The 16 Best Historical Sites in the World (Updated 2025)

"Standing over 3,000 years old, the Pyramids at Giza are a marvel of engineering—precise, aligned with stars and solstices, and still mystery-laden because we lack a full explanation of how they were built or how so many chambers remain inaccessible; the Great Pyramid (built by Khufu) has limited access, and I recommend visiting via a guided tour from Cairo for context and convenience." - Matthew Kepnes

the last standing wonder of the ancient world. it was so amazing in person and much cooler than i thought. lots of hagglers but just ignore them. so much to see. i spent 3hrs here which is enough. free roaming and you can get to spots where there are no or very few people. really amazing place. you can ride a camel which they charge 1k but you can negotiate to nearly half that. don’t let them intimate you. HOW TO GET TICKETS-tickets were easily attainable by a self service kiosk for 700 egp or ~15 usd as a foreigner adult. they take visa and mastercard. quick and easy HOW TO GET AROUND- they have free shuttle buses that take you to many stops along the way including the main pyramids and the sphinx.

An experience of a lifetime. Well organized, with buses to take you between the sites. You can roam freely as much as you want.

The Pyramids of Egypt are one of the most iconic and awe-inspiring sights in the world. Located just outside Cairo, the three main pyramids at Giza — Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure — are architectural marvels that have stood for over 4,500 years. The sheer size and precision of the Great Pyramid leave visitors speechless. Standing before it, you can’t help but wonder how such massive structures were built without modern technology. Exploring the inside adds to the thrill, with narrow passageways leading deep into ancient chambers. Beyond their scale, the pyramids are rich in mystery and history. Built as tombs for pharaohs, they reflect the ancient Egyptians' deep beliefs about the afterlife and their incredible engineering skills. The nearby Sphinx adds to the atmosphere — silent, majestic, and equally enigmatic. Tips! Go early to beat the heat, hire a local guide for insights, and bring water. Whether you're into history, architecture, or just amazing views, the pyramids are a must-see. Truly a timeless wonder.

Just until a few months ago, and on my ninth visit, I would have given the place a 1/5, but with the current improvements under ORASCOM, I can confidently say that the harassing horsemen, and the trashy vendors have been sidelined. The AC'ed busses and back and forth transportaction are excellent as well.

It’s impossible not to give the Pyramids of Giza five stars. They are colossal, timeless, and humbling. Every photo you’ve ever seen still doesn’t prepare you for how absurdly massive they are. But here’s the ugly truth: the experience is exhausting. The moment you set foot near the site, you become a walking ATM. Answer a question? Pay. Look at someone’s camel? Pay. Smile? Pay. There are fake guides, fake ticket helpers, fake parking attendants, and fake camel owners multiplying like bacteria around every corner. It makes Marrakech look like Switzerland. What could have been a spiritual, awe-inspiring moment in front of one of humanity’s greatest achievements turns into a relentless battle of “no thank you” every ten seconds. It’s chaotic, dishonest, and frankly gives Egypt a terrible image. Visit once in your life, because it’s history at its purest. But be ready to fight off a small army of hustlers before you even glimpse the Sphinx.

I came from Algeria 🇩🇿 to visit the Pyramids and it was absolutely breathtaking. Seeing one of the world's greatest wonders in person was truly special. The atmosphere the history and the view everything was unforgettable!
