King of the Food Trucks Hits Hawaii

"Giovanni's is a heavily graffitied truck that doesn't look as if it has ever moved from this spot. It's famous for its garlic shrimp, and the scent of chopped garlic surrounds the truck like a cloud. The menu is painted on a surfboard, but there's no reason to get anything but as many garlic shrimp as you can hold; firm, sweet and swimming in scented oil." - Jonathan Gold

This location is inside an H Mart! Came here after visiting Big Wave shrimp on north shore and I thought Giovanni’s was much tastier! They really emphasize the garlic flavor well and their spicy sauce is delicious. Definitely worth making a stop here!

Google
Giovanni’s shrimp never disappoints!!! I love that they have this new location close to Waikiki so now we don’t have to drive to north shore so Giovanni’s!!!! My husband gets hot n spicy 🌶️ shrimp he loves spicy it’s his fav! I get the garlic 🧄 this food is to die for ♥️☺️😬

Google
The best shrimp I’ve had on the Island so far. This is day 6 for me. I got the scampi and added the delicious hot sauce in the side with Mac salad. So good! We are planning to come back later tonight.

Google
The Garlic Shrimp is absolutely fantastic! There's a parking garage right next door, and you can stroll through a neat H-Mart before taking the elevator up to the dining area. It's a nice, air-conditioned food court. This spot is definitely one of our favorite places to grab a bite when we're in Honolulu, HI. The garlic rice and noodle salad are delicious as well. So tasty! 😋

Google
Had visited this place with high hopes, but it did not meet our expectations. I tried the Hot & Spicy Shrimp Plate, and although I love shrimp and have a high tolerance for heat, I quite disliked it - the shrimps were not peeled and the shells were just too hard and unappetizing. The hot sauce was painfully hot, which made the experience all the more unpleasant. We also tried the Shrimp Scampi plate, which was definitely more flavorful, but the hard shrimp shells really spoilt it for us.

Google
We went the Giovanni’s Shrimp in the 2nd floor of H-Mart. The garlic rice and scampi is our go-to. Lots of shrimp for a great price. We also had the mac salad. A must stop when you’re in Honolulu and can’t make it out to the original spot in the North Shore.

Google
I went to giovannis located on the 2nd floor above h mart and the food was delicious. The best food I have eaten in a long time! I took the bus from waikiki beach just to go here and I’m so glad I did. Also, the lady working named Kristin had great customer service! I can’t wait to go back here next time we visit hawaii.

Google
Located on the second floor above H-Mart, Giovannis is one of the several restaurants in the food court. I normally get the Hot and Spicy Shrimp just like this visit. It's extremely spicy so they do warn you before making the purchase. There are no returns and money back after you are warned. The service is friendly and helpful. I only waited 5 minutes for my order. It comes with 8 pieces of shrimp, 2 scoops of white sticky rice, and a lemon wedge. As always, it was delicious!

Yelp
As a longtime fan of Giovanni's, I was thrilled to find that their H Mart food court location in Honolulu brings their iconic garlic shrimp to town. While it's undeniably missing the outdoor shrimp truck atmosphere of the North Shore, that's simply a matter of location, not a fault of this establishment. Instead, this spot offers a much-needed alternative for those who want to enjoy their legendary shrimp without making the trek. I ordered the regular shrimp plate, which was priced at $17.50 as of March 2025--a great deal for the quality and portion. The shrimp were cooked to perfection, coated in that signature garlicky butter sauce that makes Giovanni's so well-loved. Every bite was rich, flavorful, and indulgent. Given how heavy the dish is, I recommend asking for an extra lemon wedge to brighten things up with some acidity. It makes a noticeable difference in balancing out the richness. For anyone craving Giovanni's but short on time, this location delivers the same great flavors in a more accessible setting. It may not be the full North Shore experience, but the food speaks for itself. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
It was my first time trying Giovanni's infamous shrimp! This review is for the indoor location in downtown Honolulu (Kakaako), tucked away on the second floor of Hmart. Unlike their food trucks in Haleiwa and Kahuku, this spot had no wait at all! It's such a hidden gem! We ordered at the register with the nice cashier and the food came out incredibly fast and was warm when it hit the table. We ordered the scampi. The garlic flavor was bold but not overwhelming. The shrimp was tender and cooked well, you could eat it with or without the shell. Every bite was garlicky, buttery, but just a bit too salty. This location is a convenient option to avoid the long lines at their trucks. I'd recommend stopping by if you're in the area and get the scampi with spicy sauce on the side! It'll be on my itinerary whenever I come back to Oahu!

