5 STARS ALL AROUND! What an extraordinary experience I had at this beautiful hotel. From the moment I arrived, every detail was flawlessly executed and far surpassed my expectations, leaving a lasting impression. Chloe was an absolute gem at check-in—gracious, attentive, and wonderfully warm. Her exceptional hospitality set the perfect tone for what would become a truly unforgettable stay. The welcome amenity of a fruit and cheese display paired with a bottle of wine was not only a delightful surprise but a true testament to the care and thoughtfulness of the Food and Beverage Team. It was evident that every element was curated with the guest experience in mind. My room was impeccably appointed—elegant, tranquil, and exceptionally comfortable. It genuinely felt like a luxurious home away from home. This visit was filled with charm, warmth, and thoughtful touches at every turn. I wholeheartedly look forward to the opportunity to return and relive the magic all over again. Thank you for your outstanding hospitality and for creating such a memorable and meaningful stay.

The only disappointment was that our room was missing a coffee maker, but it had coffee pods which was odd. The room was beautiful and the bed comfortable. There wasn’t soap for the shower, only shampoo and conditioner. Great and kind front desk personnel that checked us in early which was nice.

We checked in on a Thursday evening. Friday morning we went out about 8:00 and I saw they had some apples and oranges in a bowl in a small room where you could get water bottles. The orange looked old and the apples were starting to wrinkle so I passed on them. The cleaning carts were in the hall and the staff was working so I thought they'd replace the fruit and I might get some later. We came back a little past noon and our room wasn't cleaned. My wife asked the front desk if they could clean it while we were out at lunch. We were on a tight schedule trying to get some work issues taken care of before we were to meet friends for dinner then a show at the Chrysler Theater. We came back from lunch around 1:45 and the room was still not cleaned. The orange was getting darker too! So we decided to do a bit of sight seeing and asked for the room to please be cleaned by 3:00. After our walk we returned at 3:00 to find the room had been cleaned! Yippee! The orange was still there with its wrinkly friends. We got ready for dinner and the show and left. The hotel is quiet as well as the neighborhood. No street sounds to disturb you and the sound insulation between the rooms works great. The on site art glass gallery is very interesting! Everything is clean and very well maintained, other than the fruit bowls. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again. Valet parking is $33 a day but self parking is $19 a day. The garage is conveniently adjacent to the hotel. Lots of dining options within a short walk. As short as two doors away for some! And they have a restaurant in the hotel. We didn't try it with only having two nights and plans with others.

A great place to be. Very friendly staff and a nice vibe in downtown Norfolk. The rooms were large and very nice. We had a great view of the water with ships coming and going. The attached glass gallery is outstanding. I would stay here every time I’m in this area. Easy walk to Chrysler Hall. The restaurant is also very good! Try the scallops! Spectacular!

Beautiful old building with beautiful glass art display. The check-in was easy with Lauren, very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and spacious, and the air conditioner worked well, but a little loud. They offer bottled water in the rooms and have a mini fridge - nice touch.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Glass Light Hotel and Gallery, and it was an experience that I cannot recommend highly enough. The hotel effortlessly blends luxury accommodations with an exquisite tribute to glass art, creating a unique ambiance that is both visually stunning and warmly inviting. The culinary experience at their in-house restaurant was truly a highlight. Each dish was not only delicious but also a work of art, beautifully plated and bursting with flavors that demonstrate a high level of culinary skill and creativity. The drink menu was equally impressive, especially the signature color-coded cocktails which were a fun, innovative touch. The “Old Fashioned” deserves a special mention for being flawlessly balanced and expertly crafted. As an art enthusiast, the gallery within the hotel was a delightful journey through the world of glass art. It featured various pieces from renowned artists, including breathtaking works by Dale Chihuly. Walking through the gallery felt like exploring a treasure trove of shimmering glass art, with each piece telling its own unique story. Overall, the Glass Light Hotel and Gallery offers an exceptional blend of gastronomic delights, sophisticated luxury, and captivating art. It’s a perfect escape for anyone looking to immerse themselves in beauty and creativity. Highly recommended for those who appreciate the finer things in life!

This is probably one of the worst Marriott hotels we have stayed at. When getting here we had to drive around five times because of valeted cars just sitting there. My husband finally dropped me off and I find at least five employees just chit chatting. I let them know we couldn’t pull up to the hotel until they move some cars. Their response,” oh just pull on the sidewalk. “ when you are paying almost 500 dollars a night you expect to be greeted with some professionalism. Our luggage was not in our room when we were able to check in ,like we were told it would be. No big deal my husband went down to check on it. There was a line out the door and believe it or not the staff was more worried about getting their Starbucks door dash order. I would expect this with a 100 a night hotel but 500 a night?!? Is this a joke. As for the room it was not up to standards for cleanliness. Crackers from the previous guest on the floor. Hair around the garbage can. Stains on the lounge chair by the windows . Coffee machine didn’t work thankfully Starbucks is close. My husband and I have traveled all over and this by far is the worst hotel experience. Marriott corporate really needs to get involved. The hotel has potential. I’m a rewards member and feel like we were ripped off. Right now this should be a 120 dollar a night hotel at most. Please choose wisely when considering. Other reviews even from two years ago have the same sentiment. That should say a lot about place not being able to change in a two year time. This is not a 450 a night experience.

