Gîte le Chamoniard Volant

Not sure what to make of this place. Reminds me of the old free bothy huts you find wandering the hills of Scotland only this one is far from free. No linen just a bare mattress with one scratchy blanket and a wad roll lump they call a pillow. With temperature outside minus 6 they must expect everyone to sleep in ski gear. Bathrooms were dirty. Mould still there all through shower curtains. At 6 ft 2 the toilets space is a joke. Safe lockers non exist. So it's a family run business but none take the time to ever see what customers experience. As a seasoned traveler who previous night stayed in Geneva hostel which rated 5 stars on every category this place is instead a real disappointment. Over demand in Chamonix is all that keeps this place charging for so little return.

Super friendly, helpful and empathetic staff at this hostel! Great athmosphere overall and clean, comfy rooms and bathrooms. I highly recommend the Gîte! My friend and I arrived horribly sick at the hostel and not only did they help us find resources for medical care, but also organized a different room for our bunkmates (so they wouldn't get sick), enabled us to extend our stay last minute and researched return travel options for us. They helped us so much. I can't thank them enough and recommend this hostel!

Location and employees was really nice. Is just I choosed it last moment and I had to sleep in 18person’s room and I felt so uncomfortable. What I like is they provide carte d’hote and with that u can travel on train any time/ in certain areas. I loved it!

All I can say is… you get what you pay for. The showers are disgusting with no space to put clothes. There is black mould on the shower curtains and walls. The rooms smell bad and the room I was in had access to another room with only one door so technically an 8 bed dorm. The kitchen facilities are good. The location is good, only 15ish minute walk to town.

The people running this place are the sweetest and so helpful! My friend and I sadly got sick while traveling and they were really understanding. We were supposed to stay with 2 other people, but they managed to put them in a different room. We could extend on a short notice when we weren't feeling better. Thank you so much!!!

Being one of the most affordable hostels in Chamonix, it is good for few nights with clean washrooms. The room size is small and at first does not have a great impression, but the overall atmosphere is amazing. You will meet warm people from different countries in the kitchen and dining area, you will have great stories to hear and you will enjoy your time being in this hostel! We had booked 3 beds for 1 night in a single room for 103 euros through booking dot com.

Perfect stay. Very safe, locks on doors. Male receptionist is so kind and helpful to all and very knowledgeable. Beds are comfy, clean. Will miss this place very much!

I had a nice 4 nights stay here in a 4 bed dorm room. This is a very OG style budget hostel, so no frills to be expected. It is a time jump in the 80's or so:) The hostel is very clean and warm in the winter time, so big thumbs up for that! I got also very good service from the guys, so Thank You! The only downside is the lack of modern services like coat hangers, enough electric sockets to charge your phone/Camera/etc as there was only one socket in 4 bed dorm! The beds and pillows are ok for a night, but for more it might not be that comfortable. So with very little extra effort this place could earn many extra stars, If they would invest some little money on these little missing things. The location was nice close to walk 15min to the center or jump into the ski bus. The shared kitchen was very handy to cook your meals. The simple breakfast served by the hostel is not worth the 9€ cost as it was only coffee, cup of Juice, cereals and bread with butter: no proteins etc. In The center many hotels offer a full buffet style breakfast for any guest for 15€! All in all this was nice budget style stay, with some things that could be approved to keep this hostel up to date.
