Guide: Letchworth State Park

"Located within the park, staying at the Glen Iris Inn is presented as one of the most iconic Letchworth experiences: the inn has historic charm with rooms in the main building and other historic cottages, the Inn itself is open seasonally, and guests are said to feel enveloped in the history of the landscapes—literally walking the same hallways as William Pryor Letchworth." - Kelsey Fowler Kelsey Fowler Kelsey Fowler is a New York City-based journalist who specializes in covering travel, business, and news. The restaurant was beautiful. Our waitress was great. Unfortunately, after our meals were already at the table, we heard another waitress tell their table about the soup of the day.. my fav.. pumpkin bisque. Maybe this review would be different if I knew that because from there I would have ordered the bisque & Brie app & made it my meal & maybe it would have been amazing. But I ordered chicken parm. It was a boiled piece of unseasoned dry chicken with sauce & cheese broiled on top. The dinner rolls were hard & barely any sauce to sop up anyway. Dessert was pumpkin trifle. Tasty but had a cool whip taste. Also, don’t fall for the $16 made in china glasses at the gift shop. They are on Amazon 6 for $20.

Location is perfect and the hotel is quite lovely. However, there are no railings along the stairs leading to the bedrooms. Very difficult for anyone let alone older people. I needed a single and it was on the third floor. It was described as a single or cozy couple. The couple would not only need to be cozy, they would need to be small. The room was very hot and I could not open a window in the bedroom or bath. To enter the bath you had to walk between the corner of the bed and the dresser, not much more than 12-14 inches between them. Very few outlets so it was challenging to charge my devices. They had to take turns. Shower was also challenging to get into. The lighting was abysmal. I had to lay kitty corner on the bed to read by the floor lamp at the bottom end of the bed. It was, however, quiet. The only way to watch TV was to sit in the library. I can’t imagine how guests would ever agree on what to watch- Fox News or CNN? But we weren’t there to watch TV. In a very classy manner, a pile of window air conditioners were piled in the corner of the lovely library.||The restaurant is a whole other story. The food was poorly presented, mediocre and very overpriced. I can’t take the time to outline the shortcomings. The dining room is attractive and our server was attentive. As you might expect m, I will NEVER stay there again.

We can here to celebrate my parents 50th anniversary. The hostess was abrupt and frankly rude. The waitresses were nice. After ordering we waited over 45 minutes for the food to arrive. The salmon was good but the chicken that my wife ordered was dry. The potatoes were bland. Overall the food was not good for the price. After dinner i used the rest room to discover stacks of extra dinner chairs. I hope they clean them before setting them in the dining room. Great location but I would find a different place to eat.

My wife and I were married at the Glen Iris Inn 37 years ago, but this was the first time we stayed at the Inn and were looking forward to a two-night getaway. The Good: To a person, the staff is outstanding - friendly, helpful, and efficient. Five stars++. The location and setting are outstanding. First-time visitors to Letchworth State Park are often awestruck, and the Inn occupies a prime location within the park. The Just OK: The food served in the Inn's dining room is a mixed bag. The menu is a bit old fashioned and IMO the portion sizes for all of the dishes are simply too big. Prices are on the high side. The Not-So-Good: The Inn's building and guest rooms, and to a lesser extent its grounds, are far past due for a renovation. Preserving the historic significance of this 1800s property should be a top priority, but as things stand the facility is just dated and worn out. The Inn's website should not claim the rooms are "recently redecorated," or that the room we booked is a "luxury suite." If New York State, the Inn's operator, and/or private investors or donors funded a carefully planned, top-to-bottom renovation, IMO this property could offer a distinctive five-star experience.