We booked the King Suite for 2 nights for my wedding. From the moment you walk in, the hotel is definitely has that high-end luxury feel. While the suite was extremely spacious and nice, there were a few less than ideal things we noticed and/or had happen. The floors themselves were not as clean as we would have liked. For example, after walking around in socks for 15 minutes, the bottom of my white socks were black from how dirty the floors were. The toilet stopped flushing on two separate occasions, which was inconvenient but manageable. The first time occurred on the morning of my wedding but luckily the staff had someone up there right away to fix it before the craziness of the day began. The second occurred the following day randomly, so we had to reach into the back of the toilet to pull the chain manually in order for it to flush. In the living room area of the suite, the sound of dripping water would randomly be heard throughout the day and night, and the area above the entrance had water damage and black mold from the current and/or previous moisture. The service overall from the moment we checked in to when we checked out was great. The staff was attentive when concerns were raised. Specifically, we realized we forgot our slices of wedding cake in the fridge after checking out and the woman at the front desk was extremely sympathetic when we called back. She got in touch with housekeeping, called me back within 10 minutes and kept the slices for us in the fridge until we were able to pick them up. There were certainly some good and bad moments during our stay but we are still happy to have stayed at this hotel for our wedding. We look forward to coming back in the future.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel that doubles as a museum with glass sculptures. If you like rabbits, they are everywhere!! There are sculptures in the rooms that are available for purchase. My room has a glass carrot. The location is perfect for activities in downtown Norfolk. The restaurant was exquisite with dishes that are prepared to order with a chef's kiss! Ask for Kulber to be your server! One of the best!! The bartenders were also WONDERFUL because our drinks were DELICIOUS!

Yelp
Great location, unique style, and affordable quality. Lovely to have an on site art gallery and a unique one at that.

Yelp
By far one of the worst Marriott hotels I've ever stayed at. They will overcharge you for everything, from parking to the minibar they don't stock. It's unreal. Rooms are noisy and beds were not comfortable. Save yourself the trouble and money and stay at a Hilton. This is not worth it.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary, as a staycation. It was absolutely amazing! We can't wait to return.

Yelp
This is a distinctive choice in downtown Norfolk. It's well-located close to the waterfront, with the battleship and the MacArthur Memorial each just a couple of blocks away. There are plenty of bars and restaurants also within a radius of just a few blocks, though you will definitely want to try out the hotel's own excellent restaurant and bar area, overseen by the giant glass sculpture of a pink bunny in repose. There is a city parking garage just behind the hotel, so access to your car is relatively easy. The rooms are nice and have some of those distinctive design touches found in the Autograph group. I reserved a corner room to get views in two directions. I was placed on the fifth floor and wished I had been higher for a more sweeping view. If you're into views and willing to pay a little more, I suspect the battleship view rooms would have a terrific vantage point. There are plenty of lighting options in the room, which are cool. However, I wasn't that great a fan of the motion-sensor light in the bathroom area that comes on when you walk near the sink, which is open to the room. It kept surprising me when I didn't want it on. (You can turn off the switch, but then you'd have to cross to the door to turn it on when you did want it.) I found the bed to be fine for sleeping, but the chairs in the room with the little bistro table weren't particularly comfortable. To be honest, my favorite part of the room was the glass carrot on the table, presumably a nod to the "bartender" downstairs. Adjacent to the lobby is an exhibit of glass art that's fun to walk through. The staff were all pleasant and attentive. The elevators are a little slow at times.

Yelp
Impressive! First, i must say this amazing hotel, a member of the Marriott brand of hotels, met and exceeded any and every expectations we had while visiting Norfolk. We visited for a friend's baby shower in Virginia Beach, staying at this gem of a hotel in downtown Norfolk. Walking distance to the waterfront, and various downtown bars, nightlife, malls, coffeeshops etc., the location can't be beat. It's also steps from the light rail, and literally walking distance to the local Amtrak station. It's also super convenient to the Elizabeth River Trail, a walking / running trail that hugs the waterfront in downtown Norfolk. Upon checking in , we were offered a glass of champagne, which we later learned is offered on Fridays and Saturdays. The rooms were clean and spacious, with few details left untouched including free water and illy espresso. If you finished the included water bottles, additional water available in coolers in the hallways. The beds were very comfortable, too. The only downside of the room was the sliding barn door for the bathroom, which is common in a lot of high-end hotels these days - so be prepared if you need privacy. The gym on the 12th floor has plenty of free weights and cardio machines of all sorts. And the lobby has a fab bar/restaurant adjacent to its own art gallery. Everyone who worked at the hotel was very friendly yet professional. And I'd definitely stay at the Glass Light again when visiting Norfolk.

Yelp
Accidentally stumbled into this beauty on our way to Grace O'Malley's and my companions and I were immediately enamored. We asked about cocktails and were told we could order at the bar and there were other tables at which we could sit in the lobby. We were immediately served by one of 2 bartenders. She was outstandingly attentively. We decided to order appetizers off of the bar menu and the small plates and my goodness the food was irresistibly tasty! Don't miss this cool spot to be seen with the hipsters!

Yelp
This is a nice hidden place. We enjoyed the ambiance, other customers and staff. The menu wasn't too appealing to me. It's just my personal preference. But we decided to try dessert and drinks. Both were amazing

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant, gallery, hallways and rooms. Free water and fruit in the hallways as well. The rooms are very nice and functional and in good shape. I couldn't access the HDMI port for plugging in my Roku though, but at least the TV's have Netflix and Max on it. Check-in was super fast. Nice fitness center on the 12th floor with decent views. The fitness center has bikes, a rower, 4 treadmills, ellipticals, dumbbells and a few other weight machines. It's odd that out of hundreds of hotels I've been to, a couple of my favorites are in Norfolk of all places (the other being The Main), but kudos to this city for having a couple truly awesome hotels. If you're reading this you need to choose this or the Main, for real.

Yelp
We live in Fl and wanted to buy a gift certificate for our son and his wife to dine there as a Christmas Present. We tried for hours. Couldn't buy it online or over the phone to Marriott or the Restaurant direct. Apparently only by physically walking in could you buy a gift certificate. Never did get it done. Easier to buy a new Cadillac.

