I had a wonderful two night stay at the gingerbread manor. The location was perfect to be able to access all aspects of the old city of Montreal. Although I did not use the metro, they are very close to it. The room and bathroom were spotless and exactly as described. Check in was simple and communication was extremely clear. Yves and Ephraim were wonderful hosts The breakfast was delicious and there were many options beyond the entree. They were happy to provide information as needed. Everything in the house is clearly marked in multiple languages and AC keeps it comfy. There are many nice touches to make it feel like home. I can’t imagine staying in a big corporate hotel when you can stay in a historic home with lovely hosts.

Absolutely loved my stay at this BnB! The house itself is beautiful and it is in a lovely neighborhood , right beside a nice park. Lots of shops and restaurants nearby, and very close to entertainment like the orchestra which is what I was there for. The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful as this was my first time in Montreal. Breakfast was delicious and I looked forward to it every morning, it was also fun to meet and chat with the other guests during breakfast. My room was very comfortable and had everything I needed. Definitely will be booking here again if I get a chance to return to Montreal!

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Gingerbread Manor! The hosts were very kind and accommodating. They are pleasant to talk to. The room and bathroom were very clean and the bed was comfortable. The location is a good walk to Downtown Montreal and Chinatown. We would definitely return and highly recommend that you stay here.

After staying at the Gingerbread Manor, I feel the quality of my stay didn't match the mostly 5-star reviews I saw on Google. The Frontenac room was large, clean and comfortable. I was hesitant about sharing a bathroom with other guests but generally, it rarely posed an issue. However, the ceiling creaked quite heavily and regularly, with the upstairs guests' every footstep. It was pretty loud and disruptive. I had to sleep with earplugs every night. The breakfasts were fairly disappointing. The prepared food was stingily portioned and pretty greasy. For example, they served what they called a Spanish "torta"(I think they meant Spanish tortilla) The egg was severely overcooked while the potato was almost raw. There were other food options like yogurt and cereal to supplement the disappointing hot breakfast but the reason I stay at bed and breakfasts is to enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal. This place just missed the mark for me. My final disappointment was with the B&B owners. Initially, I found their demeanor pleasantly quirky but it soon became overbearing and invasive. Some of the comments and jokes made by the owners at breakfast could be condescending or inappropriate. For example, they talked negatively about other guests staying at the B&B. And some of their jokes I felt were of poor taste and made myself and other guests feel uncomfortable. Overall, I felt there was a general lack of maturity and professionalism. The staff could benefit from some basic hospitality training.

Stay at Gingerbread Manor if you enjoy unique architecture, a charming neighborhood, excellent breakfast that will accommodate dietary needs, generosity of hosts, on-site parking for a fee (worth it!), wonderful walking. ||Our hosts were very helpful in giving out information. One particularly kind and cheery. The other was gruff, snide, and long-winded. One example: He got mad at us for not knowing how to use the door access code when we first arrived. He also shared how other guests had commented in not so favorable ways and what he thought of them. Thus, I initially felt scared to post my true feelings here, but decided as a paying customer it is in my rights to share them.

This is a wonderful B&B. The hosts are friendly, welcoming and helpful. The rooms are great - big and bright. Having a parking spot on site was very helpful as street parking for overnight is risky since it's permit parking, Breakfasts were delicious and we met some other lovely guests. Transit is a 5 minute walk away and the neighbourhood is beautiful. We will definitely come back here.

Stayed 2 days at Gingerbread Manor in June. The structure is a narrow, Victorian style structure built on 3 floors. There is a narrow, steep staircase covered by a worn carpet. It was a struggle to carry our suitcases to the top floor and the room was musty, stuffy and without an abundance of natural light. The heavy double hung window would not stay open and we had to rely on the airconditioner for ventilation. We could not adjust the temperature, only the fan speed. The 2 beds we had been promised turned out to be 1 queen bed and a child's cot with a thin mattress. My 32 year-old son had an uncomfortable night on the cot (photo). We had high expectations for the breakfast but they were soon dispelled. The coffee was weak, the cereal selection poor, and the hot meal was just french toast. The hosts were unaccommodating towards any other requests. My son asked for an egg and was told it's 'not on the menu'. The next morning, the hot meal was spinach quiche which was equally unappetising. Overall, we were not impressed with the quality of the accomodations or the breakfast and we did not detect much warmth, friendliness or hospitality in the attitude of our hosts- Ephrom and Yves

