"Six years ago, I traveled to this little town in Iceland called Egilsstaðir to film a show called Fortitude. Part of my attraction to the role was the location. We flew to the town, which is about an hour's flight from Reykjavík, in January, and stayed in this very boxy, very cookie-cutter hotel, and I thought, Oh, my God, what am I gonna do here! But there was this old farm about three quarters of a mile away, across a field, that had been turned into a hotel—Gistihúsið Lake Hotel. The same family has owned it since the late 1800s. There I was, walking across this field and looking at the northern lights, going into this more than one-hundred-year-old farmhouse, and eating an incredible meal of reindeer and fresh langoustines. It was just magnificent."

We have been on a month long tour of Europe and Iceland and this has been by far the nicest place we have stayed. The staff was incredible...every single person we had contact with really seemed to enjoy there job and wanted us to feel appreciated and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was delicious and even though we didn't have time to enjoy the Spa it definitely looked inviting. And when we asked for them to arrange a taxi to the airport the staff said there is only two in the area but not to worry...if one couldn't be arranged, one of them would give us a ride. And if you are in the area to enjoy the Northern Lights you can sign up for a wake up call and the person at the front desk will keep an eye out and ring your room when they start! Chris ( To ownership: A special shout out to one of the staff who really went above and beyond.....I didn't catch his name but he just moved from to Iceland Czechoslovakia but you wouldn't know it...his English was better than mine!)

Good hotel with a great restaurant! The decorations on the lobby area were charming and made it cozy. The rooms were good, but the high point for me was the restaurant: the best meal I had in Iceland! I mistankenly ordered a vegetarian dish, but it was a glad surprise because it was delicious! The desserts were beautiful and delicious as well. The main dish was reasonably portioned and I shared it with a friend since we were not particularly hungry that day, but the food was so good that we decided to get one whole dessert each. I do not regret that decision and I would love to go back just to repeat that meal!

What a fantastic hotel! I just completed a solo 10 day trip around Iceland, where I changed hotels every night, and this was BY FAR my favorite one of the trip. The front desk person was super friendly. The lobby and bar area was so cute - a great place for a glass of wine during happy hour. And the room was fantastic - large, comfortable, and the bathroom floors were heated! I ate dinner and breakfast at the on-site restaurant and both meals were very very good. |I would highly recommend this hotel.

Nice property, there are a few things that would have made my stay better. I stayed there in Nov, I think that I was the only one there, winter is definitely the slow season. Room was nothing special, 3* at best. Mattress could use an update, hot water did smell of sulfur, no big deal , just annoying. Tile in shower was slick, maybe a shower mat would be a helpful touch .Breakfast was good, not great. The service factor was just not there from anyone in the entire building. I felt that I just was another Joe. Parking lot smell was definitely there, but did not bother me as I live on a farm. The building and rooms are dated and could use an update. Price should have been better since the place was empty. It did have a great setting on the lake.

Wonderful location on the lake and next to the family farm. Impressive and welcoming lobby area. Staff was helpful and friendly. You can get a wake up call for the northern lights which we did and it was amazing. Why pay a tour company. Rooms were comfortable and small but we had everything we needed. Onsite restaurant was amazing and innovative. Average price for Iceland in September. On the edge of the city so convenient. Would recommend staying here if you are traveling in the East.

Loved this hotel! After staying at a few in north the amenities of an on site spa and restaurant were much appreciated. ||The room was a good size and had either recently been renovated or was very well up-kept. I appreciated the availability of a single room along with a corresponding price.||The hotel was walking distance to town where there were other restaurants as well as a decent sized Netto (grocery store). The lake views from both my room and the back yard were beautiful. ||The only thing I would change would be an in room mini fridge )admittedly I didn’t ask for one so they may have some on site.)

Always love returning to this beautiful hotel. Setting is stunning, staff are lovely especially Yang (I think that’s how it’s spelt) at reception, and Chris in the restaurant. Food is excellent, although would be nice to see a few more options on the menu but really can’t fault the food!!

Quite nice hotel, comfortable beds, very good view and very kice staff. Did not try the spa (preffered the public swimmingpool) but it looked nice. Breakfast somewhat to the dull side as there were no ther options than scrambled eggs and the breads were not that amazing, beside that nice place.
