Great store. Great knowledge. Decent prices and such a variety. It's a great small business to support. But your plants here!

Google
My go-to garden store in DC! Great place to go for all your gardening needs and you’re shopping local (instead of those big box stores). Great selection of annuals and perennials.

Wow. Wow. Wow. What a treat to find on a visit in the city. Never did I think so much could be packed into such a space! Any and everything hanging from the ceiling, the cutest little pots and planters and everything in between. I got some seeds, chunky mix and bamboo by the stick. The upstairs and outside hold plants galore, can’t wait to return

Wonderful selection, great service, adorable cat! What more could you ask for??? Also while waiting for our uber, an employee noticed us being attacked by mosquitoes and brought us bug spray. 11/10!

Bought our Christmas tree there this year. After experiencing not so great service at a nearby gardening center, it was a refreshing change to shop at Ginkgo. We received friendly and genuinely caring service. Plus our tree is beautiful! Highly recommend.

Helped me appraise my fav houseplant after it was damaged for a home insurance claim. They are always so knowledgeable and so helpful. Favorite DMV gardening center!

As a repeat customer of Ginkgo Garden in Washington DC, I'm sad to say that my most recent visit has ensured I won't be returning. The experience started poorly when I noticed three employees assisting a single customer while others, including myself, waited for help. This seemed inefficient and unfair. After browsing for a while, I approached the register, where I waited patiently for 10 minutes to make my purchase. An older white male employee was working the counter. Just as it seemed to be my turn, he blatantly skipped over me to serve two older white women who had just arrived. When I finally interacted with this employee, he was rude and dismissive. His behavior made me feel unwelcome and disrespected as a customer. It's unfortunate that poor customer service and what appeared to be discriminatory treatment have ruined my relationship with this nursery. There are plenty of other options in the DC area for garden supplies, and I'll be taking my business elsewhere from now on.

Google
My first impression of this place is that it's a garden where plants are available to be taken home. The outdoor space is absolutely brimming with happy plants of all sizes so much do that it spills out onto the sidewalk out front. The indoor space has two levels. The second level is accessible by stairs and has a very lovely balcony with more plants and outdoor furnishings. I didn't notice an ADA option to ascend. It would likely be a tough store to navigate anyhow with such narrow aisles all around. Parking is available on the street. Read the signs because some spots are affected by the school nearby. They had a great variety of planters from basic nursery plastic to ceramic and even brushed metal. As you can imagine the nice ones are pricey as are the larger plants. Furnishings and racks can also be purchased here. They even have terrarium components. Literally whatever you may need for basic indoor and outdoor gardening is under this roof. Go check it out!

Yelp
I love visiting ginkgo's! They always have a great selection of horticulture and very fair prices. Even if I'm not looking for something specific, it's nice to wander around and view their collection. They also have plants upstairs and on the deck when it's nice out. I've purchased plants and soil multiple times. This is my first choice for all things garden and plants.

Yelp
Tucked away on 11th Street SE near the highway, Gingko Gardens is a truly local spot. Whenever residents on Capitol Hill are working on their landscaping and gardens, they go here. During the pandemic, they are limited customers inside, but the flow is quick. The outdoor space is open for people to come and go as they please. The outdoor space is where they have the bulk of their flowers, herbs, plants and bushes. They even have more plants in the alley in the back and in the backyard of the owners next door. The indoor space has pots, more plants and garden decorations. The staff are helpful and very knowledgeable.

Yelp
I cannot express how much I LOVE Ginkgo Gardens. I live in Navy Yard and it is a struggle to find seeds and garden supplies here. Just about a ten minute walk from Navy Yard, this Capitol Hill garden center is the BEST. There are a few others in the area, but in my opinion, Ginkgos blows them all out of the water. Especially if you are looking for edible plants (herbs, fruits, veg), you must purchase them here! Especially in comparison to a few other local garden centers, they are super affordable. I'm so excited to stop in again soon!

Yelp
I've been wanting to stop by and try this place for a while and saw they had an anniversary sale sign. I was very disappointed - there was not a great selection, plants were meh, there was no discount and it was overpriced and people were not friendly. Won't be back.

Yelp
I am by no means a plant collector but rather an admirer of plants and plant collectors. However, over the past year I've definitely picked up quite a few smaller plants that have flourished thus deepening my appreciation for plants. Once I realized that one was outgrowing their original pot, I figured it was time to drop by Ginkgo because admittedly I think I was getting by pretty luckily, just watering without any real knowledge about what they may need beyond that. Upon walking into the outdoor nursery, I was already in love! So much to look at, but inside and outside. Seriously, seems like every inch of this place is adorned with lush greenery, both delicate and strapping. There are two floors to explore and the staff here are all so friendly and knowledge. Just even the short time that I spent shopping, put me at ease while in their space. I look forward to adding to my collection and returning here soon!

