. We usually stay closer to the airport because we don't like to drive after the long flight from ATL, but on this occasion we decided to try this property about 1 hours drive from the Brussels airport, and only about 45 mins from my customer's location. After we arrived and parked our car in the underground lot, we were promptly greeted by the people at the front desk. We were concerned about checking in so early because it was only about 10am. It was no problem and I was upgraded to a canal view room (see the picture from my window). For only 99Euro, I thought this was a good deal for a full service European hotel -- and breakfast was included. What sold me on making a return trip to this hotel is the location -- right on the canal, and withing walking distance from hundreds of shops, restaurants, outdoor bars, and quaint below street level taverns, where you're greeted by locals just like "Norm" on Cheers. The food was excellent, the beer was excellent, and most of the chocolate shops were giving away samples. As far as the hotel amenities -- top notch. Clean - very quiet - warm (no air leaks that are very prevalent in older hotels, and great food.

Yelp
Absolutely adored this hotel! The facade of the hotel and the decor is new and modern. Staff is welcoming and attentive. A quick exit through the back leads to what is basically a fairytale location--this hotel is spectacularly located. The rooms were comfortable and well appointed by American standards. The bed was comfortable and the rooms looked new. The hotel is also very close to the Tram, which makes for easy access to the train station. Fantastic hotel, fantastic staff, and a fantastic location.

Yelp
After a quick train ride from Brussels, the wife and I had made our way to Ghent. We quickly found out that everything old is new again when we arrived at our hotel. It was the perfect combination of half modern looking and half old world architecture. I really enjoyed the esthetic of the layout. The back entrance leads out to one of the many rivers that run throughout the city. The contrast of the modern main entrance to the lobby is striking with the old world charms of the preserved facade on the river side entrance. We were greeted warmly and our room was ready early, so we could drop our stuff off and go right out and explore Ghent. The room was nice, nothing overly special but comfortable. It was nice that there was a restaurant in the hotel, not to mention that it was a very good one at that. It's called Coeur D'Artichaut. We had dinner there once, which was great food, as well as our daily breakfast buffet. The breakfast buffet had all kinds of variety of foods from breads, pastries, meats, cheeses, fruits, eggs, bacon and cereal. On top of that there was a convenient lobby bar/cafe that seemed to be open all day just about. For location and hospitality the Ghent Marriott was in the middle of it all and made it easy to see and experience all that Ghent had to offer. There were even fireworks just off the river side entrance for New Year's Eve. The tour guide on our river tour mentioned that our hotel used to be a brothel and brewery back in the day, several hundreds of years ago. I like even more.

Yelp
Excellent location and staff and everything. Surely a great place to visit and stay with family Exterior elegance is maintained while interior is modernized Great and helpful staff

Yelp
This is a very good hotel , The staff are very friendly and go the extra mile to help you get around this beautiful city . The rooms are decorated to a very high standard , But one of the best things is it's ideal location , It's close to the train statio and central to all shops and Restaurants , I would highly recommend it

Yelp
The best stay! The hotel is well organized, the rooms are lovely, the central location is superb, the hotel is right in the center of town, 1 min from all the boat tours. The breakfast is superb from made to order omelets to all the amazing berries (red currant, strawberries, gooseberries and so on) and all other items in between. The service and the vibe of the hotel is great, you even get chocolates in your room upon arrival.

Yelp
great great great. what a place. clean, nice, friendly, cheap. right on the river in the center of the old town. one of the best places we stayed on a 17 day trip. highly recommend this hotel.!!!!!

Yelp
We didn't stay here, but my in-laws did. The location is A+, you couldn't ask for a better view. They had a cute room with beautiful wooden floors that had small windows that opened up to see the water. My MIL actually watched a marriage proposal one evening. The bar/restaurant in the lobby did not have great service. Each night we would have to go find a server just to get a drink. They would never come back to see if we wanted another. A lot of money was lost because we like to drink :-) The breakfast spread is HUGE. We ate there each more and always made our own waffles. The only negative I can give the breakfast was that they don't cook their eggs enough, they were very runny. Staff members were friendly and accommodating. This is a great place to stay in Ghent.

Yelp
I have stayed for a business trip in Ghent and we choose the Marriott for accommodation. The hotel is a nice combination of an old to townhouse and new, modern glass parts with a huge atrium. The hotel has its own garage, which is absolutely needed, because parking space n the center of Ghent is rare. The price, 30€ per night, is too expensive from my point of view, but normal when you compare it with other hotels. The staff was friendly and helpful. My room was clean. It seemed that some things a e not working in the room or, at least need some refurbishment. For example: I had 2 telephones in my room, both were not connected to the system. The reception told me one evening that I had 2 messages on my mailboxes, but when connecting the telephone to the system, I realized that the mailboxes were empty and the phone was constantly calling me. A colleague of mine slept in a room where she couldn't turn of air conditioning, so the staff provided here a heater. These are things which should not happen for a room rate of 188€. An interesting approach takes the hotel with the breakfast. You can choose between the standard buffet, buffet without hot items and a normal small breakfast which is brought to your table. Overall, I liked the hotel very much and also the staff, but they need to work on their rooms and the equipment in there.

Yelp
Excellent hotel. Staff very attentive. Rooms modern. Wifi super fast. Excellent location.

Yelp
Stayed here for 1 night. Standard rooms. The hotel doesn't have a lounge so as plat I received free breakfast. at the hotel restaurant which had amazing outdoor seating by the canal. The breakfast was a great spread. They do omelettes on request. Staff was helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
google avatar

Steven D.

Yelp
This review is for their breakfast only. We happened to be staying at the brand new Hotel Reylof nearby but wanted a bit more of a view for breakfast. It was a self serve buffet style breakfast with every kind of bread, cheese, cold cuts and jams imaginable. (They even had spreadable 'speculoos'). While we had a spectacular view of the Graslei markt place and the canal (we sat right at a window)- the price was a bit steep. It cost us 46€ for two. A bit pricey for a buffet breakfast. But who cares, right? You only live once and this is one place you want to eat breakfast with a nice view of a very beautiful city.
google avatar

S. K.

Yelp
Great hotel in ideal location. We got upgraded to a canal view room and was welcomed by the view of the Belfry tower when waking up. If you're staying in Gent, treat yourself and pay a little extra to stay here. The location, service, and amenities are well worth it.

Andre D.

Yelp
The hotel is fine but the problem is the noisy music and the awful muzak they play at the same time. You should be prepared for loud music at weekends during parties and concerts. I stopped going there because of this.

Will L.

Yelp
Where to begin? The location is as good as it gets in Ghent. It is a bit of a walk / drive from the train station (would definitely take a cab), but it puts you right where you want to be. The pictures online don't do it justice, but the view of the canal and the main historic sites in Ghent are incredible. The staff is very friendly. We arrived early and dropped off our luggage. The employee who checked us in had great recommendations on places to go and things to see. While we were putting on sun screen and getting ready to head out for the day, another employee stopped by to say hello and make sure we had everything we needed. Definitely not something I expect from most hotel staffers. The staff did everything they could to make sure our trip to Ghent got off to a great start, and it was apparent how much they love the hotel and their city. I just wish we had had more than one day to spend in the hotel.