We had reservations here for two nights. We booked an Inn room, but they do have other off-site accommodations. There was just two of us so one room in the Inn was all we needed.|Upon arrival they were all ready for us. There is a free parking lot and a drive-up area to upload luggage. |The Inn sits right overlooking the Middle Fall which makes it a great location. The house has a porch with chairs for watching the falls and the goings on. The grounds are well kept with lots of flowers.|We were surprised to find our room was on the third floor. It was a walk up. As a historic building I guess we should have expected no elevator. It was somewhat a bother to get our suitcase up the stairs, but we made it. I guess you can ask for a room on the second floor when you make a reservation. The lower ground floor has public restrooms, a gift shop and restaurant. There is a front parlor which we used a couple times when we returned to the Inn. |Our room was small with a double bed; again, a historic building. There were side stands on each side of the bed and a chest in the room. The bathroom was spacious with a tub and shower. A hair dryer was provided. There was a window ac unit that worked fine on the hot day. |Our stay was comfortable. There is a restaurant on site. The museum is just across the parking lot.|On the third floor is the library with a tv, a full-length mirror, games and books. There is a large table and seats around. We used it a few times to just sit and relax. There were other people there several times when we entered. No one used the tv while we were there.

Google
This is a rating for the food. The prices are extremely high priced for mediocre (at best) food. We had a steak with blue cheese butter….the steak was so cold when it came out, the butter did not even soften! The only thing that was edible was the Caesar salad. I’m not over exaggerating. Save your time and your money. The location however, is TOP NOTCH! So if ambiance is the only thing you want, then this could be your place.

Google
The food was disgusting. French onion soup was salty so much that I felt a heartbeat. There was a big peace of a cheap dry bread. It was impossible to eat. Service is the same as food. I told what I didn't like it, nobody cared. We had 5 people and they gave us a table for 4 with additional chair, at the same time having bigger available tables. Overpriced. They just use this location. Restaurant is old and stinky.

Google
We ate lunch and we felt the that it was 5 stars.Food service and price was perfect for the times we are living in.Highly recommend and ask that the owners to keep a close eye on staff as we see most work hard while one at least take advantage of expecting the others to work while they play on there phone...But over all we thank you for a superb well maintained business who still care about the costumer. THANK YOU!!!One big thing we felt kept us from eating here was the lack of direction where enter for dining. From the parking lot to the door you enter should be clearly marked.

Yelp
This has been on my bucket list for quite some time, and it absolutely lived up to my expectations. Great ambience - classic and cozy . In that setting, I had to order a comfort meal for lunch - Pot Roast . It was delicious - Tender beef with mushroom gravy , homemade mashed potatoes , and buttery vegetable medley . The service was top notch too . It was a very busy afternoon, since it was the closing weekend for the inn, but their staff handled it effortlessly. I can't wait to come back next season ! 5 stars

Yelp
Had the following: Thanksgiving Dinner, pretty basic and sad. Kentucky Butter Cake, meh. Apple Cider Spritz, wish the cider taste was stronger. Definitely feels like senior center vibes and same goes for food. Service very friendly though and the outdoor seating is cute and right next to middle falls. Don't have high expectations when coming here and expect to pay between $14-18 for each thing.

Yelp
"Don't go chasing waterfalls Please stick to the rivers and the lakes" (TLC) Well, you won't see this at too many other hotels, because just a few steps from the Glen Iris Inn's front door is a humongous waterfall on the grounds of Letchworth State Park. The Glen Iris Inn is smack in the middle of the spectacular Letchworth State Park. If you walk out the front door, you'll see the falls, but you can follow a walkway and stairs to get an up-close view of the Middle and Upper Falls. The Inn is more like a B&B than a hotel. Our guest room on the second floor was appropriate to an old house with an old school key and deadbolt lock. When you leave your room, you'll need to use the key to lock your room door. Our room had a nice comfortable bed, a dresser, and two nightstands. The HVAC in the room and the shower in the bathroom shower were great. There is no coffeemaker in your room, but coffee was served on the second floor. The staff we interacted with (front desk attendant, restaurant concierge and our server) were all great. The house restaurant (Caroline's) was beautiful, and we had a nice dinner there. But being that the Glen Iris Inn is an old house, there were some age-related issues. There was noise from the 3rd floor room above - footsteps and creaking floors, but I know that's typical of old house acoustics. There was no TV in our room, but there was one on the 3rd floor lounge. There was a scarcity of outlets in our room, and one I found was so old and worn out, my charger fell out. Our bathroom had a small pedestal sink with pretty much zero counterspace. The staircase from the lobby to the 2nd and 3rd floors was steep and had an open handrail at points, so be careful. There's no elevator, so if you get a room on the 3rd floor, be prepared.

