Absolutely fantastic meal! Beautiful garden, friendly service. Everyone from ages 12-82 loved it! Leave room for the Hungarian dessert dumplings and try the quince schnapps!

Google
waited quite a lot for our food (probably bc it was freshly fried, but that’s just nonsense when someone arrives later than us and gets to pay until we receive main), the schnitzel (pork) was average, had bigger expectations. Service wasn’t the best, at some point we didn’t know when to expect food. Once told to one waiter, it arrived soon. Probably a busy weekend, but I guess you csn find better schnitzel for your buck and better places. Obviously the closeness of museums are a big pro.

Google
Food was consistently good with some misses: the potato salad with snitzel wasn’t amazing taste wise, potatoes not fully cooked, the snitzel crust was very good, but overall, a bit dry. For 25eur, some sauce can be considered. The dumplings however, were very very good and the salad was perfect. Service was friendlier than usual Viennese.

Google
Essential address for natural wine and traditional Austrian dishes with a modern twist in Vienna Good modern interpretations of traditional Austrian dishes served in a relaxed garden setting (an indoor restaurant area is also available if the weather is not so great or you prefer things a bit more formal) with a great selection of Austrian and international natural wines. Our seasonal starters of bean salad with sheep's cheese (Käferbohnensalat) and Kohlrabicarpaccio with radishes, pistachios and parsley dressing were both excellent and the Gemischtes Gekochtes vom Rind was a very good modern take on the Austrian classic Tafelspitz prepared with cuts of beef organically sourced from the Waldviertel region. Some of the more popular options were not available once we got to the dessert course but the Somlauer Nockerl recommended by our waitress were also a delicious surprise if you like your desserts rich, creamy and chocolatey! Service was informal and friendly and the sommelier recommended a really nice bottle of Grüner Veltliner from Kremstal to go with our meal plus some other interesting natural wines by the glass to further satisfy our curiosity and bring the evening pleasantly to a close. Don't hesitate to ask for recommendations if you want to explore Austrian natural wines or try something different! ☺️

Google
Beautiful spot, inside and out. Service was quite friendly, especially by Viennese standards. I've had many Wiener Schnitzels in many different places and this one was one of the best I've had. Salad was really great too. Not cheap, but well worth it in my opinion. I'm lucky enough to get to Vienna quite regularly, and I will surely be coming back.

Google
We tried the two Vienese schnitzels - the pork and the original veal. Veal was a bit on the dry side, while the pork was nice. The sides that accompanied it were nice, the berry jam in particular. The service was fast and efficient. The seats can be very small and crammed depending on your location in the restaurant. The restaurant is popular and can get busy and moderately noisy.

Google
We booked this restaurant on the basis of online reviews and the evening was meant to be a culinary highlight. It was actually the poorest dining experience of our week in Vienna. I’d seen the website photos of a lovely garden area, and tables with crisp linen. The Google summary of a ‘stylish and intimate venue’ sounded perfect. However we were allocated a table in the ‘cafe area’ quite near the toilets. The online menu says there is a cover charge which includes tablecloths, napkins and a bread basket (fortunately this wasn’t charged as none of it was in evidence as on the interior/inferior tables there were no tablecloths and the napkins were paper). Cutlery was sitting on a metal plate on the table along with the serviettes when we were seated. We were given tap water which was warm. They are obviously extremely busy, but the restaurant really doesn’t live up to the hype that is surrounding it. Service was efficient, but not friendly. Quite offhand. We were in and out in 45 minutes as we didn’t want to linger when we were looking onto diners seated at the kind of tables we were expecting. Had we been walk-ins, I might have been ok with this location, but not with pre-booking. There are loads of wines on display at entrance, but no wine list was offered. We would probably have bought a bottle of red had we been given the option. We ordered the Weiner schnitzel and pierogi. The food in general was mediocre. The accompanying salads might be ok if you’re a huge fan of Sarsons (bog-standard malt vinegar). The green salad that came with pierogi was just lettuce leaves doused in vinegar and I had to leave most of it. The pierogi themselves were flavourless and pasty. The Wiener schnitzel was dry, and not as appetising as the numerous others we’d seen when at various restaurants. We regret wasting one of our limited evenings in Vienna dining here and hope this review helps someone else to avoid making the same mistake.

Google
Very nice place for lunch and dinner. Classic Austrian restaurant with a twist. Everything we had was tasty. Amazing wine list with lots of options at very good prices. Would definitely recommend the goulash.

