I was looking for something to do between Columbus and Dayton and stumbled upon this sizeable nature preserve. There is a fee (per car, not per person), but I would judge this place to be more worth it than a lot of parks.
Much of the trails follow a creek through a valley, part of which is a wetland that I was surprised to find in central Ohio; it looks more like something you'd find in the hinterlands of the Carolinas or something, albeit with less alligators. Beavers were obviously at work. There were many birds, and unfortunately some bugs too. There were numerous beautiful water features, and more trails than I had time for in a couple of hours, and the dip into the valley gives it an isolated feel.
What really put it over the top for me was the raptor rehab facility, which housed a variety of birds, many with visible injuries preventing them from flying. It is a nice way to get a clear view of the birds, many of them the same species I saw around the park, and one can sponsor a bird's rehabilitation if one is so inclined. Even though the nature center was closed and one of the boardwalks had flooded, the park still had so much to offer than to anyone traveling through the area, I'd say if you're considering the stop it's definitely worth it. The locals of what seemed like a charming little town likely need no convincing.