Yelp
This spot is located on the second floor inside the H Mart in downtown Honolulu. We visited around 1 PM on a Saturday and didn't have to wait for a table. There are plenty of tables available, so finding a seat shouldn't be an issue. I usually go to their food truck when I'm in Honolulu, but I'm thrilled they've opened a location downtown--it's so much more convenient! I ordered the shrimp scampi, the original! The shrimp were huge and packed with garlicky goodness. Fair warning--it gets messy, so have some wet wipes handy. I also got the mac salad as a side. The portion is pretty small, so if you have a big appetite, I'd recommend ordering two. Overall, a great spot to satisfy a shrimp craving! I'll definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Love this little food hall above the H Mart in downtown Honolulu. It's a very basic hall with small food stalls along the walls. This is a very convenient place to get garlic shrimp without having to drive all the way out to Kahuku. While it loses it's charm being in a non-descript food hall instead of outside in Kahuku, the garlic shrimp over rice is almost as good. They also had a garlic dog for those that don't just want shrimp and my wife loved it. The service is a lot faster here since the lines aren't long and it's probably easier to cook in a real kitchen.
google avatar

Melanie D.

Yelp
Omg, all I wanted for this trip was some garlic shrimp and Giovanni's delivered! Located on the second floor of the same building as H Mart is where you will find the restaurant. The shrimp was perfectly buttered and had so much garlic...just what I love! The rice was also perfectly cooked! Best Mac salad! I can't want to go back already!

Yelp
This place was always one of my favorites when old make a North Shore trip. I enjoy this town location in Kakaako! Giovanni is located at the Korean supermarket Hmart on the second floor in the food court at Kakaako. You can get a parking validation for eating here or shopping at Hmart. It's so nice to not have to drive to the North shore for some Giovanni's. My favorite and the most popular is the garlic shrimp scampi w garlic on the rice. People say you can make this at home yourself but it's nice to eat out sometimes. Bring some gum or a mint because you'll smell like garlic all day. I also enjoy the side hot sauce. The place was filled with Japanese tourists when i went on a weekday, it's nice to see this place with business since it's kinda isolated upstairs of Hmart. Can't wait to go again, the butter, garlic, shrimp, lemon, hot sauce hits the spot every time!
google avatar

Jackie T.

Yelp
Don't feel like driving up to North Shore for some Giovanni's? Well you're in luck! This Giovanni's is located in a food court area right above H-Mart with lots of places to sit and enjoy your food. There's a parking structure behind the H-Mart or you can try your luck with street parking. The shrimp is just as good as the food truck. I've tried the scampi (the best!), hot & spicy and lemon/butter. I personally like the scampi the best because it's full of flavor. The hot & spicy is REALLY spicy and the lemon/butter is kinda bland imo.
google avatar

Christine J.

Yelp
Must Go. I almost skipped it despite my friend's recommendation. The shrimps were big and plump, with the perfect amount of garlic seasoning over oily rice, yum. Not an everyday meal (butter/grease) but a must try. I sat down to try one shrimp bc I wasn't hungry but couldn't stop until I ate half the plate. Lots of shrimps on that one plate, probably 10-15? You will use your fingers and it will get messy but that's part of the experience. I was glad to see the shrimps weren't deep fried but sautéed. It was so tasty that I'm still thinking and drooling about it on my flight home.. Will come again the next time I visit, hopefully to the OG north shore location next.

Yelp
3.5 stars If you're wanting to avoid the drive to North Shore and the wait for the food truck, the Giovanni's brick & mortar is here to save the day. Located a few miles off Downtown Waikiki, right above HMart in the food hall. Scampi Shrimp Plate ($17.50): Olive oil, garlic, lemon butter sauce panfried with a dozen shrimps - served alongside 2 scoops of rice topped with a little more garlic sauce. I remember the garlic sauce being more garlicky in flavor which I felt was lacking this time around. Shrimp is made easy to peel. Garlic Dog ($5): I've never seen this item offered at the food truck prior so decided to try it out in two variations - one in the bun and one with rice. It would have been nice if the bun was toasted or a sweet roll bun instead. Just an average all beef hot dog, nothing special but it is a good price. Cashier was friendly and welcoming. Hot sauce provided upon request - very spicy! Plenty of indoor seating within the food court with high chairs available as well.