Yelp
We went to Glen iris inn when i went to visit in my grandma in New York, its a tradition to hike the park but its a treat when whenever we go for dinner or lunch at the inn. This year we did and the scenerie is beautiful they do such a good job with landscaping, and setting up the little details, also the view is just amazing from the restaurant. I got a hugo spritz and split their Caesar salad and fried with my sister, the salad was definitely big enough for both of us. everyone else got their steak and said it was pretty good. Its nothing crazy but for the view and vibes i think it was worth it. The staff is amazing and so sweet. If you go you need to make an afternoon of it, hike a little and grab a drink and app at the inn. My family stays there when we have big family events and likes it because of the details and waking up on the falls. Its not too big either.

Yelp
Went for a wedding and the service from the bartenders, bus table people, was really good. They only had one bartender for majority of the night making drinks for about 170 people. The party was told to change their music (throwback hip hop, rnb), then the bartender was sent off a bit early. The food was ok. Overall be careful if you're having a wedding here, I wouldn't for a large group maybe a smaller wedding less than 100.

Yelp
This is the restaurant for the Glen Iris Inn. It is situated at the Middle falls in Letchworth State Park. We stopped in for lunch. I enjoyed my salmon, and my dining companion liked her brie with berries, but said the brie should have been warmer. Still, we both found our meals to be entirely satisfying.

Yelp
What a cute stop in the park. Reasonable prices good food. The soup of the day Hungarian mushroom, was really good. Fast service even though it was busy. Got a speeding ticket on the way out in the cop was nice. Don't speed.
google avatar

Yelp
Very busy all year round. Walked in without reservations. Waited 20mins to be told there were NO seats available and to come back.... yea right Call first to make reservations, then show up!
google avatar

Yelp
This is for the restaurant. It was the only place in the area for food and we just finished taking pictures with the waterfall. Service was okay, we did have to wait awhile to be seated. The food was mediocre. The Applewood smoked trout was good but for the price we should have gotten more quantity like a few more pieces. Entrees were average, nothing that really stuck out in terms of taste or appearance. Prices should either be lowered or add more quantity to the food, since it's already pricey.
google avatar

Jeech N.

Yelp
Simple sandwiches and good pie. If this wasn't in the park it would probably be less cool but it is in an old building with the waterfall right outside. Seniors get into the park for free on weekdays. A good meal but nothing groundbreaking.

Yelp
This review is for Caroline's, the restaurant at the Glen Iris Inn. We had dinner here last night (a Tues), a party of 4, with 2 people being visitors from Spain. Before arriving, we had spent roughly 3 hours exploring the park, introducing our friends to the 'Grand Canyon of the East', stopping at all the overlooks, and taking in falls, and were looking forward to a good, solid continental meal in the cozy atmosphere of the historic Glen Iris Inn after all the sight-seeing in the decidedly damp and gray fall weather. We had made reservations for 5 pm prior to our arrival, and were glad we did because the restaurant was almost completely full. We were definitely the youngest diners (all of us in our 50s and 60s) and had the feeling that many of the other diners were staying at the hotel (i.e. it was pretty brisk weather wise outside, and folks were arriving without coats). Our server is the main reason for this review - being that she made up for the poor quality of the food with her friendliness and attentiveness. Food wise, we ordered appetizers, bar drinks, mains and dessert. For appetizers, their soup of the day was pumpkin bisque and 2 of us had this. We had asked if it was a sweet or savory preparation, and though our server said it was savory, it was unfortunately sweet - like eating a warm liquid-y bowl of pumpkin pie, complete with pumpkin pie spice. Not good. One friend got a 'small side Caesar salad' which was definitely a dinner-sized portion, which he split with the rest of us. Our other friend got the French onion soup which she thought was very good. For our mains, my husband and I split the 20-oz prime rib, with butter-and-dill green beans and country mashed potatoes, plus a 'side salad' with blueberries, blue cheese, lettuces and other veggies. The prime rib was served luke warm at best, with an au jus that quickly congealed upon being set on the table. The meat was tender but bland, and the jus did not help it at all. The beans were very plain - no sign of the 'dill', and the 'country mashed potatoes' were just your basic mashed potatoes, which were fine. The 'side salad' was another huge portion, with lots of blueberries and nice fresh lettuce, but it was served with a sweet poppy seed dressing which just did not go well with the other flavors in the salad. Why not serve this with a light blue cheese dressing?? Overall, both dishes, the prime rib with sides and the salad, were not what we expected. Our friends ordered the salmon filet with the beans and country mashed potatoes and the pork chop with the same sides. The salmon was not local and appeared to be farmed as it was nearly white in color; our friend ate about half of it. The pork chop was a bit better - with good flavor and it was cooked properly, but there was a huge bone in it and a lot of fat, and even though our friend ate all the meaty bits, her plate looked as though she hadn't eaten much of the pork. Another couple of misses. For dessert, we all split a chocolate-fudge-and-chocolate-mousse concoction that tasted chocolatey and sweet, but was obviously just a bunch of things piled into a plate with whipped cream. I had really expected more from this place, given the location, the connection to this historic hotel, and the prices. I would not recommend this place, and will not eat here again. Note - the restaurant and inn both close as of Oct 31, as the road leading to them also closes with the first snow.