This place is incredible! If you're looking for a wonderful, peaceful escape, look no further. It's located in a beautiful neighborhood, Plateau-Mont Royal and close to Mile End. It's also close to the Sherbrooke metro stop, so getting around Montreal is very easy. Ephraim and Yves are helpful, thoughful, and full of bad jokes. They make you feel comfortable, answer all your questions and are ready to talk on a wide variety of topics from history to politics. The breakfasts were all amazing, with lots of choices and plenty of coffee. The house has beautiful woodwork (there is no elevator, so be aware!) and the rooms are furnished nicely. We had the Frontenac room which was spacious and has a window seat and table where we enjoyed many a bottle of wine. Our room shared a bathroom with one other room. The bathroom was large, clean and full of everything you need--from shampoo and lotion to cotton balls, band-aids and mouthwash. We loved every minute of our stay and plan to return!

Yelp
Location location location. Located in Old Montreal a few steps to a beautiful public park and a few more to the Metro Station. The hosts were engaging and welcoming, Breakfast was good. An electric car charger is located in the garage for a small extra charge. The room was too warm for me so slept with only the sheet. Noticed an AC unit in the large closet, presumably for summer use. Instructions for checking in, accessing garage arrival arrangements were all more complicated than necessary.

Yelp
"Consider this hotel as a glass of fine, aged wine: not entirely predictable, not suitable to be drank fast, but rewarding for anyone taking their time to savour. " Just a bite from our full experience review!

Yelp
Intimate, comfortable, classy, and tasteful all come to mind in word association to describe the delightful B&B experience known as Gingerbread Manor. Everything from the hosts and food to the furniture and decorations sum up to a first class experience that simply surpasses that at every hotel I have stayed at. I contemplated posting photos of the delightful interior of the Gingerbread Manor, but in doing so, I would simply be ruining the surprise for the handful of people who might stumble upon this review. We booked a room with a private bath (de Maisonneuve) which was equipped with all the amenities one needs. The bed was comfortable to the point where it was hard to simply get out it each morning during the days we were there. Every morning, we were served breakfast by Ephraim. Each meal was complemented by a parfait starter and mini-desserts. It must be said that the coffee was excellent. But besides the quality of the food, the experience would not be the same without Yves and Ephraim. While we were out and about every day, we didn't have much of a chance to see Yves. Yves was the first to greet us upon arrival to make us feel at home. We spent most of our days chatting with Ephraim, who was a terrific host that I would liken to be a "walking Wikipedia" for everything Montreal. Our morning conversations were long and engaging covering topics from culinary arts and political science to music and technology. His restaurant recommendations were refreshingly honest and we never made a bad choice. He has my heartfelt gratitude for the introduction to the heart-attack inducing Canadian dish of poutine! The lovely Gingerbread Manor is a five-star experience. The hosts run a first-class operation, which is reflected in their personality and ability to make their guests feel right at home. I have no need to try any other B&B or any hotel the next time I return to Montreal. I might not even go back to Montreal if a room at Gingerbread Manor is not available.

Yelp
My husband and I spent three nights at the Gingerbread Manor last week. From the perfectly detailed emailed instructions for self check in and car parking, to extra pillows upon request, hosts Ephraim and Yves could not have been more helpful or hospitable. Location in Le Plateau- superb. Breakfasts- delicious and varied. We loved meeting other guests and sharing stories around the vintage dining room table. Montreal was having a heat wave (kind of a continent-wide heat wave actually) and our room's AC worked great. To Ephraim and Yves- thanks for the fun stay and for all your excellent tips about places to eat and things to do. In our opinion, Gingerbread Manor B+B is world class. We shall return chez vous. Merci beaucoup!

Yelp
My husband and I came to Montreal for along weekend away. After some trouble getting in touch with another bed and breakfast, I read the excellent reviews for the Gingerbread Manor and contacted them. The hosts immediately got back to me and were polite and professional. Upon arrival, the hosts ushered us to our gorgeous room and gave me instructions on how to park my car in the optimal garage. I HIGHLY recommend booking the garage; so much is walkable from the Gingerbread Manor that we didn't use the car again until we returned home. The room was huge, with vaulted ceilings, crown mounding, and it's own bay window with sitting area. The available Roku with the tv provided music and entertainment and we enjoyed playing cards in the room one afternoon. Breakfast was more than ample and quite delicious. My husband is a celiac and the hosts prepared gluten-free options for him that were delectable. Over all, breakfast was one of the best meals of the day. I cannot recommend the Gingerbread Manor enough. The hosts were professional, kind, and very helpful.