Yelp
Just wanna start by saying...I've recently become a new plant mom and this place has probably fueled my new found love for house plants. I used to think I could only have cacti and aloe plants (which are not as easy to care for as one might think) so was never interested in some of the more diverse types of plants. WELL...I bought bought my first non-succulent from here in December and now have close to 30+ plants (I acknowledge that I have a problem...and I'm working on it. But at least I'm not buying drugs). BUT on to the good stuff. Reasons I've become obsessed with this nursery: - the staff is pretty knowledgeable. When i explained my initial fear of stepping into plant momming, there was a woman who helped me pick out the perfect plant whose needs aligned to my crazy work schedule (I cant remember her name, but I'll update this review when I go back). Every time I go back, she has another awesome recommendation and provides tips on how I should care for them. - they have a decent variety of plants from aloe plants, pothos, succulents, philodendrons, ferns, dracaeneas, herbs, etc (did you peep how I listed all those plant types?!?!? GROWTH)! All the popular ones are there for sure (monsteras, fiddle leaf fig, snake plants) and some unique ones that I don't see too often. - the store is just super cute. Like you literally walk in and just feel happy! I literally love it! There is an upstairs, that a lot of people don't know about. Everything is just adorable in there - you can request a specific plant and they'll call you when they get one in! I've picked up 2 plants this way and am waiting on two more (string of pearls and a baby monstera) - they have a great outdoor plant selection (not my thing but it's there) and plants which flower (again, not my thing). My ONLY gripe with this place is the planter selection. It's always recommended to get planters with drainage holes but most of the cute planters don't have them. So I always struggle trying to find sleek / modern planters with appropriate drainage holes. They have a surplus of terra-cotta pots and other cute ones with holes...but the cute ones don't have drainage holes. I don't know if that's the norm for plant nurseries in general or just specific to this one. Wait...one more minor gripe, it's a bit pricey. BUT worth it. Okay, I've said enough. I LOVE it here. I have to refrain from going so much because I'll literally buy the entire store. Stop in, walk around, ask some questions...YOULL LOVE IT!

Yelp
Small neighborhood plant shop. They have a variety of plants indoor and outdoor , big or small. I got a few of my plant babies from here. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. It can be busy at times especially near closing but they make sure everything works out. As of late they get new plants on Tuesday\Wednesday. I'd recommend if you're looking for new plants or gardening materials. They are on the pricey side but it's DC .... What do you expect.

Mark T.

Yelp
I don't go there often but I always enjoy what is on display and often buy indoor plants or exterior plantings. Some prices are reasonable. Some are not. Overall, the pricing is fair.

Yelp
I came determined to buy herbs and vegetables I could grow from my patio. At first, I was a bit intimidated because I clearly hadn't don't much research but I quickly found an employee who answered all my questions, pointed me to the right products and even took a look at an orchid I've been keeping alive for years without reblooming. Great team and selection!

Yelp
This place is absolutely fabulous. The customer service is great and they have quality plants. I'm new to the area and needed plants for my apartment. Matt was super helpful in guiding my decisions and accommodating when I had issues (my fault, not theirs). I appreciate the personal touch, timely delivery, quality plants and great selection. Do not go to any other nursery. Ginkgo Gardens is the best.

Cory N.

Yelp
This place is the coolest. I have a greenhouse and needed hundreds of plastic pots to grow starts. Ginko Gardens sells their used containers, a great way to avoid waste and promote reuse! The also have a great seed selection for you urban farmers and are on of the only nurseries in the area that LABEL THEIR NATIVES! As we all work to repair the damaging decisions of past generations, landscape restoration is so much easier when you don't have to google every single plant you come across to see it's native range. Thanks Ginko for doing the hard work for us!

Yelp
I absolutely had an amazing time shopping there. Actually went on a date and we stopped there first bc he knew I lo r gardening. Wow. I already planted the plants. I'm in love with that store and will be back. I'll add photos later.

Yelp
I went to this place, really nice area. There nice area outside the store and Two floors of plants. So this store kinda have various plants! I have seen lot nice plants, and they're mostly bushy looking kind of plants. Very healthy plants, as they're cautions to water their plants. This store have various plants like succulents and trailing plants, many soft foliage plants like topicals plants, many other basic houseplants. My favorite part about this store is they have more topical plants upstairs, that give off a cool vibe like you're entering jungle! Which is pro point for nice media profile pic! Hehe. This store is where I brought my strings of turtles! I have been looking for this plant while and so happy to find one from this store! Thank you Ginkgo Garden!
google avatar

Marci H.

