"Glasgow Cathedral While Saint Kentigern (alternatively called Saint Mungo)—Glasgow’s 7th-century patron saint—may well be mythical, early Roman Catholics venerated his memory and started a cult on a hillside site where they believe he worshipped. They first built a church, then a full-blown cathedral, much of which dates from the mid to late 13th-century and remains intact to this day. Highlights include the Blackadder Aisle and the crypt with St. Kentigern’s Well. If you have the time, take in the adjacent Central Necropolis, one of the oldest cemeteries in the United Kingdom."

Amazing cathedral, the architecture is truly magnanimous. I really like the way they maintain and run these establishments. Was able to spend more than 60 minutes..just soaking in the history of this place. The audio tour was really good..good accessibility and proper restrooms as well. Overall, I love it

Such a stunning building, full of history and with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The stone columns are almost banded with dark and light which is very striking. The first part of the cathedral is very open, no pews in this section, but further in it is more traditional with fixed pews. I love stained glass so being able to visit the cathedral was a real treat as the glass is stunning. Although there were quite a few visitors when we were there it was still peacefully; many people taking the opportunity to just sit in quiet reflection.

A beautiful building with a lot of history. There are information boards, or you can get an audio guide. There was a lot to see, including the crypts that hold the grave of St Mungo; the pulpitum dating from the 1400s; the beautiful stained glass windows, and the effigy of Bishop Wishart. Entry is free, but you can make a donation. There is a souvernir shop, which has a good amount of items. These were reasonably priced. There are no toilets in the cathederal. The cathderal is partially wheelchair accessible. The crypts are not accessible. Some areas have low lighting. Some steps are uneven and have no handrails.

The Glasgow cathedral was the highlight of my trip here - I love seeing stained glass and what made it even better was the impressive architecture of the cathedral. It was undergoing renovations at the time of visit but honestly that didn't draw away from the presence the building gave. Inside was so intrinsic and there was lots of information which was interesting to read and understand more on the cathedrals history. It was amazing to get the chance to go into the underground sections and look into the numerous chapel rooms - the lower crypt was very interesting to see. Everyone there was incredibly lovely and I even purchased a stain glass piece for my own window at home as my souvenir from the trip!

Beautiful cathedral! You can pay for an audio tour, but there are also plaques throughout that give you more insight. The architecture and stained glass windows were amazing and I liked that we could walk around at our own pace! Would highly recommend if you’re visiting Glasgow!

I visited Glasgow Cathedral during my trip in June, and it was one of the most memorable stops in the city. The cathedral’s medieval Gothic architecture is stunning, and the peaceful atmosphere inside was a perfect break from the city. The lower crypt, where St. Mungo is said to be buried, was especially fascinating. Entry is free (with donations encouraged), and it’s right next to the beautiful Glasgow Necropolis, which is worth a walk if you have time. I’d recommend visiting in the morning for fewer crowds. Overall, Glasgow Cathedral is a must-see for history lovers, architecture fans, or anyone looking for a quiet and impressive place to explore.

It’s a cathedral never to be missed! What a load of treasure inside! There are so many interesting places under the ground level for you to explore, and an ample amount of information to get you amused. I felt like walking into a maze and bewildered by its contents.

⸻ I recently visited Glasgow Cathedral, though unfortunately, it was closed when I was part of a tour. From the outside alone, it was clear this is an absolute must-see in Glasgow. The cathedral is unbelievable—just standing nearby feels like stepping back in time. The architecture is stunning, and you can sense the deep history surrounding it. I could easily imagine spending hours inside taking it all in. A powerful, awe-inspiring place, even from the outside.

Yelp
Glasgow cathedral is stunning with its distinctive green roof and inside is just as magical with mesmerising colourful stained glass windows, St Mungo's tomb, and what was different about this cathedral is the highlighted message 'returning and into your arms' illuminated above . It's great to have a walk around the grounds to see some fabulous memorials and this is where the tv series Outlander was featured too so I would say this place is definitely worth a look around!

Yelp
Glasgow Cathedral is intriguing with a rich, ancient history dating back to the 12th century. In fact, it's the oldest building in Glasgow and the oldest church in continental Scotland. The mysterious Gothic exterior beckons tourists inside where the interior displays impressive architecture. If you're in Glasgow, duck your head in here and take a picture. But don't spend hours. You won't need that. My favorite church in town? The Roman Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral, out of the way and quiet.

Yelp
The Glasgow Cathedral is still a place of active Christian worship. Built around the late 12th century it is said to be located on the site of the patron saint of Glasgow. (Saint Kentigern buried in AD 612) This cathedral is next to the Necropolis. The outside of the building is impressive and the inside is well preserved. They offer free tours or you can walk around and at your leisure. Inside the Blackadder Aisle's ceiling is magnificent. The stained glass windows are gorgeous. You can also visit the crypt built for the tomb of St Kentigern and Bishop Wishart's memorial.

Yelp
Visited April 2015: "Mesh of history" The Cathedral was in an area near other churches, a Necropolis, Hospital, and what seemed to be dorm rooms/halls for a university. It is dark Gothic architecture. It is also one of the few Scottish medieval churches (and the only medieval cathedral on the Scottish mainland) to have survived the Reformation not unroofed. We checked out the Cathedral in 30 minutes, including the crypt. There was a tour going on and it was discussing the tomb in the crypt - St Mungo. Other burials to check out: Robert Wishart, Bishop of Glasgow; James Law, Archbishop of Glasgow (1615-1632); Peter Lowe (surgeon), (1550-1610) doctor and medical author; Charles Macintosh, inventor of the MacKintosh. We then walked a portion of the Necropolis before heading back to our car before the meter ran out.

Yelp
Glasgow Cathedral is a beautiful cathedral in the city center. It's a pretty standard European cathedral in many ways, with the stone exterior, stained glass windows, and wood paneling up front. One thing that set it aside though, was that downstairs there is a smaller chapel, which does include some history about the cathedral, including how it sustained even after the Scottish Reformation. I would recommend browsing around this free cathedral, and also taking the easy walk down the path next to it to see the cemetery (Necropolis) up the hill.

Yelp
First time I've ever been inside courtesy of my school's Memorial Service. Deceptively large building, going far deeper than you would at first expect. The stained glass windows are magnificent and it appears that a lot of the original stonework is still present. I'm not religious in the slightest, but appreciate the effort that would have gone into designing, crafting and constructing a building such as this, especially the thick end of 1000 years ago.

Yelp
Glasgow Cathedral, also known as St Mungo's or St Kentigern's Chathedral is a lovely gothic building located north of High Street in suprisingly, Glasgow. The building itself is impressive and rather lovely. The site is the buirial place of St Mungo ( the patron saint of Glasgow). The cathedral in now in the care of the Church of Scotland although was originaly a Catholic cathedral. Steeped in history and worth a visit.

Yelp
A lovely cathedral, has lots of little chapels bulit in honour of people who were bishops, priests, ministers etc. It has a lot of history with the tomb of St Mungo who brought Christainity to the Glasgow area. Currently under restoration. Pay a visit to the gift shop for a sovenir. Perfect for someone who loves to study religion and churches.