Yelp
We came here to spend the night as we were passing through to get to the Outerbanks. Our room was paradise after being in a cramped car for 6 hours. The man who checked us in was quick and efficient, and being I am a member with Marriott Bonvoy I was upgraded. The off-site parking garage was slightly inconvenient but very close and the area seems safe enough, well lit. Not ideal but also not enough of an issue to take off a star. Our room was a sanctuary. Luxury Linens on the beds, huge windows with battery operated blinds, and a gorgeous bathroom with a seperate shower and tub. You get the "glass" element with the bathroom sink and a few other items in the room like the glass carrot. The area is nice, many great restaurants within walking distance. The hotel has a glass work gallery which is free to walk through and worth checking out. All staff we came across was friendly and helpful. Overall a great stay and I regretted having to leave so soon!

Yelp
Very comfortable accommodations and corner room made it extra nice. Only down side was the water in sink drained very slowly.

Yelp
Beautiful, modern and elegant with simple elements. Glass sculptures adorn the lobby. Ornate, cerebral, grandeous and cultural come to mind when admiring the pieces. The hotel is downtown and surrounded by an array of businesses to walk to including the mall. The hotel is clean, moderne and the rooms are spacious and great views based on the room you are checked in to. This will definitely be my hotel if choice when visiting Norfolk and surrounding cities.

Yelp
Darling!!! **Minus some of the types who dine here. "Karen's husband" spoke AT me through his teeth as if he were a posh Brit and wanted to know why I was taking pictures, mind you he was literally asking this from two tables away?! A) Didn't mommy teach you to mind your business not others? B) what posh person speaks out loud and across two tables AT someone? C) Poor guy lives in a world (God knows where that is) without Yelp! God bless him. Anywho! Let's not let the non Yelp fans ruin this review. Sharing as there was a general tone of 'I'm better than you' going on this night at the restaurant. 1. Refreshments Had the Sparkling Rose to start, and boy is it sparkly! Be prepared for full gas ;) very nice The bar is open format and has all you need! 2. Food As an appetizer had the Crispy Octopus and half entree of the seasonal pasta, the Mushroom Nut Pappardelle. Octopus is outstanding IF you like your Octopus a lil charred and crispy which I do. The chorizo sauce potatoes red jalapeño pepper combo was super yumalish. The Pappardelle was good. Needed something but can't put my finger on it. Maybe the sauce the Octopus was in lol. 3. Service Stellar from the hostess to the bus girl to the chef to the waitress, trained well a d generally kind people. 4. Ambiance Thee decor is fab! Open, bright but dim at the same time. Modern sexy and stylish and hip. 5. Glass museum A must and just behind the bar Tues thru Sun 8-8. 6. The stayed in a King corner room which was nice but I'd recommend saving the money (likely an extra $200) and staying in a regular King room instead. Parking is self and in the building just behind the hotel. Floors 2 and up but on a weekend parking is slim so get there early and walk to dinner etc. The Nauticus Wisconsin ship is a block away and if you're here in Mid Nov to Dec it turns into Winterfest with lights galore and fun things to do and Santa!

Yelp
This is a beautifully designed boutique hotel located in the heart of historic downtown, Norfolk. Now before I get into my review id like to highlight some things. I did my research about this hotel and found something interesting. I was originally looking to stay at a luxury hotel for a quick getaway and came across The Glass Light Hotel. This hotel is in fact classified as a boutique hotel not a luxury hotel. The difference between a Boutique hotel and a luxury hotel is that a boutique hotel has fewer rooms than a luxury hotel (between 40-100) nothing ever over 100 and provides a different level of service to make up for not having all the facilities of a large luxury hotel ie: Spa, Pool, or 24hour room service. With that in mind, The Glass Light Hotel ultimately exceeded my expectations as a boutique hotel. The only way you can even remotely tell that its not a luxury or a larger hotel is that it does not have a Pool, Roof top bar, Spa, and 24 hour room service. Because of how great my experience was at this hotel, I promise you I didn't miss, want, or need, any of that extra stuff. To clear the air, this hotel does have room service between certain hours mainly for breakfast. It does have a wonderful upscale restaurant. The restaurant staff were so friendly and the food was impeccable. The presentation of the smoke short ribs was very fancy. The head chef actually went around and introduced himself and made sure our food was what we wanted. I booked my stay using Expedia like I always do and I had no problems checking in or out. All of my fees were pretty much paid for using Expedia so I only had to pay for parking. You can self park which I do not recommend since you are downtown, Norfolk or you can choose valet which is $19 per day. My Hotel room itself was more spacious than I thought it would be for a boutique hotel. The décor was so artful and modern. I was on the 10th floor with a view of the cruise ships and harbor which was so nice. I loved the large windows as well as the automatic blinds feature. The room included 2 televisions, waffle cotton knit robes, and some interesting touch's like makeup towels that had makeup written across them. The room also included a mini refrigerator. The only reason why I knocked off a star was the breakfast room service. I had a hard time ordering because no one ever picked up the phone. And when I did finally get in touch with the hostess, she rushed my order, got some things wrong, and packed all of my food in to go boxes which was disappointing because I wanted the nice traditional room service tray or platter just to add that touch to my stay. My favorite part overall was the glass Art gallery which is located near the restaurant. Walking through it observing artwork was just fun and added an interesting thing to see within the hotel.

Yelp
Amazing hotel customer service with beautiful glass art gallery attached (but don't forget to check out all the pieces located in the lobby and around the first floor!). Rooms are clean, spacious, and modern. Parking garage is conveniently located around the block. Make sure to check out Nauticus and all of the surrounding area. Norfolk's Waterside District is a short walk away.

