I wrote a previous review based on in-car dining experience.
On this occasion, it's my Birthday, and wanted to come and dine-in at Ginger, having had such beautiful food from them last time.
We had made a reservation, and were greeted very nicely by the hostess, and taken to a table - it would not have been my 1st choice for a table, as it was kind of behind a barrier. Husband looked a bit disgruntled by it to be honest. Our server offered to seat us at another table, but we'd already gotten settled by then - but I'm giving her extra points for offering.
I got a house-made ginger ale, which caused great consternation when i elected to have it with no ice. It was recommended that i have it on ice. I told them that, as an English person, our default is "no ice in drinks" yeah yeah #sorrynotsorry #ilikewhatilike and she brought it with no ice for me, but also brought some ice in a glass *just in case* I'm just saying, it was perfect as is, un-iced.
I ordered the strawberry chili salad, which has candied walnuts, strawberries, onions, butter leaf hearts in a sweet chili cilantro dressing - the dressing was to die for, however, I'd have liked a bigger salad. I also ordered the Pommes Frites - another Englishism - in England, salad and fries often come together as your side, and i love them served together, and I do in fact dump my fries on top of my salad. They each enhance the other's flavours. The Pommes Frites are served with a Wasabi Aioli dip. Last time i had this dip, the wasabi wasn't nearly as noticeable, but on this occasion, it was a better nostril hit. I love wasabi, and it was evident in the aioli. Not overpowering but you knew it was there.
Husband got the Panang Beef Curry. May i just say - it was absolutely fantastic, and I'll be having it next time. He let me try some, while he bummed some of my fries, and i did not want to hand it back to him. Absolutely superbly balanced flavours in that sauce, creamy, yet tangy, richly layered, and addictive. I know I will be dreaming about it, till i can go back and have some all to myself. The beef was tender. The vegetables, mushrooms, peanuts, bean sprouts - all retained texture, and were cooked perfectly. This tasted highly authentic to me. Panang is something i often get in Thai restaurants, but this has BY FAR been my favourite. The complexity of the flavour. Perfectly seasoned. Excellent vegetable texture. Superb.
As you know (if you read my reviews) I'm not a dessert person, i rarely eat sweet things. I can get fat really well on savoury alone. There was a tempting sounding bananas foster egg roll. When i eat a dessert, it will almost always be banana based. But still, i was too full. If i ever get a dessert here, it will be that one.
Service was excellent, and very attentive. The food came out pretty fast.
Love it.