Yelp
Top of the stairs and difficult to find by the Museum quarter, Austrian food with daily specials. Pluses Gimlet was festive and tasty Lingonberry side a plus Bathrooms very clean Outdoor dining available Plenty of hooks to hang clothes Areas to improve We ordered a special fizzy organic wine of the day and it was sour and not to our liking. Ghoulash was just okay. Parsley potatoes were just okay. Service is typical, does take some time for food to arrive. Recommended if you are hungry and nearby.

Yelp
Glacis Beisl is a bit tricky to find--I'd recommend using Google Maps to navigate. Once you arrive, you'll descend steps into a charming patio area, reminiscent of a traditional Viennese Heuriger. Although I've visited several times over the years, I've always opted to dine inside, where the ambiance is warm and inviting. One unique feature for Vienna is that they usually have a host to greet you, which is uncommon for many local restaurants. That said, the place can get quite busy, so it's best to call ahead and make reservations, especially for dinner. During dinner, they typically charge a place cover, which includes a tablecloth, cloth napkin, bread, and Liptauer (a paprika spread), a small but thoughtful touch. Their menu features Viennese classics like Schnitzel, Tafelspitz (slow boiled beef), and Goulash, along with a selection of rotating seasonal dishes--like white asparagus in spring and game meat in the fall. During our visit, we ordered the Tafelspitz, which came with chive sauce, apple horseradish, and Rösti (potato pancakes). We also had the Paprikahendl (chicken paprikash). The Tafelspitz was soft and flavorful, a true Viennese classic done right. Unfortunately, the Paprikahendl was disappointing--overcooked and dry, likely reheated, which was a bit of a letdown. Their soups are a real highlight, especially the bouillon, which was rich and perfectly seasoned. However, the desserts stole the show. We indulged in the Topfenknoedel (sweet cheese dumplings) with fresh jam and cream, as well as a Parfait. Both were outstanding--the Topfenknoedel were light and delicious, while the Parfait had a perfect consistency and was absolutely decadent. We paired our desserts with some local dry champagne, which was pleasant and complemented the meal nicely. Service, unfortunately, can be hit or miss. This time, we were on the unlucky side, as we weren't checked on regularly, which slightly dampened the overall experience. Despite the inconsistencies, Glacis Beisl remains a solid spot for traditional Viennese cuisine with a touch of modernity. Just make sure to call ahead and hope for a good service day!

Yelp
You don't need to reserve a spot if you just show up when they open. Food was just okay for me - the radish carpaccio was the highlight from the meal. I wasn't a fan of the goulash (a tad bit on the salty side and had to be eaten with the dumplings + bread). The stuffed dumplings with sauerkraut was better but tasted somewhat bland, which worked out with the goulash as a combo. Skip the homemade lemonade as it turned out to be lightly flavored water.

Yelp
Amazing lunch on the beautiful patio...food , service and ambience...all 5* Thank you for the recommendation Gerhard!

Yelp
It had been 10 years and I couldn't wait to come back here. Anticipating wiener schnitzel and accompanying layered salad. However, the memory quickly faded. The food was not as good as I remembered. The veal was chewy and sinewy with little flavor. Luckily they brought more lemon wedges which brightened the flavor but made the breading soggy. The layered salad was just a bowl of salads thrown in haphazardly. Our waitress was surly and extremely unfriendly. She rushed us through our meal ("too late to order dessert kitchen closed at 10"). She ruined it. She should be fired. It's amazing how poor service can tarnish a visit. Postscript: We went back a few days later and sat inside and were served by the wonderful Natasha who lavished attention on us. Even though it was summer, and very hot, I had to have the goulash--a heaping portion that was tender, flavorful, and delicious. I will come back here every time I visit, it is the ultimate Viennese experience.

Yelp
12/12/22 Figured if we were to try the wiener schnitzel anywhere, this would be a good place to try it. Pretty bland and dry for my liking, I ended up using the gravy sauce from the roasted duck dish and it was better. The duck was okay, but wasn't the most tender. The dumplings were so-so.

Yelp
Great food, great location. We'll be back for sure. Service was outstanding. Would love to be sble to visit later at night.

Chloe W.

Yelp
Came for the roast duck but it wasn't on the menu this time Sunday night + no reservation = coupling table. Server was excellent though. Food was ok but can't compare with other restaurants since it was our first meal in Vienna. Much lighter flavor than US counterpart and less variety.

