Glashütte Petersberg

A friend took me to Glashütte Petersburg in the Zitadelle Petersberg in Erfurt, Germany, before a theatrical performance. I’m glad we got into this restaurant before the people with reservations showed up. The food was delicious and flavorful. My friend had a tasty curry chicken and I had a traditional German meal of sausage, potatoes and sauerkraut. All was top notch. Nice service and spectacular views too!

Lovely restaurant at the top of the hill with great views over the city. Survive was fast and friendly, staff really attentive. Good meal, nice portion and good beers too. Really relaxed atmosphere and well worth a visit if you are in the area.

High on top of Erfurt’s great citadel stands the GLASHÜTTE Cafe. Our lovely local friends took us through the stately baroque fortress. The GLASHÜTTE was a welcome surprise given most foodservice on historical sites back home are…fair at best. Besides the beautiful panoramic views, this restaurant has an impressive menu that includes traditional German dishes and some more familiar ones like cheeseburgers and pasta marinara. The beer list is excellent with many German favorites, but they also offer a variety of beverages to suit many tastes. The meal started with a selection of tapas that included fresh bread, roasted mushrooms, baba ghanoush, and green olives. Excellent. Anyone who says German food is bland or boring has never had quality German cooking. The bratwurst was juicy and and the sauerkraut was so flavorful. Nobody has mastered the potato like Germans. The servers were friendly and attentive. Spending a pleasant evening with friends was the best part of the meal, but even if you’re dining alone this is a special spot you must try if you’re visiting Erfurt. Du wirst es nicht bereuen!

Nice location, food was fine but not breathtaking. The service staff was friendly but overall slow. There were lots of bees flying around to the point where you could barely eat anymore. Not much they can do about it but it was making eating really difficult.

Great views to the dome and over the city. Variety of breakfast options. Perfect for a brunch before exploring Erfurt. Also serves lunch and dinner but we didn't try it.
