Glencoe House

"Glencoe is one of the most picturesque and idyllic spots in the Scottish highlands, a location beautiful enough to have been used in countless Hollywood movies, from Skyfall to Mary Queen of Scots, and you’d be hard-pressed to believe the landscape has changed much since the young queen’s reign from 1542-1567. A stay in Glencoe House, Lord Strathcona’s family seat modelled on Balmoral Castle and built out of the same sandstone, is properly fitting for such an awe-inspiring location. Accommodation is suite only: there are seven in total, all with private drawing rooms and dining areas, in the four stories of the main house. There are also six distinctive lodges just 50 metres from Glencoe House proper. Across both options everything has been thought of to make any stay as pain-free as possible, with exceptional products and modern amenities. Breakfast and dinner in the Suites are taken in-room and feature seasonal menus with locally sourced ingredients. Glencoe House is a private sort of place, where you’ll do your own thing, rest well, take long walks, and enjoy the magic of the countryside. Simply a beautiful, remote, perfect getaway. To make it perfect, travel to Glencoe via the Caledonian sleeper train from London to Fort William. It’s simply the only way."

We had the best couple of nights at Glencoe House celebrating our 10th anniversary. Everything from the greeting by James at the door on arrival through to the thoughtful arrival gifts, ultimate comfort, privacy and good food. We stayed in suite 1 which was just outstanding. It was huge and just so cosy for the whole weekend, I couldn’t believe it. It’s perfectly located if exploring the area and also nearby Fort William, but equally the suite provided much needed calm and relaxation. We didn’t want to leave. We had breakfast both mornings in which the choice available is brilliant and we enjoyed dinner one night, which again was top quality and we eat at other places regularly. The hot tub was perfectly placed in suite 1 with the view out to kinlochleven. I loved watching the clouds lifting every morning and the darkness coming in at night. All staff encountered were friendly and professional. We were impressed with the table setting and service for dinner and breakfast too. The maxi bar is a good addition albeit we had some of our own, but was nice to have the option to purchase something to go with our dinner. I would say that the prices for the maxi bar are actually quite reasonable too. There was a Bluetooth speaker which we utilised throughout our stay. There was plenty complimentary toiletries, a Dyson hairdryer, iron/iron board and water too. I don’t think I can say enough how much we enjoyed this stay and we would love to return future!

We enjoyed our stay at Glencoe House so much. We enjoyed hiking on the nearby trails around Lake Lochran. The dinner we had here was amazing. (We ate a lot of good food on this trip and this meal was my absolute favorite). We enjoyed the amenities in our room including complimentary champagne, the honesty bar, and outdoor deck. The staff was very kind.

We absolutely loved our weekend here with friends, and would like to thank everyone for such a great experience. We stayed in a self catering lodge which was beautiful. The quality of the produce stocked in the fridge and freezer was amazing, beyond expectations. Everything we could have needed for a comfortable stay.

The suite is amazing. Our suite was located in the basement which opened up to the field at the back of the house. The hot tub is located outside the building with a small gate to the field. Do note that they provide a portable fan because it may get a little stuffy at night with the windows closed. The service was excellent. All the staff are lovely and gave good recommendations for a hike. The breakfast was great and delicious. We did not have dinner at the hotel and chose to go out further instead. There is no food around Glencoe itself, especially because we were there during the off season. We enjoyed our two nights here immensely and would come back again in the future.

Our stay at Glencoe House was tops! It is ideally located right next to Glencoe Lochan with a number of walking trails. The property is tucked away from the main road, so it is very quiet & private. We stayed in Suite 6, which had a wonderful view of the mountain & lots of changing foliage in every window. In-suite dining both nights that we stayed was superb with the 3-course meal being well worth the value. Everything we had from breakfast to dinner was delicious. This place was a special treat & well-worth the cost.

Everything about Glencoe House is outstanding. The journey starts with the first class staff who do everything possible to make your stay wonderful. The Lodge we stayed in had everything you could ever need on a stay, including a hot tub The scenery and the walk around the Loch are exceptional. You really need to put Glencoe House on your must stay list.

Our stay at the Hotel Glencoe was absolutely spectacular. From the very beginning, the staff made us feel so welcome – always friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind. We had the chance to experience both the lodge and the suite, and each had its own charm. The lodge was very comfortable, with the added luxury of a whirlpool, which we really enjoyed. Perhaps the only suggestion would be to offer a prepared breakfast service for an even more complete experience. The suite, however, was simply incredible. The views over the lake were breathtaking, and the romantic dinner we had there was unforgettable. The mattress was a little soft for our personal taste, but everything else was truly 6-star level. We will definitely be coming back – and next time, if possible, we’ll choose the suite with a whirlpool. A truly memorable and highly recommended experience!

