Warning: As soon as you arrive at the parking area, you’ll be approached by so-called “guides” who try to charge ridiculous amounts of money for a tour to the waterfall, supposedly “for the community.” I’ve seen reviews mentioning 150,000 IDR per person, but we were just two people and were asked for 500,000 IDR. What!! And that was only for a tour to one waterfall. To see all three, they wanted 1.5 million IDR. When we asked to see a sign with the official price, the guide couldn’t show us one. Do not fall for this. You can simply walk down by yourself; the actual entrance fee is around 40,000 IDR per person.
When we refused to pay that amount, the whole demeanor of the guide changed immediately. It went from “friendly and helpful” to noticeably irritated and pushy.
Further down, there are several small shops where women try very aggressively to sell you things, which adds even more pressure to the experience. And at the waterfall itself, there are three very young children working, which was honestly heartbreaking to see.
The waterfall itself is beautiful, and the path down is absolutely walkable, just keep in mind that some stairs are steep and can be slippery.
But despite the natural beauty, I would personally skip GitGit because of the constant pressure, arguments, and unpleasant interactions with the “guides” and sellers. There are plenty of other stunning waterfalls in Bali where you can enjoy the experience without being overcharged or harassed.
