How to Plan a Ski Trip to Alyeska Resort

"A guiding company that runs snowmobile excursions a short drive from town, offering trips to a private gold-mine basin (complete with a fire-pit lunch) and tours out to blue glaciers, icebergs, and ice caves; guides and anecdotes (including encounters with a free-roaming Alaskan husky) make the outings memorable." - Evie Carrick Evie Carrick Evie Carrick is a writer and editor who’s lived in five countries and visited well over 50. She now splits her time between Colorado and Paris, ensuring she doesn't have to live without skiing or L'As du Fallafel. Travel + Leisure Editorial Guidelines

We booked the glacier tour on our vacation to Alaska this spring. Unfortunately, they weren't experiencing much snow this year and we were unable to do that tour. We went ahead and opted for the scenic tour since we were all excited to ride a snowmobile for our first time ever. Our experience was great. We loved the snowmobiles, had a fun time on the path, had guides that made sure we were having a fun time and they even changed things up so that the slower people were able to go the speed they wanted, but everyone wasn't forced to go that slow. Our teens had an awesome time and got in some thrills on the path while checking out the great mountain views. We rode for some time, stopped for some reindeer sausage and rode briefly again before heading out. I would have liked a shorter break to eat and a little more ride time, but the reindeer sausage was tasty and we had a great day. Like others who have been on the tour we did just go in circles on a path on some private property. (Where we live people regularly do this with four wheelers on dirt paths through the woods, so it was a similar experience with a different machine through the snow and amazing views.) We didn't really know what to expect , but we imagined we'd be going out more into the wilderness to ride, rather than just a track. That's probably unrealistic! Who knows. Even so, we would do it again and recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Best guides in town. They teach to everything on how drive a snowmobile and safety precautions while driving. Very cool and patience crew. I would love meet them again. I did this active on last year April. Still remember those beautiful moments

Originally we booked the snowmobile tour to the glacier, but it was canceled due to the weather condition. The company offered us a Scenic Mountain tour instead and we had no regrets. It was our second snowmobile tour during the vacation, so we were “experienced “riders and had lots of fun The tour was phenomenal. We had quite a large group of participants, but guides took a great care of us . They divided our group on 2 , so everyone could have fun and enjoy the tour according to the level of comfort and experience. Half way through the excursion we stopped for a lunch. They served a reindeer hotdog and a beverage by the campfire. We really had a memorable time worth every penny! Thank you!

We had an amazing time on the scenic mountain tour with Glacier City! The visibility didn’t help with the views but it’s understandable that Mother Nature always gets a vote with outdoor activities. Nevertheless, Stephen and Erica ensured that we had a blast and brought great energy the entire time! We definitely enjoyed ourselves and would recommend this tour to anyone

Brother and I had a blast. It was a tedious ride down to Spencer Glacier bc of some first time riders with our group but it was all worth it in the end. We were absolutely in awe of the majestic beauty of the mountains and glacier and so glad we went. Thankfully things were much quicker on the way back with a great deal more freedom in where you can ride and how fast. No food or water is provided and there are no restrooms out there. Experienced riders may feel held back, this isn’t about the ride as much as the destination, we averaged about 15 mph.