Yelp
Great place to shop. Convenient and they have just about anything you need for your garden. Five Stars!
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
It was well priced and had a ton of selections. There was an upstairs, downstairs and an upstairs above the upstairs, it was great. I didn't feel sticker shock at any time. If you wanted to start a garden the size of a small city you'd find everything you need here. And parking was super easy if you have transport.

Yelp
Plant paradise! Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, I found my favorite place to indulge my plant obsession. Ginko Gardens offers an array of plants, trees, pots, and supplies to fulfill a plant lover's dream. And I fell in love with their store after visiting twice not even realizing that in addition to an outdoor area and the indoor first floor, that they had more plants in the back room off the first floor AND a wonderful selection of trees upstairs! Clay, ceramic, and grow pots are available in addition to fertilizer and other supplies. Prices are reasonable. The staff is always welcoming and very helpful. Parking is easy enough along the street.
google avatar

Yelp
I'll start off by saying I don't know much about plants, so my points of comparison to Ginkgo Gardens are limited. But I got some house plants at my housewarming earlier this year and have managed to keep them alive, and I figured I'd better get some fertilizer and things if I want to keep them going strong in 2020. Several of my green thumb friends recommended this place. I was surprised at how expansive it is inside! There is a whole upstairs section with more plants and--in my opinion--nicer looking pots and house plants than downstairs. Downstairs has soil and fertilizer and plant labels and a whole bunch of things that I don't know the purpose of but that I'm sure are important in successfully growing plants that have complex needs. The staff were helpful in pointing me in the right direction and advising on things like which type of soil or mulch to buy. The gentleman who greeted me also told me about the free plastic pots in the back alley--these aren't "display on your mantle" pots but rather "good for hiding inside of a larger pot because they have a drain hole" pots. Pretty sure this is my new plant place. Well, my first plant place. Whatever, it works for me!

Yelp
I have a fig tree that tends to take over whenever it can. I have had it pruned many times, but this year I hired Gingko Gardens to do it. They did a great job--they struck to my specifications and also trimmed another tree in my yard. Their clean-up was above and beyond what was needed. I would recommend any time.

Dilip R.

Yelp
Our experience with this generally well regarded company has been mixed. The design consultant was responsive and knowledgeable. The installation was timely but they do not follow up to see how the project turned out. Our grass grew spottily and, although they returned to reseed and provided some seed for us to keep, there was not much pride in seeing the outcome. For a community based landscape company, I expected a little more.

Yelp
aesthetically pleasing and peaceful place to browse and explore. a little urban oasis. fantastic selection of plants. also seeds, fountains, wind chimes-- you name it! family owned business since 2000 or so. employees are friendly, upbeat, and super helpful. they helped me procure a 10 foot paw paw tree! well worth the drive, but wish I was a little closer. can't wait till i have an excuse to go back!

Yelp
Gingko Gardens is, hands down, the best nursery in the area. I come here about every other week to just admire the plants--the inventory changes constantly, so there's always something new to look at. The staff is also incredibly helpful. I once narrowly missed a plant that had been on my wishlist for a while, and they were happy to take my name down and give me a call when they restocked. I got the plant today and couldn't be more thrilled with the quality!!
google avatar

Louise J.

Yelp
So disappointed. Went in to have one outdoor planter repotted for winter and to have basic clean up of postage sized front yard. Asked for two basic things-- No purple and yard/pot to be pretty. They did clean up yard but didn't even add mulch as it was not needed. The pot is anything but pretty. The price was outrageous. They were there for 1.5 hours, replanted one put and charged almost $500. When I went to complain and ask that they return and add some height, etc. to the planter, they were rude, told me I got what I asked for and sent another invoice. I had given them a $230 deposit and would never recommend nor use them again. Very sad that they do not stand behind their work nor are they interested in customer satisfaction

Yelp
Ginkgo has so many options - I could spend a good hour there. The herb and flower selection are fun to sort through. Good local option for newbies and plant lovers.
google avatar

Natalie S.

Yelp
I have never been to a more unpleasant and rude store in my life. All of the staff (like 8) were walking around and ignoring everyone. Ew. I'll never go back.
google avatar

Kelly D.

