On the Grid : Gloucester Park

"In the 1920s Perth’s drapery moguls, the Brennan Bros, established a gentlemanly club for trotting enthusiasts. And a club is in need of a clubhouse; nay, not just a clubhouse, but its own racing course. It took a decade to take a mosquito-infested swamp and turn it into an oasis for lovers of the gee-gees and gambling; featuring a glam grandstand, palm-lined pacing track and 86-window (!) tote house for punters to place their bets at. Originally named Brennan Park (an honour lost due to disagreements, debts and drinking), the racecourse opened in 1929 to an attendance of 17,000 people – almost 10% of the city’s then population. Despite a multitude of modifications over the years, the elegant entrance gates remain largely unchanged. And if it is your thing, you can still trundle along to the races every Friday night." - Studio Bomba

Went to GP for Christmas in July and had a fantastic time, food was great lots to choose from. Restaurant staff was very friendly, helpful and there when you needed them. Reception staff were so friendly, caring and willing to meet all questions if required. Will recommend this night and event to all.... Once again thanks Gloucester Park for a great time

Gloucester Park, great venue for the Perth Stamp Show during the day. They also had a wonderful display of antique bicycles and radios. We later stayed back and watched the harness racing in the evening. Good selection of drinks at the bar and hot food was available. The fresh seafood basket was the most popular, which came with a very generous serving of fries.

This is my second experience of Italian night at Gloucester Park. This is a well organised event with many food trucks with tasty food and drinks on offer. You can also get cold beers and wine if you like, sadly I was the designated driver that night. There were 10 races that night where the horses 'trot' rather than gallop which is very strange to watch at first. You can bet on the races to add to the excitement of the race. There were fireworks scheduled, however we did not stay for them. Great night. Will be coming back yet again.

Tonight we went to Beau Rivage Restaurant at Gloucester Park for a family dinner and outting. The food was delicious! Everyone from the receptionist ,gate man, security, manager and staff at the restraurant, ground staff such as the horse trainers and driver of the starter car. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to have a wonderful night out. The best

I haven't been to GP for 25 years and now I come back and it's exactly how I remember it. Except there is no crowd, no atmosphere, no bookies, nothing open. The racing was good.

Gone way down hill , australia is suppose to be a place to get the family together and have a pic nic and you can't even bring food in these days , place like a ghost 👻 town, not like it use to be $12 entry with no race card what a joke won't be back! Lucky to get 1 star!

Great event Venues for all ages, next to WACA at East Perth. Parking is $4/hour, $10 for half day. Next time will remember to buy half of the day rate. Better value if stay more than 2 hours.

Yelp
My friend cringes at the possibility of a night out a Gloucester Park; "But so many bogans go to the races", she soulfully protests. Yes, this is true. It is also true that Gloucester Park is a bloody top night out. I enjoy a crowd with the occasional sprinkling of mullet and rat's tail anyway. It all adds to the atmosphere, as far as I'm concerned. I was at Gloucester Park last night to celebrate Chinese New Year, something that is becoming a bit of a tradition for me and a few friends. It set us back a few bob each but was well worth it. The entry free is $20 (there are concession prices for students and pensioners) and we all had a bit of a flutter. My usual horse racing fiasco occurred. I have no idea about the technicalities of which horse to choose. My betting strategy involves putting money on the filly with the name that resonates most strongly and profoundly with me. Phlying Pharoah, how could you possibly disappoint? Often times my horse miraculously canes it for the first two laps and I think, joy of joys, I've fluked a winner! I take this as a symbol from above that my luck in general is swiftly turning around for the better. My pretty pony then proceeds to lag behind and comes somewhere around dead last. It is fun to have a flutter though and a brightly light trotting track has a much more appealing atmosphere than any dreary, depressing casino. There were a number of stalls around to aid in the celebration of Chinese New Year. It was great fun perusing the pleasing delights from the Far East. I love the bright pink and green jelly/junket type dessert. Next time I will definitely try it. Miss Chinese WA added extra shimmer and sparkle to the night. The idea of a beauty pageant being taken seriously in this day and age is so far out it's almost in. The fireworks and dancing dragons were spectacular. When smiles abound upon leaving a venue a good night has been had by all. Thanks to Gloucester Park and the dancing dragons for making Chinese New Year, once again, a memorable and joy inducing night.

Yelp
World-class Harness Racing venue, Grade A Entertainment AND the best way to kick-start a Friday night in town! Lots of options for all comers - The Beau Rivage is at the top end of the scale and caters for everyone who likes a good old-school Seafood buffet, in great new-school surrounds! JP's Bar is the place to grab a few drinks, some dude-food and a bet on the horses OR whatever sport is playing on the big screens! Steelo's has an A La Carte menu with all your brasserie favourites! Get there in Summer to see the Pony Trots after some of the races - If you're struggling to find a winner on the big horses this WILL put a smile on your dial!

Yelp
Great night had by all at the Italian Fireworks Night! Backed a few winners which added to the fun night! Managed to win my $20 entry fee back. We got there at 6pm and headed straight for an Italian donut and a beverage. Donut was good and was covered in sugar. Just what I needed :) Friend's sampled the ravioli and lasagna and said it was delicious. I left it too late to order my food and the lines were so long. I think it's better to get there early and head straight to the food stalls. After the trots, we were entertained by Michael Barbaro. What a great voice and we enjoyed the songs. We made our way down to the grassed area to watch the fireworks and they didn't dissapoint. Gloucester Park always does a good job with the fireworks :) Will be keeping an eye out for their next fun event

Yelp
When my workplace announced that this years Christmas party would be at Gloucester park I cringed. The package my company opted for was $140 a head for a buffet with beer & wine in the Golden Nugget room. The food was pretty awful and the drinks selection was so bad. Swan Draught, REALLY? The place was also incredibly understaffed with a 15 minute wait for nearly every drink. For $140 a head you would expect a lot more and if I had to pay for it myself I would have been furious. The venue itself was decked out quite nicely & my colleagues and I did have a good time watching & placing bets on the races. The venue was shared with about 5 other companies all having their end of year boozey wind ups and it got very rowdy and noisy. My partner and I made a fairly swift exit after a couple of hours as it got too much.

Yelp
Gloucester Park is really great for a night out at the races. Whether you get dolled up or you go in your pyjamas, it really has no pretentiousness or farce that you may find at most horse racing events. There is every single type of person there, from Joe Bogan to Money Bags McGee. And they have some really great events there all the time. My personal fave is the annual Italian Fireworks Nights, which my family froths. All homemade Italian treats, all high carbohydrate, no skinny people allowed. It's pure magic. And the horses are cool too.

Yelp
I came here on Friday night for my partners work christmas party. The party was at The Golden Nugget. The package came with free alcohol till 10.30pm and a buffet dinner. The food wasn't too bad, it was mainly shaved roast meat with roast vegetables and a number of different salads. I thought it was all pretty decent food for a buffet. They have a few seafood options but they didn't look too good so I stayed away from that area. The desserts were very good, there was a number of different cakes to choose from, the two I tried were really good! I really enjoyed myself as we got to make a couple of bets and watch the trot races and went out on to the dance floor a bit later in the night. All and all it isn't a bad spot for a christmas party!