Yelp
This restaurant is a very pretty place. Looks like you're eating in a forest Ordered the beef broth and the bread basket for starter. For dinner my husband and I both ordered the Wiener schnitzel. It's definitely worth trying. Eat early, inside, or make reservations on weekends. They get busy.

Yelp
We enjoyed dinner in the garden at Glacis Beisl. The garden is full of plants & quite pretty and intimate, tucked away behind the Museumsquartier. Food was solid, nothing exceptional -- about 3 stars in general. I tried Smoked bacon, which was a cold starter: sliced pieces of smoked bacon, served with pickle and grated horseradish. It was fine. Chanterelle Mushrooms in cream sauce with bread dumplings were fine and pretty much exactly as I'd expect, nothing wrong and nothing exceptional. Dumplings were soft. I ordered berry juice from the menu, but without comment or warning, I received it gespritzt (watered down with soda, in a huge glass). Service was mixed and not always helpful. It was getting very cold that night, so I asked my server for a blanket after noticing that diners at other tables had blankets. Our server gave an ambivalent response along the lines of "I'll check, I'm not sure where all the blankets are". After waiting a while in the cold and not hearing back from our server, I asked the host for blankets; he helpfully brought me a blanket a couple minutes later. I don't think the server ever bothered to check on the blankets as promised.

Yelp
I have been off Yelp for a little while but this place has totally re-inspired me!!! The ambiance is amazing, especially on their outdoor patio, and the drinks are very well priced! My roommate and I became regulars here during our month in Vienna, and especially enjoyed the house white win and gin and tonics. Totally recommend this spot for when you are near the museum Quartier!
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
Glacis Beisl serves very authentic Austrian food. The outdoor patio was really nice for dinner as the evening we went, the weather was perfect. They have English menu so ordering was straight forward. Service was excellent but the prices were higher than most other places we looked at. We had the Wiener schnitzel as it was recommended by our waiter. It was little bland in my humble opinion even with the cranberry sauce it was served with. The salad came with some diced up beets and boiled potatoes but again little on the bland side. The boiled prime rib was very tender and good cut of meat but it came in a pool of broth and was more like soup than a cut of meat. I'm sure it's exactly how they are supposed to be but for the price we paid, we expected little more flavor. Overall, 5 stars for atmosphere and service, but food was lacking.

Yelp
Busy, buzzing neighbourhood beisl, tucked ( literally) into a little gap between flats and the Museum Quartier. Food is standard , hearty Austrian fare- even the goats cheese salad I had as a starter could best be described as "hefty". Pierogi ( as a main dish) could double as sandbags. Gets very busy at weekends- also worth knowing it is often open on public holidays when other local establishments may be shut.

Yelp
Very classic Austrian place, nice grapevine terrace. We had the Onion and the Beef soups followed by Wiener Schnitzel and Blood pudding with a glass of local red table wine. Expectations were met. Pleasant though not very memorable experience

Yelp
on arrival in Vienna, we didn't feel like straying too far from the hotel and exploring and asked for a recommendation from the hotel (which, of course, can be risky). but this recommendation was great. it's in an area with a bunch of restaurants and bars there is outdoor seating and service is very nice. we had potato goulash which was excellent and a guinea hen. the starter was a soft cheese with roasted vegetables I realize after a few days, that beer choices are a bit limited. it's more of a wine culture. I don't normally drink much beer but it seems to go better with the food here