Yelp
Cute but a bit dated bed and breakfast in letchworth park. Great location close to all the waterfalls . Restaurant is also a bit dated and could use a new chef to liven things up. Chocolate desserts are delicious!

Yelp
I'm writing this because the Glen Iris is a 'destination' eating place because you have to go through Letchworth State Park to arrive there. Leave plenty of time to eat and make reservations. In season (especially late summer and fall) they are busy. The food is good and we've had excellent burgers and salads when we've gone. It does take awhile to come out however. The last 2 times we waited 50-60 minutes. Servers are very nice but I think the kitchen gets backed up. The decor is old style and kept to the original design. The view is beautiful and you can walk the garden afterwards.
google avatar

Brandon G.

Yelp
First off, I have to say that I had higher expectations for this dinner. However, I understand it was a busy night and there was also a small wedding taking place there as well. My food was good. Just good. Nothing that made me feel like it was worth the amount of money but it was a good dinner. The prime rib was good. I would've liked some au jus with it but still good none the less. The potatoes were delicious. The green beans were green beans, nothing crazy to report there. Overall, for the amount the meal cost, I expected a house salad or something to come with it instead of just one roll and butter. I had never been here before since I heard it was pricey and waited for a special occasion. That being said, I would go somewhere else next time for a special occasion. I would come back here for some of the beginning plates or maybe for their lunch menu.
google avatar

Scott W.

Yelp
This is easily one of the nicest restaurants at any state or national park in the US. From a facilities standpoint, Caroline's Courtyard is breathtaking. You can enjoy listening to the Middle Falls during your meal. One of the most beautiful patios we've ever eaten on anywhere. The building is also gorgeous. Food is also delicious, though plating is rather plain, as you can see from our photos. Don't let that deter you. I can't stress enough that our food was delicious and that the experience was wonderful. Service was also great.

Tara L.

Yelp
We went in not knowing what to expect, but we are so happy we tried The Glen Iris. We both ordered the steak frites. They were amazing! The meat was so tender and flavorful. Even the fries and broccoli were fantastic! I would highly recommend getting the steaks frites!

Jan M.

Yelp
Best way to get your bearings is lunch at Caroline's at the Glen Iris Inn. We are headed to the Lodge & go explore the 17 mile long park (having entered at the South gate)

Douglas W.

Yelp
The motel part was absolutely disgusting! Smell of mold and mildew. First time ever that I left a motel saying "I cannot stay here!" Ugh! Ps. I was forced to select one star! Doesn't deserve it!
google avatar

Aspiring E.

Yelp
We are here for a special occasion. Restaurant Caroline's Dining Room at the Inn seems to present itself as a fine dining experience...Did not provide the tables we requested. Staff have minimal training in service etiquette. Ingredients are mediocre quality. Chef rushed the meal prep. Served rare scallops, rare salmon to a pregnant woman, risotto was undercooked yet over manipulated to make mushy poorly seasoned with raw corn and garlic, runny, dolma were stuffed into old bitter grape leaves ( horrible lingering aftertaste) etc. they charged a small fortune. Right now I'm praying none of us gets sick.