Yelp
Location is very good. Within waling distance to many restaurants and stores. Best part of it is the location. Room was fine, bathroom was fine. We had no problems with our stay. Yves is such a nice guy. I can't say enough nice things about Yves. Breakfast was pretty good. But I am NOT a morning person so I could do without the seemingly mandatory lecture from Ephraim while I am trying to have my morning coffee. Breakfast food was good but I did not know it was going to come with a morning monologue. For me this took the stay from a 4 1/2-star to a 2-star rating for me.

Yelp
This B&B is truly wonderful! Just got back from a long weekend in Montreal with my boyfriend and we stayed here; it was a lovely experience. It is situated on a quaint street near many shops and restaurants, with a metro station around the corner. The house itself is a brownstone style house with a lot of character. The men that run the place, Ephraim and Yves, are great. They make any accommodations they can to make your stay comfortable and pleasant. We had vegans, vegetarians and gluten free requirements at a single breakfast, but it was not a problem here! Ephraim is a passionate and talented chef, you won't be disappointed. Before going out at night, we would ask for recommendations about where to go to eat. Like another reviewer said, these guys know their food! The recommendations they made were stellar, and they provide a lot of knowledge and insight into the city. We stayed in de Maisonneuve, the only room with a private bath. It was a great room, with one of the most comfortable beds I have had the pleasure of sleeping in! Everything was so clean. The bathroom for those that shared was large, with a separate toilet area, so next time I stay I wouldn't mind if I do have a shared bath. All the rooms looked nice. As this was my first time in Montreal, I don't think I could have found a better place to stay. Staying at the Gingerbread Manor helped make my experience what it was.

Yelp
Stayed here for 2 nights with my girlfriend. Everything was clean, spacious, and well decorated, the hosts were funny, entertaining, and knowledgeable, and the location was phenomenal for all the tourist attractions (for the far ones, the metro is 2 blocks away) and the Plateau as well. I wanted to give my girlfriend a taste of Montreal (where I used to live), and knew that a bland chain-hotel simply wouldn't give her the experience. Everything about this B+B was pure Montreal, from the hosts (one francophone, one anglophone, both hilarious) to the decor and food (the food, by the way, awesome). The hosts were awesome, even letting us into the room when we arrived early, and they made everything from parking to getting in the front door late at night very easy! Can't say enough about it, we will definitely return next time we visit Montreal!

Yelp
Got to spend 2 amazing nights here which made our Montreal trip really special. Wonderful hosts, well furnished room. The hosts were both very open and knowledgeable about the surrounding area and highlights in the city of Montreal. We had an awesome stay and ended up renting their bikes for a day full of cycling around and exploring. Check this place out when staying in Montreal!

Yelp
We stayed here last winter. The place is in an excellent location close to the train and within walking distance from some major attractions. We found our room to be comfortable and the inn keepers are pleasant and helpful. We got some excellent restaurant recommendations. These guys really know their restaurants! We definitely enjoyed the homemade breakfast . The covered parking in the back of the street is a great advantage especially during the winter. We would recommend reserving a parking spot. We stayed in the Wolfe & Montcalm room and it was comfortable and practical. It doesn't have space to sit around so basically plan on sleeping or going out--this isn't the type of place in which you'll want to hang out in the room and we weren't planning to. On the down side we were disappointed with the lack of a common area. It basically means that you are limited to your room which is quite small. We also could have used bathrobes, especially since we were sharing a bathroom with another room (the private bathroom rooms were already booked). Overall, we liked this bed and breakfast a lot. The keepers were friendly but not awkward and provided great advice and recommendations. We strongly recommend the Gingerbread Manor for your (short) stay in Montreal.