Yelp
Super cute stay and dining experience. Well I celebrated other year of life a few months ago and my husbae surprised me with a staycation. We checked in on Friday and checked out on Sunday. Friday night, my babe had planned a dinner party for me, another couple and my bestie. The service was awesome and the food ahmazing! I ended up ordering dessert before dinner, thinking I was ordering a drink - go figure! I tore it up!! It was so good, I convinced my friends to order another after dinner and we all had a spoonful :) sharing is caring. The room itself, decor chic, TV included all the channels and add ons necessary to enjoy a weekend stay. Our room had views of Granby street. Definitely a beautiful skyline scene at night. We did pull the shades when we turned in for the night, but having the shades up is super sexy :) The room was spacious. Bed comfy and a bit too soft for husbae. But I thought it was just fine. The bathroom and shower pressure... amazing! I do not believe a pool is located inside.... I guess the only recreation present is walking Granby Street... venturing over to Waterside or taking advantage of the bike/scooter rentals. I cannot recall if they have a fitness center... check out my pics to see. We did have trouble exiting the parking garage located behind the hotel, but I called the front desk and one of the workers came to assist. Parking is not free. Parking on the street is only free after 6pm and free all day on Sunday, fyi. I don't recall valet services. Also when unloading... do not plan to do so in front of the hotel... aside from construction, space on Granby itself is tight. I would definitely stay here again and recommend you stay and/or dine here as well. I suggest making reservations ahead of time. There is a full bar with seating as well. The artwork and sculptures are lovely as well... I love the décor and cleanliness of this boutique like hotel. Have fun and enjoy life :)

Yelp
An unexpected lovely staycation. I was able to experience a one night stay via a hotel rewards certificate. Cristina was incredibly friendly & helpful at check-in & throughout the stay. Upon arrival I was warmly and energetically greeted with a smile and enthusiasm. She asked a few friendly questions and informed me of the hours of the glass gallery, restaurant, parking and other pertinent hotel info. As a Bonvoy Elite member, she was able to provide me with an upgraded room with a view of the USS Wisconsin & river view. She even followed up with a phone call to check up on the status of our room. The room was super spacious, with plenty of natural light from the two windows. As the evening drew to a close I was able to witness the beautiful hues of purple, blue and orange sunset and the lights from the USS Wisconsin. I had a two queen bed room and the comforters and bed were as soft and comfortable with many pillows and simple but clean lines. The room was very nicely and elegantly decorated without being ornate. The frosted armoire with the soft close drawers and nice robe gave the room a homey feel. I appreciated the separate hallway leading to the bathroom. I was extremely fascinated with the cool looking sink located outside the bathroom! The sink bowl lit up and had a sensor. The bathroom itself was very spacious as well with subway tiling with a classic look. I especially appreciated the commode not being literally next to the shower. The shower was huge with a rainfall shower head and a shower wand with controls. The toiletries, all high end. It was extremely nice and helpful to have a square table with three shelves next to the shower to place my clean clothes and towel on before entering the shower. Most importantly, the AC was AWESOME!! If you can't make your room feel like Antarctica temperature wise, it drops the stars down for me, regarding hotels. I need to sleep with the room super cold and then bundle up under a nice fluffy comforter. Sounds crazy, but that's how my body works. I actually had to turn up the temperature some because it got so cold. We utilized the coffee maker and the illy coffee was grand! The retro mini Frigidaire kept the drinks extremely cold. LOVE IT!! Sadly, my husband wasn't able to join me on this staycation, so my sister was able to share in the experience of the beauty of this hotel. Sister time it was! We explored every floor of the hotel to see the different glass work on each floor and to check out the fitness room which is quite extensive with free weights, circuit weights and cardio equipment. Each floor contains an OASIS, which provides complimentary fruit, like apples and bananas and bottled water. We were able to check out more glass work displayed near the conference rooms one level up from the lobby. These were quite impressive. Once we went to the lobby we headed to the Glass Gallery that has two floors with even more interesting and impressive pieces. You have to see it in person to believe it! I'm not talking about vases, but full glass sculptures by world renowned artists from Holland, Czech Republic etc. I took so many pics and videos I ran out of space! The Glass Gallery is quite the treat! They have a small card you can scan to learn more about the pieces. I actually ended up finding the book that was for sale in my room and read through some of it, learning about the artists. It was pretty cool. The hotel itself is located in the historic Royster building and they managed to maintain some of its original charm with the stairwells and old school mailbox and chutes and exposed brick. I know there are lots of options off Granby street to dine, but we decided to check out the food fare in the hotel restaurant. While the menu is limited, the food is very tasty and exquisite, but also with a high price tag. The restaurant was nice to experience at least ONCE, but if you want to dine for less there are plenty of other options within short walking distance. Speaking of distance, this boutique hotel is centrally located from lots of restaurants, shops, the mall, the Norva, the Wells Theatre, the Half Moon Cruise Port, Waterside, if you're from out of town. I would highly recommend staying here whether you're from out of town or a local looking for a staycation, for its beauty, charm, cleanliness, but most of all its staff with their excellent customer service, including their restaurant staff. They truly know how to make guests feel welcomed. *Parking is next to the hotel but is $19 for unlimited in and out privileges per day, but you must bring your parking ticket to the front desk to have it validated and scanned. Thank you Glass Light Hotel for a phenomenal stay!

Yelp
Pros: Location - easily walkable to the battleship and nestled on the main drag of restaurants and bars. We had a nice view from our room. Aesthetic: It's very visually appealing, cool art, lots of clean lines and it's bright and happy Cons: THE BATHROOM- 1) No fan. So the bathroom steams up and you can't cover any - ahem- noises. 2) Our toilet wasn't firmly secured to the floor and make a loud KLONK any time you sat on it. I informed the front desk about this twice. 3) Shower water pressure was laughable. The setup of the shower is great, a rain head with a hand held. Having all water in the hand held looked to be about the same water flow that you get out of a watering can for your garden. Lighting - While there are lots of fun options none of those allow you to use the restroom or sink at low light. If you need to use the restroom in the middle of the night or are going to bed/getting up at a different time than other folks in the room, you'll be doing it in the dark unless you want to wake them up or they have an eye mask on TV - the tv size is good, the offerings were fine, the resolution was 1990s grainy Bed - size was fine, but it was the firmest hotel bed I have EVER slept on. And the mattress protection zipper was thick/coarse enough to be felt through the top sheet This hotel is not worth what they charge.