Yelp
I was hiking Letchworth and realized there was restaurants INSIDE the park and had to try it. Came here for lunch and was seated quickly inside. (Friday) I saw someone has the poutine on my way in and I had to try it. I also tried the chicken wings which were amazing! Drinks are good but light. Had the pineapple mojito which tasted amazing like juice. The service is super kind and helpful. Overall great food and was left wanting more wings! Side note. If you dine with them they honor your parking pass and deduce it from your bill. This didn't apply to me due to having the Empire Pass but it's can be helpful information for someone else.

Jean S.

Yelp
We had dinner here, sat outdoors with the sound of waterfalls, it is beautiful! The food and service were excellent, highly recommended!
google avatar

Yelp
We came for dinner, but there are also rooms to rent here and other properties booked through Glen Iris Inn. Based on our experience and observations, service can be a bit spotty depending on who's at the front of house or serving, but you can't beat the location. We had a beautiful view of the gardens out one set of windows, and the mist from the falls out the other. The restaurant itself appears a little dated, but it's clean and well-kept. For me, the big draw was the prime rib poutine and it delivered. A few cheese curds were too cold, a typical problem with poutine, but fine once I moved them around to the hotter center of the plate. Though it's listed under small plates, it's a filling meal. The prime rib was medium but tender and flavorful. My husband had the actual prime rib dinner, and it's a huge cut of meat. You definitely get your money's worth. Cooked medium rare to order, and very tasty. It comes with mashed potatoes or a baked potato. He chose mashed, and enjoyed it. The kids has chicken tenders off the kids menu, and enjoyed their chicken, leaving only a handful of fries. They have a couple of bourbon flights. I tried the NY flight. The wine list is extensive, and they have a lot of novel seasonal cocktails as well. A satisfying end to our visit.

Yelp
After a long 14 mile hike in Letchworth Park, we were famished and thirsty! We were heading back to our car and decided to stop in the Inn since it was on the way. Beautiful grounds and the interior was equally pretty. We got seated right away despite our slightly disheveled hikers look but the hostess didn't get an eye. The dining room was much bigger than I expected too. Since it was too late for lunch and too early for dinner, we opted for their apps and small plates. We were so happy to see that they had warm Danish brie with a berry compote as one of their choices! Usually brie served is French but I prefer the Danish version of it, so it was a total delicious score. Their smoke trout appetizer was a generous portion and melt in your mouth and their Mediterranean plate didn't disappoint either. Decided to indulge and have dessert too and their cheesecake with peach Melba worked perfectly. Price vs. Portions was spot on. Pro tip: Bring your $10 entrance fee to the park with you, the Inn will deduct the $10 from your check! Score! Will be back and hopefully stay there too next time

Yelp
Nature, views, historical significance and great food! Take the day to enjoy every facet of what makes western New York a great destination. Have you ever seen a mastodon skull? Enjoy a meal at the Inn and then walk across the street and visit the museum! Fascinating!

Yelp
The Glen Inn is a beautiful, charming, historic hotel with a gift shop and restaurant located within a short walk to the Middle Falls. Took my mom here for Mother's Day;even though it was a rainy day the atmosphere, in addition to the phenomenal service received and openess with a view made it memorable. Pat, are waitor was very patient, attentive and didn't rush the meal or our experience . Two things important for fine dining: 1. Presentation/ Quality 2. Service During COVID, their was a limited menu but still enough choices for a holiday. The taste and flavoring of both are meals were spot on, and cooked perfectly. An extra add bonus was with the restaurant being located in Letchworth State Park, you received $10 off your bill for parking. Look forward to coming back later in the season to try more of their food.

Carol L.

Yelp
Pricey and very mediocre food. Service was laxidosical and not easily wheelchair assailable

Yelp
The Inn is set with a view of the middle falls. The breeze coupled with the sound of the falls gives a calming feel. Sit on the porch and enjoy a few cocktails or enjoy indoor (or outdoor) seating for dinner. Stay for the evening and experience a atmosphere most people don't experience. The light yellow hew of the garden lights gives off a warm romantic glow over the gardens.