Simply wonderful. Stayed overnight on our way to Skye. Stayed in a family suite in the main house with separate living room, dining room, and two winged bedrooms (one with a claw-foot tub!). The room was amazing. Quite simply the nicest suite my family has ever experienced. Dinner and breakfast served in the room. The food was incredible and worth every penny. One of the best meals we had during our stay in Scotland. The chef even popped in to confirm everything was to our liking. Seriously? Wow. The staff who set up the table with fine linen and silverware for dinner and breakfast the next morning were attentive and charming. We felt like royalty. A large country manor house with quite a history set on lovely grounds with walking trails. Sits back from the main road. Absolutely serene. Definitely stay a couple nights or more if you have the time. Can't say enough about the warm hospitality. A heartfelt thank you to all the Glencoe House staff. Just divine.

Yelp
If you get the chance, you must stay here. They treat everyone like royalty. Every detail is thought of thoroughly. We booked suite 7, which is the entire 2nd floor. I have nothing to compare it to, but I can't imagine anything being better. It has 2 bedrooms, one with a dressing room. An office. A large living room and dining room. Gorgeous bathroom. Fully stocked mini bar. And they bring breakfast and dinner to you.

Yelp
Outstanding on so many levels. From James welcoming you on arrival to Sebastian the Chef coming to discuss dining options with you. Graham, the manager, runs an exceptional property and the team are phenomenal. Our suite was immaculate, had everything you could wish for and beautifully appointed. Breakfast & Dinner are served in your suite, the team who serve you are friendly and fun adding to the charm and uniqueness of this magnificent house. There is no bar per say but your suite is stocked with everything you could hope for. We loved this property, absolute gem with the best service you could ask for. Well done Graham & team

Yelp
ocation: We took the ferry over from Corran, from there it was about a 25-minute drive to Glencoe house. You'll turn up a random driveway and think your GPS is wrong, but just trust it. It's a great location if you're starting the A82 Glencoe highway. Rooms: We stayed in Suite 2 + Suite 4 for one night, and omg they were so so big. Suite 2 had a dining/living room with a view of the lake + a large private terrace with hot tub. Suite 4 was on the 2nd floor with a separate dining room and living room and 2 bedrooms that were on opposite sides. It also had lake views. Both rooms had a nespresso machine with milk + sugar. One of the best things was there was also a bar with snacks and drinks and the prices were like supermarket level, it was all super reasonably priced. Giant king-sized beds with soft + clean sheets. Again the bed is a little softer than I like but still comfortable. The bathroom was the best with heated tiles (I'm pretty sure..or they were weirdly warm) + a giant separate tub complete with bath salts + bubbles. Aveda shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Body lotion was another brand. Even though the hotel seemed full, it was really really quiet. Other Things: When you arrive, you can park in front of the house first to unload your luggage. The door was locked and you do have to ring the doorbell. They were very welcoming and it was so nice to come in and sit down + enjoy a glass of champagne by the fire. I'm sorry, I'm horrible with names but the manager gave us a quick history of the house as well as answered any questions about the architecture. After he showed us to the rooms, he also went through all the amenities with us and gave us a quick tour to make us feel welcome. There is no restaurant on-site. A week before we checked-in, they had sent us a menu but I thought we could just find a nearby restaurant. Well, everything closes really early so even though we didn't reserve in time for the full 5-course meal, they were able to whip up a three-course meal for us. It was so good and it was a lovely experience dining in the room. So definitely consider that if you're staying here + pre-order in advance. I'm not a foodie, but I thought the steak was really good. It also includes breakfast in your room. Also be sure to check out the lake that the dude had made for his wife! So pretty!

Yelp
I will start with this, this is not a hotel but an experience. Yes this experience is off the beaten path but isn't it true most things worth doing require a little research and word of mouth. So I will say you MUST have a car while staying here. It took a 3 hour drive from st Andrews to the Glencoe house, hidden in a small village in the Highlands. we pulled up and the sight of the house was amazing, we entered and were greeted by James. James is a wonder and what I consider to be an expert on Scottish history, not to mention he was wearing a kilt and Harris tweed, which I knew nothing about but I do now! James got us all settled in our room, explained everything and how everything worked, got our luggage and settled our car for us. 5 star service. That evening we had a delicious dinner in our suite, suite 1, dinner was great and service was a wee bit slow for our NJ/NY taste but was lovely. Our entire stay was fabulous down to breakfast in the mornings. If we return to Scotland it would be to visit Glencoe house again.

Yelp
Glencoe House is amazing! My husband and I took a two week trip throughout the UK, and this was our favorite place. Our only regret was staying for just two nights. Roger and his staff are friendly, attentive and helpful. Very gracious, and willing to help with ideas for day trips, dinner locations, etc. They even had champagne waiting for us upon arrival. The staff made us feel like we were part of the family. We stayed in Suite 5, all I can say is WOW!! Suite 5 is big! It has a separate dining room, living room with TV/DVD/iPod loaded with different songs, and DVDs, bedroom, bathroom, plus an additional room with double tubs. Incredible! All the rooms were very clean, as were all the common areas. The views from anywhere in the hotel or on the grounds were outstanding! Glencoe House overlooks Loch Leven, and it is beautiful!! My husband and I wish we could have stayed here longer, and are already planning another trip back when we can stay even longer.

Yelp
Amazing service. Beautiful property with many nature trails and lake. Rooms spacious and very comfortable. Very relaxing with full service meals served privatey in your room ( above and beyond room service). Loved it.