Yelp
Wanted to try this place as it was a hyped up place on my list. The service was fast but the girl who took are order looked a little annoyed with us. The food was just okay. I think it needed some more salt.
google avatar

Kathy F.

Yelp
The food was ok. The service was blah. The older lady that was at the register looks like she didn't want to be there and was not friendly at all. I feel that it's over hyped. I preferred Jenny lunch wagon and big wave over Giovanni's shrimp. Would not come back
google avatar

Ashley Z.

Yelp
This location is on the second floor inside the H mart in downtown Honolulu. There is no wait at all! I've been here twice now, and I'd much prefer coming to this location than the food truck at Northshore because of the wait time there. Food quality is the same IMO. Ample amount of shrimp in each order.
google avatar

Yvonne C.

Yelp
Came here today to eat the famous shrimp truck. And I was severely disappointed. First off, the service was terrible, and the lady who was at the truck was super super rude to me and my family. Second off the shrimp was definitely not the best I've had in Hawaii and it is really really over hived by TikTok and social media and general and I would go somewhere else if you can for shrimp if that's what you're looking for as there's a lot of better alternatives especially in the Waikiki area if you want good garlic shrimp so I wouldn't come out of your way to try this as it is over hyped.
google avatar

Jacky K C.

Yelp
Shrimp scampi number one is the best. Flavourful garlic sauce though when you reach the bottom of the plate, the oil from the butter is kinda unappetizing. Spicy number two is way too spicy. No refunds on the menu is a good touch. I think if they add in garlic it will be even better. The hot sauce is a Tabasco based sauce. Overall the shrimp has good texture and not mushy at all. Be better if the head is still on.
google avatar

Ashley S.

Yelp
Love the food court and how we don't have to drive up to north shore to enjoy Giovanni's. Quality and taste is just the same. Rice and sauce and flavor is perfect.
google avatar

Malissa N.

Yelp
Had to see what the hype was all about. Now, this place was super tricky to find, but def worth trying! It is upstairs of a small shopping mart in the "cafeteria". The AC works great and the service is fast! The shrimp was killer. I feel like it needs a little more flavor but regardless I would go back. I liked the Mac salad, not overly sweet. OVER ALL great experience and good food

Yelp
Went to another place for lunch on 6/30 that my friend suggested. I liked that this was in a food court (lots of variety!) and above an Hmart. We got a plate of the scampi and a plate of the lemon/butter, with a side of hot sauce. For both plates, the shrimp was cooked perfectly and came out of the shells easily. Out of the two, I'd say I enjoyed the scampi more. There was a lot of garlic on the shrimp and rice, for that extra garlic flavor. The hot sauce was definitely a little too spicy for me but it paired well so I had to use it! I wouldn't get the lemon/butter again, just because it was too simple for me personally. There wasn't a lot of flavor, even with the sauce. There's plenty of seating in the food court and the tables and chairs were clean. Do be aware that the business is cash only though. They have the credit card system there but it doesn't seem like they use it? Either way, I'm glad I was able to try out the garlic shrimp!

Yelp
Giovanni's Shrimp Truck in Waikiki, hands down one of the best food experiences I've ever had! From the moment I arrived, the vibrant atmosphere and the tantalizing aromas of garlic and butter drew me in. I ordered the famous garlic butter shrimp, and let me tell you--it did not disappoint! The shrimp were perfectly cooked, plump, and juicy, drenched in a heavenly garlic butter sauce that was utterly addictive. Each bite was bursting with flavor, and I found myself savoring every moment. The side of rice was the perfect complement, soaking up all that delicious sauce. I could have eaten a mountain of it! If you're in Waikiki, Giovanni's Shrimp Truck is an absolute must-visit! It's not just a meal; it's a culinary experience that showcases the best of Hawaiian flavors. I can't wait to come back for another round of that incredible garlic butter shrimp! Mahalo for an amazing dining experience!
google avatar

Kaleo L.

