Skip the Golden Circle—Take Iceland's New Arctic Coast Way Instead
"Glaumbær in Skagafjörður features historic turf-roofed farmhouses built during the Age of the Settlements, circa 900 A.D., transformed into a living museum. The property’s timber structures were added as recently as the 1870s, and the last inhabitants didn’t vacate until 1947."
Surprisingly well prepared, allowing an etnographic look into Icelandic life with turf building structures.
I recommend this place to get a glimpse into earlier lives of people in Iceland - if it's on your way.

A change from landscape views to an interesting look into Icelandic old homes and ways of living. Love it! Tunnels that connect some of the homes makes it a really awesome experience.

We stumbled across this place while driving through. These turfhouses are on a whole different level. Multiple rooms offer a true feeling of living in these style homes. Was a very cool place to visit.

Very interesting and well presented. The artifacts are many and numerous. It's a good self guided tour that you control the speed of going through it.

A very cute place, but the little village is very small and you have to pay the entrance fee to really see what's behind the scenes.
You can also take photos from the outside, but you can't necessarily see all the scenery.

Totally worth the stop and ticket (about $14 US). As an architect I really enjoyed experiencing the historic turf houses. Great explanations of the construction, history, and preservation. Buildings are fully accessible... feel and smell these spaces! Not sure I could survive the moldy smell and no heat! Wow