Yelp
This is a good place to come to get traditional Austrian food - they have large, generous portions and the food is quite good. If you want to come here for dinner, make a reservation ahead of time - we tried to come on a Thursday evening and they were all booked up for the evening. We were able to come back the next day for lunch and get a table, but it was pretty crowded and busy. They have a lovely outdoor garden and eating/drinking area which I'm sure is fantastic in the summer. We ended up sharing 2 appetizers and 1 main dish, and we were stuffed - we could have probably done just fine with one appetizer and one main dish, as the appetizers were quite large. Smoked Trout Mousse - I really liked this appetizer and would definitely get it again. There was a good amount of trout mousse (2 balls, each maybe the size of a racquetball), and it came with some lettuce. You can eat this with the complimentary bread they bring for the table, which goes quite well. I'd recommend this and would definitely get this again. Beef Soup with Vegetables & Dumplings (€ 3,80) - This was inexpensive, a large bowl topped with dumplings. The soup was a beef broth and was flavorful but not too salty, and it was perfect for a cold day. Everyone seemed to be getting the pumpkin cream soup around me, so that must be a popular soup. Schnitzel with side salad (€ 19,20) - We ordered schnitzel because you can't come to Vienna and not get schnitzel at least once. The veal was very thin and it had a lot of breading (as most schnitzel has) - it was good and huge (2 people can probably share this). I liked the salad that came with this - it had potatoes, beets, and lettuce on top with a mustardy sauce. Overall, large portions - authentic food and crowd (it seemed like there were a lot of locals here), and reasonable prices. I would give this 4.5 stars if you're looking for traditional Austrian food. There aren't a ton of healthy or vegetarian options on the menu, and I wouldn't come back here every week or every month if I lived in Vienna since they don't seem to change the menu too often. If you're visiting Vienna, this is a good pick for lunch if you want to walk-in, or for dinner if you can make a reservation ahead of time. The most popular dishes it looked like everyone was ordering was the pumpkin cream soup, the dumplings over cabbage, the trout with potatoes, and the schnitzel.

Yelp
We went out of our way to find this restaurant, and we were very happy we did. It is hidden away from the touristy area, near Museumsquartier. Ordered: 1) Smoky bacon with horseradish shavings: 2/5 eh, I would pass on this 2) Dumpling with Crackling Pork: 4/5 omg...this was soo good! My first time eating something like this! 3) Beef Goulash: 3/5 eh, this was okay even though the beef was so soft and tender House bread is included (need to ask), but we were charged for butter when I asked for some to go with my bread...I thought that was strange...

David H.

Yelp
My favorite place in Vienna. Schnitzel was divine. Very friendly staff and easy restaurant on the edge of museum quarter. Also has a great bar with a very cool outside area to hang out in.

Yelp
Coming from California and this is my first time in Vienna and I wanted to try delicious traditional Viennese cuisine. My experience was memorable. The ambiance and food is truly worthy of remembering someday. Kathryn was courteous, amiable and very informative. .

Yelp
A romantic spot with a magical garden, this restaurant was one of my favorites in Vienna. Regretfully, we only came for dessert, but I would have loved to experience a full meal. If the food is anything like the dessert, it's well thought out, balanced, flavorful, and bold. Get the chocolate cake if it's on the menu. The ambience was somewhat low key, yet busy simultaneously. The service was phenomenal, our waiter had great recommendations for the menu and Vienna in general. I wouldn't hesitate to return here.

Yelp
We ran into this restaurant randomly when hanging around in the area and we were lucky for the selection and very fortunate to have a table. It was a blast... Next time we reserve spot in advance. The food was very good, the service was great, excellent atmosphere and reasonable prices. We had Viennese Schnitzel, soup, Traut (Forel) fish and salad. All was tasty, fresh and decent portion. This restaurant is highly recommended.
google avatar

Clare E.

Yelp
Very affordable prices, but the service and ambiance feels more high end. Great place for a comfortable romantic dinner without spending too much. We shared the ravioli appetizer, pork roast with pretzel dumpling main course, and the chocolate mousse cake. The ravioli was very average, probably not worth getting again. The pork was delicious! Very well prepared, flavorful and the gravy was excellent. The dumplings were new for us but we enjoyed those as well. The mousse cake was delicious! Overall we really enjoyed the experience, which is why I'm giving five stars, even if our appetizer was a bit of a miss. Plus the bread and fish-y mousse they serve on the table was so good!
google avatar

Cindy H.

Yelp
Get place to have weiner schnitzel, it was recommended by a local Viennese. It has a nice outdoor garden. They offer a English menu. I forgot the name of the fish but it was really good. We finished it all! Great restaurant to enjoy the weather and food.

