How?
Kaffihûs Bakkabrædra is more than just a coffee shop; it's an authentic and heartwarming Icelandic experience in the small town of Dalvík. Upon entering, you're immediately drawn into a cozy, museum-like atmosphere that feels like a trip back in time. The space is tastefully designed with two floors full of nostalgic items that characterize the area. From the second floor, the view of the sea is simply breathtaking. The service, provided by Gabor, the manager, was exceptionally warm and helpful. He offered great recommendations and shared interesting insights about the restaurant, the town, and the surrounding area.
What?
The excellent fish soup deal was the perfect choice. The meal includes a bowl of rich fish soup with local, fresh fish chunks and herbs, a fresh salad, and delicious freshly baked beer bread with butter—all of which left me wanting more. The homemade bread was a refreshing and perfect addition. After the meal, you can help yourself to a complimentary filter coffee or tea, which was a lovely way to end the experience. The hospitality reached its peak when Gabor offered to refill my bowl of soup, just in case I was still hungry.
Bottom Line
At 3,490 Icelandic krona, this is excellent value for money, especially considering Iceland is a pricey destination. This is an opportunity to experience high-quality local food in a unique atmosphere and enjoy genuine Icelandic hospitality. The place is a must-stop for anyone traveling in Dalvík or the nearby Akureyri area. In short, it’s not just a meal, but a recommended experience that's well worth the stop.