Yelp
All time favorite nursery thus far. The staff (except the cashier) was well informed about plant care and which plant is the best match for you. Pro tip: be mindful where you're walking and stepping on b/c man, it's a jungle in there. So much variety and reasonably priced. I found a pilea which has been super popular for under $20 (about $17-$18) and mind you, I found a smaller, sadder one in California for $30!!!!!!!! Only downside was I wish they had more pots (that's just because I LOVE finding new pots to home my plants in) but the pots they had were all very different and there were some really cute unique ones (giraffes, clay, china glass styled, etc) They also have an upstairs!!!! Excited for my new babies.
google avatar

Liz P.

Yelp
Had an itch to repot my succulents and check out a local garden shop.. so I found Ginkgo Gardens. Wow this place is SO BEAUTIFUL. I didn't expect to find so many plants & pots at this tiny place - but I ended up roaming and shopping for much longer than expected. They have gorgeous planters for reasonable prices as well as various plants for sale. I just wanted a succulent and I was able to find the perfect one! There weren't THAT many options, but enough if you want to be picky. I bought 3 new planters and a baby succulent.. but I'll probably be back around.
google avatar

Yelp
Love Ginkgo gardens! Always a good selection of house plants, nice terracotta pots in all sizes at a great price, and the people here are always super helpful. A great place to stop if you're looking for new houseplants or supplies!!
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
Recently expanded, I just love the vibe of this place. There's a wonderful selection of plants and plant-related accessories, and the prices are very good. It's so cozy too. I can imagine just standing in here to soak up the energy.
google avatar

Kate A.

Yelp
Based on my experience I would suggest that you visit earlier in the day for the best pickings as when I visited there were slimmer pickings and it appears that they may not put out more plants as the day goes on/things are taken. I had my eye on a ZZ plant that by the time I went around the store to see all that they had for indoor plants, that particular ZZ was taken. What makes this store a 4? --- For a number of years now I have refrained from purchasing items imported from China due to the enslavement of Uighurs (some are forced to work in factories among other things). A far majority of the planters at Ginkgo Gardens are from China. I did pick up a couple from Italy, but wish that there was more of a variety. I'll be on the lookout for perhaps more ethical options at other local stores. It was extremely busy on a Sunday in August in the age of COVID. Everyone was practicing social distancing as much as possible and wearing masks.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing staff, the young lady that works there was amazing, helped me find what I needed and gave me a walking tour through GG. She was happy to talk about all types of plants etc. I grabbed about five different plants for my apt. I just love the place and if it weren't a pandemic would probably hang out more and stop by more often. They have great plants and good prices. Really awesome to have this in area.

Yelp
I contracted with Gingko Gardens in Spring 2022 to design and implement a 350 sq. ft. private urban roof garden at my condo near Catholic University with a budget of no more than $6,000. The project, while straightforward enough, had one huge catch: there was no water source on the roof! Landscape designer Thomas Kapfer's brilliant solution was to create the roof top deck garden around something quite new on the market, a "self-watering planter" from Canada. My large rectangular planters have a water reservoir in the bottom of the planter than can hold 20 gallons of water for about 6 weeks, so no need for regular watering for long periods of time even when there is no rain. The planters are filled with a variety of sun-loving, drought-resistant,sweet-smelling perennials, such as Russian sage, Cat-mint, Butterfly plants, Hummingbird flowers, grasses and 2 vines, Honeysuckle and a Tangerine trumpet vine. I plan on enjoying this garden, which took about 5 months from first contact on the shop's web site to final installation, for years to come. And I am sure it has significantly enhanced the value of my condo when it comes time to sell - not an unimportant consideration these days.

Yelp
After passing this location many times, today I finally got the time to stop by! I was super excited about it, I loved the free flowing layout and random plant placement. I think it allows you to find what catches your eye. The customer service however was subpar! No one ever greeted me (after passing 3 employees) I even said excuse me to one as I was trying to get by and he looked at me and said nothing. I attempted to ask the lady at the cash register two different questions about plants I was interested in.. the tone of her voice and facial expression seemed like she did not want to be bothered. I did make a purchase, only because it was adorable and I couldn't leave without it. I do not plan on returning!
google avatar

Wambani L.

Yelp
I took my plant there to be repotted. Spoke to this nice lady who said to bring it and it will be done within a few hours and they will call when ready. 2 days later I call them and they did not even know that they had my plant. The work had not been done. And when I expressed my frustration by saying omg, this very rude guy starts yelling at me and talking over me. Super sarcastic too. Clearly customer service is not his forte. Terrible experience after spending so much money. Will not be recommending to anyone.
google avatar

Manuela G.

Yelp
I hired them for landscaping. After about six months of waiting, I had preliminary designs from the designer that I liked, but were well outside of my budget. I asked for revisions, and he ghosted me. The experience cost me a design fee, a fall, and a spring. I would not recommend. On the other hand, I planted a few flowers there that did well.
google avatar

Melody M.