Yelp
My husband and I were going to be in Norfolk for a wedding at the Chrysler Building and had to find a spot for the night. We typically book last minute and it definitely paid off because he found this swanky hotel via Hotels Tonight. When we arrived, valet was available to park our vehicle in front right away so that we could check in and get dressed for our event quickly, and return promptly to our waiting vehicle. I appreciated that accommodation. Because of the 3rd party booking, there was a small delay with check in but we were offered (And we accepted, lol) champagne while we waited. Our room was beautiful and very artistic. Abstract fixtures, a retro Frigidaire, very chic and updated. Pleasing to the eye for sure. We showered comfortably, slept well and then toured the art gallery upon checkout the next day. Interesting displays of structures and paintings. Very sleek and free flowing exhibit. I enjoyed it. There were also a ton of restaurants, and food spots, & the Freemason Harbor within walking distance. I recommend this place for not just art lovers, but anyone looking to experience an overnight stay that's mind opening.

Yelp
I love the Glass Light I stayed there last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. First off, let me say that this is a boutique hotel. The lobby and my room were both immaculately turned out. The "gimmick" of this location is the glass art. It's everywhere, from the dedicated gallery on the first floor to the decor of the rooms. There was even a glass carrot for sale on my side table! The king solo room was kind of on the small side but everything was expertly turned out. There was a beautiful canopy bed and comfy chaise lounge. And it was pretty well insulated from outside noise despite being in the heart of downtown. I did have a small misunderstanding with the housekeeping team but I had 2 team members check on me to make sure it was resolved. My only quibbles were the ultra harsh lighting in the bathroom (dimmer, hello?), the lack of any curtains which means if your room is facing the parking garage, it is never pitch black and the fact that they didn't make up my room on Day 2. Otherwise, I would definitely pay a return visit!

Yelp
I must say this is a really nice hotel. When you walk in your feel like your out of town. We did a little staycation earlier this year. It was my other half birthday and I wanted to surprise him with a night out on the town. Since it's been a couple years we've been out. Due to not feeling comfortable since the pandemic and germs.. germs.. are everywhere! Lol! Now back to what I was saying.... The checking in process was easy. The front desk staff was awesome! They were friendly, attentive, and very welcoming. They were super busy. Because it was a Saturday night and alot of people were checking in... So we had a little wait... But when we got our rooms cards. We check out our room... And started sightseeing throughout the hotel. They do have a bar/ restaurant downstairs and they have a cute glass museum. Which reminded me of the Chrysler Museum right down the street. There's so many bars and restaurants down the street if you want options to choose from. We ended up trying a local restaurant down the street and getting takeout the bring back with us. Our room was clean. I loved the shower! It had a sexy vibe too it. And the most beautiful sight was waking up in the morning and looking out the window seeing how peaceful the city looked in the morning. I totally forgot I was in NORFOLK! Lol! Overall it was an awesome night at a beautiful hotel!

Yelp
We had a wonderful staycation here. So let's start with check in. Very quick and easy with a friendly and helpful staff. The room was beautifully appointed with an excellent view. We went to the bar for drinks and a snack before our dinner reservation around the block and had a couple of wonderful and unique cocktails along with delicious appetizers. ( We have noted that we must come back and try the restaurant.) The glass pieces throughout the hotel are beautiful and fun to seek out. Take a moment to visit the attached glass gallery next to the lobby. We truly enjoyed our stay and I'm sure we will do it again

Yelp
This is a beautiful hotel! A go to spot for all those who love or appreciate art! The aesthetics of the hotel, including the rooms were the most impressive I've seen in a hotel yet. From the lights to the walls and floors and of course their art pieces, everything was taken accounted for how it can be the most eye-appealing to the guests. I went to the bar and gallery when I first came to the hotel and was greeted warmly by everyone that worked there. The drinks were just as pretty as the art but still punched you in the chest in a fruity way. I walked around the gallery in awe. I wanted to take a lot of pieces home with me lol I loved how they had the artists books out to read as well. Reading them and getting to know the people behind the art made looking at them much more personable. I especially loved how when I went to my room, there was a small, glass art piece on the table with a book as well. The room was, of course, just as gorgeous as the rest of the hotel. It was clean and well lit, while keeping the art aesthetic by having pieces on the walls along with your own small art piece to look at, as I mentioned previously. It also had 2 large mirrors outside of the one in the bathroom, perfect for looking at your fit and for selfies. The bed and pillows were soft and comfortable. I slept like the dead! And I appreciated that they accommodated robs and slippers as well. A few things that bothered me was that the TV remote only worked when you stood at a specific spot 60% of the time and the internet connected to it was really slow. I also was surprised there was no microwave in the room. But they do have an espresso machine and a refrigerator. The sink in the bathroom also drains slowly and the water makes a weird, loud noise when turned on for both the bath tub and the sinks. I thought for the bath tub it might be normal since it's dispensing a lot of water but it was kind of strange it made the same loud sound for the sink. And then what definitely had me lose a star was that my husband was treated rudely and with much hostility when he first came to check in. (I met up with him later.) I can't say too much of the situation since I wasn't there but from what he told me, the front desk guy looked him up and down and drilled him with a lot of questions before still looking hesitant to give him the key cards. He claims that the guy was probably suspicious because he was wearing his errand clothes (worn out shorts and a stained shirt). But whatever the reason is, it's not right to treat customers negatively, especially if they have solid proof of payment and they're cooperating. Luckily, that was the only bad worker we ran into. Everyone else was super nice. Overall, I would recommend others to stay here at least once, but with the minor inconveniences, I personally would not stay here again but I will treasure my experiences of being here. I'll probably come back for the bar though.