One of the best outdoor seating by the falls Burger was very good and juicy Definitely recommended

Yelp
Review is just for restaurant/dining room. We came here around noon and had lunch. We were seated within 15 minutes. The restroom was clean and the inn has an antique vibe to it. According to the hostess, there is no take out, dining in only. Outdoor seating was available since the weather was bad which was understandable. The view of Middle Falls I believe is visible from the the inn but it's not a far walk to get to Middle Falls. The menu wasn't all that interesting or unique besides the prime rib poutine. It was basic dishes, such as pot roast, thanksgiving style dinner so we ended up just trying the burger which was also standard. The price of the food was a little pricey like $15 for the burger. Since it's my first time trying poutine I can't compare it to anything but it was really salty and was drowning in gravy. They didn't skimp on the and it was pretty good besides the salt level. Burger has a thick patty and was cooked according to my boyfriend's preference. The waitress was nice enough to let us know that since we paid the park fee of $10 if we brought our receipt in we get $10 off our bill! That was really nice! WiFi was strong and my boyfriend was able to do his Zoom meeting for class outside.

Derek S.

Yelp
Very unimpressed with my first visit for Mother's Day. Had to ask for bread before receiving it. To top it off, server forgot to put my order in while everyone else got to eat. It was then rushed, and my steak was bloody. Also had to ask for water to get refilled! Very unimpressed. You would think I would have at LEAST been offered a dessert for the HORRIBLE service, but nothing!!!

Yelp
Me and my husband love going hiking in letchworth and decided to have breakfast in glen iris and I'm so happy we did! The service was great! They have indoor and outdoor seating. We had the best breakfast! I had the country breakfast which came with eggs, your choice of bacon or sausage I chose bacon and home fries with four pieces of rye toast. They had two homemade jams and omg let me tell you I couldn't stop eating it!! My husband had the pancake breakfast and let me tell you the portions are HUGE so beware you can seriously share plates with someone! Overall it was so good!!

Yelp
smoked trout app was amazing. this is an old state park lodge that looks great and is in a great location. ambiance couldn't be better. it's expensive! french onion soup was cheesy (one cheese) and good - not sure the broth was homemade. the vegan angel hair pasta was a solid 3 out of 5 for creativity. we'd cut the numerous sun dried tomatoes smaller ... more spinach; pine nuts might not have been toasted. but a good dish. the first bone-in pork chop was dry. sent it back and it came back better but the menu description was way better than the dish - where was the rosemary and brown sugar? the balsamic glaze was watery in execution albeit thick visually - so, there was barely a sauce. the second chop had way less balsamic than the first, too. the associated potato was smoothish but not creamy. these were temp cool and a lump mass on the plate. i appreciate pieces of skin left in my mashed but many folks don't - go with chive or scallion bits. and i did taste some butter - bottom line? potatoes seemed not warmed through - loosen them up! Maybe they sat too long? brussels sprouts was the veg. i don't like them usually but the second bunch on my plate were really good. drinks were fine. the waitress was fantastic, accommodating and moving quickly.

Yelp
We chose the Glen Iris Inn for our daughter's wedding in June 2023. I can't say enough about how wonderful the staff was to work with, and in particular Molly, our food and beverage coordinator who worked with us on every detail. She helped us work out the menus, gave us suggestions, was very communicative with all of our questions, and kept our wedding party in line on the big day. Honestly, everything went perfectly. The catering staff were attentive and friendly, and everyone at the wedding RAVED about the food. We never had a chance to eat at the Glen Iris in advance or sample the food, and with all the general concerns about finding enough help for service businesses, I was concerned how things would go. We arrived from out of state and stayed in Caroline's Cottage. The rehearsal dinner was on the property and went well. Molly knew our photographer and dj, and the three of them worked so well together that it was like having the perfect dream team. From the bartenders to the kitchen staff to the catering team, everyone made our daughter's day special and we greatly appreciate that.

Yelp
Had lunch here and after a morning driving through Letchworth, it really hit the spot. Had the pot roast with mixed vegetables and new potatoes, and ate every bite. It was great. Followed it up with the harvest pie with ice cream, which was also delicious.

Yelp
Well underrated. 3.5 is way too low for this historic restaurant with lots of choices, reasonable price and best food in the area. I would highly recommend anyone to go. We are group of 8. Made reservation at 6:30. Was greeted at the front door. We sit comfortably. Water is good. Also offer free bread. We ordered steaks, scollop, grilled chicken, duck and chopped steak. Steak is on the rare side, I think medium well is good choice. Scollop is good size and tasty. Both chicken and duck are tender. Chopped steak is not that good, won't recommend. Ice cream is also good.