Yelp
Located upstairs at H-Mart, Giovanni's saves you the trip to North Shore by establishing a location in Kakaako. The plates have gotten a little more expensive than I remember at $17.50 for the scampi, but it comes with 12 shrimp with lemon and 2 scoops of rice with their garlic mix on top. They're not the biggest shrimp, and the outside didn't have too much flavor making it a little bland overall. Honestly there are better places to get the same style butter garlic shrimp, but I would go if I was craving it and needing groceries at the same time. Upon exiting you can go downstairs to get parking validation from the cashier if you parking in the adjoining structure.
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
Giovanni's Shrimp truck in Haleiwa is a must! It has now become a tradition to sign the truck and get some garlic shrimp!
google avatar

Mistie P.

Yelp
AMAZING FOOD, fast and friendly service, great atmosphere!!!! Definitely going back when on the island!!
google avatar

Yelp
I have eaten at Giovanni's many time but today I found many shrimp still with the intestine vein not removed from the shrimp.
google avatar

Katie R.

Yelp
We didn't get a chance to try the Giovanni's shrimp truck in North Shore so I was so happy find that they had one in Honolulu. This location is located in H Mart's food court on the second floor. There are signs inside to help find it. There are two parking structures and we parked in the one across from it. Parking was free for the first hour. They accept credit cards at this location and we ordered the Scampi garlic shrimp. Our order was ready within a short 5 minutes. The garlic flavor was tasty and amazing especially with squeezed lemon on top! And the shrimp was cooked perfectly. However, both my husband and I disliked that the shrimp was not peeled. We felt like the flavoring was lost after peeling the shrimp with our hands so you either have to suck the seasoning on the shell or scrape it off and on to the shrimp. The shrimp only came with two scoops of white rice, I wish it came with a side of mac salad too but that was extra. Service was friendly and the food court eating area was very clean and there are plenty of tables to sit at. There are restrooms also available in this location.
google avatar

Herv310 ..

Yelp
I love the new location. A lot of parking and seat in. We always had to worry about that when we went to Kahuku or Haleiwa. Really close to Waikiki, which is a major plus. It's also in doors so don't have to worry about the flies or the chickens trying to eat your food Lol.
google avatar

Maki K.

Yelp
Yay! Now you can have Giovanni's shrimp without you have to go all the way to North shore. Shrimp scampi is $16 includes tax. Isn't this cheaper than north shore? Tastes good with their house made spicy sauce!! You can do BYOB if you purchase from H mart!! Or you can buy from the bar. Draft bet $2.50!
google avatar

Darlene D.

Yelp
This was another recommendation from a friend and man I'm so thankful. I looove shrimp, however, I'm picky. I cannot eat shrimp that is not deveined. Luckily at Giovanni's, their shrimp is deveined!! YAY!! If you love shrimp, then you definitely need to check out Giovanni's. We went to the Giovanni's located inside HMart. It's within the food court located on the second floor. Their menu is very straightforward with, of course, shrimp dishes. They have shrimp scampi, hot & spicy shrimp, and lemon butter. Yum! I went with their famous shrimp scampi plate with rice. Not only did it smell amazing, but it tasted amazing as well! It was sooo good! There is plenty of seating and plenty of wet wipes and napkins. You will get messy!
google avatar

Cheryl G.

Yelp
First in line on a Tuesday morning - March 2024 Located inside H-Mart on the second floor food court, Giovanni's on the right as you climb the stairs. We ordered two plates and a side of mac salad. Once we received our food, we ate in silence as we enjoyed the fresh, garlicky shrimp we remember from the north shore, now located in Honolulu. Love this place and hope we can return again soon.
google avatar

Nerissa C.

Yelp
Upstairs. Located inside HMart. US$18. With 12 shrimps/rice. No mac salad $2.50 extra. Taste was no different than the ones at Tanaka's. They are shrimps with garlic and butter. Nothing "magical" about them.
google avatar

Vance N.

Yelp
If you love garilc and shrimp, Giovanni's is for you. I don't eat shrimp so I can't review this. It looked good and my friends said it was good so 5 stars it is. New location for those who don't want to drive towards Northshore for the original Shimp Truck. That location has its own charm and is a nice stop for a trip around the island. This location is a much more convenient way to enjoy their shrimp.
google avatar

Ellee W.

