Gindaco Takoyaki

Great price for delicious takoyaki! The staff are absolutely lovely and each takoyaki had a beautiful crisp exterior with a nice soft center. Each takoyaki also had a generous cut of octopus.

This was actually more enticing than anything in Tsukiji Market for me! Good value for 6 huge takoyaki. You see them making them in the kitchen so you can see the many ingredients that go in (clever move by the store). Tasty and worth lining up for.

Tsukiji Gindaco has become a tourist hotspot, often surrounded by foreign visitors fascinated by the live takoyaki cooking behind glass - a bold choice for the staff. While the variety of sauces adds variety, the prices have clearly shifted to match the tourist-heavy locations. Service is rushed, and the overall atmosphere feels more like a tour stop than a local takeaway.

I passed by their shop in Tsukiji but counter was full so I opted to skip but then encountered their pop up store at the Mitsukoshi Ginza. The menu was also in English so less hassle and guessing 😀. There were several interesting options at different price ranges. I chose the chili prawns and they were yummy😋. 3 prawns on a bed of chili sauce with ginger? shreds topped the balls that were delicately crisp on the outside with a soft 2nd layer and the surprise center filling. Absolutely delicious. Half portion made for a wonderful snack.

This place had a line before it opened, which created some excitement. The takoyaki was okay. The chef cooking was very fast serving. The cashier was also quick preparing the sauces for the different types of takoyaki ordered. Overall, I wasn’t impressed and wouldn’t recommend.

I was on my way to Tsukiji outer market when I passed in front of this takoyaki restaurant, I was not disappointed. I ordered the chicken teriyaki takoyaki to go. It was so fresh and full of flavor, I tried takoyaki at several other places in Tokyo for the week that I was there and nothing could match it. I would recommend this location.

Family had to try the takoyaki and we sure did. Had several different ones and we all liked it. It's not for everyone maybe, and maybe not everyday, but worth a try. Very nice service and sitting in front of the cook (separated by a window) was fun too.