Yelp
There's just nothing special to the dining experience here besides the fact that you're in Letchworth. We come here every year for mothers day (my mom really likes it here) but I honestly can't figure out why. This year's experience was one of the worst. Everyone at the table (party of 9) said their food was cold or room temperature... Is that fine dining? Our service was not great, no smiles, no friendly introduction, overall it was just cold, very serious and we didn't feel welcomed. We were with my elderly grandparents who cant stand too long without needing a seat. We checked on our reservation before bringing them in from the car and the woman that helped us just had such an unpleasant demeanor and kind of brushed us off. We were able to sit in an extra room they had while we waited so that was helpful but they made it seem like we were inconveniencing them. This is not an inexpensive dining experience and with service this poor just on service alone I wouldn't recommend or want to come back but the food is also nothing special. Now, at least the food is not bad but it's not great. Almost everyone at our table got either the filet mignon or prime rib and everyone was grabbing for the salt. The meat, especially the filet just had no seasoning, we were basically just served naked meat. It was grilled decently, I asked for medium rare and received medium. Not the end of the world but again this is a nice expensive restaurant... Just not worth the money in my opinion. If you find yourself at letchworth and you're starving give it a try but I strongly recommend you do not go out of your way to come here.

Yelp
Disclaimer: the review is only regarding the food and beverages and not staying overnight at the hotel. First off, I just want to mention that one of the employees here was not wearing a face mask and she was wearing a plastic covering on her chin which wasn't necessarily cover her nose and mouth. The food here was ok but I just don't think it's worth the price point that we paid for. The steak was pretty dry even though we ordered medium rare. The scallops came out chewy and watery. The shrimp in shrimp cocktail was pretty small in size and the cocktail sauce tasted like they definitely mixed it with ketchup. We enjoyed the French onion soup, the sides, and the bread but those weren't the main course we ordered and we were somewhat disappointed. The seasonal house sangria that I ordered was extremely watered down and honestly just tasted like flavored water. Our server was great and he was attentive to our needs. Overall I really would not recommend this restaurant unless you're staying at the hotel or if you're fine with ok quality food at a higher price point.

Yelp
Had an overpriced and underwhelming dinner here -- nice house salads, but two filet mignon meals were less than expected, one was the strangest cut ever had, with some unpleasant sinew. A bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon was decent but triple its retail price -- restaurant usury.

Yelp
Went with a friend for lunch on Tuesday, 10/24. Hostess was rude and waitress was seldom seen. I had pot roast which came in one large chunk. The taste was so awful that I couldn't eat it. My friend had a turkey dinner which was good. The ambience, as it always has been, was wonderful. That is about all the positive I can say. We won't be back.

Yelp
It's probably one of the most notable buildings at Letchworth State Park. A sight when driving through to the Upper Falls, the Glen Iris Inn once served as the country estate for park founder William Pryor Letchworth. A historical landmark in itself, it provides a beautiful setting for a lovely dining experience and (as I can only imagine) inn. I've only ever eaten here once or twice, as my trips to Letchworth are often accompanied by a quiet picnic overlooking the park's beautiful gorges. I'll usually take the least expensive route in bringing my own food, but there's definitely a good pull about this restaurant that always keeps it busy when it's open for the season. That being said, the last time we ate here we made reservations before going to visit Mary Jemison and the museum on site. They fill up fast and typically will give you a couple of hours to kill when you make a reservation anyway, so keep that in mind! Their menu definitely has a good variety - I distinctly remember seeing gluten free options, which is always a plus! Their menu definitely leans on to the more expensive side, but the food is worth the price (and if you keep your park ticket from entry, they will give you a discount!). I can't really remember what I ordered the last time I was here, but I absolutely remember licking my plate clean. I consider it such a privilege to be able to enjoy a nice lunch or dinner at a beautiful place like this. If you're a frequent visitor of Letchworth, definitely dine here at least once!

Yelp
Located in Letchworth State Park, with fast and friendly service I tried the chef's Omlette of the day it was huge, fluffy and delicious. They serve salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers , pot roast , wings , pizza and prime rib poutine.