Yelp
In a food court above H Mart. We got the classic garlic shrimp. We were able to share one dish and it was plenty of food. You have to take off the shells, which are easy to come off.
google avatar

Alexsis A.

Yelp
AhhhhhMayyyyyyZiiiiiiiiing!!!!!!!!!! Giovanni's is definitely living up to all the hype. I went to the location inside of a H Mart. Listen, I decided to go to this location for two reasons: It was indoors with an air conditioner & closest to my hotel. It was about a twenty minute drive. The original restaurant is actually a food truck that always has a line and about 1 hour and 20 minutes from Waikiki Beach. So, ya girl avoided all of that!!!! Alright, let's get to it..... Food-I ordered the shrimp scampi style. The shrimp were cleaned, cut down the middle (for an easier peel of shell) and seasoned to perfection. Now, the white rice was topped with this special gravy (you have to ask for it) that was thick, brownish in color with a strong garlic flavor. Lawwwwwwwd, it was delicious. My husband ordered the hot & spicy shrimp and babeeeee.....it was . But it was flavorful. Those shrimp too were seasoned and juicy. When you visit here, please remember the following: -the food is cooked to order, so you will have to wait a bit. -this location is literally on the second floor of a supermarket. -the gravy is extra! -the Mac salad is extra! Get it!!!! -it's indoors and air conditioned -the togo packaging is literally two paper plates wrapped in aluminum foil. -this is a shrimp spot.....there aren't any other options. So, think Forest Gump. LoL!!!!
google avatar

Jackie S.

Yelp
I always love this location in town! No traffic to beat all the way to North Shore, food court is always clean on top of H-Mart in Kakaʻako and a free parking for an hour. Food is always ono and the people here are always kind and friendly. Mahalo, as always!
google avatar

Dung N.

Yelp
This place was pretty hard to find- on top of a supermarket! I was expecting a food truck like the last time I've been ( over a decade ago), but it looks like they moved to a food court. It was not busy at all, so we got our food pretty quickly. The shrimp was full of garlic and still delicious! Too bad my friend can't handle spices, because they have a spicy version too! Later on we found out that we went to a different location because they still have their truck! Not sure if it's busier there, but at this location there are no flies.
google avatar

Malica N.

Yelp
I've tried 3 different shrimp trucks and Giovanni is honestly my favorite hands down! This tastes the same as Giovanni shrimp truck but I prefer this spot because of the location. Easy parking, tables to dine on, and located above hmart so you can shop for snacks and drinks afterwards. There are also other food and drinks in the plaza as well I tried all their flavors and I'm not a huge fan of the lemon butter. Their spicy sauce is good but overwhelming. What I would do is get all garlic, and ask for a side of their hot sauce to dip
google avatar

Darren N.

Yelp
Fast service and fair prices for the portion size of a dozen shrimp. The flavors of the dish are spot on. You can enter the second floor food court from within H Mart, but make sure you pay for any groceries first.
google avatar

Pulelehua E.

Yelp
I am so happy Giovanni's now has locations across the island. I can safely say the same fresh seafood quality and garlic flavor is available at the food court location above H Mart. The wait was quite some time but as always, worth it. Lots of available seating in this food court makes it a convenient stop.
google avatar

Birdie H.

Yelp
Imma say 5 stars because this place is totally like a mini market where you can eat from multiple restaurants AND shop for groceries too! Below is the grocery store while Giovanni's is upstairs. There are also several other restaurants you can eat from too. Like a food court. The ambiance is nice, casual, laid back & open. LOVE IT! All restaurants open @ 11am. This place is so AWESOME! THANK YOU! Myko for surprising me for lunch! LOVE U!
google avatar

Jay O.

Yelp
If you come to Oahu and don't come here you have a serious problem. Haha. Quick service. Best shrimp scampi! Place is chill above the HMart. 1 hour free parking or 2 hour free parking with HMart validation.

Cindy L.

Yelp
New location in the food court above H-mart. The shrimp was good but the original truck is still better. With a shrimp platter, you get 12 shrimp with two scoops of rice and a lemon wedge. The customer service was good. They take your order and then call your number over the intercom. Plenty of seating so you're not forced to eat in your car or on a random bench. The area is clean with public restrooms.
google avatar

Memory L.