Yelp
Let's start off by saying nice location and convenient to other establishments in walking distance! We arrived checked in went to our rooms dropped off our luggage and went out to dinner!. The hotel has nice art displays with a relaxing atmosphere. I would definitely stay here again, the only downside is our room was pretty small for what we paid but we made it work plus our plan was to enjoy ourselves and just sleep there for one night.

Yelp
There's absolutely nothing wrong with this hotel. The entire place was laid out, immaculately. Not to mention the staff were like super hero's, answering my every call , and attentive to all my needs...... Shout out to the young man Preston at the front desk, he really saved my trip and made it extra special........The hotel is in the middle of everything you could need or want on a trip....... My morning view was a battleship but the entire hotel is filled with very beautiful art........ The hotel is definitely on my to do list again as soon as possible and i'll highly recommend it to anyone.

Yelp
This restaurant is located inside the glass light hotel a new Autograph property by Marriott in downtown Norfolk Virginia The hotel restaurant is heavily influenced by French cooking techniques and I enjoyed the fresh baked croissants made on site every morning by the restaurants chefs Both the restaurant and the hotel are artistic and trendy in all the right ways and will eventually feature glass art exhibits throughout the property What really stood out to me though was how friendly the entire staff is from the valet to park your car before you even Get to the restaurant, to the waitstaff and ultimately the few kitchen staff that I Met I hate I highly recommend

Yelp
We stayed in the Glass Light Hotel and Gallery this past weekend and fell in love with the place! Similar in price to most of the other hotels in the same location, the Glass Light Hotel is definitely superior. The outside of the building is absolutely gorgeous. It almost looks like it's the original exterior brick, windows, and roof! The view from the rooms was absolutely incredible. We stayed on the 9th floor and could see so much of downtown Norfolk. We spoke with 4 different staff, and they were all incredibly friendly! Our room was pristine. Everything from the lights on in the room to the "Welcome, Sam" sign on the TV was in the perfect spot. The bed and counter were beautiful, and the bathroom and sink were super cool. The shower had subway tile, and the entire room with modern and simplistic while maintaining a luxury feel. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the entire hotel was quiet the entire time we were there. Overall, we'd recommend the Glass Light Hotel & Gallery to anyone looking to stay in Norfolk. We will definitely be staying again ourselves!

Yelp
Highly recommend this hotel! In the heart of downtown and within walking distances to many great restaurants and bars. The hotel is gorgeous with glass sculptures throughout. The cocktails at the downstairs bar are on point. The Thai Turkey was my favorite if you like bourbon. Hotel room is clean, modern, and we even had an amazing view of the USS Wisconsin. If you're looking for a unique hotel downtown Norfolk, this is the place!

Yelp
We've been wanting to stay here, but as locals sometimes it's hard to justify. Our Anniversary gave us just the occasion to splurge on an overnight in our very own Downtown Norfolk. Nick greeted us with a friendly smile and was informative on everything we needed to know. The perfect host. Unfortunately, the restaurant is currently closed (thanks Covid), but luckily there are amazing options right outside the door! We had reservations for some fine dining right next door at Byrd & Baldwin (go read that review next)! So we were all set. There are so many choices of places to eat in this great location. The lobby of the hotel is filled with some great artwork that will definitely draw you in to meander around the downstairs. We loved it so much that we brought our bottle of wine down to one of the seating areas to have a drink before we headed out to dinner. Our room was super cool. Definitely not your run of the mill standard room. Everything was nice and clean, modern and cool! We had a king sized bed on the 7th floor. The room had 2 windows which had nice natural lighting even though the view was minimal. There was a great cozy lounger sofa by the window which was a great spot to relax and gaze out at the nice architecture of the buildings next door. The room had a nice low counter/bar with a small coffee machine along with an assortment of coffee and tea. Complementary bottles of water were in the room and in the hallway as well. The bathroom was pretty neat as well. The glass sink lit up as you walked by and the shower had a frosted glass surround that separated it from the bedroom. The only problem with this was if your partner used the bathroom while you were sleeping then the ENTIRE room lit up as well. I can handle that for one night, but multiple nights would be a problem. The shower itself was large and accommodating. The rainfall shower felt nice and the body gel smelled wonderful. The bed was soft, the pillows a little too puffy for my liking, and the walls a bit thin. Our "neighbor" decided to watch TV around 5am and it was definitely loud enough to wake us up and keep us up. Overall, it was a fun place to stay for the night. It was beautiful, and the location is ideal to anything and everything in downtown.

Yelp
Autograph collection's are always a treat. This one is a wonderful location with very nice art. The staff here are working very hard and doing their best to provide the best service to Marriott customers regardless of your status. The service team here is excellent, the breakfast and restaurant team are incredible. This is a wonderful hotel in a great location

Yelp
My case number is 417086876 with Marriot, a Silver Elite member. I stayed here for one night but the hotel fraudulently charged me for 2 nights, for a refund, I have been calling customer care for 1 month now and they are not willing to return my money, and frankly, at this point, I am tired and exhausted with them. How many freaking calls do I need to make? I hope people read this review and understand your garbage management.