Yelp
The restaurant is a beautiful lush sanctuary tucked behind the city buildings. Incredible food and wine. The staff was friendly. 10/10

Yelp
This was my favorite meal during our time in Austria. Everything about this bistro is awesome: the location (art/museum district), the setting and outside garden area, the atmosphere and adornments inside, and the food, of course. You can just feel, hear, and see the energy of this place, and it only added to the pleasant experience we had here. We were lucky in two parts when we first stepped in. We didn't have a reservation but it wasn't a problem, and we were seated in a semi-private and very comfortable booth that allowed us to really feel and witness the vibe here. The menu was intimidating. Everything sounded good and I wanted a bite of it all. I narrowed it down and was kind of set on two different dishes, not really sure which one to choose, but when it came time to order I called an audible. So glad I did because I scored a touchdown with the Tiroler Spinatknödel, a special of the day. These spinach dumplings were served with brown butter, walnuts, and topped with thin slices of Bergkäse (mountain cheese), and a salad on the side. It didn't look fancy, but the flavors were just perfect: savory and delicious! My wife had ordered the Grammelknödel (dumplings filled with pork cracklings) with sauerkraut which was really good, but we both knew who ordered the better dish this time around. ;o)

Yelp
We came here on our first night in Vienna. We arrived a little late for our reservation as our flight had been delayed but the staff were friendly and didn't mind at all. They're very attentive (we're used to less attentive waiting staff back home in Paris). We had a complimentary mousse with bread on our table when we arrived which meant we skipped starters to go straight for the mains. I had pork cracklings dumplings which were delicious and my boyfriend had a gigantic portion of schnitzel, which he also loved. We washed this all down which some lovely Austrian wine. Great start to our trip!

Yelp
This place is a great mix of traditional Austrian food and modern gastropub. Traveling with my dad and brother, they want to eat only traditional foods from where we visit, which I'm totally into, but I also miss the exciting new flavors and combinations from my favorite spots back home - so this was the perfect mix. The place is super chic and comfortable and the staff is very friendly. Prices weren't too terrible, but I don't really know what is a normal priced meal in Vienna yet. The outside garden is beautiful - definitely go there if it's nice out. I got the apple-asparagus soup to start which was really good. I couldn't taste the apple, but the soup was frothy and light but still filling and substantial. My brother got this beef platter that was really juicy and melted in your mouth. It also came with a pretty bomb.com latke. The waiter recommended the dish as it was our first night in Vienna. My dad got a schnitzel dish, which he seemed to enjoy (but I don't eat veal so didn't give it a try). It came with a really fresh salad with beats and potatoes. I got the quinoa, tofu, spinach "pan" which came with a curry sauce. I was expecting a formed pancake type of dish, but it was more of sautéed spinach, tofu, and veggies, mixed with quinoa and a curry sauce on top. Really good even if it wasn't what I expected. Would definitely recommend this place during your visit to Vienna!

Yelp
A nice, modern restaurant, which offers several Viennese dishes. I decided on the goulash, which is an excellent choice. Very tender pieces of beef in a well-flavored sauce. A small pickle offers a palate cleanser every few bites, which was an amazing touch. I also had a Weissebier with my meal, which complimented it nicely. Might've gotten the house beer if I had to do it again. Service is fairly standard for Europe, very quick to get drinks and meal ordered, but had to put in effort to ask for the check. Did not detract from the experience at all.

Yelp
I rarely give 5 star ratings and this is a true 5!! I mean it. Starting with the service, they were so kind we felt like royalty. The food recommendations were also on point. Beef cooked to perfection, so tender with flavor. I would recommend this spot for sure if you're in Vienna!! Don't miss out. Must get reservations.
google avatar

Yelp
We didn't have reservations so we were initially sat at a communal table across from the bar but after we ordered we were moved to a booth. We started with the pumpkin soup and we were served brown bread. The soup was excellent, and had a wonderfully full flavor. The BF ordered the dumplings stuffed with pork cracklings. The pork dumplings were surrounded by sauerkraut; it had a good flavor but the BF thought it was too salty. The dumplings themselves were really good. I ordered the roast goose and it was very good, with a rich sauce. I've never had goose before. It came with beets (excellent) and potato dumplings. Parts of the goose was overcooked but since it was a big portion I ate my fill and didn't get to that part. A nice first meal in Vienna.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for dinner on a Monday night at about 5. When we walked in, they said that the tables were all reserved for the night, but that we could have one if we finished before 7. We didn't plan to stay that long anyway, so we were happy to be seated. I ordered an appetizer plate and a soup (see my photo) which were delicious! The appetizer plate had thinly sliced pork belly garnished with tiny sprigs of thyme and served with beautiful purple potatoes and cooked onions. It was very tasty! I mean, pork belly = lots of fat. It was tender and well seasoned and just so yummy! The clear beef broth soup had two sort of dumplings in it made from polenta, I think. It also had diced carrots in it. The broth was warm and rich and flavorful; it was just what I needed after a day of walking around the city! K. had a dish with two extremely large "dumplings" that had pork something inside. I thought it was pretty good and he loved it! He'll probably write his own review of the restaurant, too, so read that for his perspective. We were seated quickly, the food came out within a reasonable amount of time, our server was friendly, and the bill came to only 20 euros. That was an amazing price for the quality of the food that we had. I would definitely recommend that you check out this place! Your best bet would probably be to call ahead to make a reservation, just in case!

