We had a lovely time. The host was very helpful and super friendly. The location is just an hour drive from the ski slopes and it was great to have a nice raclette by the fire after a good day of skiing. The rooms were both spacious and comfortable. We’ll definitely go back!

Beautifully situated in the hills with stunning views. The accomodation was a shared room. The room was clean and bright with 3 bunk beds. The great thing was that there were only a couple of people in the hostel and our host put us in separate rooms, normally in hostels everyone get stuck in the same room regardless of how many people are in, well done!|Downside is that the fire does not supply bedding although you can rent a sheet for 1Euro.|If your staying you need to book a meal, my booking got lost ( turned out to be my fault, right dates wrong month!)|Our host sorted something out for me and I got fed and very tasty it was too.|There is a bar and some outside sitting areas.|Breakfast is substantial with plenty to eat.|Downsides, WiFi was intermittent and phone signals are also sporadic but it's worth it.|The gite is in the middle of the country and there is nothing nearby, be prepared!|If hostels are not your thing I believe other accomodation is available.|Good value, quiet location, good food and drink, great host and pleasant and friendly guests. What's not to like.

This is a wonderful gite (b&b) in la Baume close to Castellane and a beautiful lake. Excellent as starting point for sports or relaxation. The owners Alice and Matthieu are very friendly, the rooms clean, the breakfast is very good and the dinner is excellent! Take the home cooked 3 course dinner, it's defenitely worth it! Continue 2,5 km on the road (walk or run) and see the both beautiful lakes meet after the next small village. Thank you Alice and Matthieu, we will be back!

A really authentic, charming gite, run by a friendly, young couple. The food -both breakfast and dinner - was delicious, excellent quality and value. The dining room/lounge area is cosy and inviting and there’s also a covered outside area with bench seating - great for an after dinner drink and a smoke. The bedroom was cosy and beautifully and thoughtfully decorated, with several fixtures and fittings artistically crafted by the owners themselves. The only caveat is the rather late check in time of 17.00 hours - if you arrive early, like we did, you have to go all the way back to Castellane for a coffee/light refreshment, as there are no shops or cafes in Baume. Although the gite’s website does mention the check in time, this is not mentioned on the booking confirmation - if it had been, it would have saved us having to retrace our route back to Castellane, to kill an hour.

This gite is perched above the town (and lake) of Castellane, making it convenient for hikers and also drivers following the Route Napoleon or folks enjoying the gorges of the Verdon. Ideal for a bit of tranquility, as it is really quiet up there, yet not hard to access as it is right on an actual highway, the D402. In addition to the fancy and inexpensive dinners that must be reserved in advance they offer a respectable wine list on their dining room blackboard, and many flavors of artisanal ice cream. The living room has reading material and games as well as the view. You can hear cowbells in the late afternoon, and the village church is just next door. Clean and friendly. Charming, calm, not "fancy" but neither is it lacking any creature comforts that we could imagine.Breakfast was excellent--pain au chocolate, fromage frais, local preserves, good rustic bread, choice of beverages hot and cold and even some cold cereals.||The main features, however, are the priceless view, which is not always accessible via highway, and charming, energetic proprietor. .It is small so there is an element of luck and/or preplanning to get a room.

Stunning views, quiet and in the middle of the country. Rooms clean, hosts friendly and helpful. Food ( evening meal needs to be booked in advance) great, breakfast substantial. WiFi is sporadic and slow and phone signals vary. Worth a visit! And it has a bar!

This place in the mountains 8 kilometers from Castellane, where we rented a chambre d'hote for a couple of nights, deserves four points because of four things:|1. The friendliness, care and eagerness of the young hosts Matthieu and Alice and the honest food in the restaurant and the whole atmosphere.|2. The absolute perfect situation in the landscape with a view over lake Castillon, the mountains and forests.|3. The bliss of the silence away from the hustle and bustle in Castellane|4. The interesting surroundings including:|A temple for the tiny religion "aumism" which at a distance resembles a big Buddhist sacred town - but is in fact the hideout for a peculiar and controversial sect. You can get guides tours there. |Good opportunities for shorter and longer hikes in the mountains.|Note: We would like to point out to the hosts, though, that it is not a good idea to use rubber blankets in the beds... We understand, they want to protect the mattresses , but rubber is a very unpleasant material to sleep on!