Yelp
We loved our food today. We weren't expecting it to be nearly as good but it was absolutely delicious. I got the Monte Cristo sandwich and my husband got the pot roast. We also ordered the strawberry rhubarb pie with ice cream and Irish coffees. We ate every bite and plan to go back again after another morning of hiking. The building is also very picturesque.

Yelp
We had lunch at the Inn and were very disappointed. We didn't have high expectations after reading reviews but still wanted to eat there for historical reasons and bc we hoped the reviews were just in poor taste. I had the pot roast bc that the easiest dish to make and I've never had pot roast I didn't like. It was dry & tough, they were stingy with the gravy and I don't understand why, it's not expensive and it's easy to make. More gravy would have helped the dry issue. The carrots tasted like dirt, they weren't peeled and didn't taste as though they'd been washed. The potatoes were dry and too firm. No roll/bread came with it. Paid $23 for cheapest meal to make and it bombed. Husband ordered a burger, he said it was decent. We had bread pudding for dessert and it was worst bread pudding we've ever eaten. We talked to the elderly couple next to us bc they ordered same dessert and they agreed it was the worst bread pudding they ever had as well. My point in this review is not to diss a historical home/restaurant but it's to let you know you can visit the establishment without wasting your money on the food. We loved the museum across the street, highly recommend taking time to visit!

Yelp
After a day of hanging out in the park in the rain, we decided to treat ourselves to a nice sit-down dinner. Atmosphere was very nice - classic warm ambiance and if you listen, you can hear Middle Falls thundering down. Husband had 12 ounce Prime Rib with mashed potatoes and Parmesan green beans. The meat was cooked as he asked and was served with Jus but not horseradish. I had the Mediterranean bowl with Israeli couscous, artichoke hearts, green, black, and kalamata olives, roasted chickpeas, spinach, tomatoes in a lemon vinaigrette. It was good but a bit heavy on the spinach and chickpeas. Didn't look substantial but was very filling. My salad was overdressed and the dinner rolls were very stale. We each enjoyed a glass of Pinot Noir but passed on dessert. Service was pleasant and efficient. We enjoyed getting out of the mist but were not wowed by the food.

Yelp
This is a review of the inn, not the restaurant - it's kind of weird that yelp doesn't separate them, as people thinking about visiting one probably don't care much about the quality of the other (though we did eat breakfast, which is not included with the room - it was decent enough, and reasonably priced, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again, obviously.) For the room... it was pretty much about what I expected, less like an inn, more like staying in a room in a hundred year old mansion, for good and bad. The bad: the inexpensive rooms are quite small and won't have much of a view (though they do have a common room, the "library", that has a great view), and at least in our case, will be on the third floor, up a creaky (feels historic, not worrisome) staircase with no elevator, so hopefully you didn't bring too much luggage. I didn't, however, expect the bed to be one of the most comfortable beds I've ever had the pleasure to use at a hotel, though, which it did. My wife also made me promise I would mention the fact that the provided soap was of unusually high quality. Overall, for the price, if it were just a random inn in a random city for the same price, it wouldn't be anything special, but given that you're literally right next to one of the nicer falls in New York (and there are certainly a lot to choose from!), it seems like a steal. And yes, there is totally no cell reception anywhere around, so it's also great to have wifi while you're in the park. Their wifi was pretty slow, as might be expected, but was generally reliable, just sometimes slow.

Yelp
I have been coming here for 30 years. The rooms here are delightful, and I recommend the cherry suite if you can get it. You need to book it months in advance. It has a balcony with a magnificent view of the middle waterfalls. All of the rooms here are fine. On the negative side, they simply don't come in and make your bed or straighten up or have any kind of maid service at this hotel. They clean up nicely after you check out and when you check in, your room will be in perfect condition, but don't expect your bed to be made or your towels changed while you stay here. The water pressure is fine and the air conditioning and heating is controlled by you so you will find yourself in perfect comfort. There is a library on the third floor if you care to sit with friends and talk, and they have a decent restaurant right on premises that serves three meals a day. There are plenty of places to sit, benches and Adirondack chairs, and hiking trails and I really have no complaints about the glen iris inn and will continue coming here.