Yelp
We liked this place so much we went back 2 days later. Right next to the Museum Quarter, along the back of the Modern Museum, it has a lovely garden for outdoor dining. In cooler weather, which we had when we were there last week, the inside dining room feels like you are outdoors--with tall wide windows to the garden. A mix of classic Austrian dishes preparedly expertly and more modern cuisine, there is something for every taste. Smoked bacon with fresh ground horse-radish was a wonderfully delicious appetiser. Their fresh beet salad was a hit. Weiner Schnitzel, made with veal, is tender, and light tasting. Served with lingonberry sauce it was a highlight. Same for the warm potato salad. We tried this dish at every place we ate in Vienna--this was the best. They do a very good Hungarian Goulash too. On our second visit I had their veal filet, with mushroom sauce and parsley mashed potatoes. My wife had pumpkin soup and a kid-sized chicken schnitzel (she wasn't hungry that day). Both were also very good. The service is professional and friendly. This place is a find!

Yelp
TL;DR - If you're looking for beisl dining in the city, this is the place. This place was recommended in our guide book so we decided to give it a try. It's *incredibly* central, located immediately behind the Museums Quarter, but is tucked away such that it's hard to find. You won't find it easily from the Museums Quarter itself - if you walk along Breite Gasse towards Karl-Schweighofer-Gasse you can't miss the sign for it on the left hand side; then go down the stairs and turn right. Hidden gem doesn't even come close. It's hard to believe that this secluded leafy courtyard is here so close to all the tourist attractions. The place is clearly well known though - it was packed when we arrived and we struggled to get a table. Sparky had some some amazing pork filled dumplings and I had a massive plate of a very tasty goulash. Prices were reasonable, food was good and service was polite and friendly although the staff did seem a bit pressured simply due to how busy the place was.

Yelp
On our trip to Vienna, this was the place I chose to try some goulash and it didn't disappoint. It was my first time eating the dish and it was great. Basically tastes like a thicker version of beef stew. Also ordered some fried potatoes and a leek soup. Friendly service, we chatted with our waiter a bit. Really liked the outdoor atmosphere as well.

Yelp
Another stop on my own personal Beisl tour. Glacis is located near the MQ and has a huge garden outside as well as quite a large area inside. More on the upper end of the Beisl genre with a few fancier, modern touches. But what it comes down to is the food and here there is nothing fancy. Just wholesome, hearty, flavourful plates of deliciousness! Great variety on offer and very decently priced. Nice touch is the branded beer glasses, really cool! Slightly let down two things unfortunately. Namely service and cleanliness. -Although we ordered a salad as a starter we had to ask twice for bread that others automatically received with their salad order. Also it took quite a while for extra cutlery to turn up after our starter cutlery was removed. -Everything was a little sticky and the plates came with a few chefs fingerprints. Despite these two negative comments I would gladly go back again.
google avatar

Tom D.

Yelp
Dinner on our second night in Vienna was at Glacis Beisl. We had a late lunch after touring around so we were careful not to over order. The restaurant is located behind the museum area, you take the street behind the museums to enter. The night we went was chilly so we chose to sit inside but that outside garden and patio is very inviting! We started by sharing the Grammel - knodel which are the dumplings stuffed with crispy pork. Believe the hype, these were an awesome starter to share. We both wanted to go "traditional" so we both ordered the Vienesse Schnitzel which was a huge piece of well prepared veal without a trace of grease. Very tasty and good value. Also had a couple glasses of blaufrankisch which we enjoyed here and also places we ate at in Budapest and Prague. Service was very good especially considering the large space which was packed with diners. Glacis Beisl is a solid choice for authentic Austrian cuisine.

