This is an unforgettable soup!!!! It should be the best soup with great attitude in Iceland. I really like the fish/ vegetable soup and the mango cheese cake. Also the bread and butter are so match! The restaurant design is also great! This restaurant is suggested by our tour guide Siggi, we will come again if travel in Iceland next time!! Love it, thanks a lot!

Hello Bjarni and Heiða, The day I met you was 6 October 2025. I had wanted to leave a message to thank you — for the wonderful food in Dalvík, and for meeting you both — but before I realised it, two months had passed. Now I am writing this on the very last day of the year, 31 December 2025. That place felt special from the moment I arrived. It is a space you created, and one you continue to care for with constant effort and dedication, keeping it warm and beautiful. The old, artistic spaces you kindly shared left a deep impression on me, and I felt honoured to experience them. Through your food and your kindness, that day became the warmest day of my entire visit to Iceland. I sincerely wish you, your family, and everyone in your village good health and happiness. With heartfelt thanks from Korea, Kang P.S. “Gísli, Eiríkur, Helgi Kaffihús Bakkabrædra” in Dalvík truly deserves to be considered a must-visit stop on any journey through Iceland. 😊

How? Kaffihûs Bakkabrædra is more than just a coffee shop; it's an authentic and heartwarming Icelandic experience in the small town of Dalvík. Upon entering, you're immediately drawn into a cozy, museum-like atmosphere that feels like a trip back in time. The space is tastefully designed with two floors full of nostalgic items that characterize the area. From the second floor, the view of the sea is simply breathtaking. The service, provided by Gabor, the manager, was exceptionally warm and helpful. He offered great recommendations and shared interesting insights about the restaurant, the town, and the surrounding area. What? The excellent fish soup deal was the perfect choice. The meal includes a bowl of rich fish soup with local, fresh fish chunks and herbs, a fresh salad, and delicious freshly baked beer bread with butter—all of which left me wanting more. The homemade bread was a refreshing and perfect addition. After the meal, you can help yourself to a complimentary filter coffee or tea, which was a lovely way to end the experience. The hospitality reached its peak when Gabor offered to refill my bowl of soup, just in case I was still hungry. Bottom Line At 3,490 Icelandic krona, this is excellent value for money, especially considering Iceland is a pricey destination. This is an opportunity to experience high-quality local food in a unique atmosphere and enjoy genuine Icelandic hospitality. The place is a must-stop for anyone traveling in Dalvík or the nearby Akureyri area. In short, it’s not just a meal, but a recommended experience that's well worth the stop. "Edited following the owner's response due to a mistake in my wording."

There’s something about this place, it just clicks with me. It has a very warm and eclectic charm and feels like a cozy mix of a local café and a vintage shop. It feels lived-in and authentic rather than overly styled with a space that combines rustic wooden furniture and retro details with quirky touches like knitted sweaters on display and the occasional rainbow flag. The coffee was also good.

Oh my goodness the soup is so so tasty! I can honestly say this soup is the best meal I’ve had in Iceland! The flavour is dreamy and so much fish! Oh and it comes with bread, salad, and coffee/tea! The bread is fresh and moist and so flavourful! You can go back for seconds and even thirds! We went right after whale watching and it was the perfect way to warm up! The staff are very friendly!

Amazing place to have a fish soup ! Everything was so good, the soup, the 3 types of bread, and all for a reasonable price. The staff was very kind and we got great explanation about the menu. The setting is unique and very nice.