Yelp
If I could, I would give the Glass Light Hotel zero stars for having atrocious customer service. This is why you should avoid them: I am flying from DC to Norfolk and I had reserved my room with them, days in advance, for the weekend. Upon landing in Norfolk I see a voice message from them on my phone telling me the room had a "leak" and they had to cancel my stay (I am willing to bet the "leak" was really just a case of overbooking because later that day, I had a chance to walk by the hotel and everything seemed fine, at least as far as the lobby was concerned. There was no indication of any emergencies). It was almost 7 PM, on a Saturday night, when I had a chance to retrieve the message and practically every decent room was sold out in the city. That's it. Nothing else, no apologies from them, no "we will find alternate accommodations for you", or "here is a voucher for the huge inconvenience of letting you down at the last minute". I called them back. They don't pick up. I got instead redirected to the Marriot reservation line. I finally was able to get hold of them after numerous tries, only for them to tell me that I had to resolve that with Expedia. When you have decent customer service you TAKE CARE of your guests and act swiftly so you don't let them stranded. They did not of that. I had to scramble to find a decent (and very expensive) room in Virginia Beach miles from there. I spent almost 2 hours going back and forth with Expedia. All in all a huge inconvenience that I did not deserve as a paying customer. It was 1 AM before I had a chance to settle in my room in Virginia Beach. In any event, I will never be staying at this hotel. There are plenty of fantastic choices in the area at pretty much the same rate but with real customer service. For me, the "light" at this hotel has been extinguished forever. I rather stay at a Motel 6 than trusting them with my stay ever again.

Yelp
This review is based off of our dining experience. We never stayed at the hotel however, we may do that for a staycation in the future. This hotel is STUNNING. the restaurant is in the open lobby but nice and quaint. I celebrated a birthday dinner there and I felt special. Since we couldn't go to France, my husband bought France to me and this was a beautiful French cuisine. I chose the Gaslight Burger. I'm just going to say that hands down, it was the BEST burger I've ever ate in my life. I dream of this burger now. I may just get it to-go sometime. My husband took a bite and he couldnt stop talking about it! He had the duck breast dinner and he enjoyed it. For apps, we had the vichysoisse and our palettes weren't sophisticated enough to enjoy it. I also wished they added more potato chips to it. In our minds, we were imagining this to be a deconstruted sour & cream potato chip, but this was a bit bland and different...pretty presentation however. We also had the Burrata and we really enjoyed this dish a lot. I have a special love for this hotel because I live rabbits and they have many art pieces that included them and glass sculptures. We were able to walk around and enjoy the art. This is a beautiful gem to visit if your ever in downtown Norfolk. AND Shoutout to the gentleman valet with the stylish hat. He was so welcoming and shared the background history of the hotel.

Yelp
Top-notch service with a smile at this old yet elegant historic hotel nestled in downtown Norfolk! This place exudes an old world charm with a modern amenities and hosts an amazing gallery of world class glass art! It has an open, airy feel with the charming old world style featuring an original staircase banister and old mail post box intermingled with modern and contemporary decor on all levels. The rooms are spacious and afford a great view of downtown Norfolk, including a view of the pagoda and Nauticus, if you're on the 7th floor or higher. The gym is state of the art with a rowing machine and water station to fill your water bottles. The lounge area has a relaxed and classy feel, as if you're back in the 1920's. The bar and on-site restaurant though small give an intimate yet vibrant feel. The food was outstanding but pricey, as expected for this level of elegance and charm. The hostess, Sonya, and the check-in lady, Kristina, and the bartender, Hunter, were all very gracious and accommodating. While you're there, explore the exceptional gallery filled with exquisite art from the world over! Parking is adjacent to the hotel at the Boush Street garage for $19/night unlimited exit & entry (be sure to have the parking validated at the front desk), or you can valet $29 a night. Great way to enjoy a little staycation in the heart of Norfolk!

Yelp
Lucky to have stayed here right as they've just recently opened. Hotel is beautiful. Hands down one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in. Hospitality was superb. Everyone we encountered went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and taken care of. I recommend asking for a corner room, ending in 05 as they have the most windows and double sinks. The gallery is opening in spring 2021 but there is glass art throughout the hotel and in the rooms. The restaurant is open to the public and while we only have breakfast, the service was attentive and the food was delicious. Recommend ordering the croque madame. Will be returning and spreading the word!

Yelp
My husband and I absolutely loved this hotel and we will stay here anytime we are in the area. The staff was by far the the best we have seen in years. The food in the hotel restaurant was top notch, we ate breakfast there but did not get a chance to try dinner. What a cool concept to have an art gallery within the hotel. The glass pieces were so unique. Easy check in and convenient valet service. Right down town and close to everything. The hotel was also very clean overall as well as our room. We are very excited to stay there again. My only recommendation would be to have an option for late night cocktails and appetizers. The bar is so nice, it would be a cool spot to chill after a night out to a show.

Yelp
Bed Bugs!!! I stayed on the 9th floor this week 5/23 and as I was packing up to leave I found bed bugs in the king bed. When I went to checkout I alerted the staff and they said "okay, have a nice day". Make sure you check your bed before you stay in a room.

Yelp
THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT THE RESTAURANT. Although there were PLENTY of tables in the restaurant, we were advised only bar seating was available. We both ordered the lemon vinaigrette salad, the romaine was soggy and brown, we both ordered the denver steak, it was so so chewy , it was terrible. for dessert I had the watermelon panna cotta , it was like eating watermelon flavored jello, the other person had the chocolate mousse which she said was actually ok. overpriced, and especially for the quality and service we received.

Yelp
Beautiful decorum, wonderful staff...but a bit overrated. Didn't meet expectations when it came to service, I didn't have an iron in my room...no big deal, but it took forever for them to bring it after two calls. Now I'm rushing to meet someone after them taking so long, it was clear after the 2nd call they never communicated it the first time. I get the iron and the steam buttons are broken stuck inside. I didn't have time to wait for another one to came so I had to air dry the water that leaked on my clothes. Got a drink when I can back...WAY overpriced, barkeep was nice though. Next time I'll do the Marriott, lastly the parking is low so don't call with a taller vehicle (to be fair I don't blame them for that part, but I'm on a roll here). Lastly, I got to make some coffee before I depart and one of the cups is dirty!