Soo, Bavarian food doesn't vary much. If you don't like meat and potatoes, you're kindof screwed. After spending all week in Munich and just two days in Vienna, I thought I had run the gamut from very bad to pretty good. However, you must withhold judgment until you've had Glacis Beisl. It's right behind the Museum Quarter, but you need to exit and walk the perimeter in order to find it. Once you do, follow the twinkling lights in. Make sure to sit outside so you get the full experience of lights and trees. Between the two of us, we ordered the dumplings with sauerkraut and pork cracklings to start, which were enormous and sooo tasty and filled us up right away. I ordered the Viennese schnitzel, which was super thin and well breaded, served with a lemon slice that you should use liberally. My friend ordered the goulash, which came out 3x bigger than expected and is definitely more solid than liquid - read, large pieces of meat with sauce as an accompaniment. For dessert, our waiter recommended the semolina dumplings, and I have not been able to stop thinking about this dish since we've left Vienna. The soft dumplings contrasted really well with the more textured berries, and it was the perfect balance of sour and sweet. We also ordered half a liter of the house white wine for about 10 Euros - honestly, wine is so cheap in Europe, you should really be drinking it in place of water. Even though we over-ordered (don't underestimate those dumplings), I would still recommend getting everything we did. These are dishes that you could find elsewhere, but I definitely found my favorites here.

Yelp
A nice looking restaurant with a great outdoor area. Unfortunately we walked up, so the only tables available were inside. I had the lamb saddle, which was nicely seasoned along with asparagus. But everything on the plate was totally overcooked, to the point that the asparagus was mushy. If things were cooked correctly, this place might've been a 5-star, as the sauce and flavors were nice, along with the great ambiance. Our waitress seemed pretty annoyed to be speaking English to us the whole time, so don't expect great service.

Yelp
Everything about this place from the ambiance to the service, to beer/wine selection, and the absolutely incredible food is 5 Stars. And it is very reasonably priced. We got the Beef Goulash, Schnitzel, and Pierogi. Recommend all three dishes 10/10 This place is a must try in Vienna.

Yelp
What a gem. Like other reviewers have said, this restaurant has great service and great food. We spent a lovely afternoon out of the sun on the patio enjoying the schnitzel and the dumplings. Would definitely go back.

Yelp
This place shines due to its location. During a warm day, the garden is great place to sit and its near the MQ. Whether you're out for drinks with friends or grabbing dinner with family, this place will suffice. The kitchen is as typical as any Viennese beisl. Food is not disappointing but nothing exquisite. Don't go expecting to be blown by a classic meal or experience something new. The staff are all right, but being a popular place, the busy staff do not put any effort for you. Good luck if its a busy summers day! Very busy. Either way I would recommend you to go here during spring/summer. Sitting outside makes it all worth. The garden is nice (all green and away from street). During winter, the atmosphere inside is pretty dark and dull. If you are inside, the veranda is a nice choice but you can imagine how packed and loud it can get in there.

Yelp
We had this our first night in Wien. Super cute place with awesome outdoor seating. The staff was friendly English speaking. Bread was brought to our table with a some sort of red cabbage spread that was the bomb. She had the pork schnitzel and I had the pork skin dumplings. Wow. These were legit and definitely recommended.

Yelp
If I had a time machine, probably would get two schnitzels and not the pork crackling dumpling, was a little... Not crackling or crunchy.

Yelp
Glacis Beisl is a reliable Viennese eating establishment charmingly tucked away in the Museums Quartier. Food is hearty and decent (nothing unique here) while the service is friendly and attentive. But the star of the show at Glacis Beisl is the outdoor Schanigarten. On warm summer nights, this is a perfect place near to the center of Vienna to sit under the twinkling lights and enjoy a beer (...or two or three), a wine (...or four or five), and chill conversation with good friends.

Yelp
The restaurant, its ambiance were cozy. Gulasch was great but I did not like dumplings filled with pork cracklings(but i am not a pork lover). It contained really few pork, the dish was not delicious at all. Hausweiß wine was average.

Yelp
Pumpkin soup was absolutely fantastic it is very European - chicken or beef broth base which made it very hearty and delicious not at all sweet like a squash soup. The deer Terrawren is very well done although a little overkill on the fat outside. The Wiener Schnitzel Aldo Rado standard have an amazing breading cross on top of them - portion size is rather large. To finish the meal ( along with mandatory beverage refreshment in the style of beer) we had the gingerbread flumary - which is basically simply a gingerbread putting - what's tasty if you like that sort of thing (ie the taste was fantastic but the texture is deafly on the soft bread pudding side)