Yelp
Shrimp scampi was what I expected & more! Love the garlic!! Dozen shrimp & rice for $17.50 plus tax. Got the Mac salad for $2.50. Smaller than a regular sized scoop. But so worth it. Would so come back!!! Thank you for opening up in Honolulu, closer to Waikiki!
google avatar

J Y.

Yelp
So buttery, garlicky and tasty! Never tried anything but the scampi because it's soooo good. Finally can get this without going up to North Shore. Plenty of seats in the food court, located on the second floor of H Mart. Friendly service as well!
google avatar

Bethany K.

Yelp
Disaster expect worst - you will get that. I starved for a day though i could not finish this plate They literally poured vinegar into my hot&spicy shrimp plate It was not something that human can eat at all We tried talking to the cashier / employee But they said this is a usual plate????? Really???? Can you eat this????
google avatar

M S.

Yelp
Delicious! And the garlic butter hot dog with rice so ono! Went back again later on in the trip.
google avatar

Ruby S.

Yelp
NOT the original food truck in north shore! This one's located upstairs, on top of H*mart. My bestie wanted Giovanni's but we didn't have a car so we Uber'd here. Garlic shrimp plate tastes just the same at off the truck; so ono! without the long line, humidity, north shore dust. There's a restroom to wash your hands and other food/dessert places close by.

Annie Y.

Yelp
Upstairs of H-Mart. I've always eaten at Giovanni Shrimp and brought my own water canteen. Today I bought dinner at Giovanni and because our water canteen was empty I asked for 2 cups of water. I was told tap water in a cup would cost me the same as buying bottle water therefore I should buy the bottle water!!!!!! What eatery doesn't give you water in a paper cup after paying $37 for 2 plate lunches. I'm NOT buying a plate lunch from a FOOD TRUCK! I'm buying lunch from a food court which has a dining area shared with other eatery. If that's the case a self serve water spigot should be in the dining area. Customer should not be told that a water fountain is downstairs in H-Mart. What an insult to paying customers .
google avatar

Valentina L.

Yelp
I wanted to try Giovanni but without having to go all the way to North Shore to have it. I learned that they now have a store front located in the food court/food hall of HMart Honolulu. I got so excited and was so happy to try it. I got the hot and spicy shrimp to share with my brother. It was definitely delicious and very spicy. I wish they sold a bottle of their spicy sauce so I can take it home to SoCal. We only waited about 10-15 minutes for our order and got to sit in an available seating. It set up like a food court/food hall. Very trendy and colorful matching the wonderful vibes of Hawaii. I would rate this 8/10. I would love to try garlic shrimp next time I'm in Hawaii.
google avatar

Bill T.

Yelp
First and foremost, Nick is awesome and does a ton for your brand. He truly embodies Aloha! Second, the #1 was so good. Did not over do it on the garlic. Flavored was incredible. Adding a little sauce to the rice adds a little bit of perfection. Aunties Homemade Mac Salad, . I would give 6 stars if I could. Truly the whole package!!!
google avatar

Rohith V.

Yelp
Came to the north side of the island to explore a little bit and I had to try this place at the recommendation of so many others. It's located in a little lot with a bunch of other little food and drink trucks. You can park nearby or pay to park in the lot if it's not full already. Waited in a line for about 20-30 minutes and was even more hungry by the time I got to the front. Went with the garlic shrimp because it's such a classic. It comes with rice and is SUPER garlicky. It's a little on the oily side and a I felt a little overcooked. Overall very tasty but perhaps a little overhyped and has become a little bit of a tourist trap, I'm sure there are better places for garlic shrimp around.
google avatar

Andrea G.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Giovanni's Food Truck for a long time now. So when we saw that they opened a location near where we were staying, of course we were going to try it. They have different flavors for you to pick from. But we ended up deciding on the most popular: garlic shrimp scampi. It comes with two scoop of garlicky rice. We asked for their famous hot sauce on the side. And ordered the Mac salad on the side. The shrimp was flavorful and I loved the Mac salad Definitely worth a try. I'm glad that this location - inside Hmart - didn't have a super long line!