Yelp
exceptional stay at Glass Light Hotel. The staff was courteous, rooms were well-maintained, and the amenities exceeded expectations. Definitely a top choice for future visits

Yelp
This is an amazing stay for someone who enjoys art! The attached museum and art decor in every room and on each floor makes this a worth while stay. My only concern is the water pressure in my room was low!

Yelp
Lovely hotel with great style. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Missing a few items in the room, but otherwise great stay. The bar downstairs is a cool place to hang out, and the gallery is unique among hotels. Happy to recommend.

Yelp
- The vibe and feel of this hotel feels like an old creepy hotel was renovated but not very well. - This hotel does not present as nice in person as it does online. The hotel is "new" but the finishes are not clean, smooth, or polished - Hotel bathroom toilet is dirty but the bathroom was overall nice. We loved the shower head and detached water handle - The staff at the front door is accommodating but rude - There are spiders and gnats in our room and we noticed that there is recent water damage. The water damage explain why the gnats are there. They have created a nest somewhere to breed. The hotel does not seem to care much to find where the nest is - They did not turnover the room the entire time we stayed - They also did not have wash cloths and towels when we needed more than two. Said their truck didn't come... This is definitely not a 4 or 5 star hotel and nothing about it feels special or praise worthy... our stay was more like.... "Thanks for holding our bags"

Yelp
How is this hotel doing during Covid? Obvious perfect! Honestly, I wouldn't know because once we reached downtown Norfolk. The police had blocked every way to the hotel due to some protest. We called to cancel our hotel stay, which they refused to. We also contacted the Marriott points and they told us it was up to the hotel. For a young couple, traveling throughout the United States for work was common. Running through airports to catch the next flight, when we had our kid. It became harder to travel. Knowing the kid would eventually become school age, it stopped for me and slowed for my spouse. But not to get a refund from Marriott on a situation beyond our control, to once again cancel dinner reservations to a restaurant that I have been wanting to try due to timing. Will we be doing business with Marriott again? Not if we can help it.

Yelp
I'm torn on this review. There was so much good. But the bad.. was bad. When we made the reservation we chose the park and cruise package. It was around $395 for the night and included parking for the week. When I checked in online it was saying "parking $19" or "none". I called and asked which I should choose. She told me to choose none.. as once again.. I'd paid for parking in my rate. We pulled up.. unsure how parking works. It's a corner building and quite lovely. My husband waited in the car while I asked the valet what we needed to do. He wasn't sure, so he offered to walk me in. We went in and I was offered champagne. I turned it down as my husband was still in the car. At the desk they told me that parking was included and just to park in the boush st lot. I went back out to my husband after getting checked In. We parked and went to our room. It was fantastic. Pictures below. The bathroom sink was glass and lit. it could be turned in by motion at night. After this, we went down to the bar. The bartender was awesome. He said he'd been there since they opened in Nov 2019. Our friends came in and they asked if we had had our ticket validated yet. Something we hadn't been informed of. Moving on. We had dinner and came back. We went to our friends room to play cards. The toilet handle promptly fell off. We weren't able to reattach. So we called the front desk. They sent maintenance up. He was in there Maybe 15 seconds. And goes to walk out. Us, "oh wow.. you fixed it already?". Him.. gruffly, "yes, I fixed it!!!!". And off he goes. So I go to the bathroom attempt to flush. And handle falls off. At this point I give up .. I take the top off the tank. And pull up to flush. We check out the next day and my friend says.. they charged me $19 for parking. She went and asked and they said it was a mistake and took it off. I didn't see rhey had done the same with me until today. A week later. I called. They refused to take it off and insisted even with park and cruise you pay for one night. What the heck?? He wanted me to send my rate terms over.. which I can't because the app no longer shows my rate since the stay is gone. The glass gallery is very cool and MOST of the staff are amazing! The few snafus brought me down a bit.

Yelp
I hated this hotel! The front desk staff was slow and rude, the room was small, the water pressure in the shower sucked, and the entire hotel was super underwhelming for the high price. I recommend you stay somewhere else.

Yelp
Marriott's Autograph Collection hotels are my favorites. Local vibes, sumptuous decor, and staff who are at the top of their game are features that define the brand. The new Glass Light Hotel is impressive, starting with its perfect location on Granby St, with dozens of restaurants and two very different water front scenes all within walking distance. But much more than having a prime location, the hotel also partners with top tier staff. Shatavia took care of us at check in and really started us out right with her professionalism, friendliness, knowledge of the hotel loyalty program, commitment to delivering an excellent experience, and her uncanny knack for building rapport. We were tired, disheveled, and dressed down, but she treated us like VIPs and it made the stay extra special. Though the hotel is in a historic building, the rooms are the epitome of modern. Big windows (well insulated from street sounds), cool furnishings, sexy bathrooms, and a fun glass-art theme make them a refreshing retreat from the typical business hotel experience. One small area that could be improved is sound insulation between walls in the bathroom, as our neighbor's romantic noises could be heard through the wall. Fortunately, that was only in the bathroom. Another minor area for improvement is bed frames. Ours tended to make creaking noises when we moved in bed. While the lobby has a fancy French themed restaurant that appears quite popular in the evenings, the neighborhood has some great options to explore as well. I recommend Cure Coffeehouse, a 10 minute walk away, for a well crafted morning pick me up, and La Brioche Bakery (a straight shot up Granby Street) for fresh baked artisan goods. My rhubarb tart was oven hot and truly delicious. Marriott Elites, Platinum and above, are recognized at this property, with breakfast vouchers valued at $10 per person provided, as well as room upgrades based on availability.

Yelp
The entire staff is phenomenal! They are friendly, professional & helpful. The Museum is great. The collection they have is wonderful. The glass pieces are magnificent.
