This gite is perched above the town (and lake) of Castellane, making it convenient for hikers and also drivers following the Route Napoleon or folks enjoying the gorges of the Verdon. Ideal for a bit of tranquility, as it is really quiet up there, yet not hard to access as it is right on an actual highway, the D402. In addition to the fancy and inexpensive dinners that must be reserved in advance they offer a respectable wine list on their dining room blackboard, and many flavors of artisanal ice cream. The living room has reading material and games as well as the view. You can hear cowbells in the late afternoon, and the village church is just next door. Clean and friendly. Charming, calm, not "fancy" but neither is it lacking any creature comforts that we could imagine.Breakfast was excellent--pain au chocolate, fromage frais, local preserves, good rustic bread, choice of beverages hot and cold and even some cold cereals.||The main features, however, are the priceless view, which is not always accessible via highway, and charming, energetic proprietor. .It is small so there is an element of luck and/or preplanning to get a room.