Yelp
My plant collection in this Age of Covid has increased tenfold, and I have to thank/blame Ginkgo Gardens for that. I pay a visit to this wonderful shop at least every other week, as I'm always looking out for new plants to take home with me. They offer a great selection of indoor and outdoor houseplants as well a variety of lovely pots and planters. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I also appreciate that they offer delivery service. Ginkgo Gardens is one of the city's gems.
google avatar

Latasha D.

Yelp
Nice variety and fair prices. I got my first Silver Bay Evergreen and Japanese fern. Love my babies
google avatar

Estefani L.

Yelp
This place is heaven if you're into plants! Prices vary depending on how big or small plants are. I went in looking for a fiddle leaf fig, and found one the perfect size at a reasonable price. Pots can be a bit on the expensive end. Staff is friendly, someone patiently answered all my questions regarding care. The place itself is pretty small, so it can get tight when it gets a bit crowded.
google avatar

Nicole P.

Yelp
Is it bad that I mainly came here to see the fellow cat employee(s)? Even though I left without seeing any felines, I was able to get a plant to add to my ever growing collection of houseplant friends. I've been looking for a watermelon peperomia for a while now, and got a great deal on it. The plant had some damage, as if it's been dropped, so I had to slightly nurse it back to health. The guy was so nice to give us a better deal than their 30% off, and I walked away with a 5 dollar plant. Totally recommend this place and I shall be back whenever I'm in the city!
google avatar

Chanel A.

Yelp
Damn Ginkgos!!! Take my money. Your plant game is strong. I came in once to buy five herbs, and then I came back four more times to buy four other plants (woops), and got hooked. I was looking for a Monsetara everywhere else for overpriced. A 8" pot one was $35!!! I love this place it's like a sanctuary. The staff is super friendly too and taught this ignorant plant newb so much about handling plants!
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
Adorable garden shop with lots of unique plants without an obscene price tag. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable and my dog always knows he'll get a treat there. Will obviously be back!

John M.

Yelp
Cute spot with many houseplants! I got my mom 4 bags of bulbs and small trowel for $30. What a steal! Plants are decently priced.
google avatar

Wilson B.

Yelp
I hadn't been in awhile but as I've been getting back into plants this was an apt time to visit. On this particular Sat. lots of people had the same idea because it was packed, inside and out. The wait to get in wasn't too bad but it was a wait and for the good, that way too many people wouldn't be in the store at once. When I visited previously it was for succulents which were new to me but this time it was for big house plants, the kind my grandmother kept. They were cheaper than I expected and healthy looking so I was eager to get something home. Point of Sale was smooth and easy considering I was lugging a sizable Dracaena. The associate at the register, one of a few helpful ones I interacted with had me tear off the price tag, pay and then I was able to carry my plant out with ease.
google avatar

R P.

Yelp
I'm starting my journey in plants and I'm so glad that I found Ginko Gardens. I walked in and said "help me please". The lady that helped me was very patient as we walked around and talked about several plants, which allowed me to select my two newest members of the family with confidence. If I manage to keep these two alive, I will be back!
google avatar

Tyler L.

Yelp
Great plant selection! I found plants here that I've been looking for and haven't found at other places. Unfortunately the older gentleman at the cash register was not very welcoming and seemed really annoyed if I asked him questions about some of the plants. In particular, I purchased a monstersa that was leaning heavily over the side of the pot and couldn't stand up on its own at all. Having little experience with that particular plant, I told him I was worried about it how the plant would survive and he responded "well then don't get it." I also saw a few Hoyas in the front with pests and he assured me that if the plants had mites/pests I "wouldn't be able to see them so they were likely spiders." A shame, but won't be back here.
google avatar

Regina C.

Yelp
Although a little pricey still love his nursery! I am able to find plants that I wouldn't normally be able to find in a Lowes or home depot for example. Definitely, definitely, definitely will be returning!!

Nichole K.

Yelp
I can't believe this gem was hidden right under my nose. They have a large selection of everything one might need from outdoor to indoor gardening. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. I'm so glad to have found them!

Yelp
A beautiful store but you'll pay Tiffany prices and get Dollar General service. Plants, unlike big box stores, are not guaranteed, and if you have a problem the staff is unhelpful. I paid $45 for an azalea that developed a leaf problem, called to see if they had any advice. I was told to email in photos which I did and was ignored. I tried online research to no avail after spending $15 on a fungicide. If I'd gone big box instead of local business I'd have paid less and be eligible for a replacement. Lesson learned.