Yelp
I loved staying at this place! I was in town for a conference and two friends and I stayed here. Our room was large, comfortable, and charming. I loved the huge bay window and details of the house. The owners Yves and Ephraim made us a huge, delicious breakfast everyday. During my stay there I had coconut lime pancakes, apple blintzes, and an asparagus omelette. The Gingerbread is located on lovely residential street and is an easy 20 minute walk to the Convention Center. I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
We had a lovely stay at this bed and breakfast. We choose the room with the balcony and shared bathroom. Initially, we were weary of the prospect of sharing a bathroom with strangers but found that our worries were unfounded. The bathroom was well stocked and kept well cleaned. Bathrobes helped with the walk across the hall. The room was cozy and simple but just what we needed. We enjoyed our early breakfasts and conversions with Yves and Ephraim. They were very welcoming, kind, and conversational. They were also helpful in setting us up with a dinner reservation on the night we had arrived.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I spent two nights at this wonderful little bed and breakfast. Everything was perfect, from the arrangements that were made in advance of our arrival to the warm hospitality we received while there, and even the follow up notes after we had left. We knew that we would be getting in late, around midnight, and the owners were kind enough to set us up with access to our reserved garage parking space and entrance into our private room all in advance. As we walked up the stoop to the front door there was even a welcome note in the window for us! To our pleasant surprise we had been upgraded to the Frontenac Room, a spacious abode on the second floor with a huge bed, a TV, DVD player, a sitting area and a daybed, and even little gingerbread cookies and mints waiting for us. A wonderful late-night snack after hours on the road! The decor was beautiful with a deep red and gold theme. Everything was immaculate and the bed sheets and comforter were both soft and cozy, and I loved wrapping myself up in them each night. The house is on a quiet street right in the heart of Montreal, with walking distance to the Latin Quarter, downtown, some of the more eclectic sides of town such as Rue St. Denis, Rue Saint Lawrence and Saint Lawrence Square, and Rue Jean Talon. We were also quite close to the metro station, as well as the main road, Sherbrooke, for driving around to Mount Royal and the Botanical Gardens. Our hosts, Ephraim and Yves, were fabulous cooks, and always sent us off at the beginning of the day with a huge homemade breakfast topped off with some of the richest, strongest coffee that I have ever had. On our first morning they served us buttery French Toast with real maple syrup and on our second morning we had homemade fruit blintzes, quite a treat, with the perfect blend of savory and sweet. They also gave excellent directions to nearby local points of interests. When we checked out, they also wrote down on a map for us turn-by-turn directions back to the highway. I would definitely go back, and really, truly enjoyed my stay. There were so many other little touches, as well, such as a spotless shared bathroom with full amenities, including makeup remover towelettes, Q-tips, cotton balls, nail polish remover, soap, shampoo, and conditioner. I loved the wide shower head and the strong water pressure - so relaxing to look forward to after a long day of walking around. There was also cable, free WiFi, and even though we did not personally participate, bicycles to rent per day for very reasonable prices. When asked their advice for a place to have dinner, they not only recommended their own personal favorite in the city, but even made the reservations for us and confirmed upon our return that we were treated well and got the insider's discount. Quite the personal service. We were both impressed and delighted by the time we spent at both the Gingerbread Manor and in the city of Montreal itself, and miss them both so much already.

Yelp
Well once again I am overwhelmed by the superb service that I received during my stay at the Gingerbread Manor. As promised, that when I come to Montreal this B&B will be my home away from home. I have an extremely hectic schedule and I needed to prepare for certifications/licensing, etc. for my new employer. I decided to go to a place that I knew I could obtain the focus I needed to study as well as have all my amenities of home. That was why I picked Gingerbread Manor Bed and Breakfast. They respected my need for privacy and quiet as well as they were very helpful in suggesting were I should go for dinner and various other entertainment venues. I applaud their continued effort for excellence. I think sometimes I work hard so that I can take time off to be pampered at the whimsical Gingerbread Manor. FYI - And as a result of my purpose for studing. I did pass my certification requirements. Thanks!! Ephraim and Yve

Yelp
My husband and I wanted a place to stay in Montreal that was in a convenient location for concerts and other cultural opportunities downtown. We also wanted something unique with a special flair. We were very happy with our stay at Gingerbread Manor. The rooms are pleasant, clean, warm (in the November chill), quiet and comfortable. Ephraim and Yves were impeccable hosts with great recommendations, fun stories and delightful breakfasts. The building is a lovely renovated Victorian house with lots of character. The garage spot which we rented was highly convenient, allowing us not to drive in this rather confusing urban space. Moreover, when our car battery died the morning of our departure, Ephraim happily gave us a courtesy jump so that we could make our way on time. We plan to be back next year!

Yelp
Had a wonderful stay. The place is clean and tidy and the gentlemen are very helpful and accommodating to our needs. They even went out of their way to help us locate an item we wanted from a store. They also helped us find restaurants and even cooked gluten free breakfast items for us. The location is wonderful as well.
